LR 5 exporting low res files

Hi
My LR5 is exporting low res files for some weird reason. I figure it has to do with the fact that I recently started using the smart preview  function. What made me almost 100% certain is has to do with this is the fact that I removed the hard drive that the files were linked to in LR, and then I was still able to export files. Now that in my mind shouldn't be as that file would be based on the smart preview created.
With all that said....any ideas on how to get around this?

The export feature is available when using smart previews. Sometimes users want to export images to post on the web or to give to clients for evaluation. You simply have to be aware of what you are doing.

  • Low-res File Icons In Finder!

Not all of my file icons are high-res in Finder. For example Web Internet Location files, Disk Image files and MP3 files all have low-res icons. Is this a Leopard bug or did something go wrong during the upgrade from Tiger to Leopard on my machine?
How can I get all of these icons showing up in high-res?

While Quick Look decodes a surprisingly large number of file types, it doesn't decode them all. Oddly enought, considering that webloc files are created in Finder out of Safari, it doesn't do anything with them: one would think it would at least display the URL, but it doesn't. It also doesn't display Safari's webarchive files, which is even stranger (and worse, in my opinion). Apple needs to write the code to get these to display in Quick Look. I'm sure they will, especially for Safari's own webarchives. The same thing for various other file types that don't currently display in Quick Look: someone has to write some code to create QuickLook generator plug-ins. There are many that are simply buit-in, and I have two add ons from Apple: one for GarageBand files and one for iWork files, they are here:
    "/Library/QuickLook"
As developers begin to take advantage no doubt more will show up when you update your third-party programs.

  • High res aep files imported to prpro export low res

I create an after effects file for a lower third. Look beautiful. Renders to avi great.
I import that file into prpro cs6. I put in the timeline, export mpeg2-dvd - it looks horrible (very low resolution).
    What am I doing wrong?
    Mark

    OK. I have the files.
I took a look at each one in MediaInfo.
The first image is from the file you exported from After Effects. As you can see, it was created at 720p (HD). It has a HUGE data rate of 553Mb/s. It better look good with that much data behind it!.
By the way, in order to make this a lower third you need to export to a codec that has an Alpha channel - meaning you export as a 32 bit file to get rid of the white background - assuming you don't have a white background in your comp. It is fine to create a comp with a white background but you need to hide it when you export to a 32 bit file. That way you can see through it to the video below. There are a few like Quicktime Animation which offers a 32 bit file for use with an alpha channel.
The second one is the AVI you exported from Premiere Pro. It was exported from Premiere Pro at the standard definition (PAL) setting.   It is not standard DV AVI because DV AVI only uses a data rate of about 30Mb/s (including the audio) and this one is way over that. I assume that is a function of the Aja card in your computer.
The third image is from the MPEG2-DVD export. As you can see, you changed from 25 frames per second to 29.97. And you changed from PAL to NTSC. Also, the data rate is a pathetic 3.8Mb/s
So, you started with a pristine high definition image from After Effects. You exported to a form of AVI that allowed you to keep a high data rate. Then you changed horses in mid stream and exported to NTSC.
I have heard of mixing apples and oranges, but you threw some tomatoes into that mix. Rotten ones.
Be aware that NTSC (Never Twice the Same Color) is not a friendly format for crisp, sharp lines.
Why don't you tell us where you live and if it is not in the USA, perhaps all you need to do is export to a PAL format instead of NTSC.
Here it is exported to H.264 at 5Mb/s using 25 frames per second off of a PAL sequence set for widescreen. Looks fine. Just remember. It is only uploaded as a standard definition file, so don't expect to see it full screen and get 100% of the quality. Use the larger YouTube box, OK, but not full screen. And remember to view it at 480p and not a lower resolution.
MediaInfo show this. See how low the data rate is? And yet it looks fine.
I exported to MPEG2-DVD for you. Download it from http://www.stevengotz.com/files/lower-third-test.m2v (Right click on the link and Save As - do not play it from my site or you may be disappointed)
MediaInfo shows this. Still a low bit rate, but the correct frame rate and frame size. That really made the difference.
In conclusion, export to PAL if that is what you need. Otherwise, rework the comp to 29.97 and set the sequence to DV AVI (NTSC). Then export as NTSC. Also, if viewing this on your computer, make sure the window you are using never exceeds 720X576 or you are forcing the computer to invent pixels where there were none.

  • Low Res files or no sound in Adobe Encore?? Please Help!

Okay, I have a project which is around 1h 30 and I am aiming to burn it to DVD
However, I have tried exporting as MPEG2 for DVD from the premier pro presets and when imported into encore there is no sound on the timeline and the footage appears very poor quality. I am new to Premier Pro CS6 and encore so please be patient with me! Haha.
I then tried exporting as a MOV and transcoding however again the footage appears low quality and is too large for a standard DVD disc.
The footage was recorded on a Canon 5D MK II
Please help! I am going out of my mind!

When you use MPEG2 for DVD as a preset, the audio is not multiplexed.  This means that the audio will be included on a separate audio file, which should be found in the same directory as the video file you exported.
In terms of quality - what exactly is the issue?  You can play with the video settings to try to improve some of the quality, but you need to set your expectations to the fact that DVDs are always Standard Definition, so they usually look pretty crummy on a large computer monitor.

  • Scaling text and shape made in lower res file?

I created a selection, filled it and put text on top of it in a 72 ppi file and copied the group to an image with much higher resolution. I transformed the shape and text to make it bigger. Does doing this affect quality? It looked ok, I'm just curious.
    Thanks.

Vectors are resolution independant, so Shape layers and Type layers will scale without damage to edge quality.
However, there's a pitfall if you place the 72 ppi document as a Smart Object in a 200 ppi document. The SO will be automatically scaled to maintain its size in inches in the new document. The fact that it is scaled isn't a problem in itself since you'd be doing that manually if it wasn't automatic. But when the SO is scaled, the pixel representation of its embedded document (not the embedded file itself which remains unchanged) will be scaled and (non-destructively) degraded by resampling in the same way as a regular pixel layer would be.
You can avoid the SO scaling problem by opening the 72 ppi document, or a duplicate, and using Image > Image Size to resample it to 200 ppi. That higher resolution document can be used itself or it can be placed as a Smart Object in other 200 ppi documents.
By the way, characters of a given size of font will be rendered with slightly different forms in documents of differing resolution to maintain legibility despite increasing pixelation in lower resolution documents.

  • Automating export low res web jpgs

    Hi!
I work on some very large, many layered Tiff files. I often need a 1000 px sRGB jpg for email or web. When I go to export for web, the processing/preview time is VERY long.
Is there an action or better way to export a WEB/sRGB 1000px jpg in one step?
I haven't tried it yet but I know their is a new function where PS wills ave out web assets if you label ther layer (seay .jpg or .png. But I think that would still be at the original large size.
Just trying to streamline. When I'm in Lightroom, I can just go to exoport to email and it does the 800px conversion instantly. 800 seems to be its largest scaled size.
    Thanks
    Max

    For posterity.
I found this link helpful using GENERATOR:IMAGE ASSETS. seems to be the easiest way to generate the jpgs I needed without the wait caused by Save for Web.
    Thanks

  • Why are low res files jpeg very slow to open on Mac?

PS6 has suddenly started taking way too long to open any of my files. This includes small (500mb) jpeg files. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, trashed the prefs and tried using a different administrator account.

  • Aperture and Flickr Export Problems - Missing Files

I have a MacPro, Aperture 3, and Flickr Pro account. I was planning on using Flickr as an online storage/back-up option for lower-res files. However, whenever I try to upload a project to Flickr files always seem to drop off.
For example, if I export a project with 446 files in it, when it gets to Flickr it'll say I only have 403 images. Likewise if I try a smaller project (e.g., 426 -> 404).
Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas what is the cause of this problem?
Also, any way to remove that 500 upload limit per project to Flickr? Flickr itself does not limit the number of photos you can store in a set.
    Thanks!

Maybe it's related to this bug?

  • Converting from low-res to high-res

I have read that there are ways to convert low res files to higher res upon export with Lightroom (perhaps via interpolation).  Can anyone tell me how to accomplish this?   Thanks!

When you're exporting, set the size in the export window.  LR will up or down size as needed to make the final image that size.

  • Managing  Hi and Low resolution files

I'm afraid I know the answer, but am hoping I missed something that will solve my dilemma. I am using iTunes to replace my entire CD collection. I have ripped 300+ cds in Apple loseless format to replace my cd player for both my main audio system, as well as a whole house audio distribution system.
What I really want to do is to be able to load my ipod with these same songs, but at a much lower resolution (i.e. 128).
I realize that I can make itunes re-rip my music @128, but I absolutely do not want 2 copies of the same song/album, etc showing up in my Library.....
I'd be thrilled if I could 1) create a second library where I could store these lower res files, or 2) make itunes rerip on the fly when it transerfers files to my ipod.
So far, I can't find a way to make it do either. Am I missing somenthing? Is there an alternative solution? Is wanting to use high res files for a home system, and low res for mobile so far fetched that apple can't find some way to accomidate it? I am thrilled with my ipods, but extremely frustrated with the lack of useabilty in itunes.
Please help.... PS is there any other software out there (JRiver, etc, that will do what I want to do?)
    Thanks,
    Jason

    Lane,
I think your suggestion may finally be the answer I am looking for!!! I just have a couple of questions on how to actually implement your suggested solution. I have created a second username on my PC. When I launch iTunes from the second username, my music library is basically empty.
What I'd really like to end up with is my full music collection, in 128 aac under my second user name... I'd love some instructions on how to accomplish this..
I hope I'm making sense... any clarification you can provide is extremely appreciated. I feel like I'm this close to finally being able to use the system the way I really want to.
    Thanks again for your help,
    Jason

  • All my library pics are low res!! HELP!

just as the title says! i think it began after i installed the 'fatbooth' app. can anyone help??

Is there a preference within the app which allows you to export lower res photos? It is not unusual for an app to offer this (and indeed set this as the default).
Photos taken from your camera should be native high resolution. Photos synched from your computer are down-sampled so they will appear lower-res than what you might remember seeing them on your computer.
Edit: Also make sure you've not zoomed in digitally - this is the main cause of photos looking low-res!

  • Exporting slideshow to .mov file using Ken Burns looks low res?

I've created a slide show using the Ken Burns effect exclusively, and after I export as an .mov file and pull that into iDVD (or watching it in QT player) the moves look like a very low resolution image was used instead of the high res files that I know are there. Any ideas of how to fix this? or is this just the way iPhoto handles the files when using Ken Burns FX.

Have your tried the procedure that seems to solve a variety of problems for the iLife applications? Quit iPhoto and delete your iPhoto preferences. To do this, go to your username> library> preferences> com.apple.iphoto.plist. Delete this file. Then reopen iPhoto; it will create a new preference file with all of the default settings.
Ken Burns also...images do not fit to screen any more.
I am not aware of an option to make the Ken burns effect "fit to screen". This effect is applied in a somewhat random fashion, so what you see on one playing of your slideshow can be slightly different when viewed again. You can avoid undesirable changes, like cutting off the tops of heads, by manually applying the KB effect to photos in question. The control is at the bottom of the window when in the slideshow mode. When you are satisfied with the way the slideshow looks, export it as a QuickTime movie.
    I hope this helps.

  • Exporting HD footage turns into low res pixel mess

I have the following problem. I imported Video files into a HD 720p60 FCP timeline. Sequence settings are: HD 960x720 (16:9)
compressor is HD720p60. fps accidentally is 23.98 but no sound so sync is not an issue.
Now every time I try to change the settings (say to 29.97) or export as a quicktime movie, the picture quality goes to ****. it turns super pixely and low res. I never had this issue and I am at the end of my wits. I tried converting the footage to every possible format with different compressions, no luck.
The original video files are 854x480, codex is interger (big Endian) HDV 720p60. I used MPEG STREAMCLIP to create the video files.
    Thanks for any help,
    Kris

If your original files are 854x480 (and the source could easily be 720x480 anamorphic) I would advise working with a timeline that is at the source resolution and frame rate. EVERY conversion you make will degrade your image quality. This includes the frame rate change you have going on in Compressor.
Work in Final Cut with the same sequence settings as your source, then send it to Compressor at the end and make only one change. This is the big point. Your 720p60 is upconverting your resolution and change your frame rate to 60 progressive. From there you're dropping down to 29.97. That's two converts when you could probably be getting away with one. Also the HD720p60 is anamorphic if I remember right, so unless you're feeding it anamorphic clips you'll be cutting your horizontal resolution down.
If you are working with some clips captured using MPEG Streamclip and some HD video that is in fact 720p60 my advice would be on using Compressor to change your Streamclip videos to have the same settings as your other video. Just drag them from the Finder into Compressor and find/build a setting that matches what you have. I would probably add a mild sharpening to them so they hold together a little better when blown up.
As far as Final Cut is concerned you are then working with the same kinds of clips on the timeline despite being from two sources.
Codecs/formats are a mess. Just like a paper airplane flies worse every time you refold the paper into a new model, video looks worse every time you switch to a different codec/frame rate/resolution.
