LR4 import very slow...Can you direct import?

I miss the way LR3 imported images without searching for the source is there a way to speed up the process? Can you stop LR4 from searching for every image on your drives?

I got the same problem. The export of 17GB database took 4 hours, most of the time it just stays there with one process (the first worker). The regular export took 3 hours. The import took more thatn 18 hours in 10.2.0.2 DB. I set parallel for 5, but it dosen't help, since most of the time only one worker is running.
I read one paper Note:376969.1 form poor performance, the suggestion is to set the correct parameters:
spincount = 4000
session_cached_cursors = 800
cursor_space_for_time = true
db_cache_advice = OFF
But another Oracle paper mentions that there is no paralellism when the metedata worker is running. So if you have large number of object, but small data set, you don't get performance. It only helps when you have small number of objects, and large data set.
Don't know if any Oracle people can answer that. My experience is that it is much slower than the old export/import in any perspective.

I take it you tried using the "right click" menu? That doesn't seem to work, as you noted, but, you should be able to paste text by pressing your CTRL key and while holding it down, press the "V" letter key.
CTRL + C = COPY
CTRL + X = CUT
CTRL + V = PASTE

Oracle 10gr2 Master/detail form running very slow when you navigate to the detail record.

Hi All, I have a master detail form, running in webserver, when I navigate to the detail block, the form start buffering and buttering for about 2 min. There is a trigger when-new-record instance that is firing when you navigate to a new record : The select part of this stament is taken a long time to execute. I modified this in toad and what used to take 25 seconds to run is taken less than a second now, but the slowness still persists in the form.

The select staement that used to run for 23 seconds is running in less than one second, but the form is still running very slow when I navigate to the detail record.

Thanks Andrea for your prompt response, the problem is the select statement and like I stated, I tuned the select statement in toad and what normally takes 23 secs is taking less than 1 sec to run. If I comment out the call to the function, it is still slow. The select stament will returned null and it will still be slow. When I comment out the for loop, it run very fast. I dont know what else to do than tuned the select statement.

Hi,
the plan isn't showing any problem (the cost isn't high) so it's not possible to use it to troublehshoot the query. Please provide more information: 4-digit Oracle version, and depending on the version, either SQL real-time monitor report or dbms_xplan output with rowsource stats (option "iostats last" after running your sql with ALTER SESSION SET STATISTICS_LEVEL = ALL).
Also, when reporting a performance problem it would be wise to avoid expressions like "very, very slow" replacing them with something more useful like "my query is taking 2.5 hours to retrieve 30k rows".

My iBook is soooooooo slow -- can you please help?

I have an iBook G4 that I purchased about 2 years ago. The only software I have installed on it is the Microsoft Office stuff (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and Photoshop Elements. I mainly use my laptop for photos (just uploading them from my camera to iPhoto) and surfing the internet. I have some word, excel, and other miscellanous files stored it, but nothing that I think would use up significant memory to slow it down. Anyhow, my computer is extremely slooooooow. I transferred a lot of my photos to an external hard drive, thinking this make help speed it up, but it didn't make it any faster. The photos are only 3MB or less each. Sometimes I will upload photos and then my computer will freeze (the little pinwheel thing just keeps spinning and spinning forever). What can I do to make it function faster? Please help -- I'm so annoyed with this laptop!

LR4 Running very slow

I am having a problem with LR4 processing images excrusiatingly slow. Changing from one image to the next gives the whirling rainbow of death for as much as 30 seconds. Highlighting an image in Library and then clicking on Develop gives an empty LR screen for 30 seconds or longer, then the image appears in Develop. Every click or drag with the brush tool also gives the whirling rainbow of death for 10 to 20 seconds, and so on. Print module, same thing. I thought it might be the relatively new Seagate external hard drive I was using, so I moved the entire folder of images (3300 images) to a hard drive that I have been using for years. Same thing. So then I moved the entire folder of images right onto the Mac under Pictures, to make certain it isn't the HD (I don't normally keep images on the 1TB internal Mac drive; I am only using 1.6GB of space with all my programs and have 10GB RAM). Same problem. Photoshop, Word, Outlook, Acrobat, et al, are working normally. The images only bog down in LR4. Never had this problem with earlier versions. Anyone else experiencing this?

I am having a similar issue, only mine is with a photo set of only 10 or so photos. When I use the clone/heal tool, it lags tremendously! Additionally, when I make edits in the exposure, brightness, lights, etc., there is a short lag before it actually updates the photo.
Before, when I was using LR3, no problems. Only issue I had was with the brush size, that everyone was experiencing.
I am currently using:
Macbook Air 11.6"
Core i5 1.6ghz
4GB ram
256GB SSD
When I look at system info through LR4, it is only using about 1.5GB of ram. I don't have any other programs open either. This is quite weird to me. Now I'm a little frustrated because I need to finish this set of photos, but I don't want to jump back and forth between LR3 and LR4. The point of purchasing LR4 was to be able to make a smooth transition. There goes that ship. lol. Hopefully Adobe can find out what the issue is though, I really like using LR.

but it still runs painfully slow.
I spent the day putting files in the trashbin. Today I am deleting them perm. BUt even the empty function is slow. It can take 2 or 3 seconds to delete a single file. Right now, the process has been stuck on the same file delete for almost a minute.
I have run disk utils, and it came back instantly as fine.
So, I have 4 questions.
1... is there a check list to improve speed.
2... It there a utiltiy program I should run to confirm my files. I have uninstalled a number of programs. Perhaps they were not uninstalled properly?
3... I understand that there are some disksweep tools to stay away from. Especially the free once. Can I get a list of the bad players
4... I am thinking of replacing the Hard Drive with an ssd/hard drive combo. they seem to be getting cheaper, and I have heard some good thinkgs about them. I know it would void my warrentee, butcan I get some stories about the transition.
