6 keys: "5tgb-[" on mac air keyboard do not work or act up. No known damage.

I took it to the Apple store and they checked it for free. They stated that they found liquid inside (to my great surprise), which costs $800 to fix. I declined, since a new one costs $1100. Even AppleCare would not have covered it, so it was not a problem that my 3-year AppleCare just expired.
I find it quite a coincidence that 2 of us had exact same problem within a week and we both posted it.

    Did you lock it?
If so, press the option key 5 times.
If that is not the case try resetting PRAM,SMC and making sure that battery is charged.

  • Mac air keyboard doesn't light up for login

After Yosemite install, the keyboard on my Mac Air does not light up until after I login.

    Pushkin,
I found that if I turn on FileVault my keyboard backlight doesn't come on at initial Login screen from boot. Nor can I adjust the brightness of my screen or keyboard backlit. The moment I turn off FileVault I can then adjust those things and everything works fine.
I say initial because if I log out of my user and am taken to the login screen I can adjust both keyboard and screen backlights.
You can see if you have FileVault turned on by going to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> FileVault (Tab)
Also I think that its important that we let Apple know this is going on. If you feel up to it I would send them feedback. I mean if you would like to that is. https://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
    Hope that helps,

  • My Mac Air Keyboard Lcked but Makes sounds as if invalid key is being pressed?

My Mac today started acting funky. The keyboard is mostly unresponsive. But i managed to get into one of the none administrative accounts. When in the account though, when i attempt to search things. The keyboard makes sounds as if pressing an invalid key. My trackpad is acting weird as well by bringing up copy paste options and then not wanting to press the x button to close windows. What can I do?

    Hello Sanjit_Das:

But I do not know which  path must specify when the video is uploaded to assets:
Sorry to ask something so absurd.
    I tried putting all
    <source src = "assets / Myvideo.mp4" />
    not working
    <source src = "C: \ Users \ Angel \ Downloads \ NEW \ pruebamusevideo \ assets/Myvideo.mp4">
    not work.
    etc
Presenting want to work from any computer, DVD, memory stick ...
    I'm going crazy.
I know it's something about the route.
From muse Vimeo links to work, but when I export them to HTML not working. I guess it's a problem related to the same.

  • My Mac Air 11.6 Keyboard is HAUNTED!

I asked a question about this a few days ago ... "My Mac Air Keyboard is Krazy!" ... but didn't get a nibble.
Now I have some more information. The trackpad and most of the control keys are fine.  And I'm writing this on an external keyboard, so all of the smarts are working ...
I opened the virtual keyboard and realised it's LIKE THE CONTROL KEYS ARE ALWAYS PRESSED!  I'm getting the symbols and alternate characters you get when you press shift and option, etc
I've restarted, reinstalled, soft repaired and everything, but it is just the same.
Is it just a matter of a keyboard replacement?  Is that costly?  Should I just hand out at the Genius Bar if there's no geniuses here?
PLEASE HELP!  IT'S MY 18 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER'S MAC AIR AND SHE'S ON MY CASE IN A BIG WAY!  SHE'S A GENERATION ZEE, SO IT'S ALL ABOUT THE KEYBOARD CONNECTION!
    HERE IS MY ORIGINAL POST:
OK, My name is Randall and I'm a Mac Head ... I have been using since 1986. Oh, sorry ... wrong support group ...
The keyboard on my Macbook Air 11.6 has gone crazy. Like all of the sudden. All text buttons started coming up as random symbols.  Something would just open and download odd things and do odd shortcuts.
Tried everything ... recovery, rebooting PRAM reset, reinstall of Mavericks and Yosemite ... most control, shift and the power buttons work fine ... with an external keyboard, it works fine.  It's just that the type is all jibberish.
Help me before I go nuts!  I don't want an expensive repair or have a techie tell me it is fakacktah ...
Dying here!  (I had to send this on a f*****g ASUS!)

The unit likely should be taken to an authorized service provider where
a specialist in those models can test/diagnose the problem and then
suggest the methods and estimate cost to cure the condition.
An Apple Store with Genius section could be helpful, if available, & should
you be able to get an appointment for time allocation to discuss the matter.
A Genius or in-store specialist usually can perform tests & diagnose issues.
Given the unit is going on 5(?) years, it may be in need of other replacements
while it is open. Items that wear out, such as they are. A battery, for example.
They may have a flat rate repair fee where for, say, $300 they fix stuff. And
the more that can be lumped into that rate, the better the cost factor.
Or perhaps it may be time to look into another MacBook Pro or Air model.
There are some late model units in Refurbished/Clearance in online Store.
Be sure to predict the use pattern of a new non-user upgradeable model
and purchase sufficient configuration specifications, looking ahead.
Hopefully the issue is cost effective to resolve.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • The keyboard /mouse unresponsive in yosemite on my Mac Air Late 2010

How do I fix the problem of lack of responsiveness with my keyboard/mouse after installing yosemite on my late 2010 Mac Air?  Losing typing ability in mid sentence!!

If the following doesn't work, then there is a server error.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

I would like to darken my Mac Air screen, so I can use may external display and the keyboard on the notebook--it is possible on a PC-does it work on a Mac?

    Sure it's possible.
Go to System Preferences (under the Apple logo on the top left of the menu).
Choose "Display".  There's a slider bar for the screen brightness.  Adjust it and you're all set.

  • Mac Air locked disk

My Mac Air hung the other day and would only boot with the flashing question mark whichis a very terrible sign. I was able to hold the option key and get back into the disk diag screen. It says the disk is ok but you cannot select anything other than verify. I tired to do a re-install of Mac OS but it says the disk is locked. Is there anything that can be done? I have never seen an error like this before. I can install Mac OS on an external drive and the basic hardware all seem ok except it does not see the SSD so my concern is that my SSD is toast. If anyone has any ideas it would be great

There are several ways to back up a Mac that is not fully functional. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot from the Recovery partition or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

You should - if you're in the UAE, for instance, you should get an Arabic keyboard (you may have to specify when you configure your machine - I don't know, I live in the US).
