MacBookPro 10.10.2 problem

Hi
I seem to be experiencing the same problems as many other kernel_task overloading my computer.
I have tried this but it did not because my model MacBookPro9,2 were not included in the folder.
1. Go to the About this Mac under the apple in the upper left and click on More info
2. Click on System Report
3. Make a note of what it says after the Model Identifier
4. Go to your master drive - System -Library - Extensions - IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext -Contents - Plugins - ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext - Contents - Resources - Find the name from step 3 and move it to a folder That You Can find again if needed.
3. Restart
What should I do. It seems there are no guidelines from Apple themselves.

What do you expect us to see? There's nothing showing kernel_task overload, as you say. Not quite sure what that is in the first place.
If you wish us to diagnose or fix something for you, then you need to define what the problem is, and, if possible, provide some sort of evidence that demonstrates your issue.

Not that there are any real solutions but there is a thread dedicated to this exact problem:

It seems as though it is a hardware issue. You may try bringing the MacBook Pro to an Apple Store (depending on where you are.) Be sure to bring the picture that you have here.

  • Apple store changed the motherboard of my MacBookPro. Have now problems with many Itunes songs.

Got problems with my MacbookPro. The Apple store changed the motherboard. Have now problems with many songs in my Itunes library. Do not have access anymore because Itunes says that I am using more than 5 computers which is not true. How to resolve?

iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420 - and another helpful post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17828050
You will have to deauthorize all and then reauthorize specific computers.  Changing your motherboard has apparently made iTunes think you have a different machine.

  • MacbookPro w 2nd display problem

When I attach a second display to my MacBook Pro the screen goes dark after about 10 sec while I can continue to work on the second screen. Is that a hardware or settings problem? I have checked all display options, tried other monitors, mirroring etc. All the same. It even happens if I do not login.
    Thanks for any help.
MacBook Pro 15'', intel core duo, 2GHz, 2GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Sorry, I have not been clear enough I guess. The MacBook screen does not dimm but goes dark = is switched off about 5-10 seconds when a second monitor is attached. I cannot find a way to prevent that or get the screen to light up again. Only restart without the 2nd monitor attached brings the screen to life again. It happens when the computer is on battery or AC power. The energy saver setting is 1h!! It is an Apple monitor; the same happens when a Sony monitor is connected (different cable). If mirroring had been switched on I can work on the second monitor while the MacBook monitor is off. If mirroring is switched off the second monitor goes blue when the main screen turns black. Reboot is the only way to awake the machine.
    Any ideas?

  • MacBookPro ****. iPhoto (Time Machine) Problems

I took my MacBook Pro in to the Genius Bar and it was sent to the Depot for a new logic board.  I was told to use Time Machine to 'restore/reload' everything.  OK.  I did.
Then iTunes and iPhoto would not work.  Based on the error I got, I think what they loaded when they reloaded the OS was newer than what I had before their work (but still Snow Leopard - 10.6.8.)  So I checked for updates and about 8 or 9 things needed updating.  So I did.
Well, now I have two problems
iPhoto has lost *many* thumbnails.  (Everything else is '09 but iPhoto is now '11 for some reason.)  I'm trying to open GarageBand for the first time now.  (it's '11 now too.)  If I seem confused, it's because the paperwork for repair said that I  had '09.  I questioned this and was told that I was wrong, I didn't have iLife '11.  Perhaps I was right all along.
Anyway, I tried the Alt+cmd when opening and selecting the restore thumbnail options.  That DID NOT work.
I'm hesitant to try Time Machine again.
My Time Machine says that this backup was done on a different machine and do I want to use it.  (Of course, everything, iTunes, Facebook, etc thinks I am on a new computer.)  So I just declined to go any farther before I cause a bigger mess.
Please help me.  I have projects that I need the photos for and I need to back up while I am working on that and other things.
Does any one know what to do.  To get into this mess, it took 3 trips to the Genius Bar 15 miles and crazy traffic away and 2 calls to Apple Support.  Seems there isn't one Genius who is especially rounded and knows more than one area.  I need a fully functioning MacBook Pro in *all* areas.
Thank you to anyone that can help.

Please don't think people are ignnoring you.  If they are like me, they read your problem and were unable to come up with a solution to help you.  It may take a few hours or even a few days before someone comes along that can assist you.  I feel your pain, feeling completly helpless and anxiously awaiting a fix.  We do have very knowledgable Time Machine users in here.  What I can do is direct you to this website, created by a user in here who is one of those very knowledgeable about Time Machine. : http://pondini.org/OSX/Home.html.  I hope he or someone else comes along soon to help you. Good luck.

  • MacBookPro 15in power/battery problems

Well we have had this machine for 3 month. Purchased through educator program. When they sent it to us they included Office S/T edition without our consent. I already have a copy for my other 2 macs and did not need it. When returned, they sent us a Gift card for AppleStore, not good for Itunes. ***
Have been thru 1 battery replacement already (for a know bad batch of batteries) and they charged me to send a new one. Now Apple is saying that even though the original battery is part of bad batch, I can not return it for a refund. They want me to send it back and get a replacement.
New battery is not recognized by computer. Apple wants whole computer back so they can look at the logic board. They asked me to back upall data without first sending me a white paper on how to properly move all home files in osX. (my other 2 machines are still os9.3ish) So now i tried to move home folder to a cd and it wont give me permissions. When I dragged it back to the hard drive it overwrote home setting and I lost all my wedding pictures and Pics of my dog as a puppy. Waht a bunch of BS. I'm sure a human processed your order, so errors are inevitable. You say "included", not "added" did they really charge you for it?

Ok well this sounds like they "added" it and you were charged. Ok so it's not good for iTunes... that stinks that they messed up your order and it's not available on one "type" of product.
Keep in mind that you may be able to go to an apple store and purchase an iTunes gift card with your current Gift card. If not, apple offers a TON of apple branded and non apple branded software and peripherals that I'm sure could suit your needs.

Ok, Did you purchase your computer THROUGH APPLE? I know you mention that you got it through the educator program, but was it direct through apple, or a 3rd party? It's very strange that you'd have 2 big mess ups like that. The battery exchange program is quite clear that you will only be charged for a battery if you do not return the defect. Did you return the first defect? Have you called apple or gone to an apple store with receipts of the charges for your warranty products? You do not have to pay for your repairs, you are under warranty.

No offense, but it sounds like you made a mistake there backing up your information. Again, I don't know what that paper said, but by what you're saying it all still sounds wrong. Unless you did a "clean wipe" of the information - and didn't just "empty trash", it is still potentially retrievable by a professional. Technically unless you do a secure removal of the trash, no file is truly erased.
I don't know who you have been talking to, but with apple warranty repairs you are ENTITLED to a free backup of your information that you do not have to do yourself.
Now having I-pod problems with both 4g 20gig pods.
Wow you got some bad luck. Go into an apple store with all of your documentation and see if you can get some resolution to all of your problems.

  • 10.6.8 update screen freezing on macbookpro

Since I downloaded the 10.6.8 update combo, my macbookpro has frozen 3 times and required a reboot each time. Yes, I heard it happens in Lion but it is now happening in this new update. My macbookpro never had this problem before.

Same problem here with a MacBook Pro. I have the notebook connected to a Cinema Display and thus manually dimmed down completely my MacBook Screen. Now after updating to 10.6.8 my MacBook screen dimms up at the time when it would normally dimm it down if the screen was "enabled".
I tried several steps to fix that:
    - Dis- and reconnected my external Cinema Display.
    - Changed display and energy safer settings in system preferences.
    - Fixed file permissions.
    - Did a PRAM-reset.
    Nothing helped.
    Please help us!

  • MacBookPro 17'' 2009, frequent Crash/Freezes after regular shutdowns, etc.

    Hi everybody!
    My Situation:
    MacBookPro 17'' Mid 2009
    OSX: 10.6.7
    Boot Camp: 3.2
Windows (on Boot Camp): W7 Ultimate 64bit german SP1
all SW and drivers updated as far as possible.
Since almost after the start of using Windows 7 I experiences frequent Blue Screens restarting the computer into Windows, even after regular shutdowns, but mainly after Stand-bys and Power Save (Ruhezustand) status.
Recently the harddisk has been replaced, since the system was totally corrupted (even OSX was not any more startable). But I still have the same problems. :-(((
Sometimes Windows claims, that the BIOS has to be updated, somtimes it claims memory has to be checkedö sometımes other errors are presented. But memory checks shows no problems and there is no new SMC firmware version available by Apple for this 17'' edition since its release (SMC EFI 1.8).
After several, at least 5, total reinstallations of Mac OSX, updates to the latest versions, reinstallations of Windows 7 (by Boot camp), updtes t0 its latest editions (W7: SP1 and aditional udates, BootCamp for Windows 3.1 and then 3.2) there are no improvements, but a huge frustration :((((
The funny and even more frustrating thing is that exactly the same OS setup, but just running on a MacBookPro 13'', shows no problem at all?
So I wonder, if there are any others out there experiencing aquivalent misbehaviors and if there are really not any updates available for the SMC firmware?
I would appreciate any kind of responses, even, if you are only able to complain the same bad experiences at least, since so far, I got no real answers despite several visits at Apple's Genuis Bar.
    Please Help!

It is strange the both computers exhibit the same behavior, so I would think it would be something installed on both. I don't know what it could be, though.
    Bootcamp shouldn't be causing that.
Create a new user on one of the machines and operate out of that login. See if the problem persists. If it doesn't recur, then we can isolate the problem to your user accounts and not the system itself.
Does a crash report get generated? Look in the Console app. Check the Diagnostic and Usage Messages. Also, look down through the list of logs and see if there is anything for CrashReporter or Hangreporter. Look for anything with Finder. I'm not sure what to look for in the logs. If you find one that occurred because of a crash you are talking about, then copy it and post here.
Edit: Also look for crashlogs for the programs that are crashing. I hooked in on the save dialog, tying it to Finder, but it is more likely tied to the app itself.

  • FCE 4 Problem: Color bar thru the Viewer

I just upgraded to FCE4 and have found two annoyances already....
1)I get a horizontal color bar running thru the middle of the image in the viewer. It's mostly an aqua color but there are shades of other colors in it (which vary from image to image). Is this some sort of new feature or is something wrong here. I sure can't see (or imagine) any purpose to it. I did two installs -- on an iMac and a MacBook Pro -- and the problem is only showing up on the iMac.
    2) The controls seem very different... In 3.5 you could right click on a clip to cut it from the timeline. Can't do that now. Are the controls really that different from 3.0 & 3.5, or is this another glitch?
As long as I'm asking questions... Anyone got a good text/manual to recommend? It's feeling like I need to re-learn how to use FCE. I wouldn't have expected an upgrade to be so different from the earlier version (eg, right clicking to cut and paste clips should have stayed unchanged, in my book).
Thanks for any help you care to offer..

    Tom,
Thanks for your response. Here's a screenshot...
    http://bp3.blogger.com/_GjFJqLYOsHk/SFkdJVij1wI/AAAAAAAAAB4/THLT-fZ41v4/s1600-h/ Picture+1.png
I've also deleted FCE4 from the HD (also deleting the plist file and the project file) and reinstalled it; after importing the same files, I get the same result. Other things I've noticed...
    1) If I import the same files into FCE4 on my MacBookPro I have no problem.
    2) Once I drop the file from the Viewer onto the timeline, and then re-open it in th Viewer from the timeline, the color bar is gone.
    3) The color bar is not showing up in the Canvas or the icons on the Timeline.
    4) If I import the same files into FCE 3.5.1, I have no problem. (BTW, I'm back to using 3.5.1 until I receive my copy of your book.)
So the imported files are not corrupt; the problem is somewhere else. Or maybe I'm just missing something obvious (well, it'd have to be less than obvious).
Thanks for any thoughts you may have,
    Seismo

  • Finder Doesn't Launch on Start Up

My MacBookPro has recently had problems with the power adapter and battery. Since this morning (25 November), the Finder does not launch at start up. That is, the desktop appears after a slightly longer than usual start-up time, but nothing appears on my desktop--neither the Hard Drive, nor any of my other files on the desktop--and the tool bar at that should appear at the top of the screen doesn't. The dock will appear at the bottom of the screen, but none of the programs will launch.
My battery is as old as my computer, about four months shy of three years. In the past month, the metal inside the power cord running from the block of the adapter to the computer seems to have burned apart where the cord enters the block (the insulation has not, however, burned away). Since I won't have the money to replace this until next month, I've used electrical tape to keep the cord close to the block. The battery's life has deteriorated, according to CoconutBattery, to about %80 of its original capacity. Also, in the past week I've noticed an electrical buzz when the AC was plugged in, and I was running my computer, but the batter would not charge (it would only charge when the computer was shut down, though the buzz continued).
Are the problems with my power and malfunctioning finder related? Is it more important to replace the power adapter than the battery, or must both be replaced at the same time? Is there anyway to get the Finder to work again without doing reinstalling OS Leopard? Could my computer need a new internal hard drive (I was able to run disk utility from the OS System disk, and it recognized the usual amount of space used and available on the hard drive)? I will be in Jerusalem, Israel until June 2009. Should it be necessary, will I be able to receive face-to-face support here?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Why are my iCal events not the same across views?

Help!  I've been editing my iCal in Month view and everything looks great... but then I look at the day view (or week, whatever) and it's not the same.  For example, in Month view for July 2 - I have one event scheduled from 8:30-noon.  Then I look at the day view... and there are 8 different events!  Most of them duplicates of different things that I had at one time or another deleted or changed.  Why didn't the "clean up" work that I did in the month view carry over to day or week view?  In fact the opposite, there are more things in day or week views than I ever created.
Recently upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard.  Recently changed from mobileme to iCloud.  I only have iCal set to my iCloud account (no "on my mac" iCal calendar data). So the problem I see when editing on my MacBookPro is also seen when logged into iCloud directly via Safari and on my iPhone, iPad, etc.  At first I thought this was an iCloud syncing error because I only noticed the difference on my phone (list view)... but when I went back to my MacBookPro I realized the problem exists there too... so doesn't seem to be a syncing error, but rather a "view" error... then the "problem" is mirrored everywhere.
I've tried "refresh" and "refresh all" from the Calendar drop down menu.  This does nothing to help the problem... not that I really expected it would.
Thanks for any help you can provide.  I'm going crazy!
    Mac OS X 10.7.4; iCal 5.0.3

Fixed my own problem.  Ultamately a user error but tied to the many threads about the month view defaulting events to "all day" vs. hourly increment.  I knew that was the case, so when editing events from month view I made sure to add/change the time, but negected to look at "To" date.  If my event was for an hour, simply adding the hour pushed the day to span across dates so the event was really 25 hours.  Looked OK in the month view (just showed as a dot) but the day and week were all filled and casued the event to appear twice on the second day in list view (iPhone).  In the case of repeat events, sometimes "To" date ended up as the end date for the repeat cycle... which really messed every thing up... I believe causing what looked like duplicates, etc.

  • When sending an e-mail I used to just click on contacts then click on the name or group I wanted to send the e-mail to and move it to the "To" area of the e-mail.  All of a sudden I now get a full screen in "contacts" and can no longer move a name .

    MacBookPro 15
    OS - Yosemite
    Problem area - "Contacts"
Problem - when sending an e-mail in "Mail" I used to open contacts to get an address.  A small window opened, I clicked on addressee and moved the addressee name to the e-mail.  Can no longer do this because I now get a full screen in Contact.
Question - how do I get back to the small window in Contact?

    Mike,
Are any of your other applications going wonky, or is it just Logic?
I'm afraid I've never heard of this particular problem before, but if it were happening to me the first thing I would do is delete my "com.apple.logic.express.plist" file in Library>Preferences, then repair permissions in Disc Utility, and finally restart my computer.  Then I would launch Logic and see if the problem has been corrected.  It's amazing how much these two steps can accomplish.
If that doesn't resolve the issue I would launch Logic and go to Preferences>Audio Units Manager to see if all my plug-ins are properly validated.
