Macbook Air OS X Version 10.9.3

I have a Macbook Air purchased from new Jan 2014 which keeping freezing/locking up when watching sky go the only way to restart is by powering down.. I've check connection speed and 36mb download and 9mb upload so its not my connection speed.. via iPad it works ok
Any Help would be appreciated
Joe

If you are using the Sky Player software, it may be that this app is using up all you memory space and crashing the computer. How much memory do you have installed? Do you have other apps running at the same time? Are there settings in the Sky Player that can limit its demands?

  • Update my macbook air a1369 to version 10.7.4

how can update macbook air a1369 to version 10.7.4

Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)

When I transferred my data from a 128GB Macbook Air to 256GB Macbook Air (brand new version as of 9/1/13) I end up with 188GB used!   I add up the size of Users, System, Library and Applications and it comes to 90GB.  What am I missing?  How did I "use" up so much space in migrating from one Mac to another?

Did you use the Setup Assistant available at the beginning of the new machine's setup process? Or did you use Migration Assistant later after you had set up the new machine?
If you used Migration Assistant, you generally wind up with two accounts (the new one you set up on the new machine plus the old one you ported over) - that may explain your excessive use of space. In that case, you can either manually combine/remove all unnecessary duplicate files, or you can start over by using Command + R, wiping your drive, and downloading the OS. Once it's downloaded, use the Setup Assistant offered at the beginning of the install/setup process.

You're best bet in this case is to re-install the OS. While doing a re-install will not normally harm your user data having a good working backup in cases like this is essential.

  • New MacBook Air vs previous version- processor speed?

I was going to exchange my < 2wk old MacBook Air for the newer version.  the new one has better battery life but it looks like smaller processor?  1.3 GHz vs the 1.8 that I have.  How much difference is this?

500HMz is actually a pretty big difference... especially in this range.  Depending on your use though, it's entirely possible you would never notice.  Besides improved battery life, the new Air also has significantly better graphics performance (about a 40% increase).  What do you typically use your MacBook Air for?  If you use processor intensive applications, you may want to stay with your current model.  If you do things that involve graphics, the newer model might be a better option.
Basically... you might have one car that can go 200 miles per hour... and one that can go 150 miles per hour.  But maybe you only ever need to go up to 70 miles per hour.  Basically, they would both meet your needs as you'll never need the full power of either.  That's how you can look at the difference in the processor performance.  Just because one is lower, doesn't mean it will perform differently in your daily tasks.
I personally would probably go with the newer model (especially since you're still within the 2 week return period).  The boost in graphics performance and the reduced energy use would outweigh the difference in processor speeds.

  • Can no longer print a PDF on Macbook Air - latest OS version

I had a message recently stating that I the HDD on the Mac was getting close to full, so moved some programs (including Acrobat Professional 11.0.10) and since then, I can't print any files using Acrobat. MS Office files print fine, so don't think it's a computer wide issue. Was there some other files that needed to be transferred to the external drive? Acrobat seems to open happily from the external drive. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks, Kaye

  • Connecting Apple TV device and Macbook Air (early version) without using a TV

    Hei,
I am trying to set up my home cinema using a projector and not a TV. I have a Macbook Air early 2011 version (the one where you can only stream directly from Itunes and use a third party device to play the rest) that I am trying to connect this device to the apple tv device - but as said without using a tv. I have speakers with a console where you can run an optical digital cable from the console to the Apple TV (as this will then give me sorround sound as opposed to the airport express that has not got this option). However my computer and projector is on the other side of the room so I want to be able to wirelessly connect to my speakers via my computer.
All set up guides with the apple tv involves connecting the apple tv device and a TV with an HDMI cable. As I am not using a TV and I am not connecting the apple tv device and my projector only aiming to stream sound to the speakers to the Apple TV device I am at a loss in terms of what I need to do. Can anybody help?
    Thank you!
    Lene

Airplay requires both devices to be connected to the same network (wired or wireless).

  • Officejet Pro 8600 - Macbook Pro and Macbook Air will not print

    Products:
    HP Officejet Pro 8600
Macbook Pro (Mac OS X, Version 10.7.5)
Macbook Air (OS X, Version 10.8.2)
    Question:
Why did my Macs initially print fine, but now will not print at all?
    Full Story:
I have a wireless network at my house that consisted of a 30mb cable internet, Netgear 900n, HP Officejet Pro 8600, 2 Dell Laptops with Windows 7, a Lenovo Laptop with Windows 7, and Dell Tower with Windows 7 - All printed just fine.
The HP Officejet 8600 was added to my network about 2 months ago.
I added a Macbook Pro and a Macbook Air about 3 weeks ago.  Both Macs printed just fine for about a week.  Then suddenly they stopped.  I spent about 2 hours on the phone with HP Service, and they finally said it must be my router.  So I called Netgear.  Netgear was useless!  They wanted me to agree to charges for services before they would even discuss the issue.
Due to information provided by HP's service support, and because Netgear will not support their product, I promptly purchased a new router - an Apple Airport Extreme.
The Macs recognize the printer, will print if hardwired via a USB cable, but will not print wirelessly to the Officejet Pro 8600.  The PCs print fine.
The frustration that is being felt is compound by the fact that the Macs printed just fine with the Officejet Pro 8600 2 weeks ago, and now the printer just shows "idle"... even with a new router. (see image below)
Please help, I appreciate any support.
As a side note, the HP Service rep was very friendly, and definitely tried to support the HP Product, which is much more than I can say about Netgear.
    Thank you,
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
More likely the issue related with Multicast, which Apple devices relies on to communicate with teh device through the network.
First try unplugging the router for 30 seconds.
Plug it back to the power and wait for 2-3 minutes.
Turn the HP printer Off and back On, then check for any difference.
If the same persists, try changing your router configuration as following
Note: the settings below are not related with the HP product, I provide you the steps as a best effor and those are only based on my own knowledge. you may try modifying the router settings at your own risk:
Open the router configuration page (can be found listed as the Default Gateway by clicking the Wireless icon on the printer, then print a network configuration report.
    Click the Advanced tab.
Click the Setup option from the menu, then click on WAN Setup.
Make sure to uncheck the box next to Disable IGMP Proxying and Apply the changes.
Click the LAN Setup on the same Setup menu.
Set the RIP Version as RIP-2 and Apply the changes.
Reboot your router and then check for any change.
I hope you may find that information useful, you may also use the user guide below for further information:

  • MacBook Air unresponsive after opening iTunes after upgrade to 11.1

I recently upgraded my MacBook Air to new version of iTunes, I believe it was 11.1 if that was what came out yesterday, and now the computer is unresponsive once I open iTunes.  A sign in box for a premier networks podcast is displayed but I am unable to enter any information as it will not allow any input.  The iTunes and apple menu cannot be accessed.  The only way to regain control of the computer is to force quit iTunes.  The podcast that the sign in box appears to be associated with is a PBS podcast that was deleted a very long time ago.

  • How to install Canon MG3170 printer to Macbook Air (mid 2012), both USB & wifi

I have been trying to install the Canon MG3170 to my Macbook Air (mid 2012 version) using OS X Version 10.8.4. I followed the paper manual that came with the box & used the CD provided. In the midst of the installation, "AN ERROR OCCURRED WHILE TRYING TO ADD THE SELECTED PRINTER: UNABLE TO FIND THE APPROPRIATE SOFTWARE ON YOUR SYSTEM AFTER RUNNING SOFTWARE UPDATE."
    Problems:
    1) Cannot connect on Network because there is no WPS button on my Airport Extreme and Airport Express.
    2) Cannot print, both via USB or wifi network.
When I bought the printer, I specifically selected this because it has Airprint and wireless printing and was one of the few printers in the Apple Online store. However, I have been having a lot of issues getting the printer installed to be used on  my Macbook Air.
    Please help!!

    Thank you John Galt!
After running SOFTWARE UPDATE, I restarted the Macbook. (DO NOT CONNECT THE PRINTER TO THE MACBOOK YET!)
Then I connected the Canon Printer MG3170 to my MacBook Air via the USB cable.
Next, I switched on the printer.
    I am able to print and scan (via USB cable) from;
SYSTEM PREFERENCES - PRINT & SCAN - select CANON MG3100 series.
To install applications for printing & scanning, go to http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/contents/ASIA/EN/8201148300.html
However, this solved part of the question above, i.e., printing via USB cable (which is not the whole purpose of using the Airprint Printer) but at least it is a start.
*NOTE: UNINSTALL any prior Canon softwares and drivers specifically installed for this printer first before attempting the steps above as it may interfere with the installation process.

  • Disk space usage on MacBook Air 256 GB

I have a MacBook Air 256 GB version (summer 2011). I only have abot 15 GB stored under my personal data and about 30 GB on a partition for Fusion under which Windows 7 is installed. Other major applications are MS Office 2011, nothing else much, other than what came with the laptop. I've cleaned the browser cache.
However the system information shows only 10 GB free on the Serial ATA; where do I find the files that are clogging up the disc? With files mentioned as above, I would expect at least 150 GB to be free.
    Thanks!

I'm still betting on the Time Machine backups being the issue.  Apple sometimes "adjusts" reported free space to try and remove this space, though I've seen it get (temporarily) fouled up about this number.  So, for instance, Finder does not count such space as used, but Disk Utility will show it as used.
Those backups are written to "/.MobileBackups" which (kind of) shows up as the "MobileBackups" drive you will see from time to time. Although items are written out to it and some deletion compression takes place, like your external Time Machine the general rule is that this thing will continue to grow until it (eventually) fills all available space.  That is by design.
The MobileBackups disk you see in OmniDiskSweeper is the mounted version, and it doesn't appear you will get useful information if you "size" that volume.  However I believe you can get the "real" size of the MobileBackups from a couple of places.
Officially, About This Mac->More Information and then Storage will tell you about the backups on your flash drive.  That's *usually* correct, though I've seen it get lost on the machine I'm writing this on.  I suspect that's because the machine had been set up using Migration Assistance from a MacBook Pro that had been running Lion for a while and some of that information may have "tainted" the starting point.  Now the system appears to have finally figured out the real space used :-) .
I'm not sure it's more reliable (since now everything appears to work fine), but you might also get some information if .MobileBackups is involved by running the command in Terminal to show the size of that directly (Finder won't show because only root has permission to look at it).
I first fired up Terminal to get a command prompt.  From that prompt I entered the following:
    sudo du -sk /.MobileBackups
You will be asked for your password to authorize the command, but by the Terminal (not the standard OSX dialog).
When it ran (took a short time) it output the following:
    2728912
    /.MobileBackups
Which basically agrees with the 2.8GB of backups that About This Mac's More Information screen comes up with now.  And which Finder totally ignores and treats as not used.
If your drive has as much free space as you expect it should have and either you've had the machine for a while, or you've downloaded and deleted a buch of videos in a directory that's not excluded from Time Machine's backup routines, I could see those "there but not really" files (at least as OSX seems to view them) easily growing to be a pretty good size.  As I noted, if this is the problem OSX will kick parts of that backup off the drive as more space is needed--it's holding them there "just in case" you might want to restore them.
Have you actually had OSX complain about not having enough free space on the boot drive?
What I have found with Lion is that trying to reconcile various utilities views of free drive space can quickly drive you crazy :-) .  The cause always seem to involve accounting for that mobile version of Time Machine backups.

  • Macbook Air 13" (Oct 2010) Locks up when connecting external display

Since I installed Lion my Macbook Air needs to be restarted nearly every time I connect an external display.   This did not happen prior to Lion and wondering if anyone has a solution.
    Details:
    - 13" Macbook Air (October 2010 version)
    - Dell 27" LCD display
    - Mini-Displayport <-> Displayport cable used to connect

OK. It was a guess anyway.
I changed my screen resolution and then did a search of system files to see what was changed today.
I sorted by descending date/time and that file was at the top of the list.
I opened it with the Property List Editor program and saw it contained the changed resolution, so I took a guess that deleting that file and rebooting would set you straight.
You might look for recently changed files with likely names in your personal settings folder:
    ~/library/preferences
and try deleting and re-logon (you don't need to restart if you're only changing your own files - a re-logon picks up the change)
Sorry - I don't have a better guess. Good luck
