Macbook not remembering Wi-Fi

Hey there,
I'm having an issue regarding my Wi-Fi connection. It seems that my computer just won't remember my home Wi-Fi, and all others.
Everytime I shut down my computer, when I open it back, I always have to re-enter my 32 digits password... (Yes, I do check the case where it says ''remember this network'' or something like that) The same applies for my school network and everywhere else.
Is there any way to remember Wi-Fi connections when I enter the password, so I don't have to enter it again and again?
Thank you very much!

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
{ sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select
 ▹ Restart
from the menu bar.

  • My MacBook Pro Retina's Bluetooth chipset unknown/odd login message on the login screen states Login Window Authentication Login window Name edit text has keyboard focus. In addition, the login screen is not remembering me

I have been experiencing several issues with my MacBook Pro Retina mid 2012. My MBPR is scheduled to go into the depot. However, I am wondering if anyone may be able to shed light on a few issues as this is the third "official" time my MBPR is going back for service ("one depot" trip; "one authorized" dealer; several in-store visits).
My Bluetooth is stating that the Bluetooth Chipset is Unknown (0). I also have had Bluetooth Preferences mysteriously change on me. In addition, while Bluetooth is off there are two serial modems turning on. I have turned them off, but they continue to pop up.
In addition, when I log in, my MBPR is not remembering me and my login name is not appearing on the slate-gray screen. The name and password are blank and the following message appears in the lower left hand corner. "login window authentication login window Name edit text has keyboard focus."  As a side note, I am the only user. The login issue is a recent occurrence as we just totally wiped it again via a Command + R, and I don't believe I have an accessibility setting set to anything that would cause this, but wanted to check.
Should I be concerned here? Has anyone else had issues like this? I don't want to worry if I don't have to. I have had so many issues over the course of nine months. 5-6 wipes. Airport card replaced and I am about to pull my hair out if my MBPR doesn't come back worldly like clock work this time. I just can't send my days trying to get a $2300 product to work for me any longer. No idea what is wrong with it, but it is driving me insane. Cross your fingers for me and any guidance you have or thoughts would be welcomed. Thank you. EMM

There are a ton of other warnings. Before I go through this again, can someone tell me if this is normal (all of it -- above too); or if these are symptoms is a keystroke logger or hardware issues?
I ask because originally, when my computer went in for diagnostics (more than once), Apple stated the hardware was fine (other than Airport Card -- finally). However, if I've done 5-6 total wipes; created new users; do not have sharing set-up; have not played around in Terminal; and am up-to-date with versions -- and various issues KEEP COMING BACK -- I am left wondering if a keystroke logger would be possible here?!? I thought maybe a faulty logic board, but why would diagnostics be okay, then? Not trying to be hyperbole, just desperate.
Please help me rule keystroke logger out or at least, tell me so I know, so I can take appropriate action. If you think it could be the logic board with symptoms above, that would be a great too.
All I want to do is use the computer as intended, but I can't seem to get a real answer, so after nine months -- I am turning to the communities to see if anyone -- anyone at all -- can help. The last thing I can do is have the MBPR come back from the depot and the same thing occur. Any guidance or advice would be so gratefully appreciated.

  • HT3814 Why does iTunes on my MacBook Pro not remember/save edited info about CDs? It does on my G4.

I haven't used iTunes in awhile to play CDs. Lately though it is not remembering CD info I put into iTunes. I have been using iTunes since the late 90s. I have always been able to edit info for ANY CD I play on iTunes and that computer would remember that info. Lately my MacBook Pro isn't remembering this info. I am able to edit CDs on my G4 Powerbok and it is remembering the info. (The G4 is using 10.4.11 and iTunes 9.2.1 (5). I am using 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.6.1 (7) on the MBP.) This used to work on the MBP but I haven't dealt with CDs in 6 months or so so I don't know more closley when this behavior changed.)
I've had a go-rounds with Apple Care. Some say I have to import each track for iTunes to remember any edits on that track. I tried that today and that appears to be how things work now. That was not the case up until now. Has iTunes changed how it works?
I realize that iTunes will read file names on the CD if they are burned into the CD. I used Toast for some recent CDs I burned on the MBP awhile ago and voila, those files names are appearing whern I pop the CD in. I cannot edit them so that iTunes remembers them though unless I import whatever track I wanted to edit the info from. OK. That's a step backwards but OK. (I realize I am not editing the info on the CD itself. Once a CD is burned that's impossible, I would only be editing the info that iTunes has about it...) Most of the CDs I have burned do not have track titles as file names.
I know about the CD Info.cidb file. That is where info that I add manually (and info that Gracenote adds, which I also can edit...) gets saved. In the past I could edit ANY CD, regardless of where it came from, and that info would be saved in that file. That is not happening now.
I have moved the CD Info.cidb file to my desktop and edited some info. ITunes is NOT creating a new CD Info.cidb file.
So, has anything changed with iTunes or is there something else going on here? It could be a third-party app or an OS problem.
    Thanks for any help.
    Cheers,
    John L
PS Apple Care is looking into this some more and will call me back next Thursday if not before then. My fingers are crossed that will have some info that is helpful. If I now have to import a track so that I can edit it (and save that info) on a CD, well, so be it but it doesn't seem to be a step forward...
PPS For some reason, Apple put this under the iTunes Store. I would have put it under just iTunes. I forget the page where I asked the title of this question (which has since been edited). It then brought me to this particular forum. I would have moved it if I could...

Basically anything not purchased from iTunes that is on my iPhone 6 will not sync over to my MacBook. I have tried to just manually back it up but only the purchased music will sync over to iTunes.

  • Windows not remembering settings in MacBook Pro 15"

    hey all,
I have a MacBook Pro 15" released in 2008. I have dual booting set up between Mac OS X.5.6 and Windows XP. I have what I'd consider a unique problem but may be someone else out there has had similar issues.
Every time I launch into Windows, *it does not remember any of my settings such as my bluetooth wireless mighty mouse and my bluetooth wireless rocketfish keyboard or to use my external 28 inch Hannspree monitor as my primary.* I don't care so much about windows not remembering my monitor preference but it would be nice every time I log into windows having my mouse and keyboard ready to go.
When I launch into OS X, it remembers everything, from the external keyboard and mouse to setting the dock and top bar to the external 28 inch monitor.
Any thoughts on how to get this to work in Windows. Is there some some application that can do this.
    Thanks,
    Doug

    Is this what you've tried:
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • Macbook Pro will not remember wireless network

We have two Macbook Pros and are having issues with one of them not finding and then not remembering a particular wireless network.  The other one works normally on this network, as do our iPad and iPhones.
The problem Macbook Pro will find a number of other wireless networks in the vicinity, but not the one we wish to connect with.  However, when the required information about the network is entered into the Network Preferences, it does see the network and will connect with it, until the computer is shut down.  When it is powered-up again, the Macbook will not find it, even though, in theory, it had been told to remember it and that network had been moved up to #1 in the order of priority.
The settings on both Macbooks are the same, so why can one find and remember the network and the other not?  What can I do about the problem?
    Help please!

Settings for wireless network connections are actually stored in two separate places on your Mac, so in addition to the correct advice offered by Jolly Giant, you will also need to delete old network listings in KeyChain Access.
Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > KeyChain Access
Locate the name of the wireless network that you want to delete and click it to highlight it
    Click Delete on your keyboard
It would be a good idea to go ahead and also delete the current connection as well in case it has become corrupted. This will clear out the old settings and when you next connect to the network and enter the password, the new settings will be preserved.

  • My iphone 5 does not remember the password of my home network. Well this is ot the case with my ipad. The wifi gets disconnected every 2 minutes. Its not any problem with my wifi router as my ipad and other devices work fine. So how do i fix this problem?

Well my iphone 5 does not remember my home network. This is not a problem with the wifi router as the ipad works absolutely fine. The wifi loses it connection in just 2 minutes. So could you please fix this problem.

Not unless the modem is causing a problem.
What you want to do is get it to work reliably over Ethernet first, then tackle wifi. Power off the modem. On your macbook, delete the Ethernet configuration and the Wifi configuration. Power up the modem, then connect the mac via Ethernet. Create the new Ethernet configuration and see if you can connect.

  • Audio MIDI Setup not remembering settings on startup

On a Macbook 1,1 Intel Core Duo 2 GHz, SMC Version 1.4f12, OS X 10.4.8, Aggregate Device @ 2ch-24bit/96000.0 Hz:
The Audio MIDI Setup does not remember the 'Default Output' as 'Aggregate Device' and although 'Aggregate Device' is shown in the Properties For: field, only the 'Audio Input' area is shown.
Changing or re-selecting the Sample Rate under 'Format:' results in 'Aggregate Device' appearing in the 'Default Output:' field and the 'Audio Output' area showing the configuration.
I have to perform these steps every time I startup. I had the same behavior on my previous MacBook with identical specs but a different build week.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but Apple has absolutely no way to e-mail technical support queries unless you purchase that 'feature'? You have to call them with each 'bug' or technical difficulty?
    Thanks!
    Matt

Ah, Ok. Turns out the issue I described only occurs when there's an optical digital cable plugged into the output at startup.
Unplugging it and restarting does not return Audio MIDI Setup to it's previous behavior. Deleting the second of those two files you mentioned then performing the steps I first reported and then restarting without the optical digital cable inserted returns things to 'normal' and after numerous reboots continues to work as normal.
So, if I ever start up the MacBook with the digital optical cable inserted I will have to delete the .plist file if I want the proper behavior to return. Seems like a bug to me...
    Thanks!

  • Window not remembering the display it was on

    Hi,
    Dual Displays and Mavericks:
Before Maverick I would have certain applications like mail and the finder open on one monitor and other apps open on the other. Now with mavericks they do not remember which monitor they opened last on and stick there were I last left them. They always open open on the last display you clicked the desktop on. Any setting to change this behavior?
Thanks in advance for any help with this.
    Paul W.

I just came across a solution.  I think this might work for you, even though it seems kludgy:
Your situation may vary, but I'm using a MacBook Pro with an external LCD monitor and want to use both displays, each with their own desktop space
Open Mission Control and add a desktop by moving your cursor to the top right of your display and clicking on the new window that appears from the right
You should now have 3 desktops at the top of your display when Mission Control is open
In my case, my laptop's display is Desktop 1 and my external display is Desktop 3
Now, on the dock, right click on an app you're trying to stick to a particular desktop and choose Options -> Assign to Desktop X where X is the display you want the app to stay on
In my case, I want Mail to always show up on my laptop screen, which is Desktop 1, so I choose Options -> Assign to Desktop 1.  The reason I say this is kludgy is because I never use Desktop 2, but it has to exist in order for the Dock -> Options -> Assign To menu to appear.  If I just have Desktop 1 and Desktop 2, that option does not exist when I right click on an app in the dock.
*UPDATE:  It seems that once I perform the steps above, then close the third Desktop so my laptop is Desktop 1 and my external monitor is Desktop 2, mail will finally stick to Desktop 1 even though the option to assign Mail to a particular desktop disappears from Dock options when I right click the Mail icon.  However, every time I open a new window, the sizing is off and the window is halfway off the screen.  I have to maximize the app window every time I open it.

  • Mail will not remember account password LION

Just migrated to new Macbook Pro.  Apple Mail account is set up but it will not remember the password.  I have another account set up in Mail which is working fine.
    Ruzzer

After much frustration and googling, I ended up finding my own solution.
My situation came when I replaced my MAIL folder with another mail folder from another account.
At first the mail account acted normally, but the next day after starting the mac my mail kept asking for account passwords on ALL of my mail accounts (a mix of IMAP and POP3).
Here are the fixes I tried but didnt work
KeyChain Access = First Aid repair (did nothing and found no errors)
Deleted my Mail plist file (again nothing changed)
Triple checked my email account passwords (no change)
The one thing that I noticed was that most people where told to delete the Mail keychain password entry in keychain.  The thing is with my keychain there was NO MAIL KEYCHAIN.  I think this is the big problem.
To remedy this I tried the KeyChain Access FIRST AID REPAIR again, but this time I had a look at the Key chain log and found there was over 26,000 entried.  I figured they where only log files and just deleted all file. Restarted the mac and turned on mail, it will ask for password but this time it remembers the password!!!
Here is a step by step for you all:
WARNING: this will nuke all your stored keychains, be prepared to re enter any passwords or user names you may have stored.
    1. Open Keychain Access (Use spotlight and search "Keychain")
    2.  Go to Keychain prefs (Command + ,)
    3. In the GENERAL tab press the "Rest My Default Keychains" button
    4.  Enter your password (Press OK)
    5.  There will be an option to view log files, press this button
    6.  Select all files and delete them.
    7.  Restart your mac.
    8. Open mail, it will ask for your mail account password
    9.  enjoy the stress of email again!
I thought someone else my find this useful and save them some headaches.

  • Update 10.5.8 Wireless will not remember WPA2 Network Name and Password

After updating to 10.5.8 last night my wireless will not remember the WPA2 Personal - Network Name and Password between boots. I have to re-enter it each time I restart my MacBook (Intel Core 2 duo). I am running WiFi 802.11A and never had this problem in the two years I have owned this mac. [Going a different 802.11 frequency is not a fix].
Anyone else having this type of problem?
Comment: These OS X updates are annoying because seems that some standard common feature stops working for awhile (until the next fix).

I was having the exact same problem after the update too, and I tried everything that all of these posts recommended and nothing.
It wasn't until I deselected the option on the network preferences for "Ask to join networks", it mentions that it will connect to known networks, so as long as its saved it should remember it.
And Voila! next time I opened my macbook from sleep it connected to the WPA (which even happened to be a hidden one too).
I hope this helped because sometimes it doesn't have to be so complicated...

when you start using iCloud on any iOS device and enable find my iPhone, this prevents  a new user from using it, and also prevents anyone from using the phone
as it is locked to previous owners account ,this is also the case if when a phone is lost or stolen.
the only way around this is to have the previous owner reset their apple id by going to  @ applied.apple.com
if they are unable to do this, then the only other way around this is to have the previous owner get  a copy of their original receipt and call apple support who can then lift this lock if they get a copy of the receipt

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.
