Stolen MacBook Pro, can I buy a new one with educational discount?

I know this might not fit in this forum, but my question is:
I have a MBP purchased last October with my educational discount. I think it is the case that I can use my educational discount only once a year to buy an Apple computer. However, my MBP is stolen and I have copies of the reports from the police. Can I use my educational discount again even if its less than one year since my last purchase?
Also, is there a place I can register the stolen computer's MAC address or serial number so in case it goes back for Apple for a repair, it can be caught.
Thanks,

*"Can I use my educational discount again even if its less than one year since my last purchase?"*
Nobody here can answer that with any certainty. You would need to ask Apple.

  • If I had a macbook pro, and I buy a new one can I give my old macbook to pay part of the new one ?

The thing is that I want to buy a new macbook, but I dont know if apple can accept my old one as a part of paying part of the macbook. If not, what are the options for my old macbook pro?

Apple doesn't take used systems in trade. You can prepare the system to be sold (delete your personal data, etc), and put it on ebay or craigslist or other resource to sell it. Or you could always donate it to a member of your family.

  • If i had a stolen ipod touch can i get a new one with my warranty

if i had a warranty from walmart and my ipod was stolen can i get a new one

Unfortunately most warranties do NOT cover theft.
However, take this as a lesson. Next time make sure to set-up Find My iPhone through iCloud.com. I had my iPod stolen once and I was able to track it back and find it easily with that program!
    Cheers!

  • My hard drive crashed on my macbook pro and I had a new one installed and they were unable to get my pictures off of it. Is there anyone who could help? I'm going to lose all my memories of my kids! I got my old hard drive

My hard drive crashed on my macbook pro so i had a new one installed and they couldn't get my pictures off. I dont want to lose all my memories! They gave me back my old hard drive. Is there anyone that could help me?

I think how you understand the value of having backups. All you can do is:
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.
You will need an external enclosure for the old drive so you can connect it to the computer in order to try the recovery software before you buy it. But if they don't work then you will need to send the drive to a recovery service such as Drive Savers.

I am using my old iPhone for playlist for my Dad's funeral as that meets the crematorium requirements. Some tracks - uploaded from personal CDs to MacBook Pro and successfully transferred to new iPhone (with small doc) won't transfer on syncing.  Most do, but why won't some, of my own music sync when others off the same album and in the same playlist do? I have now checked the storage, freed up 766MB, how can i not sync (and get everything i've just deleted back) but upload the required tunes? All help appreciated, many thanks x x x

maybe this post by Zevoneer helps.
I don’t want to hear any of that “iTunes will let you re-download anything you’ve lost” nonsense.
it won't anyways. except or apps, you are entitled to one download only. there4 it is important to back up.

See this official Apple article on how to unpair your remote with an Apple TV.

  • What do i do if my ipod touch is stolen? Can i get a new one with no payment?

I need some help trying to figure this out please

Report the incident to law enforcement.
No, you can't get a new one for free because it's stolen.
If you have the Find My iPhone app installed and it's a 4th generation iPod touch, follow the instructions here.

  • If i cancel an account can I create a new one with the same e-mail address?

I made an account with Game Center and I wanted to use it to get some free apps on the iTunes Store. When I tried to sign in on iTunes (for Windows) it said I had to review my details. I didn't have a credit card so I couldn't complete it and there wasn't any option for no credit card.
I wondered if I could cancel my account and create a new one with the same e-mail address. There was a discussion that you could create a new account on the iTunes Store and have the choice to not have a credit card.
    Any help will help!
    SuperHoops

No, it does not, not if the creation of the Apple ID was completed, which unless you are referring to a different Apple ID I presume it did since you are posting here. And once created, you can't get apps without providing a payment method; setting up for just free apps requires a very specific procedure or a payment method is necessary. Creating an account via Game Center does not work.
If you can create a new email address (Gmail or Yahoo mail will work), take a look here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
You will of course not be able to get anything other than the free apps without entering in some sort of payment method (credit card, prepaid iTunes card, gift certificate, etc.)

  • Where can I buy a new iMac with Snow Leopard on it?

    Hi Folks,
If I go to the Apple Online Store I can only purchase imacs with Lion on it.  My software does not run on Lion.  Where can I purchase a brand new iMac with Snow Leopard on it?

It is a little late in the game to find one at Apple, much less one from an Apple Reseller like Fry's or Best Buy. For example, late last year I found a new 2010 Mac Mini that was still on Snow Leopard at the Sacramento Fry's, but it was there last one.
Actually your best bet at this point in time, is to buy used from a private party or "yuck" reconditioned from a second hand reseller.

  • Can I buy a new computer with Snow Leopard?

I tried Lion but I was very disappointed. Since I am planning to buy a new computer I would like to know if I can have Snow Leopard on it. On the Store I see "Lion included" everywhere and no option to have the previous OS version.
    Tanks
    Stefano

Thanks a lot Thomas. That's unbelievable and it is really disappointing.
To answer your question what I did not like was:
    - not to be able to customize the interface (e.g. up/down buttons in finder scroll bars, uncustomizable finder's side bar)
    - useless new features (e.g., launchpad - I do not need to use my laptop/desktop as if it were an iPad)
    - loss of programs (e.g, front row)
    - mission control is beautiful, but expose was helpful and I need the latter
    - versions and automatic save are not needed to me but I did not find a way to disable them. It looks they make my system slower
    - my macbook became generally slower, but I could cook eggs on it. Unfortunately I need a fast laptop and not a stove
I hoped I could downgrade the OS, but it is not the case, so this time I am going to buy a Linux box. Hopefully next OS will be better.

  • Can I buy a new iMac with mini display connection instead of thunderbolt?

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro which I would like to connect to use the display & am aware that a 2009 MacBook will not connect to a Thunderbolt Display. My husband has a new MacBook Air which has thunderbolt, but I think he can get a thunderbolt to mini display connector for him to use.

I want to be able to connect my 2009 MacBook Pro to the display on the iMac. The reason I asked about the display is because I know thunderbolt is not compatible with a 2009 MacBook Pro.
From reading other posts I understand that the Cinema Display connections are compatible but not the Thunderbolt Display connection.
I am presuming that the display that comes with the iMac is the same as the Thunderbolt Display which can be purchased separately, but maybe I am wrong?
    Thanks for your help.

  • LOST MY USB CABLE..CAN I BUY A NEW ONE SOMEWHERE???

i purchased my ipod nano about 4 months ago..foolishly about a week ago i let my younger brother borrow it..when he brought it back the USB cable was missing..now i cant hook it into my PC..so my question is can i purchase a new USB cable for my ipod from a store (like The Source) or do i need to order a new one??

You might consider buying a wall charger for your iPod. Handy to have anyway, but I know some of them, like the Griffin Technology Power Block...
    http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/powerblock/
come with a spare iPod USB syncing cable. Apple charges about $20 US for a replacement cable, so for about $10 US more you can get a cable and a spare external wall charger as well.

  • Macbook Pro: can't overclock Nvidia 320M (MPC89) with nvidia-settings

I would like to overclock the graphics on my Macbook Pro 7,1 with Nvidia 320M (MPC89) integrated graphics, using the nvidia-beta 270.30-2 proprietary driver. I know the risks involved. However the usual nvidia commands do not seem to work:
If I set it like this:
    $ nvidia-settings --assign "[gpu:0]/GPUOverclockingState=1" --assign="[gpu:0]/GPU3DClockFreqs=550,1200"
Attribute 'GPUOverclockingState' (arch-macbookpro:0[gpu:0]) assigned value 1.
    Attribute 'GPU3DClockFreqs' (arch-macbookpro:0[gpu:0]) assigned value 550,1200.
When I then check the settings I see default values again, and not the ones I set:
    $ nvidia-settings -q all | grep GPU3D
    Attribute 'GPU3DClockFreqs' (arch-macbookpro:0.0): 450,1064.
    The valid values for 'GPU3DClockFreqs' are in the ranges 112 - 900, 266 - 1276 (inclusive).
'GPU3DClockFreqs' can use the following target types: X Screen, GPU.
    Attribute 'GPU3DClockFreqs' (arch-macbookpro:0[gpu:0]): 450,1064.
    The valid values for 'GPU3DClockFreqs' are in the ranges 112 - 900, 266 - 1276 (inclusive).
'GPU3DClockFreqs' can use the following target types: X Screen, GPU.
Are there any other ways to try?

Did you activate coolbits in xorg.conf (or 20-nvidia.conf)? Even so, from what I know, overclocking isn't supported on mobile cards.

  • Do i need to use the phone line that came with the printer to fax paperwork or can I buy a new one?

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi Willcarter,
It is all up to you. You can use the phone line which came with the printer or you can get a new one. It does need to be a 2-wire phone line though.
    Thanks
