Mac Error on System.exit(1);

When I close my application, which is exported as runnable jar, using System.exit(1); I get an error.
Mine is in Dutch, but translated it is:
The Java-JAR-file 'file.jar' can't be started.
Check Console for any error messages.
Does anyone recognize this error?

A non-zero return value usually indicates an error.
Maybe Mac OS X takes this to the logical conclusion and shows the error when your app returns a non-zero return value.
Try gimbal2s suggestion and tell us if it changes anything.

    Any help appreciated. Let me first put my code here:
    Converts money using CurrencyConverter, there's another class I haven't posted here!! (which calculates conversion)
    import java.util.* ;
    public class CurrencyConverterTester
      public static void main(String[] args)
        Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in) ;
        System.out.println("How many euros is one dollar?") ;
        String input = in.nextLine() ;
        double rate = Double.parseDouble(input) ;
        CurrencyConverter myconverter = new CurrencyConverter(rate);
        System.out.println("Dollar value (Q to quit)") ;
        input = in.nextLine() ;
        while (true) {
          if (input == "Q"){
            System.exit(0);
            break;}
          else {
          System.out.println(input + " dollar = " +  myconverter.convert(Double.parseDouble(input)) + " euros");
          input = in.nextLine();
          continue;}
    }The issue is that the program won't terminate when I enter Q as my input?? I'm guessing it might have something to do my conversion from string to double in the 'else' statement, but not sure. Also, if you can suggest a more simpler method for the last 'while' statement, that would be helpful as well. Thanks. (noob to java)

    Seriously, yep, maybe it would have been better for noobs if the syntax of Java Strings was consistent with other kinds of Object... or maybe it would have been better if == was compiler-magiced into stringA.equals(stringB)... and the left and right shift operators have promise, and of course that way lies MADNESS, as witnessed in C++ ;-)
    @OP... You are (IMHO) using the break, continue and especially System.exit() inappropriately... see my comments in your code...
        System.out.println("Dollar value (Q to quit)") ;
        input = in.nextLine() ;
        // while-true-loops are a "fairly usual" way of doing this kind of stuff,
        // but that doesn't make them "the preferred option". Typically you would

        // continue statements)... leaping straight to the "tricky approach" means
        // you haven't (most often out of sheer laziness) thought it through... and
        // ALL good computer programs are thoroughly thought through (yep, try
        // saying that three times fast, especially after three beers).
        while (true) {
          // You don't compare Strings using ==
          if ( "Q".equalsIgnoreCase(input) ) {
            // Either of the following statements will do the job. The call to exit
            // will exit the JVM, therfore the break statement cannot be reached,
            // so it is superflous, so it's presence is just a bit confusing. Having
            // said that, "real programmers" don't use System.exe routinely, only in
            // the case of an emergency, such as handling a fatal-error, such as an
            // out-of-memory condition... an even then it's usually indicative of a
            // poor "system design", because it terminates the JVM which is running
            // this program without giving anything else in the program a chance to
            // clean-up after itself... like ask the user if they want to save there
            // work, or whatever.
            // I would use break (if anything) instead of System.exit
            // ... and if I wrote the Java tutorials, exit wouldn't be mentioned at
            // all until both "normal" flow control, and exception handling had both
            // been thoroughly covered.
            System.exit(0);
            break;

  • Error in XMLDiff Bean, System.exit() is being called in setFiles() ?

    When I call the setFiles() method in XMLDiff and the files contain dtd references, my application will shut down competely as though System.exit() is being called from within the XMLDiff bean. I have tested this with the XMLDiff demo and it also shut down when a dtd reference was in the files.

    The version of XDK is 9.2.0.2.0
    The test case is the "family.xml" in the demo\java\parser\common directory using the XMLDiffSample application. What I did was to try to compare the family.xml against itself. When I do that it shuts down the demo application as though System.exit() has been called.
    Setting the standalone="yes" did in fact cause it to work properly, but I am not sure why?

    Hi vinod kumar,
    i hope you need to map source system From QAS to DEV system,
    genereally from DEV to QAS configuration will be there, but here request is moving from QAS to DEV so i think this should be configured.
    RSA1-> Tools -> conversion of logical system names -> maintain original system and target system name for both BI and ECC systems.

    Photoshop Elements 10 Mac Ongoing Install Failure - Exit Code 7
    I downloaded Photoshop Elements 10 for Mac (not trial, with valid serial #)
    Mac OSX 10.7.2, 3.6 GHz Intel Core i5, 16 GB RAM
    I know the install package is valid because I installed it on my backup laptop (same Max OSX version) after I was having problems with my primary desktop and it installed fine. I have followed all the instructions on the install package including "restarting my system and installing again," and the install keeps failing with the same message:

    Suggestions? thanks.

    Issue resolved with the help of Adobe Support (Mercer).  My problem had been seen in another machine, there were empty folders in the Fonts Folder (Hard Drive>Library>Fonts) that the installer could not reconcile or delete, that was hanging up the Installer.
    My fix was to delete the following empty folders from the Fonts Folder:
    AdobeMingStd-Light.otf
    BickhamScriptPro-Regular.otf
    KozMinPro-Regular.otf
    MyriadPro-BoldCond.otf
    TektonPro-BoldCond.otf
    And then re-run the installer (be sure to empty the trash).
    My advice would be to first read the installer log and look for names of font folders that could not be resolved, then dump those.  Another way would be to dump any empty folders in the Fonts Folder, empty the trash, then re-sun the installer.

  • Errors in system.log since leopard upgrade

    I have a mac mini core duo 1.83, with 2gb ram.
    It was running Tiger until I upgraded it to Leopard about October 27th.
    I used the archive and install installation method.
    It has been running fine. The only "glitch" I have noticed is a very occasional
    pause in music playing in iTunes.
    While investigating the cause of that, I realised that the system.log file is very large, and there are many many instances of this error in it.
    Dec 10 15:42:11 macmini Unknown[36394]: Error loading /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOUSBLib.bundle/Co ntents/MacOS/IOUSBLib: dlopen(/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOUSBLib.bu ndle/Contents/MacOS/IOUSBLib, 262): no suitable image found.     Also I see these errors

    Dec 10 15:50:10 macmini postfix/master[67855]: fatal: open lock file pid/master.pid: unable to set exclusive lock: Resource temporarily unavailable

    Dec 10 15:50:11 macmini com.apple.launchd[1] (org.postfix.master): Throttling respawn: Will start in 9 seconds
    Am I likely to see any problems other than the large log files?

    Large log files are potential problems. The larger they get the greater the probability they will become corrupted. You should use some software to clear out the logs regularly by running the built-in Unix scripts. See my maintenance FAQ for helpful suggestions:
    Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
    For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.0 is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation. TechTool Pro 4.5.2 is Intel Mac compatible; Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided. The current version, 1.5.1, is Intel Mac compatible.
    OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.
    OS X automatically defrags files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
    I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc.
    For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline.
    When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
    Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
    2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    5. PsynchX 2.1.1 and RsyncX 2.1 (Freeware)
    6. Carbon Copy Cloner (Freeware - 3.0 is a Universal Binary)
    7. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
    The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
    1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
    2. Toast
    3. Impression
    4. arRSync
    Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
    Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.
    Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
    Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.
    Referenced software can be found at www.versiontracker.com and www.macupdate.com.
    I'm only supposing, here, but I think your log errors are generated by left over elements of Tiger not removed when you installed Leopard. This is always a potential problem with upgrade installs and Archive and Install when moving to a new major OS version. I generally recommend doing an Erase and Install.

  • Java 1.5_09 vs Java 1.4.2_11 and System.exit

    The java program tries to access a url, if cannot it returns 129
    * <pre>
    * 0 - Successful connection
    * 129 - Network connection failure, or no connection.
    * 130 - Connected to server, but received HTTP error.
    * </pre>
    Here is the code snippet
    status = status == -1? 129 : 130;
    System.exit(status);
    if I compile the class under 1.4.2_11 I get back 129. If I compile the class under 1.5_09 I get back -107374189
    This causes my bat file errorlevel check to fail. Any ideas ?

    Hello nudli and Welcome to Apple Discussions ..
    In laymans terms, Java SE consists of a virtual machine, which must be used to run Java programs, together with a set of libraries (or packages) needed to allow the use of file systems, networks, graphical interfaces, and so on, from within those programs. Java works quietly in the background.
    First, run the Software Updater to see if you have all available updates. Click the Apple logo top left in your Desktop then click Software Update ... the update window will open and populate a list of updates you might need. Just follow the instructions to install them. If the Software Updater didn't find any needed Java files, then you are up to date. Most times after an install you need to Restart. AND, it's always good to run Disk Utility located here: Applications/Disk Utilities and Repair Disk Permissions every time you update software on your Mac.
    Go to this link to see minimum requirements needed to upgrade to Leopard 10.5:

  • BAPI_GOODSMVT_CREATE ERROR: A System Error Has Occurred While Locking

    Hi All,
    I am having a problem with a Z program that I am writing.
    Basically, it uses the BAPI mentioned in the title. The program will read excel file that is being uploaded, and then will segregate the line items by 200 lines.
    That means, if I were to upload 1000 line items, the BAPI will be called and executed 5 times (1000/200 = 5).
    However, when trying to upload 10000 line items, I received this error after around 3000 line items.
    "A system error has occurred while locking".
    This happens when IMPORT parameter TEST_RUN is set to 'X'.
    I found this after some googling: http://sap.ittoolbox.com/groups/technical-functional/sap-basis/lock-entry-system-error-1674434
    I am hoping for your expert thoughts on this.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    Was the system copied from another system? Or is this a new installation?
    If yes, did you run SE06 after the installation?
    What is the results of trans.log (generated from R3trans -d)?
    Also paste the contents of table TADIR in SE16.

  • The ABAP call stack was: SYSTEM-EXIT of program BBPGLOBAL

    Hi
    We are using SRM 5.0. We are facing a strange problem. We are able to see the initial screen of SRM EBP in the browser. But once the user name and password are provided the system goes for a dump with the following error:
    The following error text was processed in the system SS0 : System error
    The error occurred on the application server <Server Name> and in the work process 0 .
    The termination type was: ABORT_MESSAGE_STATE
    The ABAP call stack was: SYSTEM-EXIT of program BBPGLOBAL
    <b>SM21 Log:</b>
    Short Text
         Transaction Canceled &9&9&5 ( &a &b &c &d &e &f &g &h &i )
         The transaction has been terminated.  This may be caused by a
         termination message from the application (MESSAGE Axxx) or by an error
         detected by the SAP System due to which it makes no sense to proceed
         with the transaction.  The actual reason for the termination is
         indicated by the T100 message and the parameters.
    Transaction Canceled ITS_P 001 ( )
    Message Id: ITS_P
    Message No: 001
    I just checked these threads but did not help much,
    RABAX_STATE  error after loggin into BBPSTART service in SRM 4.
    ITS_TEMPLATE_NOT_FOUND error
    Besides I tried this note: 790727 as well, still I get the same error.
    Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
    <u>Please do the following steps.</u>
    <b>When you are using the Internal ITS,you need not run the report W3_PUBLISH_SERVICES.(only SIAC_PUBLISH_ALL_INT )
    ALso pls check the foll:
    -->activate the services through SICF tcode.
    > Go to SICF transaction and activate the whole tree under the node Default host>sap>bc>gui>sap>its.
    >Also maintain the settings in SE80>utilities>settings>internet transaction server-->test service/Publish. (BBPSTART , BBPGLOBAL etc)
    Table TWPURLSVR should have entries for the / SRM server line as well as gui and web server.
    Could you please review again the following steps ?
    Did you check that ICM was working correctly (Transaction -  SMICM) ?
    1-Activate the necessary ICF services
    With transaction SICF and locate the
    services by path
    /sap/public/bc/its/mimes
    /sap/bc/gui/sap/its/webgui
    2- Publish the IAC Services
    With Transaction SE80 locate from
    the menu Utilities -> Settings ->
    Internet Transaction Server (Tab) ->
    Publish (Tab) and set “On Selected
    Site” = INTERNAL.
    3- Locate the Internet Services SYSTEM and WEBGUI.
    Publish these services with the Context
    Menu -> Publish -> Complete Service
    4- Browse to http://<server>:<icmport>/sap/bc/gui/
    sap/its/webgui/! and login to the
    webgui.</b>
    Hope this will help.
    Please reward suitable points.
    Regards
    - Atul

  • Is System.exit() a good call to use?

    I have a program that checks for updates in the db. If there are no updates in the database I want the program to stop. There are also many other conditions that would cause the program to stop. None of them are "Errors" so I wasn't using Exceptions to end the program The program runs from a command line or from chron job. Is it safe / OK to use System.exit() to do this?

    As you describe it, I'd say yes. System.exit() is the way to end your program.
    The danger of System.exit() is if a class you write will be reused in some other system. In that case, System.exit() could be entirely inappropriate in that context, thus preventing your class from being reusable.
    If you only call System.exit() in your main() method, you'll probably be OK.
