Mac HD Volume no longer visible in Windows

Haven't done anything significant to change anything on either partition, just randomly today booted into Windows 7 and it can't see my Macintosh HD partition.
This wouldn't be a problem if I could hand the Windows partition files from the OSX side, but that's never been possible as far as I can tell.
Slightly unrelated (maybe), but also kind of weird are two things:
my start-up/sign-in screen in OSX has completely changed...it used to be the icons against a dark grey mesh background, and when I chose my account the icon and field would slide to the center and once I input the password, it would start up.  Now they're much larger against a blank grey background and the password input field is highlighted in blue and has a weird icon.  Additionally, my computer now asks for the system password whenever I wake it from sleep.  It never did before and I haven't changed any settings at all.
Anyone have any idea what could be going on, for either of these?  Any help would be appreciated.
Running Lion on a late-2011 MBP.

Figured out the login screen issue - FileVault had somehow turned itself on.
Boot Camp still doesn't show the Mac volume.

    Hi
You need to remove the upper and lower filters from registry key.
First of all remove the CD/DVD drive from the device manager.
Then go to registry and remove upper and lower filter from this key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    After that reboot the notebook.

  • Mac Volume/Parition not visible in Windows XP

I'm getting a weird issue and apparently no one else have got this before (have been gone through all the forum).
The issue is that I don't see the Mac OS-X HFS+ volume/partition in Windows XP Professional (using the Bootcamp). I first installed the Bootcamp 3.0 drivers for Windows, and after not seeing the HFS+ partition, even upgraded to Bootcamp 3.1, but still can't see that drive. My understanding is that it should be visible in the Explorer with other drives, right?
BTW, I tried using the HSF Explorer utility and I can see the Mac Partition using that, but I don't like it much as have to extract the files to actually use them. But it confirms the partition is there and is accessible too.
I can even see the HFS driver files in my windows folder "WINDOWS\system32\drivers" (AppleHFS.sys, AppleMNT.sys, etc).
Any body can help me how to use these drivers to manually mount that drive or how to automate that?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards, Akbar

  • Mac OS drives no longer visible, can only boot windows.

I have 4 internal drives and 1 external drive on my Mac Pro. Three drives are Mac OS, on internal drive is XP, and one is Win 7. At the moment I can only boot from the Windows drives. The Mac drives are not visible from boot camp or at startup holding the option button down. I know the cause, but I dont know how to fix it.
I caused the problem while booted into Win 7. I was trying to install VS2010 beta 2. The program failed to install, and I found out the problem was that the installer was trying to access the Mac disks. I removed the drive numbers from the 3 Mac disks, and the installation worked. After I relettered the disks I was able to see them from Win 7 (not XP).
I assume I somehow messed up bootcamp. I have no idea of how to fix this. I would appreciate any help.

    We have a BootCamp forum.
Do any of the drives show up in Disk Utility?
Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Repair reports and if DU was able to repair them. This could just be a start in repairs and you may need a better utility to finish the job.

  • Ext hard drive no longer visible in Windows XP via Airport Extreme

    Hey everyone,
I am running a Windows XP Pro machine in my network. I have a LaCie 500gb ext USB drive plugged into my Airport Extreme. It is formatted in Mac OS Extended. It has always shown up with my other drives on my PC under the "My Computer" window. Now it has disappeared out of nowhere. Nothing was installed/changed. I host files on that drive that I access from my Windows machine and I cannot for the life of me get it to show up again. I understrand that Windows doesn't read Mac OS Extended... If I plug the drive into my PC directly it does not show up. But for some reason it has always worked through the Airport until now... Was it just dumb luck until this point?
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

HDDs, formatted in Mac OS Extended, are shared out using the SMB/CIFS file sharing protocol to Windows or Linux-based network clients. As you know this format is not readable when connected directly to a Windows PC.
SMB/CIFS is the common sharing format used by Windows to access any network drive so that shouldn't be the issue. Have you tried mounting/mapping the drive on the PC? Please check out the following Apple Support article for details.

  • Satellite P100-347 - DVD Drive no longer visible in Windows XP MCE

Hi. My DVD drives seems to have disapeared from within Windows MCE running on my P100-347. BIOS can see it, it opens and closes with no issues and the light comes on as if the disc is being read yet it's not being seen by Windows as a drive.
I've installed the DVD-RAM drivers from the Toshiba website but this hasnt made one bit of difference. Any suggestions?

    Hi. Thanks for the reply.
Thats the thing. There is no error message or device in device manager relating to the CD / DVD drive. It's not even there as D: drive.
I've tried the knowledge base article and still the problem remains. Does anyone know the product code of the DVD drive that comes with the P100-347? Perhaps I can find a driver for it based on this.
    Edit:
Have found the following in the Event Log :
20 May 2007 PlugPlayMa nager The device 'HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4082N' (IDE\CdRomHL-DT-ST_DVDRAM_GMA- 4082N_______________PT06____\3 04d363050393534353520332020202 020202020) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal.
    Investigations continue....

  • Client no longer visible in Remote Desktop

For years I've controlled my Mac Mini from my MacBook over my home Wifi, but all of a sudden it's stopped working. The client (Mac Mini) is no longer visible in "Scanner", and will not connect via IP address 192.168.0.3
I've confirmed both computers are definitely on the same WiFi network, sharing options are turned on in Mac Mini's sharing preferences. I've deleted ARD prefs file from the client, I've restarted both machines.
Client is also not controllable from the VNC apps I have on my iPhone and iPad - so I think it's a client issue rather than the MacBook running ARD.
Any advice of things I can check? I've also just noticed that (despite being switched on) the Mac Mini is not visible for File Sharing. So there's definitely something fishy going on with that Mac Mini's network settings.

****. Seems I didn't try rebooting the wifi router. It's showing now. **** cheap netgear rubbish...

  • My iPhone 5 is no longer visible to my PC via Windows Explorer

My iPhone 5 (running iOS 8.02) is no longer visible to my PC (running Windows 7) via Windows Explorer. In the past, I have been able to see the phone listed as a Device in Windows Explorer when connected via USB cable, and could navigate to the DCIM folder to see and copy photos just like any other hard driver.
Since installing iOS 8.02, the phone no longer appears in Windows Explorer.
If this is no longer possible, how can I transfer photos from iPhone to PC?  I have tried clicking around in iTunes, but can't find any relevant functionality there, either - am I missing something?

You're welcome.  There are many blurred lines with respect to iOS 8 photo management -- i.e. is the photo actually on the device, or only in iCloud?  If it is in iCloud only, and you put it into an album on the iPhone, does it get downloaded to the device and is it still full resolution?
Part of the problem may be that there are still some unfinished things with respect to photos.  The "iCloud Photo Library" feature seen in pre-iOS 8 release is still in beta form, so whenever that gets full release there could be some sense in all this.  There's also the pending replacement of iPhoto and Aperture on the Mac platform, slated to be replaced by a new "Photo" app, so that may play into the big picture on photo management.
But for the time being, I don't feel that the changes to photo management in iOS 8/ iCloud have been for the better.  I can only hope that we get a more elegant photo management process with these pending changes.

  • Mac partition (hfs+) not visible in Windows after upgrade to Yosemite

    Hi,
I'm using a MacBook Pro with two partitions, Windows 8.1 (Bootcamp) en Mac OS X. I upgraded Mac OS from 10.9 to 10.10 (Yosemite) recently.
After upgrading, the Mac partition in Windows is no longer visible. I need it to be visible, as I have files on that partition which I need to access in Windows.
I've checked the format of the Mac partition, which is HSF+. I have installed the latest Bootcamp driver (5.1.5621).
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

  • Shared external hard no longer visible to other mac running 10.4

Running 10.4 on iMac G5 and connecting to mac mini running 10.6. The mac mini has a firewire connected drive that I used to mount from my iMac. Suddenly, as of a few days ago, I can no longer mount the volume. When I double click my short-cut, it prompts me for my ID & password, and then tell me "Mount failed - Could not mount volume “drive-name.”
From a Finder window I click on Network and see my mac mini listed but when I click to connect and enter my credentials (administrator on both machines) I see the mount points on the internal hard drive but external drive is no longer listed. I've tried repairing permissions on both Mac's but still not working. Any suggestions?
I found a similar post (https://discussions.apple.com/message/10136761?messageID=10136761) but it never listed a solution. Please help!
PS - I can still access the shared external drive from a Macbook Pro running 10.6.

    Well BDAqua,
I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that your suggestions seemed on the right track buy neither worked. On the Mac Mini, /volumes only contained two items, one for my internal hard drive and one for the external hard drive. The iMac showed only its internal drive. there were no duplicate entries with numbers appended to the names. I looked under my home directory/Library/Favorites and deleted everything in there (for both Macs). Rebooted both machines and still could not see the external drive.
The good new is that it's working now! I don't quite understand why, but here is what I did. On the iMac OS X 10.4) I opened a Finder window, looked under Networks, and saw four items listed; Library, Mac mini, Mac-Mini, and Servers. I had two entries for my Mac Mini. The first entry (Mac mini) was correct. When I tried connecting to Mac-Mini, it came up as a SMB/CIFS connection showing WORKGROUP and my ID. When I entered my password, I got the message ... The alias "Mac-Mini" could not be opened because the original item could not be found. It then offered me the choices to fix or delete. When I tried to delete, I got ... The operation could not be completed because you do not have sufficient privilages for "Mac-Mini". Hmmm.
I then enable my root account on the iMac, logged into it, and tried the same operation. This time it allowed me to delete the bogus entry for Mac-Mini. Then I then connected to the Mac mini and, lo and behold, my external drive was back! I logged into my other accounts and they all still have the bogus Mac-Mini entry but the shortcuts to the external drive are working.
I gave this long winded explanation hoping that you or someone else might UNDERSTAND what happened. I would also like to figure out how to delete the bogus Mac-Mini entries in the other accounts. Thanks for all your help!

  • Windows 7 Boot fails on Mac Pro 1,1 (long-standing issue)

i am having a long-standing problem on my first generation (1,1) mac pro where i have an installation of Windows 7 "under" boot camp. this installation involved some kind of minor mac hack that involved writing something to ISO and/or a CD Rom and then getting the installation onto my hard drive.
right now i am not sure if i should get rid of my tech guy, buy the new mac pro as soon as it comes out, boot into safe mode, re-install windows 7 or all of the above. help please?
lately if i try and Option Boot into this volume i get a Windows closed down incorrectly error and then i hit start windows normally it will crash out and restart the computer in mac OS (i.e. in another option boot volume).
at one point the windows 7 boot was not working at all and we discovered that i had to TURN OFF my G-Tech 3 TB backup drive in order to get the Mac to boot into Windows.
i am wondering if i should focus my energies by trying to boot into Safe Mode (and if so what to do if/when i get there) but also whether this appears to be an issue with the Mac Pro, the G-Tech external, Windows or some combination of all plus some user error thrown in for good measure.
i absolutely need to have a volume of windows 7 running and this is a long-standing issue at this point.
i am also running a Carbon Copy Cloner of this volume (the one that has all my OS's) on a daily basis to another internal hard drive (which i assume does not matter but i figure to mention it).
any ideas on what to do??
i am planning at some point to buy the next release of the Mac Pro so i can upgrade the desktop to Mountain Lion to match the laptop but it seems like i should be able to get this working on my end now...
    TIA
P.S. I /am/ also noticing that my User Photo periodically drops off and i just see two blank icons (one for me and one for Guest) when i have to login. i set it to a photo and then a week or two or a boot or two later it will disappear.

    hi all,
a report back after hacking my way through siberia over here:
turns out there are bad sectors on my drive that some third party program discovered.
the disk is on it's way back to WD with a replacement in the works.
fortunately my internal cloned backup got me back up to speed with mac os but unfortunately i was not yet setup to clone my windows boot camp backup so i will be installing windows 7 boot camp one more time on this drive...

  • My PC is no longer visible by my mac

my PC is no longer visible by my mac on the home network i created sometime ago. I did change some power settings on my PC but I do not see how this would effect network connection.
It shows that my PC is online, also my Mac is as well. How ever my Mac prompts that it can not find it.

Nope. That's the solution for iPods that appear on the Finder, but not in iTunes. I hope I get some other suggestions, but in the mean time I'm looking into restoring my iPod and buying a firewire cable from Apple, since the website says to use the one that came with the iPod (which I lost).
(EDIT) Nevermind... seems I can't restore or update if the iPod isn't recognized.
