Mac Os X86 does not restart from systemdisk

I am having some problems with my system installation and my disk utilities recommend I take a backup and reinstall the system. Having put in the mac os x86 dvd, pushed the install/restart option on the dvd menu, the system restarts as usual, but when I hold the C button to start the dvd the screen turns black, with a white blinking _ in the top left corner, and everything stops. If I try restarting holding down the "alt" key, the menu shows my mac os x86 dvd as a windows disk, and if I push it, the same black screen as mentioned earlier appears. I have tried reading about this on the net but I not found any identical situations yet.
Please help me, Im sitting her with a super slow macbook 2ghz with 2gb ram.. something is very irritating about that. How can I format and reinstall my system!!

Copying the operating system is ILLEGAL. Please get the original copy. If you lost the original copy that came with your system, call AppleCare to request a replacement copy. Here's the place to call AppleCare http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html
If you got the machine second hand, contact the person you got the machine from and ask them for the original disks. If they don't have them, they need to contact AppleCare and then send them to you. Only the current owner of the machine is legally allowed to have those disks, and only those disks will boot a MacBook except system utility disks which do not have an installable operating system such as Disk Warrior and Techtool Pro.
No one here can help you, as they'd be breaking the law in assisting you to use the copy of the operating system. Please read the terms of use on the right, especially the section:

  • My Mac OS X does not restart while trying to update/install

My Mac OS X does not restart while trying to update/install iTunes. It allows me to click on Restart button, then just the screen saver shows up, waited 10 -15mins and nothing happens.  Had to force shut to try again, same thing happens.

As a test, try opening the PDFs using Preview and see if they will print correctly from that application. If so, then it is likely an Acrobat problem. If they still don't print correctly, it is like a file problem.
You can also try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

  • Mac Pro display does not recover from sleep

    Hello,
I have a Mac Pro Mid 2010 with two graphics cards (ATI 5770 & nVidia Geoforce GT 120) and three displays.  After intense use of the GPUs with graphics processing jobs, and after the screen goers to sleep, they do not recover.  The computer is accessible via the network (ping, ssh, etc) however, the screens blank out and no longer recover from sleep.  The only resolution is to reboot.
I have already run memtest all just to make sure there isn't a memory issue.  All tests passed.  Also, this issue has ocurred with Mountain Lion and Mavericks.
Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences with regard to this iussue?
    Thanks

Update -- I now can reproduce the issue at will and it is definitely related to the sleep feature and has gotten much worse under OS X Mavericks.  Side Rant -- First let me note how disappointing Mavericks is as a platform.  Apple's output seems to be getting progressively less thought out, reliable and buggy.
Now back to the issue.  I created a hot corner that puts my display to sleep.  Every time I active the hot corner the system display is lost -- that is the system continues to function and respond via network (ping, ssh, etc) but no joy on un-sleeping the displays.
    I have Mac Pro Mid 2010 w/ 2x 2.4Ghz Quad Core, 32GB RAM, ATI 5770 and NVidia Geoforce GT 120 using three displays (2x 27" Apple and 1x Panasonic 1080P HD TV) running OS X 10.9.1 (13B42).

  • Mac Book Pro does not restart

When I try to restart my mac book pro, it doesn't restart. It will shut down and bring up the grey screen, but will just hang on the grey screen. I then have to power down the computer and then power it on again. I called Apple Care and they had me repair permissions on the Hard Drive, and verify the permissions. We trashed the cache folder from the library. We restarted and the same thing happened? The apple care said I would have to an archive and install from the original disks, this seems to me to be overkill. Does anyone have any experience with this problem?
    Cheers

I just found this link, seems to be working for me, for now. It will delete all of your login items to remember what they are so you can populate the list again..

    That will not work!
You cannot copy or migrate Adobe applications from computer to computer. There are a whole host of files in different locations which have to be installed, and copying will not do it.
In fact, you'll now have to use the Adobe Cleaner tool to remove the mess you created. You can get to it here:

  • Mac Pro will not restart from dropdown menu

    Hi all,
My Mac Pro will not restart from the dropdown menu or when clicking the 'restart computer' when installing software updates. I have an external firewire hard drive hooked up as part of my backup process. It contains a clone of my startup disk.
I have tried disconnecting the firewire drive, rebooting then attempting to restart from the dropdown menu. Still no joy. I always have to end up shutting down manually by holding the power button in and then restarting with the power button.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.
    Dennis

You might try Safe Mode (It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)
If your Shutdown functions correctly that way, go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items, and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving ~(yourHome)/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
EDIT: Also, if you can launch Activity Monitor in your Utilities folder and see if you can find the process that is still running.

  • I have a MacPro with 10.7.2 installed. I want to create a new partition and install 10.5. When I put in the install DVD and restart the computer, it does not restart. What can I do?

I just purchased a  MacPro with 10.7.2 installed. I want to install 10.5 on a separate partition.
I created the partition with no issues, now when I put in the 10.5 install DVD and restart the computer, it does not restart.
All I get is a grey screen. no icons, no nothing. I have to shut the computer down.
I really need to do this. I plan on upgrading to FCP X, but I still need to finish some old projects that were done with FCP 7. I need the different boot drives

    Mac Pro - Mid 2010
    Processor  2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74)
This is a brand new machine that I just purchased from Apple. It was delivered yesterday
The old computer is an old PowerMac G5, but my OS X install disc is a retail version of 10.5.
I also tried the OS X 10.5 install disc that came with my MacBook Pro (2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Dual).
Same issue - nothing but a grey screen when the system tries to boot from the DVD

  • 10.9.1 installs, then system turns off and does not restart.

10.9.1 installs, then system turns off and does not restart. When I eventually turn it back on, it installs again, then turns off.. Endless Cycle.. I have booted to restore disk, found errors that needed to be repaired and tried to repair them but system told me, after a few minutes, its not possible to repair. When I restart back to main disk, it shows the install AGAIN and then turns off.  Much appreciate any Ideas?

All I can tell you is that:
Antivirus software, aside from being next to useless on Macs, is a common source of problems with Mavericks.
Google Drive was incompatible with Mavericks last time I looked.
WD hard drives have software that comes on the drives that is incompatible with Mavericks, software that comes with the drives that they want you to install on your mac which is incompatible with Mavericks, and in some cases firmware in the hardware of the drive enclosure itself which is incompatible with Mavericks. And all of this software is completely unnecessary. The good folks at WD have really worked hard to ensure that their products won't work with Mavericks. Bless their little pointy corporate heads. I'll bet that's the last WD drive you'll buy.
Basically you would need to get all this stuff uninstalled from your hard drive before it will reliably work with Mavericks. But even then, it might not work, because old/bad/incompatible software can alter your OS and the kernel such that uninstalling it won't help- the OS/kernel may be damaged such that you have no alternatives other than to erase the HD and start over. And anyway, currently you can't boot your HD to be able to access the Finder so unless you're going to spend a weekend with the Terminal you won't be able to uninstall that stuff in the first place. If I were you I'd just go ahead and erase the HD and install Mavericks from scratch.
10.9.1 doesn't come on a CD. If you had another (working) mac you could make a bootable installer flash drive with DiskMaker X and an 8 GB key drive DiskMaker X (formerly Lion DiskMaker) , but then you'd still have the same problem, the incompatible software would still be on your HD, unless you erase it first before you try installing Mavericks again. So there's really nothing to gain by having the Mavericks installer on a disk.
If you have a third party utility like Techtool Pro 7 you might be able to boot from the TechTool disk and repair your HD enough for it to boot.

  • My Mac Book pro does not recognise the wi-fi net. How to fix it?

My Mac Book Pro does not recognise properly the Wi-Fi net at home. I've tried many ways in "preferences", but it realy does not work. When connected in the Ethernet port, it works perfectly.
Don't have any problems with other computers at home.

I don't know what you mean by "doing new concessions on DHCP"!!???  Have you tried using a static IP address to see if it works that way?  Have you restricted the range of DHCP addresses available at your router?  If you have maybe the other computers have used up the available range.  Suggest you try a static IP address first, then we'll take it from there.

  • Finder & Dock do not work - Mac Hard Drive does not appear on Desktop

Until yesterday, my powerbook was working properly.
This morning, I wanted to use it and I had the following problems after login.
1/ My Mac Hard drive does not appear on my dekstop
2/ My dock appears but no icon works when I click on them. So, I can't open finder. I have no response.
3/ Furthermore, my top bar (with clock, login name, Airport icon...) appears but it is frozed.
I try several solutions as :
    - rebooting in safe mode,
    - rebooting, with in the same time, hold different keys (option, apple, p & R)...
As of today, no solution works.
    Thanks for your help.

Ok, that's good enough. You may be able to repair this with the 10.5.8 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
    EDIT:
I have around 5 Go space left on my Mac
Also, your getting very low on disk space. Try to copy some of the data off to other media. *Do it before you try applying the combo, you'll need the space.*

In 5s, personal hot spot does not work from time to time. Iphone does not get detected on Wi-fi or bluetooth. Restarting or rebooting does not help.

Settings, general, reset and reset network settings. Clear out your network settings and set personal hotspot again.
also avoid special characters making a password. hashtags or open brackets for example doesn't work too good.

  • TS4080 apple thunderbolt display image on display intermittently goes dark, does not wake from sleep after clicking mouse or keyboard, but there is "bonk" sound after clicking mouse or pressing keys. Rebooting by pressing the power button resolves issue.

My apple thunderbolt display (which I purchased 1.5 years ago; OS 10.7.5 Mac Mini) intermittently goes dark, does not wake from sleep after clicking mouse or keyboard, but there is "bonk" sound after clicking mouse or pressing keys, so am thinking it is a hardware problem with the display. Rebooting by pressing the power button turns the screen back on, but the same phenomenon has occurred several times. Could this be a software issue, or do I need to have my display repaired? Your feedback would be appreciated.

Hi ED, tough to tell, but it does sound like it's waking with the bonk, just not displaying.
    Long shot but...
I wonder if it's a variation of this, of which I've seen many different symptoms...
    Resolution
Move the mouse or trackpad cursor over the center area of the login window so you can see the user icons. Click on the icon of the user that you would like to login as, type in the user's password, and press Return.
If the login window is configured to show only the name and password fields, type in the user's name and password into the fields, and press Return (even if you cannot see the rest of the login window).
    Additional Information
This issue will not occur if the display is not sleeping when the account is logged out. Use the steps below to confirm that the account is not configured to log out automatically while the display is sleeping:
        1.    Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General.  Click the padlock to unlock the preference pane and enter your admin password. Click the Advanced button at the bottom, then see if the option "Log out after N minutes of inactivity" (where N is the number of minutes) is enabled.
        2.    Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and configure Display Sleep to occur after the account is logged out, by dragging the slider to a number of minutes that is greater than N was set to in the previous step.
Important: If automatic log out is not needed, disable "Log out after Nminutes of inactivity" in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. This will also prevent the issue.

  • Deleting iphone email does not delete from computer

I am sure I must be missing something simple here....When I delete email from my iphone, it does not delete from my computer (either remotely or by syncing). So when I delete a bunch of emails, the very next time I open iphone email, it retrieves the very same emails just deleted....a viscious cycle. Can anyone assist with what must be a simple setting issue? Thank you.

    Nathan C:
    Thank you for your help.
When .Mac is configured using the .Mac option on the
iPhone it is always configured as IMAP. For that
account, on your computer are you checking the
messages via POP3, and on your computer, which
program are you using to check those messages?
.MAC Account - Home Computer: Under Mail/Preferences/Accounts it lists the Comcast account (from our ISP) as a POP and the .Mac account as ".Mac". I access mail thru Mac Mail Application and sometimes thru .mac thru the internet. Update on this account- I cleared the inbox and tried another test. Now it seems to be working. I delete a message from iphone and it will automatically delete from my home computer Mail App. and eventually it will be deleted from the .mac server when accessed thru the internet (these take much longer however). In any event it seem this account works now.
    Work Account:
As for your work account, when looking at the
settings, it should say POP3, IMAP and Exchange at
the top. The button that is "pushed" is the one that
account is using. The outgoing server should
probably be smtp.comcast.net not smpt. Is that
account using IMAP, POP3, or Exchange?
I know these three options were there when the IT person set it up but now when I access this account in my iphone it does not tell me what was selected (IMAP,POP, or Exchange) under account information??? It seems to appear only when setting up a new account. Am I missing something?
Also that was a typo. Outgoing server is listed as "smtp.comcast.net"
So to give you as much info as I have:
Incoming Mail Server is "Mail.(officeservername).com" and Outgoing is "smtp.comcast.net". (Using my Comcast ISP was the only way the IT person could get the email access from Iphone to work). And to calrify what is happening on the iphone:
1.Email is accessed no problem from iphone, - downloading all new message from my work outlook works fine.
2.When I delete messages on my iphone, however, it does not delete on my office computer which is on a server network. (Visa Versa does work - when I delete a message on my computer it will delete it on my iphone.
3.NOTE : Contrary to what I posted earlier my iphone now is NOT "RELOADING" messages just deleted from Iphone but which remain on my office computer. This means half the problem is solved.
    4. THE ONLY THING LEFT TO FIGURE OUT IS HOW DO I CONFIGURE SO WHEN I DELETE A MESSAGE ON MY IPHONE I AM DELETING ALSO FROM MY Computer at work?
(BTW in the above description I am referring to all wireless operation...not when syncing with iphone)
Any final helpful thoughts? Thanks again.
