MACBOOK 1.8 Mhz: Too limited for playing games in Windows?

I’m having a terrible time trying to play games in mi MacBook 1.8 MHz, in Windows, using the last version of bootcamp and 1GB of RAM. Some games don’t start; others crash during the execution, and with others, the whole windows crashes and got restarted.
I've reviewed many posts sent to the BootCamp forum, looking for a solution, but it seems those problems don't affect to the Macbook PRO users.
It seems that our Video Card (the MacBook Card) it's too limited, compared with the PRO video cards (a video memory problem or something related).
Has anyone had similar problems? Have you found any solution?
Thanks.
Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

the MacBook is hampered by a low-end graphics solution that relies on shared RAM instead of its own VRAM (although it has 64MB VRAM). About the only improvement you can make is to max-out your RAM to 2GB. Even then, you may not be very pleased, and many games may not work at all. Check the specs on the games to see how they handle the Intel GMA 950. Upgrading to 2GB is not cheap and (IMHO) not worth the $ just to get better gaming performance. The MacBook will never be adequate for that purpose.
Good luck!

  • Macbook Pro 2012 gets extremely hot when playing games on windows par.

So im just playing some games like BF4, Skyrim, etc and all of a sudden studder, the metal heats up, and whats missing? The fans! They dont even bother to turn on to keep things cool like on the OS X side.
Anyway to get the fans running like they do on the OS X par? I dont want to overheat my mac.
    Thanks

I can't tell if your Mac is getting too hot without knowing the actual temperatures,  but they do run hotter in Windows, hottest with games.
But reinstalling the support software should eliminate that from the puzzle.

why don't you send your sequences straight to Compressor first, encode your movies as MPEG 2 and AC3 audio and import all assets in DVD studio PRO?

  • SQL Developer Script Output too limited for student - how to increase?

I'm just a student trying to migrate from notepad and SQL Plus to using the SQL Developer for the comprehensive course project. Unfortunately, the script output is way too limited... it only reports a fourth of my last assignment's results - not enough to use in the project. How specifically can this be increased. I have version 1.1.0.21 running on Windows XP on a laptop with 512k memory.
Thanks much for any/all assist. I don't want to go back to notepad!!

Thank you for the advice, but I had tried that. My script is 305 lines counting blank lines and the SQL developer displays only about 35 lines of results corresponding to 58 lines of input. When I run the same script in SQL Plus in a console window using the @filename command, I get the entire output.

  • Time Machine backs up one MacBook, but "backup is too large" for second

We have two MacBooks running OS 10.5.8 and both are connected wirelessly to Time Capsule. My daughter's laptop backs up fine. But my wife's laptop fails. It backed up one time when I first installed it, but never since. The error message I get is that the backup is too large for the backup volume -- 71.8 GB required but only 7.4 GB available.
My daughter's machine has a lot of photos and iTunes files on it, so it shows 141 out of 150 GBs are used up. The Time Capsule, which I understood to have 1 TB actually shows only 7.4 GB out of 463 GB are available.
And actually, when I try to manually run Time Machine on my wife's machine I get the really long Preparing message, and then the Time Machine Error message about not enough volume.
Should a machine with 150 GB capacity really be taking so much space on Time Capsule, and why the difference between the 1 TB advertised capacity and the <500GB of memory that actually appears to be there?
Does any of this suggest I need to restore the external or internal drives?

Does it make sense that it's trying to back up about 60 GB (Time Machine adds 20% for temporary workspace) from that Mac?
If so, see if it has the +Warn when old backups are deleted+ box checked in Time Machine Preferences > Options.
Click the Time Capsule in a Finder sidebar. If the Finder is in +Column View,+ you should see something like this:
    |
except there should be two +sparse bundles+ listed in the third column. Right-click each one in turn, select +Get Info,+ and see what's shown for Size. Report back with the numbers. Also tell us if you have any other data on your TC, besides the 2 Mac's backups.

That sounds like it's doing a "deep traversal," perhaps after a long time since the last backup, where it has to compare everything on the Mac to the backups, to figure out what needs to be backed-up.
Should a machine with 150 GB capacity really be taking so much space on Time Capsule
Sure. Time Machine will use up all the space available to it, then begin deleting the oldest backup(s) when it needs room for new ones.
and why the difference between the 1 TB advertised capacity and the <500GB of memory that actually appears to be there?</div>
It does sound like you have a 500 GB Time Capsule. The original ones were 500 GB; I'm not sure when the 1 TB version came out, and now you can get them with 2 TB. How old is it, and why do you think it's a 1 TB model?

  • Using VMWare Fusion for playing games

Hi all and I hope you can help.
I have a recent 17" MBP with 2GB of RAM and a Core 2 Duo and I am trying to get some decent game software running on it. To do this I have installed VMWare Fusion, XP Pro and Crysis.
My problem is, I can get the game to run but it is VERY choppy and unplayable.
I have tried various virtual settings, including using 1 and 2 processors, 512mb to 1.5gb RAM but never getting it to run properly.
I am not trying to run it full screen or anywhere near high settings and have allowed the game to scan the hardware to find it's optimal settings and still no luck.
I know Crysis is quite a heavy load but with the hardware in an MBP it should be able to run it without many problems.
Am I being too optimistic trying to run Crysis or are there a set of parameters that are optimised for doing this?

VMWare will also allow you to virtualize a boot camp partition.
The problem with virtualization and gaming is that, while you get direct CPU access and protected memory access, you do not get video access - so there is absolutely no video acceleration, it's all emulated or translated by the virtualizer.
You'll see a very minor CPU hit on anything that just using processor power or takes a lot of data (so long as you have enough physical RAM, and have enough RAM allocated to the virtual machine, to prevent disk swapping), but anything that needs video acceleration will suffer tremendously if it's virtualized.
In general, anything more than Solitare or Minesweeper, and you will want to use Bootcamp if there is no Mac OS X native version of the game (hooray for Blizzard, and all you other mac-native developers). I know the latest versions of VMWare and Parrallels all say they have new DirectX support, and Crossover has a version out just for gaming, but you'll disappoint yourself if you think these will do much more than just show the splash screen and a slide show for most games.
The good news is more game companies are starting to take Mac OS X seriously, and technologies such as Cider are helping developers port their code easier. But it's a long road, and the Macintosh has notoriously been spotty for gaming.

  • Will my photo book be printed even without upgrading my iPhoto? My MacBook is 2010 and too old for the iPhoto update

I get a warning when I try to order that I should upgrade iphoto before ordering.  However, my 2010 MacBook is too old to accomodate the iphoto upgrade.  I just want to be sure that my book will print ok since i'm spending nearly $200 on it!  Can someone answer yes or no???

For your information a 2010 13" Macbook can run Mavericks and thus the latest iPhoto 9.5.1.
This screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
Note 1:  every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1.

  • Zooming Too Limited for pdf files

    Hi,
I have a couple of pdf files specifically of the New York City Subway and Bus system that I use (e.g. http://www.mta.info/nyct/maps/subwaymap.pdf). I have used these on my old Dell PDA with no problem. On the iPod touch, there seems to be an artificial limit on how far you can zoom in. Unfortunately it is not far enough to read and use the map easily.
Does Apple have any plans to address this (seemingly artificial) shortcoming?

  • HP Touchsmart IQ510 For Playing Games?

Hi my Fiancee brought one of these yesterday from comet and its brilliant, i just have a few questions.
I tryed to install The Elder Scrolls Oblivion and after it does the install and i press "play" it comes up with a error message saying...
"This application has failed to start because d3dx9_27.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"
I tryed updating the graphics card drivers and the game itself but no luck i was just wondering if there might be some simple solution i am missing because i know i could try more drastic options but too be honest i don't wanna play about too much with her brand new computer and if it does'nt work i ain't too bothered.
Also do you rekon some other games i might have more luck with or should i just forget about gaming on this computer even if the spec is good enough for most of the games i wanna play.
    Kind Regards
    Steven.

Could be heat related. Games tend to run up the temps on notebook computers. Make sure you are doing everything possible to allow the normal cooling funcitons to work to the fullest:
no running it in your lap or on  pillow or blanket without using a lapboard.
no blocking the hinge area ion the back edge of the case
if using an external monitor, leave the built-in display open; "clamshell mode" traps heat.
Also use Activity Monitor to check for overactive background processes. Quit any user apps before running this test. Be sure to set its Show window to "All processes," and highlight the "%CPU" column to sort by CPU usage. Watch the list for about a minute--it's dynamic--and note any processes that consistently use more that 15-20 percent of the cycles.
Try turning off Dashboard. Restart and don't invoke any widgets; see if things are better. If so, then you need to guit Dashboard after using a widget. I use the widget DashQuit 3.0 to turn off all the widgets after use. Any widget that gets its info from the network can use up resources.

  • I was wondering if the entry level 21" imac would be ok for playing games like the total war series on a medium setting, or am i better off spending an extra £250 for the next 'level' of imac? Thanks

I am not worried about playing on ultra or high or anything, I am happy with medium settings.
    Thanks for your time.

Yes, it should be adequate for your needs.
