MacBook Pro and Cintiq 12UX display problems?

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this so I'm sorry if it isn't - this is just the only place I could think of to ask about a display problem?
I’ve just got the new model Cintiq 21UX, and I’m running it off one of the newer model MacBook Pro’s (using Apples adapter to connect the two).
Everything seems to be working fine, although on the Cintiq’s screen I get flickering green pixels in darker areas of the screen? The confusing thing is it doesn’t happen all the time, it just seems to be the one particular ‘shade’ of dark grey/dark tones it happens on - an example is if I move an image around then its the same area of colour it has problems with across the screen, or if I zoom in the effected area gets bigger etc. I can also edit the colour to a slightly different shade and the problem stops so it can’t be a dead/frozen pixel. If I turn on the mirror display option it is still only the Cintiq display that is effected.
I currently run the MacBook using the Nvidia 9600M GT, I did try switching to the 9400M but it made the situation a lot worse and caused green pixels lines to flash horizontally across the screen.
I can save the image or drag the window that the problems happening on and drag it back to the MacBooks’ screen and there is no problem with the pixels there - it’s only on the Cintiq display.
I was just wondering if this is either a fault with the Cintiq tablet itself, or possibly a problem with the MacBook?
If it’s useful the spec of the MacBook is:

Late 2008 unibody 15.4”
Mac OS X v10.6.3 Snow Leopard
2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT & 9400M
I’m not sure what other spec would be of use but if theres more I can let you know.
Any help would be appreciated, as it works fine other than this occational green flicker, and it’ll cost me a lot to send of either the Cintiq or the MacBook off for a service or replacement in the UK?
Cheers!

It could just be bad. Do you have another computer to try it with?

  • Best stand for MacBook Pro and Apple LED Display

I am buying a MacBook Pro and Apple LED Display tomorrow. I want to have a two display setup, similar to what I have seen in the Apple Store. I believe they used a Griffin Elevator. I want to make sure of two things: that the stand is sturdy enough so that my laptop won't slide off of it and that I can adjust the stand/monitor so that the tops are level (so that moving my mouse from the laptop to monitor and back is smooth - i.e. the cursor doesn't jump up or down.
I like the fact that I can use this setup to go mobile very quickly, but what about my direct Ethernet connection. I wish there were a stand/dock such that I could hook everything up to it and then just undock the entire machine.

How did you solve the problem of closing the Macbook Pro when it was connected to the display and preventing it from going to sleep?
I am thinking about buying one. When I went to the local Apple Store the tech guys told me that it would be necessary to keep the laptop open slightly when connecting it to the display. They said it was something to do with cooling. It didn't sound right to me. I'm sure that Apple didn't solely intend for the Cinema Displays to be used by Mac Pro and Mac Mini users.
There must be a simple way to "dock" or connect a Mac laptop (Macbook Pro or Macbook) to an Apple Cinema display or any other display with DVI input while keeping the laptop closed with an external keyboard and mouse connected and still be able to use the SuperDrive.
I'm very curious about how you handled this.
    All the best for now,
    Ambrose

is their any way i can redownload it??
or is their another solution ??

Is the movie still buffering? you may have a slow internet connection. Music files require far less bandwidth than movies.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Pixel Distorsion: MacBook Pro and 30" Cinema Display

Connecting the MacBook Pro to the Cinema Display using the Dual Link DVI Adapter (USB from Display plugged in Adapter, Adapter USB plugged in USB Port > not next to Mini-DVI Port) produced wild coloured Pixel Lines in the Dark Areas (really annoying) and starting After Effects CS4 it even gets worse: The full Interface is blinking green on the edges of each Panel.
    Pleeeaaaaase help!!

I have the same problem with my 30" HD display and the new 15" MBP. However, I did not have this problem initially. Until yesterday I had been fortunate not to experience issues (see reviews of the dual link adapter at the Apple store) regarding the 30" diplay. However, after contacting applecare about an unrelated issue, the technician had me restart holding the "shift" button. He said this would "correct a lot of stuff". Well it didn't seem to do anything except cause my 30" monitor to exhibit these same problems that everyone else is complaining about! Apple, please address this flaw!

  • Macbook Pro and 30" Cinema display for gaming?

Does anyone know if a Macbook Pro (17" i7 2010) would be powerful enough to drive the 30" Cinema display (or a Dell 30") specifically for gaming to a reasonable performance FPS with a game such as Call of Duty 4?
Would I have to knock down the resolution from the native 2560x1600 and if so is the image quality still acceptable or blurry? I realize I need either the dual link adaptor or the display port to achieve the max resolution but just wondering if it is asking too much of the graphics card?
Thanks in advance, any info much appreciated.
    Rick.

Hi. The graphics card will be able to handle it. I would suggest using a Min Display Port to HDMI adapter. Most new adapters will even transfer the sound too so you can use the speakers built speakers on the TV.
I often use my 2008 model MacBook Pro with a Mini Display Port to HDMI on my 62'' Samsung DLP. Perfect 1080p quality.

  • 15" (late 2008) macbook pro and 30" cinema display??

Im looking to buy one of the new macbook pros, and I know that you need the$100 dual link cable to get it to work with the older apple displays.
With that cable what is the max resolution I will get on a 30" cinema display?
The max res for the 30" is 2560 x 1600 pixels, but I have heard that you may not be able to get real high rez with the 15"
anyone know, I would appreciate the help....
    -bill

You'll get 2560 x 1600 - that's the max resolution of the display, and it's the max resolution of dual-link DVI (at least, at the standard refresh rate).

  • Have a new macbook pro and on the display there are 2 lines, one blue and one green on the left side.  Does anyone know what the problem is.  Happened after 2 weeks.

I just purchased a new macbook pro.  Have had it about 2 weeks.  Last night there were 2 thin lines that are on the left side of the desktop, 1 green and 1 blue from top to bottom.  This happened after I added a printer.  Anyone know what this is.  Fearing that is a flaw in the screen.

Sounds like a hardware problem.  You'll need to contact Apple ASAP.  Since it's so new, hopefully they will just replace it rather than making you go through the repair process, but that's up to them.

  • MacBook Pro (mid 2009), strange display problem

    Hello everybody,
This is my first post here, so thanks everybody who will read my post.
In February 2010 I bought two MacBook Pro 13 inch, for me and my girlfriend. Both of them are still working awesome, just one of them seems to develop a problem. I will try to detail it here, just that it's pretty strange even to explain.
When I look close to the screen, in seems that the colors in the images (web page elements, photos and so on) are not smooth (when changing from one color to other) rather they have very sharp edges. Next, when I look at the open menus (ex. the Apple menu in the left corner) it has some horizontal tiny lines. More, when I move the mouse over some elements (like the icons in the bar) some small square appears (like a net). I did reload the Mac and I was able to stop the same small squares over the Mac logo while booting. They are bearly visible, but for sure are there as I compare with the other Mac which has no such problems. This small squares net can be seem all over desktop and it seems that it flickers at around 2 seconds (there, not there, there...)
I know that it may be hard for you to understand, so later I will try to add a screen capture, if you don't understand my issue.
I do not have this issue if I connect an external monitor! So, I don't believe is from the graphic card / chipset.
If anybody encounter this kind of problems please give me an advice. Please consider the following:
    - I'm pretty good with technical stuff, so don't be shy to give technical details
    - I don't have Apple Care
    - I have been already to two authorized centres (I live in quite a small town in Austria); one told me that they will open in 3-4 months, the other told me that they can send it to Vienna, but it will take about a month and will be very expensive around 700-750 euro (aprox. 800-850$). How they know it will be expensive if they don't know the issue?!. I assume that they mean full replacement of the display, but in this case I would rather sell it for spare parts and buy a newer one
    - There is another authorized repairing centre at about 60 km from my city, I will try to make them a visit tomorrow, still I would glad if somebody can give me a hint.
    - As I extended the memory in my Mac (2GB to 4GB) I know the layout inside the unibody case, just if you want to tell me to check some cables (btw, this with the memory upgraded is the one working, the other one was never opened or technically touched in any way).
Thank you all  and have a nice day!

OK, if anybody is curious, here is the outcome. I took the device to an Apple authorized repairing center and they told me that the display it's the problem. I didn't get details (but I'll ask when I'll pickup my device) if the LCD was damaged, or some cables, but they said the whole display need to be replaced.
The prices (in Euro, but you can make the conversion)
    - the initial checkup and problem identification: 80 Euro (I have to pay this only if I choose not to repair the device at their service)
    - the repairing (display + work): 500 Euro
Not to happy to pay such an amount of money but what can I do?
Nevertheless I want to believe that this was somehow bad luck, as I have more than four Apple devices that run just fine.
    Best regards,
    Calin

  • HT203254 Macbook Pro 17inch (late 2008) display problem

    Hello,
I have a display problem with my Macbook Pro 17inch running on NVIDIA 8600M GT graphic cards.
The whole display screen pops up with vertical lines which makes the display colour faded and sometimes changes to colour yellow or red.
I tried with display reset by pressing Shift + Ctrl + Eject to solve this problem but it still happen.
So which is the problem, the graphic display (NVIDIA 8600M GT graphic card or my display screen?

  • Will my old isight camera work with my Macbook pro and HD Cinema display?

I have it hooked up but can't get the computer to switch from the built in camera to the external one.

Firewire iSights can be picky about how they are connected. My first suggestion for your particular trouble is to try connecting directly to one of your Mac's built-in FW ports rather than via the monitor's Firewire hub. More info:
      http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage6.html
If necessary, you can use the suggestions from How to test your (external) iSight to ensure it is functional to be sure it is working with your new Mac.
The solutions to your issues about switching from the built-in camera depends on which application you are using to operate your iSight. Here is how camera selection works in a few exampleS:
    (1) For iChat, you can choose which iSight you use in the "Camera:" choices bar in iChat > Preferences... > Audio/Video that appears when more than one compatible camera is connected. Although your camera choices will be different, the choices bar will look something similar to the Preferences settings shown here:
If you cannot see this choices bar, your Mac is recognizing only one (or none) of your iSights. In that case, consider the suggestions from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
This choices bar solution applies ONLY to iChat. Most other applications also have settings that allow you to choose which camera to use. However, they do not all work the same way.
    (2) For instance, iMovie HD's camera choice is NOT set via Preferences. When you have more than one compatible camera connected, iMovie uses a drop-down menu choice something like this (depending on which version of iMovie you use):
Note: Because I had no built-in iSight connected when I made this example, when my external iSight was disconnected, the drop-down menu showed only "Time Lapse." Because your Mac has a built-in iSight, your built-in iSight would show in the drop-down menu even when no other camera is connected. Connecting your external iSight should allow you to choose either camera.
iMove 8 (from iLife '09) uses a different camera choice button shown in this article:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/8.0/en/10172.html
In general, you can use your Mac's help for the application in use to find out how to select among more than one connected camera.
    (3) Photo Booth is a different matter. PB is such a simple, basic app that it offers no menu selectable choice. Unless you make your built-in iSight the camera being used by some open application before you launch Photo Booth, Photo Booth will use ONLY your built-in iSight.
However, you can use the trick from ¶ 4 of http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302781 to let Photo Booth use your Firewire external  iSight:
    • Connect your external iSight and turn it on.
    • Quit Photo Booth (PB) if it is running.
    • Launch any app with a user-selectable camera "Preferences..." menu command.
(The "tip" suggests that you use iChat, but others should work as well.)
    • Open "Preferences..." and set the camera "Preference" to use your built-in iSight.
    • Now launch PB. PB should now use the external iSight
because your built-in camera is in use by the other application.
    (4) For apps other than those above, see their Help or other documentation.
    (5) If you have specific questions, we will try to help, too.

  • The thunderbolt firmware 1.2 update keeps reappearing. I have a MacBook Pro and 2011 Thunderbolt display. Did not discionnect when upgrading to Yosemite (only read the instructions later). Thanks.

    Hi There,
I have a MacBook Pro (late 2011) and a Thundertbolt Display. I have recently upgraded to Yosemite. Since then Thunderbolt Firmware update 1.2 keeps reappearing and I cannot complete the update (with and without display connected etc.). Any advice? Thanks.

    Hello HTG65,
If the Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2: Keeps reappearing try reinstalling it following the steps in this article.
Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2: Keeps reappearing and Thunderbolt ports and Target Display Mode may not work - Apple Support
    To resolve this issue:
    Shutdown your computer.
    Disconnect all Thunderbolt devices.
    Wait 10 seconds.
If you are using a Mac mini with a Thunderbolt display, reconnect the Thunderbolt display directly to your computer via the Thunderbolt port. Do not connect other Thunderbolt devices at this time.
    Restart your computer.
If the Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2 is offered, download and install it and restart your computer when asked. If the Thunderbolt Update is not offered, the update has installed correctly.
    Reconnect all Thunderbolt devices.
    Take care,

In the Print and Scan Preference how many printers do you have installed? - one.
If only one which I assume is USB, try installing the Cannon as a network printer. - It doesn't specify that it is connected by USB. It says that it is "in use, Default". There is a tick in the box alongside "Share this printer on the network". Is there somewhere else that I need to access to install it as a network printer?
If you have already installed it as a network printer  open the print queue from the Print and Scan. Click on the Printer Menu and run Netwrok Diagnostics.
I entered the print queue but there is no option to click on Network Diagnostics because it is greyed out.

  • MacBook Pro and Sow Leopard video problem

When I connect MacBook Pro using Snow Leopard to LCD projector, the projected image is very problematic. Two symptoms. First, the video has a flicker to it. Second. menu lists have overlapping double and triple images so they cannot be selected accurately. The result is that demonstrations of sofware such as Final Cut pro cannot be done effectviely. Does this sound like a vieocard giving up and needing logic board replacement?

    Thanks for your reply.

  • I have a MacBook Pro and I'm having problems with it overheating, is there anything I can do to keep it cooled down?

I am a new Mac owner, and I'm currently stationed in Kuwait.  My MacBook gets super hot on the bottom and it's performance starts to degrade.  The weather here is in the mid 80's now, I can only imagine this problem will get much worse once the temps go above 100 in the near future.
