LR 5.4 images in Book Module gone missing

Upgraded to 5.4, all the images in a recently published (and very important) book have gone missing from the Collection to which they were associated. How do I get the images back? I had better not have to re-place them all over again. This would be a huge boondoggle on Adobe’s part, then this upgrade would mean that I have to relayout a 64 page book with 300 images! I don’t think so.
Can I revert back to 5.3? I have clones and back ups. Russ

No one owes you an answer.
You can uninstall 5.4 and install 5.3, but I doubt very much if the upgrade process would have removed the images from the collection - that's probably user error. I wouldn't recommend going back to 5.3. Instead, look through copies of your backup catalogues and find the most recent one with the images in the book layout. If you've not done much work since then, you could carry on using this version of the catalogue. If you have, you can right click the book and do an Export to Catalog. Then go to your current catalogue and File > Import from Another Catalog to bring in the laid-out book collection.

  • Lightroom 5.2 - Background Image on a Two-Page spread in the Book Module

Is there a way i can make the Background image spread in the two-page spread in the Book Module. Currently i see the same Background image repeating which is annoying. Or is there a workaround. I'm using LightRoom 5.2. Please Advise.

I have an even simpler method. I use MyPublisher to print my books. I select their page layout for a two-page spread, drag and drop the image. DONE!  I understand that most people have their favorite places to have work done. I have been extremely pleased with MyPublisher.com, so I haven't even tried the book module in Lightroom.

  • Images Jump Around in Book Module - Has anyone seen this happen?

I have about 45 tiff files in a book collection saved in the Book module.  Once I added the last few pages, images on one page swapped with images on another page.  In addition, an extra page (images on each side, really two pages)  with the same photos would appear causing me to have duplicate pages.

I'm having the same problem, and sometimes it jumps to my entire lightroom casche and I have odd images within my book.  I have to go back to "Library" and get my quick collection.  The other thing I notice is that the text adjustment icon doesn't work most of the time, and then when it does work, the program freezes and I need to call on my task manager to close the program.  The padding controls won't stay where I've set them.  If I unlink to move text down only, it stops working, and sometimes it will also freeze.
Another thing related to "Book" is I can't go back to get another image and add it to my collection once I have saved my book.  It only remembers the images I used at the time I saved, so I have to start all over.
I know this is a Beta, but hopefully these things will be fixed.  I think it consumes a tremendous amount of RAM, so response is extremely slow, and I have a LOT of RAM.

  • When using Lightroom Book module for Blurb book making, why do I keep getting a low image quality message if it's supposedly accessing my large raw files in my library?

When using Lightroom Book module for Blurb book making, why do I keep getting a low image quality message if it's supposedly accessing my large raw files in my library?

I think I've solved my problem with a Google Search. I came across a free slide show generator
(contributions requested) that shows much higher quality slide shows than either iPhoto or Aperture 3.
You click on a folder of jpegs and it almost immediately generates thumbnails and within a few seconds
I can be viewing a full screen, tack sharp, slideshow of all of the files in the folder. Much sharper than
    I'm used to seeing.
I think I'll keep the Aperture 3 and use if for the purpose it's intended for in the future. I'll also redo the
image preview files to the small size it started with and then I'll copy all of the files I'm interested in from
iPhoto into a separate folder on another disk. I'll use Aperture to catalog and to perform image manipulations
on but I won't try to use it as an iPhoto replacement. I don't think I'll be using iPhoto much as an image
viewer in the future either after I finish moving my favorite pictures to the Phoenix Slides folder.
The name of the free program is Phoenix Slides. It's free to download and try, free to keep (though I
think you'd want to pay the small amount requested) and fast. My pictures have never looked so good
    before.

  • How can I create life size images in Lightroom's Book module?

I want to scan something and place it in a book without scaling the original up or down. I have not found a way to do this – Lightroom only tells me what percentage of the image is showing and it can be at any scale. Can anyone say how I should go about this?

You are not doing anything wrong - except to try this in the Lr Book Module.
The Lr Book Module is not a full fledged book layout program, and many things that you expect for a book layout program can't be done.
I would not be so "picky" as to wanting to avoid any up- or downsampling.
But if you absolutely have to, use Blurb Booksmart or Adobe InDesign to do this. In Blurb Booksmart you can design an image box to exact dimensions in inches.
In Lr you cannot do this, a feature that many users want but it seems that Adobe is adamant that templates is the way to go. Lr 5 beta has not changed this.
You can download Blurb Booksmart free of charge from Blurb's website. You will like the freedom of page design that Booksmart offers.
Disadvantages: Your workflow is more complicated than using the Book Module in Lr. And you are bound to print with Blurb.
With Booksmart you have to export the images from Lr to a specific folder from which Booksmart loads the images. But every time you change an image in Lr you have to export it again and load it again in Booksmart.
If you also use the Blurb plug-in for Lr you can create a Blurb Publish Service. Changes to an image that has already been published have to be re-published in Lr but the changes will "carry through" into the book automatically.
Finally, I question whether you can actually test the size of an image in the Lr Book Module by printing the page with your printer. There are reports on this forum that the printed image size is not exactly as shown in the Lr Print Module. I have observed this too with my printer. Mostly the printed image is about 1/8 of an inch larger than in the Lr Print Module. The reason might lie in how the printer translates pixels into ink droplets - just a guess of mine.

  • Editing a book image with Develop module on second screen

How would I edit a picture in the "Develop" Module while having the "Book" Module open? I have dual screens and would like to modify a pictures look and balance my pictures based on how the others look on the same page.
It is a very cumbersome process to switch between the two modules ("Develop" & "Book") when I could just use dual monitors.
Any ideas or solutions would be most helpful.
    Thank you!

  • My (saved) book totally disappeared from the Book module in Lightroom

    Dear +Adobe Photoshop Lightroom,
I have been working for the past 100 hours or so on a 200+ page book in the book module in LR4.
Went to work on a second book that I had just begun to organize and came back to a full filmstrip (including the usage numbers showing me that all of the images had been used including a tiny 2 for a cover image) and the 4 blank pages we all see upon starting a project.
My entire book was gone. Poof!
I'm surprised you didn't hear my scream all the way in San Jose.
This couldn't be...I had officially saved the book several weeks ago when I first began it and had been working on it steadily ever since.
(For the record, I am working on a Mac OS X v10.7.5 and updated LR to v4.2.)
I can't begin to tell you the sick feeling over losing this amount of work.
I went to your LR forums to see if this was unique to me (Did I inadvertently hit a button I shouldn't have?)
I have always felt very confidant in LR's "saving" and "backup" abilities. Now I am devastated and have lost total confidence.
Do I try again in LR or move to another program?
So a friend helped me find these:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4303611
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4322352
(Which I've read very thoroughly and tried everything suggested.)
When I opened my most recent backup of LR, all the text was missing and many of the images were in color (this is a book of monochrome imagery)
    Huh?
When I went into my Time Capsule backups, same thing.
No text and many images were reset to original RAW files as if no post-processing had been done.
    Huh? (Again)
The thing that is genuinely unsettling is Adobe's lack of response to the issues expressed in the forums.
Surely the book making ability is an important one to your audiences?
Did I mention how sick I am over this?
So my question is this...can you help me? Can anyone there help me?
Because I really need help right now and don't want to lose confidence in a company that has always provided me with the tools I make my living from.
Or should I put this out publicly.
Right now I want to scream "Do not under any circumstances make a book using the book module in LR 4 until this devastating issue is addressed!!!"
(Fortunately, I have over 2,000,000 followers here on Google+ but not to worry...many do not speak English or know Adobe as anything more than material used to build huts.)
I am trying to stay reasonable. But again, I am very concerned over the lack of responsiveness on Adobe's part. Perhaps that will help get this problem addressed. Or more importantly, help a few other creative folks avoid how absolutely devastated I feel right now.
    (Big *******' sigh)
    Please respond. Please.
    Regards Alan Shapiro

It states in the iBooks Store that this book can only be read on an iPad or Mac.

  • Changes made in Book Module do not "stick" when the book has been duplicated

    Lr 5.2 stand-alone version (not CC) – Win 7 64-bit
I had made a duplicate of the book (right-click the book Collection and select <Duplicate>). Then I made changes to the original book – changed the font for captions and for body; changed the wording of the body text; changed the padding for images. At some point in the process these changes did not '”stick” anymore. The changes were visible as long as I worked in the Book Module. But the changes were gone and the book reverted to the previous state as soon as I went to the Library and back to the Book Module. Same thing happened when I closed Lr and re-opened it.
Replacing the Preference File did not change this behavior. But when I deleted the duplicate book the behavior of Lr went back to “normal”, i.e. the changes now “stick”.
In my opinion there must be a bug that prevents that changes “stick” when after a Duplicate of a book has been created.

You're not the only one using TCS1. I, too, must endure Adobe's initial FM-RH Integration software offering with its limited patches and multiple workarounds (I don't sound bitter, do I?).
Do you have the latest patches?
When you say you modified titles in your FM book, did you modify the document titles from the book file, thereby changing the file names? Or did you change heading styles within a FM document/chapter?
If you changed the file name in any way, verify in the RH Project Manager that all links to the referenced FM files are not broken. If any file links are broken, you can resolve them in the RH Project Manager.
Changing a heading name within a FM document should not cause you this grief, as long as the file links between FM and RH remain intact.
As I don't know your level of experience, I'll make an suggestion to someone new to FM-RH integration (although, since you're using TCS1, I presume you are an experienced user). When updating the RH project, are you selecting Force Update or Update All. Force Update applies changes made in FM to your RH project. Update All only applies changes made in RH.
Also, RH has a feature that allows you to select specific topics to ignore when running a Force Update (i.e. changes in FM won't be applied to the selected topics). Make sure no topics are selected for this purpose.
If all else fails (and I don't recommend this unless you tried every other possibility), delete and re-import the book. There's another thread that helps you through this process without you having to manually reapply your settings.
    Good luck!

  • Lightroom 5 book module - suddenly the book 236 page book that I have been working on has mysteriously disappeared!!!  Please help, as I am starting to panick!!!

I have been working hard on making a book in the Lightroom 5 book module for the past 6 months.  I am close to being finished, and am doing my final edits.  Suddenly, my book is only appearing as a 2 page blank book under the same heading, and has no images showing.  When I go to the library, or develope module all the photos are still there, but under book module they are suddenly gone.  Please help, as I am starting to panick!

First, are you 100% certain? In Library, double click the book. Does this take you to the "2 page blank book"? I assume yes, but let's be certain.
What version of Lightroom? 5.7 is the latest.
Restore a copy of your catalogue from a recent backup. Go to the book collection in Library, right click it, and choose Export as Catalog. This should create a small catalogue containing your book. Open it, and check it's right - if not, try an earlier backup.
If it's OK, then return to your main catalogue, rename the "2 page blank book" by putting "old" on the end, and use File > Import from Another Catalogue to bring the small catalogue into it. Does this solve the problem?

  • How can I turn off the price display in the Book module?

I would love to use the book module to design wedding albums with my clients, but with my cost splashed all over the screen I can only imagine the negotiations that will happen over the price I'll be charging them!  What I need is to be able display the client price,  something allowing a mark-up percentage would be great, however for now I would be happy just to turn it off.

John, with all due respect (and I do have the utmost respect for your opinion and your contributions here and elsewhere) that just doesn't stand the litmus test. Could you please pont out another Adobe authored application that is so restrictive as to what can be exported. Or so restrictive as to document size and customization to the point where I must either use an outside application or wait patiently for vendors "to come on board" in order to achieve my desired customization? Other than Flash of course ... even then Adobe has gone to great lengths of late to make output from that app much more versatile with conversion options to other devices.
Let's experiment with the other modules and see if your information about Adobe's methods for the Book module holds water:
    Develop Module:
"Adobe have stated elsewhere why they initially went with Nikon (worldwide coverage, customer profiles) and that there are mechanisms for other camera makers to come on board."
    Print Module:
"Adobe have stated elsewhere why they initially went with Epson (worldwide coverage, customer profiles) and that there are mechanisms for other printer manufacturers to come on board."
    Web Module:
"Adobe have stated elsewhere why they initially went with Internet Explorer (worldwide coverage, customer profiles) and that there are mechanisms for other internet browser developers to come on board."
    Slideshow Module:
"Adobe have stated elsewhere why they initially went with WMV (worldwide coverage, customer profiles) and that there are mechanisms for other video file options to come on board."
As I have shared elsewhere, when I want to design a custom size for a book in Aperture 3, I simply select Custom, type in the dimensions and margin sizes and procede to lay out the book. Once completed, I can export the book to the favored vendor (Which could be Blurb for all I know), export to PDF, Export the pages or spreads to TIFF or JPEG ... and all this in one of those terrible restrictive, limiting and "closed" Apple software options ...
I'm sorry, but the Book module in it's current form is almost a total non-feature for many users. Adobe simply got it wrong. I expected much more from them and was willing to pay for it. Half-measures are not sollutions. Unfortunately for Adobe, I only invest in sollutions not more workarounds.

  • Change cell size in book module

I would like to change the cell size in the book module, not altering the cell padding which just adjusts the size of the photo within the cell, I want to edit the actual cell.  Is this possible?

I believe that Cell Size is fixed for any of the template pages in LR.
However if you choose the "Full Page" template, you can unlink the "padding" sliders to size and position a cell where you wish, along with zooming the image size. But limited to only one image on the page!

  • Book Module Export PDF Quality Poor - any solutions?

    Hello,
I am trying to figure out a solid solution / workflow for making PDF porfolio's for clients.
The commercial studio where I work needs to send pdf portfolio's to potential clients quite often.
So far we have not been able to find a perfect solution on how to do this with any adobe product (including ACROBAT!)
one of 2 things seem to continually happen.
    1. Gigantic file sizes for decent quality PDF's (75 mb +)
    2. Horrible color shifts and degraded picture quality for usably sized (3-7mb) portfolio's.
I was hopeful that the new Book Module in LR4 would solve this issue.
admitedly the quality is better IF I save it at jpeg quality 100 and a dpi of 240 but this resulted in a 74 MB file (for 31 images on a 8x10 page)
I clearly can not send a file that large with email....
as soon as I make the dpi or jpeg quality lower they look like total garbage...
Further more the colors shift greatly (on the lower res versions) when opened in something other then Acrobat reader (ie Mac Preview)
Could someone please share a workflow that will result in profesional quality PDF's at a screen resolution.
    We have / use the CS5 suite / LR4 / Acrobat Pro
In short as a PRO studio I want PRO quality our of my PRO software...
I would like to keep it as simple and streamlined as possible.
and if at all possible do it all within LR4.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks.

Thanks, I haven't used the LR4 Book module that much and only saw the 'Export Book to PDF' button at the left-bottom of the screen. I tried a Book module 'PDF' Export using 7x7 size, Quality 80, sRGB, 150 dpi, and Standard Glossy sharpening. Here are the results:
    1) PDF file size = 3.3 MB
    2) Standard Optimized PDF (Acrobat 9 compatibility) = 3.2 MB
I next tried the 'Export Book to PDF' button:
    3) PDF file size = 4.8 MB
    4) Standard Optimized PDF (Acrobat 9 compatibility) = 975 KB
When viewed on my 25" 1920 x1080 monitor on Windows 7 64bit in Acrobat 9 Pro at 'Fit to Page' zoom size all four PDF files look identical in color and sharpness. When viewed in 'Full Screen' mode only the largest file size PDF (#3 above) created using the 'Export Book to PDF' button exhibits good sharpness. This is probably due to the size of the exported JPEG image having insufficient resolution to fill the screen at 100% (1:1 pixel mapping):
    7" x 7" Book at 150 dpi = 6.88" x 150 = 1032x 1032 (Mapped to my 1920 x 1080 monitor)
    Requires 1080/6.88" = 157 dpi minimum
    7" x 7" Book at 170dpi = 6.88” x 170= 1170 x 1170 (Mapped to your 2560 x 1440 monitor)
    Requires 1440/6.88" = 210 dpi minimum
I next created a Book PDF file (3.7 MB) with the above calculated 157 dpi for my 1920 x1080 monitor viewing in Full Screen mode. The results are as sharp as the full-size ‘Export Book to PDF’ file (4.8 MB). I then tried a PDF optimization of the 4.8 MB file using Acrobat Optimization downsample setting of 157 dpi for images above 235 dpi and obtained an equally sharp file 1.0 MB in size. So this method still seems to produce a smaller file than obtainable direct from the LR Book module.
For your NEC MultiSync PA271w monitor with higher 2560 x1440 resolution try using 210 dpi, 80 quality and Standard Glossy Sharpening. When I used Matte High settings the image was clearly over-sharpened for screen viewing. Next try the ‘Export to PDF’ button and then ‘PDF Optimization’ in Acrobat Pro using 210 dpi downsample setting. It shouldn’t hurt to go slightly higher in dpi, but you don’t want to go lower than ‘Full Screen’ 1:1 pixel mapping.

  • I've edited an image on Lightroom and gone back and edited again.  Is there anyway to get back to that original edit of the image?

I've edited an image on Lightroom and gone back and edited again.  Is there anyway to get back to that original edit of the image?

In the History Panel (on the left) of the Develop Module, click on any previous edit to see what the photo looked like at that step.
If you are going to regularly want to see two versions of edits on a single photo, consider using either virtual copies or snapshots.

  • Anyone else seeing this (in book module)

I'm having an interesting time trying out the book module...
First, I'm familiar with Blurb, having used their software for a half dozen books, so the software isn't a surprise.  Given that...
I created a book (7x7, hardback) and uploaded it to Blurb.  Good.
I then duplicated the book so as to make a softcover book.  This is where it went.. strange.
The "new" book didn't have the same format.  Funny, thought it was supposed to be a duplicate... so, I cleared the format and started over.
Then I went back to my first book to copy the text out of it.
When I went back to my "new" book, it was now blank.  I don't mean the pages were blank, I mean I didn't even have pages in the preview window!
I then went back to my first book... now _it's_ gone.
Exiting and restarting LR doesn't help, they're blank.
I've recreated the book again (using the one on Blurb to make sure it's in the same order), and tried again.  Sigh.
Just checking... it seems the book module is not quite.. finished yet?
    Cheers!

    Thanks Rhonda,
I didn't think I missed mention of it but I am an oldster and anythings possible these days....))))
Glad to know that the Hosts are aware. Surprised I was the only one mentioning it down here in the lowly level threes and below...hopefully this will let others know that come across this and wondering whats what.

  • How to adjust brightness in book module

I created a book with 75 or so photos using Lightroom 5.3. Everything is ok and all done - but I forgot that my display is overbright so that I can see things clearly. On single images, I increase brightness and contrast in the print module before saving off a single file to print. I don't want to do this to all the 75 images one at a time. is there a way to adjust the brightness/contrast in the book module kind of in a batch?
If not, what does the print adjustment equal to in the develop module? For example, I have found through testing, that if I go with +67 brightness and +51 contrast in the print module, it compensates any photo that I have developed in the develop module with my overbright display.
