I have a late 2008 Macbook pro and just bought a new battery, but it is not holding a charge.  I read it may be the charger,

Bring it back to the Apple store with your MBP and charger.  If the battery is found to be defective, they should provide you with a replacement (assuming you are in the warranty period).
    Ciao.

I am using my old iPhone for playlist for my Dad's funeral as that meets the crematorium requirements. Some tracks - uploaded from personal CDs to MacBook Pro and successfully transferred to new iPhone (with small doc) won't transfer on syncing.  Most do, but why won't some, of my own music sync when others off the same album and in the same playlist do? I have now checked the storage, freed up 766MB, how can i not sync (and get everything i've just deleted back) but upload the required tunes? All help appreciated, many thanks x x x

  • Macbook shutting down with new battery with 15 minutes remaining (consistent)

Just installed a supposed new battery for the White Macbook 4,1 model, from an Amazon seller.  The battery looks authentic, fits well, accepts and fully charges, but it is a little more yellow in color than the rest of the casing.  That's all I can find wrong with it.
The problem I am having is that the macbook will shutdown consistently with ~15 minutes left on the charge (under 10%).  I get no low battery warning.  I have tried numerous SMC and PRAM resets with no luck.  Battery temperature and computer temperature appear to be fine so the unit is not overheating.  The only indication I can assume is suspicious is that the battery will draw over 2 amps at times as that magic time remaining approaches.  Battery cycle count is 3 and remaining capacity is over 5300 mAh.
Here is the pertinent info from System Profiler:
    Battery Information:
      Model Information:
      Manufacturer:          DP
      Device Name:          ASMB0?6
      Pack Lot Code:          2
      PCB Lot Code:          0
      Firmware Version:          110
      Hardware Revision:          500
      Cell Revision:          102
      Charge Information:
      Charge Remaining (mAh):          631
      Fully Charged:          No
      Charging:          No
      Full Charge Capacity (mAh):          5336
      Health Information:
      Cycle Count:          3
      Condition:          Normal
      Battery Installed:          Yes
      Amperage (mA):          -836
      Voltage (mV):          10900
I'm running Lion 10.7.2 with 4 gigs of RAM installed.  I've read the Firmware version of this battery (110) needs updating but I can't find an updater that will run in Lion.  I also don't understand what ASMB0?6 means in the device name (what's up with the ?).  Again, the battery appears to be a legit Apple product and brand new by the cycle count (3).
Can someone help me resolve this issue?

    HI kostby,
I've been trying to calibrate the battery but can't do the 5-hour sleep procedure since the computer doesn't go to sleep.  Although I have noticed that the last time the shutdown occurred, the battery indicator light was one and blinking.  So the battery thinks it is drained but the computer does not (hence 15 minutes remaining and no low battery warning).  So I took the battery out of the computer last night with blinking indicator light and left it alone overnight.  I reinstalled the battery this morning and am charging it now.  Hopefully it calibrated.
If not, I am going to ask for a replacement from the Amazon.com seller, since I just bought it "new".
    Thanks for your insights.

I was advised to buy a new charger last week and have just been advised by an apple employee to buy a new battery for my MacBook 2009 and i am having the same issue as my old battery.
The Mac reconognises the battery but will not charge or run off the battery.
Just spent £150 in total on new charger and battery but still having the same problem as before.
I have downloaded the firmware update but my Mac is already running the latest software.

  • Macbook Pro won't run on new battery

Okay, so I have this 17" MBP, late 2007 vintage, gotten refurbished in 2010. The battery, which was at about 700 cycles as of last week, swelled and was somehow still working up to the point when the new battery got here and was put in. That's fine with me, it's a refreshing change from the oodles of power cords I've gone through in the last several years. HOWEVER. The new battery, purchased off eBay from a highly-rated seller, had a cycle count of one when I installed it, and is now causing me problems. The couple of times I had it off the power cord right after putting the new battery in, it behaved a little erratically, shutting down in the thirty seconds it took me to change locations with it, but I didn't worry myself about it.
I had it off the power cord earlier today, and it was fine for half an hour or more, but then shut itself down abruptly. When I plugged it in and rebooted, it was showing the battery at about 50%. I did a little research and reset both the SMC and the PRAM, in the hopes that maybe it was just an issue of not really recognizing that it was a new battery yet. Immediately after those resets, during a bootup without being plugged in, it shut itself down before even completing the boot. I'm really hoping it's just a fluke with the new battery, and not that some other aspect of the MBP is failing, but I figured I'd ask around here before contacting the eBay seller.

If you did the SMC reset and no love,  take it up with your highly-rated seller.

  • Strange behaviors on MacBook Pro before & after installing SL & new battery

I have also posted this question in the Snow Leopard forum as I am not sure where it belongs. We have a MacBook Pro that up until recently had been running Tiger. A problem developed whereby we could not access the iTunes store. A message that the store was "not available at this time" came up repeatedly while at the same time another computer was able to make connections with it. In addition, when Firefox was opened, a prompt appeared to drag the Firefox icon to the applications folder. Even after this was done, the same prompt would appear during subsequent sessions.
We updated the OS to Snow Leopard, and the iTunes store problem was resolved. However, there are some other unusual things going on with other applications.
    1. When Photobooth is opened, we get this message: "There is no connected camera."
    2. When we open any of the Office applications, we are greeted with: "To open Microsoft Word (or Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), you need to install Rosetta."
    3. The above-described issue with Firefox still occurs frequently. Even though Firefox is located in the Applications folder, there is now a volume named Firefox on the desktop. We can't get rid of it.
We don't know for sure if the Photobooth and Office issues were present right before the Snow Leopard installation, but they had worked properly in the past.
One thing we did do is a verify and repair of permissions. There were MANY that needed to be repaired.
In addition, right around the time SL was installed, the computer was frequently shutting off without warning. The mouse was also operating erratically. It was found that the battery needed to be replaced, as the existing one was expanding and was actually disrupting the operation of the mouse pad. Could this battery have been the source of these problems?
What are the next steps we should take?

I can deal with parts of this.
    2. When we open any of the Office applications, we are greeted with: "To open Microsoft Word (or Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), you need to install Rosetta."
Snow Leo is very aware of apps that are not coded for Intel processors. This message suggests you have Office 2004 or older. Intel coding did not come to Office Mac until version 2008. Rosetta is an Apple emulation technology that lets apps coded for older PowerPC processors work on Macs with Intel processors. Most emulators do not give the performance of a program running natively.
You can either upgrade Office to the previous version 2008, buy a current Office 2011, or deal with the vagaries of emulation. Many people reported that Office 2004 had problems, particularly with keyboard input, when used on an Intel Mac.
NOTE: If you rely on Entourage for a mail client, Office 2011 has dropped Entourage. The business version comes with a new version of Outlook for Mac that replaces Entourage but the Home/student edition does not. If you go for Office 2011 and want to stay with mail features similar to Entourage, you'll have to get the higher-priced version.
One thing we did do is a verify and repair of permissions. There were MANY that needed to be repaired.
I would do it again because some of the things you describe sound like permissions issues. Sometimes, updates can install something that changes permissions. You should be using the version of Disk Utility on your hard drive, not the install disk, to insure the settings in your user folder are properly repaired.

  • Where can I find a new battery with no charge cycles and a full charge capacity of 1430 mAh for an iphone 4S?

There are horrible reviews on so many battery replacement sites (Amazon comes to mind) where people are buying so-called new replacement batteries and finding that they're had several hundred recharge cycles and won't hold a full design charge.  Can't I get a replacement battery from Apple, or has Apple chosen to abandon it's iPhone 4S customers?  If there's anything on the Apple web site where you can buy a replacement battery for the product, it's not obvious.

  • My macbook is too old to use new iTunes with my iPhone, is there a way around this?

I'm not sure which operating system it is but I bought it in September 2006 if that helps...
Do I really need to buy a new computer in order to sync my iPhone?!

    Hi There
To check the version of Mac OS X you're running click on the Apple menu in the top left corner of the screen and select About This Mac. The iPhone 4 requires a computer running Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later with iTunes Version 10.1 or later (http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html).
You do not need to purchase a new computer just a new OS if you're running 10.4.x (x is any number). If you're running 10.5.x you just need to run software update to get the latest version of 10.5 and iTunes which the iPhone can be used with.

  • Stolen MacBook Pro, can I buy a new one with educational discount?

I know this might not fit in this forum, but my question is:
I have a MBP purchased last October with my educational discount. I think it is the case that I can use my educational discount only once a year to buy an Apple computer. However, my MBP is stolen and I have copies of the reports from the police. Can I use my educational discount again even if its less than one year since my last purchase?
Also, is there a place I can register the stolen computer's MAC address or serial number so in case it goes back for Apple for a repair, it can be caught.
    Thanks,

*"Can I use my educational discount again even if its less than one year since my last purchase?"*
Nobody here can answer that with any certainty. You would need to ask Apple.

  • My macbook Pro wont turn on after getting new battery

I had one of the defective batteries which eventually just died on me. I had mac send me a new one. After switching the new battery with the old one I expected my laptop to work fine. After pressing the power button a number of times the laptop eventually turned on. I would have to sit there for a few minutes but it would work. After about a day of this the laptop will no longer turn on. The power light is on and it makes the regular noises accompanied with turning on the computer and the laptop is registering the power adapter but it wont turn on. One thing of note is that it makes a strange noise for about 3-5 seconds occasionally when I turn it on. Anyone have any ideas?

Take it in for repair at a local authorized service center. Sounds like there is an issue with the power manager.
P.S. Please read this tip as you seem to confuse what "mac" and "Apple" refer to:

I have a 4 year old macbook pro.
I needed a new battery because I was using the wrong power cord with this macbook.
i was using my 13" plug with my 17" and that caused the battery to need servicing.
so, being its 4 years old, I decided to replace it myself.
I did. and its a beautiful new battery.
unfortunatley.... my computer keeps crashing and I here the power click off -as if i held the power button to shut it down.

i got a report the last time it crashed...

  • Battery life is only 2 hours. Which new battery?

    Hi,
I nearly have about 500 cycles with my macbook so i probably need a new battery. When I would buy one in an Apple store, can i buy one which also goes in the new macbook (pro) so I could also reach battery times of 5 hours+? Or do i need a specific battery for my 'older' macbook?
    Thx

Hi ricaaaaar: Yes, at 500 cyscles there is a very strong possibility that the battery is done. Yes, you do need the "older" style battery. The new style will not fit in your computer.

  • Battery suddenly fails, new battery sees similar problem

A few weeks ago, my battery randomly dies. Went from getting a 4 hour charge to none, it would shut off as soon as I unplugged it. HP Support Assistant said I needed a new battery, with the error code of REEOW. So I purchased a brand new one, and it seemed to fix the problem. However, I started to realize it was only partially fixed...now, my laptop suddenly dies after short use. It will say 55% remaining battery left, according to the indicator, before just randomly dying. Plugging it back in, it suddenly says 0% remaining. Now, HP Support Assistant says once again I need a new battery, same error code of REEOW. I've only had this battery for two weeks. What the heck is going on?

    Anybody?
