Magic mouse not clicking

My magic mouse suddenly stopped being able to click on my iMac. It pairs via Bluetooth, the cursor moves, the icons in the Dock respond when the cursor moves over them, but nothing happens when the mouse is clicked. I took it to the Apple store nearby and it worked fine on the technician's laptop so it's an issue with the iMac I assume. I upgraded to Yosemite hoping it would solve the issue but it did not. I've zapped the PRAM and still no clicking.
My next step is to remove system files that relate to the Magic Mouse but I'm not sure which ones to trash...any guidance here?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
If it's under warranty you can either bring it to an AASP or call AppleCare at 800-275-2273. You don't need to bring it into a store if you don't have one in your area.

Roger

  • Right click on Magic Mouse not working

    Hi
I am having this right click problem with my magic mouse.  The right click function just suddenly stopped working two days ago.
I have checked the Mouse>Preference> Secondary click is enabled to "Right"
However, when I changed the secondary click to "Left", the "right click" function works perfectly fine w/ the left click, but when I change it back to "Right" nothing happens.  I even tried unchecking the secondary click function (someone said that will work in another support site) but that doesn't help either.
I have tried removing batteries from my mouse, turning it off, turning bluetooth off, restarting the laptop...
Very confused right now.  Please help!!

The post is a month old now, but I did stumble upon it after I suddenly lost my "Magic Mouse" right click functionality.  Just as posted my; Mouse>Preference> Secondary click was enabled to "Right", though it would not work...
I tried everything including; restart iMac, enable and disable "Secondary Click", disconnecting the Mouse bluetooth and reconnecting it using my Magic Trackpad, etc.... until this ended up being my solution:
I went into System Preferences, Mouse>Preference> and disabled "Secondary click".  Then restarted the system.  Then returned to System Preferences, Mouse>Preference> and re-enabled Secondary Click.  That worked and was my solution and has been working fine since yesterday.
I hope this helps anyone who encounters the same as we have.

  • Magic mouse right click problem in Mountain Lion

    Hi!
My Magic mouse right-click doesn't work in Mountain Lion! in previous OSes it was working properly (Leopard and Lion), but when I upgrated to Mountain, this problem occured.
if you click anywhere on the magic mouse, it simply do a click, not a right-click anyway...
I did a lot of searches and changes but the problem is still alive...
somewhere suggested disabling "Secondary Click", then restart, and then enabling it. but nothing changed...
somewhere suggested to remove two files named "com.apple.Bluetooth..." in /Library/Preferences, and then restart the system, but this not worked for me, too...
I changed the "Secondary Click" to "Click on the left side" but nothing changed and the magic mouse did just clicking and not right-clicking!
I wondered what can I really do to solve this problem?!
    any suggestion is appreciated...

I still use the magic-mouse and still it's not stable. I've found theONLY way to overcome the rightclick is to make sure that you're NOT pressing anywhere else on the mouse (even touching) and only pressing at theTOP right-hand most corner.
It's not the best resolution, but the best that Applecare could provide me with. I thinjk, because it's relatively new due to the new generation of capacitive touch devices that we all get the bugs/flaws.
As like the iPhone, although an EXCELLENT device, and the various versions of OSX, we're going to be plagued eith bugs until a newer review comes out.
The way I found out was to use BOTH tools (MagicPrefs and BetterTouchTool) together, and in both set the Rightclick sensitive area to a near nothing for system wide (non app specific).
It does fail at times on some apps, and takes a few clicks, but 90% of the time it's cleared up.
I somehow think that most developers (and yes its the developers not apple) that forget that we rest out palms on the mouse) and they don't filter out the events forrectly (i.e. a palm on the mouse is seen as a tap). Othere works well, for exmaple I use photoshop, which adapted well to the mouse. The majority of games, and including those (ESPECUALLY THOSE) flash mbased, don't like the mouse at all!

  • Magic Mouse not not able to open folders or files

Magic Mouse not able to open folders or files on desk top. I can drag folders around but not able to open either with a double or single click of the mouse.
Tried an older BT mouse with same effect.
    Command O works fine.

    Hey there kwilli2,
It sounds like your mouse left click is not functioning correctly. I have a couple of things to recommend and see what might be happening. First check in the Universal Access preferences pane to see if either, the double click speed is set to high.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Universal Access.
Click the Mouse & Trackpad tab.
For Magic Mouse, click Mouse Options to show these slider controls:
Adjust the sliders to your preference for double-click and scrolling speeds.
From: Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse: How to adjust double-click and scrolling speed in Lion
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4930
If lowering the double click speed does not resolve the issue, I would next try these troubleshooting steps in this article named:
Troubleshooting wireless mouse and keyboard issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3048
Mouse buttons do not work as expected.
The Mouse preference pane allows users to customize the mouse features to meet their needs.
Choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu, then choose Mouse from the View menu. Set the Tracking slider to adjust how fast the pointer moves as you move the mouse.
Try using a different surface to see if the tracking improves.
Turn the mouse over and inspect the sensor window. Use compressed air to gently clean the sensor window if dust or debris is present.
If multiple Bluetooth wireless devices are in use nearby, try turning them off one at a time to see if the issue improves. Bandwidth intensive devices could affect tracking.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • Magic Mouse Middle Click in Windows 7 64-bit Bootcamp?

Any ideas?, I found something (link below) but I'm not sure if its safe.
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/26184/magic-mouse-middle-click-in-windo ws-7-64-bit-bootcamp

That looks relatively safe but quite impractical in the long run.
I'm looking to achieve something similar, getting the middle click button to work, since it would be very useful through general productivity in terms of web browsing as well as for gaming such as Minecraft (building).
Anyone got any ideas as to how to achieve this? I know it's not possible to get this functionality in OS X without some third-party tool such as MagicPrefs, but surely it should be possible in Windows.
    Thanks.

  • Magic mouse rt click stopped working

My magic mouse right click is not working. I have looked and the box is checked in the preferences but still not RT click. Please advise

    Hi there
Yes the preferences does not help with this issue I have done everything to get my right click back but no joy. Until now this is a kind of fix for it. If you go to google and search magicprefs it is a free download and it basically lets you pick and choose what your mouse gestures  does for you when you swipe ,click and tap your mouse thus you can click on the right mouse gesture and voila you have right click back.
Hope that is a help I know how frustrating it has been.

Does the magic mouse not have the feature of viewing all open pages on the desktop like you do when you use the side buttons of the wired mouse?

No, you'll have to use Mission control for that.  It's either located on the dock, the F3 key on recent laptops on a swipe on the trackpad.

  • Magic mouse scrolling, clicking, but NOT tracking

Magic mouse, about a year old, stopped tracking recently. Its bluetooth connection is there just fine, is discoverable etc. Its power light shows (the little green one). It scrolls, clicks, right-clicks. But it doesn't track. The light sensor area under the mouse doesn't show a red light when I flip it over.
Sounds like a hardware failure yes?
What to do - visit the geniuses?

You won't see the laser light, it's not visible to the eye. Try cleaning the laser sensor/transmitter with a Q-tip and insure you have good batteries.

  • Magic mouse right click not working

am i the only one? after downloading the latest os x updates, i'm unable to do any secondary click (right / left) with the magic mouse...tried everything via internet trouble shooting & even spoke with apple support...i have an appointment with their genius bar but there must be a way??? any advice apple fam? thanks.

No, you are not alone. I had exactly that situation with my magic mouse on my 27 inch iMac after the recent update of Yosemite.
I assumed it must be the mouse - just over a year old, so surprising.
But searching this forum I found the helpful posts suggesting deleting the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file from Preferences. (Use Finder to go to your hard drive, open Library/Preferences and look down the long list of files to find com.apple.Bluetooth.plist. Drag a copy to your desktop, just to be safe. Then delete it from the Preferences. Restart your Mac and the file will be recreated.)
It's surprising that Apple staff aren't aware of this.

  • Magic Mouse Right click menus not working

Just got a magic mouse (using 10.5.8) and when I right click on a dock icon, the menu comes up (ie empty trash) however I cannot (left) click any of the choices and the menu freezes. I have to right click the desktop to snap out of it. This is happening for all icons/menus. Anyone know of this issue? All other mouse functions (swiping, scrolling etc...) seem to be working. Regular right click functions work, it's just this menu issue.
    thanks

First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
If not then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • Apple Magic Mouse--right click not working, left-right scroll not working

Brand new out of the box, right click does not work and neither do the left-right swipe. Is it likely I have a faulty mouse, or is there a software update or setting I have failed to find? Running 10.6.4 on brand new MacBook Air. Experts--help please

I have the same issue.  My magic mouse is only about a year old and i honestly don't use it that often... it seems to me the right click is not "connecting" well as i have to click several times or very hard to get it to make a clicking sound.  not sure if its stiff or broken or not.
Overall I'm pretty frustrated as this thing was EXPENSIVE.
Any ideas how to fix it?

  • Magic mouse double click not operating. With iMac 24" and 10.6.8 bluetooth cannot discover the mouse and spins for ever, but mouse was working OK until 2 weeks ago. Now double click does not work, have to go to menu to open messages etc.. A nuisance.

Magic mouse is not discovered by bluethooth software, but it worked OK until 2 weeks ago (10.6.8 and iMac 24). Now the double clik does not open messages, I must go to the file menu to do it. A nuisance. Closing a file takes exactly 2 or 3 seconds! Any idea? Mouse and batteries are OK and checked by retailer. Please help.

    Also using iMac 10.6.8
My magic mouse works ok but I am getting the same message from Mouse prefs that no mouse is “discovered” and the progress gear spins forever. For the time being, at least, my mouse functions as expected.
I have trashed mouse prefs and rebooted, but that did not solve the problem.

  • Magic Mouse Right Click not responding

Merry Christmas All! Just this morning my magic mouse (2 months old) stopped right clicking. When I press on the right side of the mouse, it doesn't right click or even "normal" click. I double checked my mouse settings in Preferences and "Secondary Click" is set to "Right" and the box is checked. Mouse battery shows at 56%.
The only thing that is different is that I bought an Apple wireless keyboard two days ago...could that somehow be interfering? Beyond that, I am stuck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...and will give you some points on Santa's nice list.

I have a similar problem: the symptoms are the same, but when I reboot the Mac it solves. The problem is that I always leave the iMac on and so I need to reboot it every 2 days because of the mouse has this symptoms (I don't have any other USB Overdrive or tablet.. only Apple bluetooth magic mouse and keyboard).
Do anyone has my same problem and/or can help me, please?
    Thanks very much!
