Lync Desktop sharing fails in Citrix users for peer to peer session

Hello,
We have Lync 2013 servers and we have some user having citrix session and using lync. When users is citrix try to share the desktop with normal desktop lync client users , error message says connection not established.
when checkng the logs of citrix users..it says
ms-client-diagnostics: 52164; reason="Appsharing session disconnected due to RDP stack closed the connection";CalleeMediaDebug="application-sharing:ICEWarn=0x0,LocalSite=172.24.41.128:65494,LocalMR=194.187.115.31:50760,RemoteSite=10.1.106.214:65493
Citrix to Citrix sessions working fine, and Nomal desktop lync client users does not have any issues.
Any one can help?

It is a network issue.
The RDP stack block the traffic of Lync application session.
The port 1024-65535 for client is required to be opened for application sharing.

  • How Lync desktop sharing works for internal users

    Hi,
How Lync desktop sharing,  Aplication sharing & A/v conferencing works Internally ?
is it uses Webconfrencing Edge server & A/V Conf Edge server for internal users also...
I have confusion on this please help me and guide me how to deploy internally.
does it works with edge server internally if yes how ?
    Thanks !!!

No internal to internal conferencing, A\V and desktop share does not use the Edge Server. This is all handled by the Front End Server\s.
For assistance on deploying please refer to http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Lync-Server-2012-9d6fe954

  • Lync Desktop Sharing pausing for actions an administrator needs to accept

When using Lync desktop sharing on a user that is a local administrator on their computer, the lync desktop sharing session pauses each time I try and execute a program or go into the registry? UAC is active on the users computer and we are not going to
turn this off for security reasons. We have used other products like Cisco WebEx, Citrix Desktop Sharing, LogMeIn, etc... and they don't have a problem with the UAC prompts, only lync is having these issues. Is there a patch or a setting
somewhere to allow these evelated privilages for a lync desktop sharing session?

I'm visiting these threads because I also would like to use Lync to assist my end users within a screen sharing session.
Let's say my Sales VP has an issue, and uses Lync to contact me.. we start a screen sharing session, and I see how I can fix it... but as soon as admin permissions are needed, we're stuck... I can't see or type my admin creds, and I'm not going to tell him
to type mine in.. so I either have to switch to LogMeIn, RDSH into his machine (more disruptive) or hike over to his office, (where our offices are on a 90 Acre park...if he's even on-site)
It would be most excellent if named users could be assigned permissions within 365 so that they could perform help desk tasks, where Lync recognizes admin credentials and allows administrative tasks to be performed on the host.
Bringing this feature to Lync would be a real benefit.
I would love to ditch LogMeIn as their business model is changing, and anyway, they're not free.
So what are the technical or security challenges here?
    best regards.

  • Things which can break Lync desktop sharing

    Proxy URL filter
For one of my customers, Lync desktop sharing suddenly stopped working only from a particular network. All required ports were opened, telnet , tracert all fine, also sometimes we saw it working , so it was intermittent.  you can guess what security
and network team will say J.
Then captured traffic in netmon and it shows that there is reset for 443 traffic and uccplog shows error which points to 443 inspection device on the network , so shared it with network and security team, you wouldn’t guess their response this time
J they asked me to identify the device which is resetting 443 session.  Now I only had to solve this issue, I knew even PSS engineer can only tell us that there is reset.
I started off with question  How it works some times?” , answer to this is that whenever it worked someone from Local IT team has logged in to that computer, also when logged in as normal users netstat shows time wait for 443 and sometimes sharing invitation
expires.  This gave me a clue, so I asked for a new laptop which is not a member of any domain and started drilling down. ..Finally found that URL filtering rule has been applied to users in that subnet and corp application FQDNs are not bypassed. It
was URL filtering application which was stopping this traffic.
I told security team that proxy is causing this issue GUESS WHAT they asked me why they were not informed about Lync FQDN earlier

It was another lovely day in office talking all important topics like work life balance, movies , next best weekend place etc… suddenly tickets started flowing for desktop sharing issue. Immediately P1 case was opened and all of us specialist joined P1 bridge
just to say WE DID NOT DO ANY CHANGES! Now someone is surely jealous of someone being happy or someone has not followed the change process. Who it is? And what it is has to be investigated, of course  by Lync team.
Again netmon says 443 rest and error message says 443 inspection.. Being a Microsoft application  expert you are not done yet without finding out which device is doing it, isn’t  it? . So started isolating the issue. Noticed that issue is happening
only from specific region only. So asked everyone on call what is so special about this region…there was a dead silence and there was a smart answer YOU TELL US! Well this went on for a while till someone from network team asked with low tone
will wan  optimizer has any impact on Lync traffic??
    J
It was WAN optimizer which was causing this issue.

  • External clients desktop sharing fails

After reading through various articles and forum posts I am desperate enough to contribute my first post...
    The Problem:
We have successfully implemented a Lync 2010 infrastructure.
    Internal to Internal works perfect
Internal to external (or vice versa) works perfect except for desktop sharing (Audio /Video works perfect)
(with external being an internal user in an external network)
I tried to narrow down the problem and found the following issues:
23; reason="Call failed to establish due to a media connectivity failure when one endpoint is internal and the other is remote";CallerMediaDebug="application-sharing:ICEWarn=0x800029,LocalSite=192.168.18.105:5388,LocalMR=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:3478(public
    IP Adress from AV.xxx.de) ,RemoteSite=192.168.10.73:5378,RemoteMR=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:56119
    (public IP Adress from AV.xxx.de)
    ,PortRange=5350:5389,RemoteMRTCPPort=56119,LocalLocation=1,RemoteLocation=2,FederationType=0"
So basically a client connects from behind a NAT device to the external IP of the edge av interface and the internal client tries to connect to the same external ip?
Is that meant to be that way?
Second issue (or same issue but different perspective) same scenario(but network Sniffer on the firewall):
    request reaches FW:
    50.436292 port2 in Guest IP:35962 -> external AV Edge IP:59676: syn 2844552579
request routed through FW to the internal DMZ IP:
    50.436857 Lync-extern out Guest IP:35962 -> 172.16.13.204:59676: syn 2844552579
    session gets resetted:
    50.437046 Lync-extern in 172.16.13.204:59676 -> Guest IP:35962: rst 0 ack 2844552580
This repeats very often till both clients get a notice about "Network issuses.
On the Edge Server I did an netstat -oa and found Port 59676 to be listening (TCP)
I read so much in the last days that I am totally confused by now and I think the documentation on tech net is faulty somehow.
(at least regarding port 50.000 ->59.999)
Maybe the issue is DNS related (we got split DNS in place)?
Any thoughts helping me out would be appreciated!
    Thanks Gunni
    Who needs a signature?

    Hello Gunni,
please can you tell what is the vendor, model and firmware of your firewall? Are there any kind of "deep inspection" features enabled in the configuration of the firewall.
I am asking, as we have seen similar issues with an RST that seemed to come from the Lync Edge Server, but in fact the connection reset was done by the firewall. In the mentioned case the firewall is a Juniper, model SSG-5.
Two flow related settings activated in the configuration caused the issue, leading exactly to the ms-client-diagnostic: reason="Call failed to establish due to a media connectivity failure when one endpoint is internal and the other is remote"
“flow tcp-seq-check” -                  (TCP Sequence Check)
“flow tcp-syn-check” -                  (TCP SYNCRO Check)
Please check if your firewall has some similar or identical settings activated!
A lot of time, we investigated the Edge Server for any issues, - we even replaced it with a new one built from the scratch. Nothing helped, till we start looking closer at the firewall and disabled the settings mentioned above. I remember that we thought
the RST comes from the Lync Edge on the first look in NetworkMonitor and Wireshark. But when we started watching the Juniper reports, and comparing the time-stamps we realized that the connection was closed first by the firewall, not the Lync Server.
If your firewall offers a reporting feature (via webinterface, or SNMP, etc.) I recommend you to take a close look to check if the connection is closed here first.
    Thanks and greetings from Berlin,

  • Control Lync desktop sharing between different subnets

Hi all..I want to control desktop sharing between differnet network. You consider this as we have multiple process. So desktop sharing should not work between other federated partners.
I have federation with xxxx.com for one xxxsubnet
another federation with yyyy.com for different yyysubnet
if i allow ports for desktop sharing with federated partner from both the network between theses partners all users can do desktop share.
But i neeed a solution like xxx subnet can share desktop only with xxx.com and yyy can share desktop with yyyy.com

    Hi,
The feature is not available at present. But you can try to use lync Server SDK to customize this feature.

  • Lync phone show failed to obtain user ceetificate

hd420 show failed to obtian user certificate.
it happen on remote site. so far one site have this problem.
how can i import user certificate manually?
it is on-premise lync 2013 server.
    thanks.

    Hi Jo Tse,
You cannot manually install certificates on the device.
The CDP (CRL distribution point) will only appear on certificates created AFTER the CDP is defined. This means that if you have issued certificates, you will need to re-issue certificates
to have the CDP available to those computers. There is no way around this.
About how to configure the CDP, you can refer to the following article.

  • Lync Desktop Sharing paused when asking for a admin credential

Is there any solution from microsoft side for the above mentioned question?

Not at this time.  It was reported that running Lync as administrator could help, but this hasn't been a reliable solution.
Edit: I just reran this to see what it looked like for me as a refresher.  When Lync is run as administrator, the remote user can't click the UAC boxes that allow the program to run in administrative mode, however if I as the sharer of the desktop click
Yes, then the remote controlling person then seemed to have access.  Again, it's not a great solution, this is by design, and not slated to be changed in Lync 2013.

  • Lync Desktop sharing is not working via Remote Access Server / VPN

Sometimes, few users using RAS (Remote Access Server) / VPN are not able to share desktop.
It is irrespective of other user (from other end) is using VPN or Office wired network.
Note - we have enabled VPN split tunnelling for our environment and the issue is happening after that only.
Also, it is happening with few users not all.
laptop is : HP elitebook 2570p
    any resolution ?

    Hi,
Did these issued users also meet the issue internal the corporation?
    1.  Please double check if the split tunnel VPN setting configure correctly with the help of the link below:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/nexthop/archive/2011/11/15/enabling-lync-media-to-bypass-a-vpn-tunnel.aspx
    2.  As the issue only happen for a few users who using VPN, please try to delete Lync user profile and then test again.
    3. Please also try to change another computer with the issued Lync account using VPN to test the issue.
    4. Please also try to test the issue with Internet network instead of VPN to test the issue again.

  • Lync 2013 Desktop Shareing

    Hi all
    this is Lync 2013.
When desktop sharing between 2 external users( Connecting from Internet) will it be P2P or will it go via FE servers ?
When desktop sharing between 1 internal user and 1 External user, will it be via FE server ?
    regards

Sorry about that, I guessed this was common knowledge.
NAT means "Network Address Translation" which is a difficult term for saying that someone is for example sitting at home behind a Router connected to an ISP with one public IP Address and shares the internet access with other devices connected to that user
(essentially enabling all those devices connections to internet without the need of having multiple public IP Adresses)
The process works by hiding the device real IP and replacing with the router Public IP address when it crosses the router and ther router keeps track of Ports and sessions that the different devices have so it knows how to send traffic back to the devices.
A side effect of this is that there is no way of someone on the internet connection can see your IP or contact you directly.  Lync does have a process to try to enable direct communication between clients behind a NAT but that does not guarantee
this will always work, there are cases where it will work and cases where it will never work.  In case it does not work Lync will bridge the connection at the Lync EDGE server.
I hope this explains it better

  • How to block file transfer and desktop sharing in Lync 2010 for Fedrated and Guest Users

    Dear,
Can anybody guide me how to restrict desktop sharing and file transfer for federated and Anonymous logins in Lync 2010.
I have tried to apply this policy through “Conferencing Policy”, but this gets applied to all users including corporate users.
    Please help in this.

    Hi,
As my knowledge, the CsFileTransferFilterConfiguration and setting in confercing policy are used to block transfer file between users. So if the policy is applied to user, the user would not transfer file with anybody. Since all Federation and Guest
Users access thought the Access Edge service, here is a update that helps to enable the control of the file transfer through the Access Edge service.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2621840
The update helps to define the file transfer policy between users on the local area network and users that connect through the Access Edge server in a Microsoft Lync Server 2010 environment. It helps protect Microsoft Lync Server 2010 deployment against
the spread of the most common forms of viruses with minimal degradation to the user experience.

  • What port number for Desktop Sharing using in Lync Server 2013 and Lync Online

    Dear All,
My environment using Lync Server 2013 and Lync online on Office 365. I don't want my user using Desktop Sharing feature. then I need to know what port number for Desktop Sharing using in Lync Server 2013 and Lync Online.
I will deny this port on personal firewall each client.
          Thank you for your advise.

    Hi,
I'm not sure you'd be able to do this with ports without impacting other application sharing features such as Q&A, Whiteboard, Poll etc - I'm pretty sure they all come under the same umbrella of ClientAppSharing.
    Ordinarily you would create or modify your conferencing policy to restrict sharing to single programs only using a cmdlet similar to below;
    Set-CsConferencingPolicy -Identity "Global" -EnableAppDesktopSharing SingleApplication
This would disable desktop sharing but enable users to continue sharing other single programs. If you want to remove that functionality too, then replace the 'SingleApplication' parameter with 'None'. Then users won't be able to share any programs either.
This is the correct way to do it as the icons will be greyed out for the users. Doing it your way, they would still be able to click them, and it would throw an error - this will lead to a lot more support calls and people assuming a service is broken.
    I hope that helps some.
    Kind regards
    Ben

Copy the movie from the current library to the correct library.
iDevices can only sync to one library at a time.

  • Disbale Desktop Sharing in Jabber for Windows for single users

    Hi,
is there possibility to administrative disabling the desktop sharing feature for selected users?
CUP and CUCM is 8.6. Jabber is 10.5. Use DesktopSharing via Chat without any phone or deskphone only.
    Regards

I am referring to the new Screen Sharing way in Jabber 10.5 for screen sharing without having a video call running:
"In addition to the video screen share (BFCP) feature that is available to video-enabled clients when on a call, users can now screen share directly from an IM conversation when video share is not provisioned or available."
