Mac Slow-any way to clean it up?

Hi All,
Lately I've realized my mac is running VERY slow. I'm wondering if there is some way to clean it up? I'm not sure if I have a virus either. I'd just like to get rid of all the unnecessary files on my mac. Is there something like a disk clean up?

This popup is not a normal behavior and I can´t see if it comes from apple.
The is no  hint on apple.com that its save and a wanted behavior.

  • Is there any way to clean the CD/DVD drive?

Is there any way that you can clean the CD/DVD drive?

You can try and clean then the CD/DVD read/write laser lenses by purchasing  a commercially available, retail Dry Brush CD/DVD lens cleaning system disc.

  • Any way to clean up all the monitor activities ?

Login in APEX Admin, under Monitor Activity page, I can view all kinds of report and activity. Those pages have a link that I can download those reports to CVS file. So I can archive those activities in flat file rather than storing in the database.
Okay...my question is: Is there any way to purge ALL the activity log ? I want to free some tablespace space since Oracle XE has limitation on the tablespace size.

    Hello,
The activity reports you are talking about are based on a built-in view called APEX_ACTIVITY_LOG -
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14373_01/appdev.32/e11838/advnc.htm#CHDDHGJI . As far as I know you don’t have any control on how this view is working, and you can’t purge its data from within APEX. However, APEX is doing it for you, periodically, although I don’t know the exact time frame.
    Regards,
    Arie.

  • Mid-2010 Mac Mini: Any way to convert Firewire connection?

My USB ports are crowded but I have no use for the Firewire port.
Is there any way to repurpose the Firewire connection? Adapters, cables, connectors, cards?
It would be handy if it could be converted into a USB port.

They are different specifications with different features & requirements.
See this for a discussion on a similar topic…

I don't believe that they can be converted.
Get a USB hub and/ or consider getting a Firewire case to install your disks into. Firewire can be 'daisy chained' so a single port can have many devices attached to it.

  • Any way to clean all the stuff off my iphone?

My apps aren't synching right and at this point I just want to "wipe" the iphone and then try resynching. Is there any way to do this? I don't care if it takes out all of my contacts and songs.

    Hey purly,
You can restore the iPhone and set it up as a new phone.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305744
You can also delete the apps from iTunes if you want. iPhone apps can be downloaded again for free.
Also, you can zero out all the data on the iPhone by going to Settings> General> Reset> Erase All Content and Settings> Erase iPhone.

  • Cannot download files from web sites using 4.0, and slower. Do I need to prep my Mac in any way prior to installing 4.0?

I use browser to grab small game programs off various websites, which then run on apps I have installed. When I attempt to download these files in version 4, I get an "unknown error has occurred" pop-up, & no file. This has not been an issue w/previous version.
Am I required to change any system prefs after installing 4.0? I have de-installed and gone back to previous system until I know what the issue is... odd, all other upgrade installs have been easy and simple.
    4.0 also runs notably slower.
    thx/ASAubry

  • I have Dust inside of the screen of my macbook pro, it has accumulated now and is a big hindrance. Is there any way to clean it

Its a Mac book Pro (Late 2012). Dust is in the display, and its annoying how its in the center of the screen

Hi. the glass in front of the display on the 2012 macbook pro is held on by magnets. If can be removed, but it's tricky. At the store they use a suction cup. The Imac is the same way and I have remove the glass on them. I did it by inserting a thin but sturdy piece of plastic starting at the upper corner and working around the top edge. You have to be very careful or you can crack it. It would be safer to take it in to apple store. I know if too much dust get on the screen between the glass and the lcd it will kind of burn into it.

  • Any way of cleaning the dust behind a matte screen?

I have a few specs of dust that have been bugging me!
This is a brand new laptop as well. What is the best way to get rid of the dust? And is there a way to protect the screen from getting more dust? THANKS!
Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I would take it into your local Apple Store/authorised service centre to have them have a look at it. Dust or dead pixels you should have so many as to bother you.

  • Is there any way to clean the mouse button?

Everytime I click it seems real tough, like maybe something was spilled in it, although I didn't. Does it come off like the keys to clean?

Hi, Barry. No, the trackpad button doesn't readily come off for cleaning. Other than using canned compressed air to blow all around the button's perimeter and try to dislodge any material that may be stuck under the button, I don't know of much you can do. If there is sticky glop under the button, your only repair option is to replace the top case, which includes the trackpad assembly.
A workaround, of course, is to use a USB mouse with the Powerbook.

  • Sounds "hollow"... any way to clean this up?

I have a project with mixed audio. Some of it was recorded in a studio under perfect conditions with great equipment. Unfortunately the rest comes from DV shot by three different people on three different cameras and two sound really bad. With one, I've adjusted the gain and it's acceptable when layered with music. The other sounds like it's recorded in a tunnel -- like there a hollow, almost echo sound to the subject's voice. Anyone figured out how to adjust for this? I'm kind of new to this. I'm evolving from iMovie to FCExpress to FCP.

Unfortunately, no. This is a common question for a common problem when using the audio off a camera mic. There's simply no good way to make this audio sound any better once it's recorded. Sorry.

  • Safari on my macbook air (OS X) is slow, any ways to speed it up?

I recently found after updating to lion that safari was performing really slow. im running on 10.7.2, any ideas to speed it up?

    1. Make sure only to have cookies for websites you want to store passwords for under the Safari preferences for security.
    2. Make sure your browser cache hasn't gotten corrupted by occasionally emptying it.
    3. Make sure your hard disk isn't too full.  Arbitrarily 85% full is the max before things start to slow down.
    4. Don't backup your data while using the machine, make sure Time Machine is only enabled to go off when you aren't using the computer.
    5. Check that Spotlight is not indexing by seeing if indexing is mentioned in its menu.  If it is, wait till it completes by waiting till all you see is the search field.

  • I imported A LOT of duplicate pictures.  Any way to clean them out easily?

    see subject.
300, possibly more of the pictures are duplicates. I could select each one, hit cmd-delete, press OK for the warning, repeat ad insanium....but hopefully there is an easy way for Aperture to find duplicates! iTunes can!

I think it's actually "iPhoto-edited" with a hyphen in there. I tried this on my system, and simply typing "iPhoto-edited" into the filter field showed the ones that had the tag... actually, I think iPhoto adds it as a keyword, not a tag... try it.

  • Any way to change the default lists in the  "to" field pop-ups?

I used to be able to start typing a name in the "to" field in a new email and I would get a list of addresses that matched what I had begun to type. Usually the first one would be the proper choice for people I email often. Lately I get a list of "matches" that are nowhere near the choices I want. Even trying to send an email to myself I get choices in the list for an old email address I haven't used in years and my current email address (the one I have in my address book for my name) doesn't even show up!
Could this database be corrupted? Is there any way to clean this out or delete items I don't want showing up in this list?

Hi do this for me and tell me if there is anything listed.
Choose Mail > Preferences and click Composing.
Select "Automatically complete addresses" and click the Configure LDAP button.
