Mac laptop not printing to network printer

For lack of an explanation on the other posts, i will try one...
i have a mac laptop, and my husband just got a new computer with vista. he "thought" he set up the network to allow me to print from the printer that is hooked to the desktop. but he didnt. and now we cant figure it out. the printer is already installed on the mac and the desktop (i did hook up the printer to the laptop and it does print seamlessly), but it says the printer is offline on the laptop and wont print. from what i can figure out is the mac is thinking the printer is manually hooked to it and not over the network. so how do i make the mac look over the network. we use a network for internet and it works great.

the desk top is using vista. and the printer sharing is on on the desktop. the desktop is connected to the printer by usb. it has something to do with the mac thinking the printer is hooked to the laptop and not on a network. i cant get it to look on the network for the printer.

It sounds like a problem with the domain name server. Be sure you are using the correct DNS in System Preferences > Network, and if you are make sure it is functioning correctly.

PDF files created in Acrobat Pro X for Mac will not print correctly on Windows - text is missing

I recently created a PDF file with pictures and texts in Acrobat Pro X. However, when I send it to my coworkers (who work on Windows computers), the printed file contains only images, and no text. I am using Century Gothic - a font that is installed on these Windows computers. When they open the files, they can see the text and everything exactly as it is meant to be. However, upon printing, the text disappears completely.
We are using a Konica Minolta Bizhub printer to complete these printouts. When I print from my computer (the Mac), the files print perfectly on this printer. However, when using the same printer, a Windows user cannot print the text in the PDF's.
Has anyone else run across this problem? I am thinking of trying to embed fonts, however it doesn't seem like it would make much of a difference (since the fonts show up fine on a Windows computer anyways). Is there a known issue with printing PDF's on a Konica Minolta printer?

The archive format you used embeds all fonts, as does Press and Print type job settings. The standard job settings does not embed all fonts and that might be where the problem was.

Adobe Acrobat Pro X 10.1.7 (Mac) does not print correctly.

I have a Mac Pro (Model 1.1) with Adobe Acrobat X 10.1.7. When an item is scanned, it appears correctly on the screen, but it does not print correctly. I am sending along screenshots of what a scanned item looks like on the screen and then what prints.

Thanks Michael, have tried that, no luck. I will wait a couple of days to see if any other solutions come up (or if anyone else is suddenly having the same issue) before reinstalling Acrobat.
[OK just tried sending a PDF attachment directly from another program (MYOB) through to Mac Mail and had the same problem so it is not an Acrobat issue afterall, it is a Mac Mail or Mac OS X issue. Will post this on the Apple site.]
I have resolved the MYOB issue, it was working just painfully slow. So I still have the original Acrobat Pro PDF to Mac Mail issue if anyone knows of any solutions please?

No idea what you mean by 'Safari Adobe'. Safari is a web browser, Adobe are software application developers.

When troubleshooting we look to see if the problem is local or global. Again, you may very well know this so apologies. Anyway, if you haven't already, then please create another account on your Mac. You should do this anyway, actually everybody should. (The Tim knows). So test to see if the problem exists in the other account as well. I name the extra account maint and make it an admin account. If you find that it prints normally with the maint account, that is good, because it just means that one or more of your local account preferences are munged in the primary account. Global on the other hand is a bit more work to solve. If that's the case you can try reinstalling the operating system. In most cases that will overwrite the low level culprit and put you back in the sweet zone. Let me know how it goes, it's an interesting problem. I like those. Especially when they aren't mine. ;-)
I have been supporting Ma cs for a very very long time. If IICX rings a bell. Anyway, just reinstalling the OS over the top is pretty quick. However, we techs like to find the little sucker that's causing the problem and we can spend many hours scouring to locate it. It's a challenge to us not to let the computer get the better of us. Win. But the reality of it is often a simple OS reinstall will get you back in the game. Beyond that is a hardware problem concern. To me from what you describe it sounds software to me. So don't worry too much about that at this point.

Mac does not print. Help?

I have OS X Mountain Lion, 10.8.2. My computer stopped printing. Neihter USB, nor WiFi, nor Ethernet printing works. Neither on my home office nor with three networked printers in my workplace. When I send a printer order, a print icon appears and disappears immediately, then nothing happens.
It may have happened after I installed the software for my Kodak ESP 2170 in our home office. However, I've browsed the internet for issues happening with this software in a Mac, and found nothing that describes my issue.
I have tried the following:
-Uninstall/reinstall Kodak printer drivers.
-Tried printing at work without the Kodak software in the system.
-Tested the network, WiFi, and ethernet. All in working order.
-Reset the printing system, reinstall drivers. Twice.
Nothing has worked. The Mac support person at work says that the problem is in the system and that it may have to be reinstalled. That seems too much for something that affects a small part of the system. Can anyone recommend something else less dramatic?

Sounds like you are having some issues configuring your printer with your computers. First of all, we are going to completely remove the software from the computer and then we are going to install the software from the installation package on the HP website.

Also, just to eliminate possible network issues / as well as software issues can you try installing the printer using the USB cord as well as an Ethernet cord. This will allow me to diagnose your situation more organically.

First, look in the , System Preferences, Hardware, Print & Fax.
On my Canon color printer, I can do a test page from Options and Supplies, Utility, Test Page , but it is probably highly-dependent on which printer you have as to the exact menus to get to the test page.
A test page will confirm that you're not running out of ink, or have a dried-out color cartridge.
If your test page prints correctly, including all colors, proceed to check actual printer settings with Command-P.
Click the blue 'down' arrow button next to your printer name.
It will reveal lots of additional print options.
For my Canon printer, the 'grayscale' checkbox is under Quality and Media settings, one of a number of drop-down choices from a scroll-bar located mid-page.
It's also possible that it is a setting within whatever application program you're using. Sometimes, it can be a faulty printer cable.
If none of this solves your problem, you'll have to tell us more details about what you're trying to print, from what application program, and on what printer. We absolutely try to be helpful here, but we're not mind-readers!

Installing xMII on Laptop not connected with network

I have installed xmii in my laptop and created some application which i sent permission to a user created by myself.
When i try to unplug the laptop from the network and try to access xMII its directly going into the home page without asking login. I want a specfic user to be logged in and role it displays in the xMII main page as Local Adminstrator not the Role which was there in xMII.

look at the list of Trusted Servers in Security Services. If you log in from any of these, you will automatically be logged in as admin. It doesn't matter if you use the hostname or IP. If you find your IP listed as one of the Trusted Servers, remove it, save, and open a new browser window and try logging in again. You need to start a new browser session - not open another window in an existing session.
If you need to have your machine listed as a trusted server and you don't want to be automatically logged in as admin, then you're out of luck. I've tried using the loopback adapter to get around this; in Windows that won't work either because of the braindead way Microsoft implemented the loopback adapter. Your only recourse is VMware or the like...

My mac mini does not connect to the network. I have DSL modem, connected to an Airport Express. The light on the Airport Express is green, but it just is connecting. I've tried everything but I cannot get it to connect.

Reset the airport not just press the reset button, but hold it down for about 5 seconds.

Firefox opens new windows instead of tabs on my mac laptop not on my PC

Firefox 3.6.8 opens multiple windows instead of new tabs no matter how I select the options in preferences. This happens on my Macbook Pro but not on my Windows PC.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).<br />

You can also try "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults" on the [[Safe mode]] start window.

Thanks for posting. If you upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion, please try these steps:
1) Go into your Applications folder, then the Coupons folder and run the uninstall.
2) Once the uninstall is complete, drag the Coupons folder to the Trash can.
3) Reboot your system.
4) Go back to Coupons and reinstall the Coupon Printer for Mac.
You should be able to print. If not, please reply here.

Mac cant see the wifi network if i dont get close enough which was not an issue before

Hi. I have a macbook pro OSX 10.8.4
At the office my mac can not see our network router if i dont get close enough.
This was not an issue before i could directly connect it at my desk. now when i turn the
computer on i need to take to mac as closest as i can get to the router ( in next room ) wait for connection
and return to my room. and this way i still can get full signal.
and also a windows laptop on my desk and even my iphone can find the router and connect with no problem
at my office.
any ideas ?

Hi! It's been a while but here's the latest update on the case.
(And yeah,I've been struggling until today to find a solution...Danny's personal advice: don't move to Italy if you don't wanna get lost in a Customer Service nightmare...)
Anyhow, it turned out to be as simple as this:
1) Create a location dedicated to the home network.
2) Insert PPPoE user name and password given by ISP.
3) Connect.
4) Browse wirelessly.
...I feel a little dumb overlooking this option....but, I still have some doubts reg the procedure.
Why did I have to create a dedicated location?
Why do I have to use PPPoE rather than DHCP?
