Magic Mouse repeatedly loses connection

Just wondering if anyone else out there has experienced this issue, and perhaps have a fix for it.
I am using a Magic Mouse with my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.6.8) and have experienced periods where the mouse loses its connection every few moments.  I've conducted multiple searches online, and it looks like I am not alone in this. The batteries in my mouse are brand new (in fact, the problem began immediately after I replaced the batteries).
Several users have recommneded fixes that involve trashing certain preferences, and then restarting. I've experienced some degree of success with these remedies in the past, but nothing seems to be fixing my current connectivity issues. Sometimes it will go for months without incident, and then start up out of nowhere.
Does anyone out there have a fix for this? It's made getting work done all but impossible. Any insight would be greatly apprciated. Thanks!

Hello:
If the mouse has failed/is failing, none of this will help, of course.
Reset the SMC.
Reset the PRAM.

My wireless mouse often loses connection. I replace batteries and it works for a few days before becoming problematic again. Battery currently shows 100% and connection is lost intermittently. Bluetooth is on and wireless keyboard works. Any suggestions?

Is it possible that you have a bad bunch of batteries?
My Magic Mouse on one computer and the Mighty Mouse on another use batteries I bought through the Apple store (with a charger). They last a long time.

Another possiblity is that the mouse is defective. Since the keyboard connects, it has to be the mouse or the batteries.

  • Mouse & trackpad lose connectivity

The mouse & trackpad lose connectivity whilst in use for no apparent reason.
Installed fresh batteries in each device with no effect & connection drops out whilst using.
Have both devices turned on/operating at same time.

Further to above action , checked with iStudio who advised not to have other devices, such as iPhone or iPad nearby as can cause interference.
    Did following:
    - moved phone & iPad away
    - uninstalled mouse & reinstalled
Seems to have improved operation though the problem still occurs.
Will put Mouse in for service check as still under warranty.

  • Why does my Magic Mouse keep losing connection?

I've had my Magic Mouse for about 6 months now. I use it with my MacBook Pro RD. It works fine most of the time but every now and then it would lose connection for anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. This happens even with newly replaced batteries so I know it's not a battery problem. I really expected better from what I thought would be a high quality mouse from Apple.
I am thinking of sending it back to be repaired or something, but when I entered its serial number to check the warranty status, I get the error "We're sorry, but this serial number is not valid. Please check your information and try again." In fact, the serial number printed on my mouse's battery compartment has 17 characters but the support page here only allows you to enter a 14-character serial number! What is going on?

I was having the same problem and found another thread with the solution. Basically the problem is some batteries do not fit tightly in the compartment and jiggle around causing the mouse to lose power and therefore the connection. The solution is either buy the apple rechareable batteries or wedge a piece of paper in between the batteries and the compartment lid (I used a bit on an index card fold over on itself). Once I did that = no more lost connection every 10 minutes.
The thread I'm referring to is here:

  • Apple magic mouse keeps losing connection with Macbook pro

I have a 2012 macbook pro, after upgrading to Mavericks(10.9.1, not have any other 3rd party software, just pure OS X), my magic mouse always losing bluetooth connection suddenly every one or two days. When losing connection, I found the bluetooth chipset type showing in macbook system information changed to unkown (FFFF). I have contacted with apple global support, and also have not gotten the solution. Just cleaning cache, and ect. but still didn't work.
When I downgrading the OS X to 10.8.5 Mountain Lion, same macbook, same magic mouse, work very well. Never happened lose connection issue during one and a half month.  So, it should be a Mavericks bluetooth driver's issue, or something reletived.
Any body have some good idea in solving this issue?
    Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem with a 2007 MacBook Pro on Snow Leopard. As soon as I changed the mouse's batteries, it started losing connection every few seconds. The mouse came with Energizer batteries originally - they supposedly don't fit well, but the mouse worked fine. I exchanged them with Duracell, which gave problems. Now I have Varta batteries installed, they give problems too. The paper-trick doesn't work for me.
Quite franky, I think it's rediculous that a fancy €69,- wireless mouse is so fussy about batteries. It's impossible to work with it. Is this just another way for Apple to get people to buy their batteries? I think a mouse this expensive should accept any and all batteries. Please, Apple: fix it. Seems like a really simple matter. Just put longer and stronger springs in the contacts for the negative poles.
    Thanks.

  • Magic Mouse Can't connect to my Macbook Air mid 2013

    Hello,
    Can anyone help me please?
Well, I have Macbook Air 13 inch Mid 2013 and it is connected to the internet by thunderbolt to Ethernet cable, i have also iphone 6 plus and i'm sharing internet from my macbook, however, recent days it does not connect, i mean, when i'm sharing internet my magic mouse connects to the macbook and disconnects after 2-3 seconds. i tried to repair the  the disc from disk utilities, it started to work properly and then it stopped.  Now when i closed my wi-fi, magic mouse started working properly. when i open it and started internet sharing, it is closing...  Please help if you can )))

Since Bluetooth and wifi is on the same 2.4Ghz frequency, using both at the same time, with the wifi chip constantly on (when creating a wifi network)(whereas when using the wifi as a receiver, the wifi chip isn't stressed much), causes interference. It is "normal". It's just that the Bluetooth technology is not very smart. This issue was already seen 16 years ago, when bluetooth got introduced.

  • Magic Mouse will not 'connect' to iMac

I have a 27" iMac with wireless Magic Mouse, both purchased in November2009. My keyboard is USB.
Todaywhen I started the iMac, it would not 'connect' with the mouse. I resorted to a USB mouse to open Mouse Preferences and got a window that indicates the iMac is searching for a Bluetooth mouse, but "No mouse found".
I have new batteries in the mouse and the green light shows it is working; however, the preferences do not allow the battery status to be shown since the iMac is not 'connected'.
To confirm the batteries are indeed OK, I connected the mouse to my Mac Book, and the mouse works fine with the Mac Book -- shows the batteries to be 100%.
What could be the reason the iMac does not recognize the mouse?

    Hello:
I see you are OK now.
You might want to make the mouse a favorite.
Please mark the thread solved, so that others will not bother to read it to see if thay might help.

  • Magic Mouse still not connecting on Bootcamp 3.1 with Windows 7

I had windows 7 ultimate x64 running on Bootcamp the last few months and was thrilled to see that the last update would work with my shiny new magic mouse.
To my disappointment it didn't. I tried reinstalling the update (x64 version of it) a few times, and manually deleting the drivers related to bluetooth and mouse from the control panel so it would make a clean reinstall, but without any luck... I followed every instruction, rebooted a zillion times and still nothing.
It detects the mouse on bluetooth devices, it even knows it's mine (has my name on it), but keeps on trying to connect forever...
    Anybody has this problem?

    All,
Here's how I got it to work:
Go to Device Manager > Bluetooth Radios > Generic Bluetooth Adapter
Right click > Update Driver Software > "Browse my computer for driver software" > "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
    Uncheck "Show compatible hardware"
Under Manufacturer select > "Apple Inc."
Select the "Apple Built-in BluetootDFU" and click "Next" a bunch of times.
Then, go to the Bluetooth Icon in the system tray or in the control panel. Turn off the Magic Mouse before you try to discover the device. It should do it's thing automagically and come right up after you turn the Magic Mouse back on.
At least these are the steps that worked for me.
The problem I'm seeing is that the mouse stops responding if you're not constantly moving it. I'm going to try the different Bluetooth adapters from "Apple Inc." to see which one works best.

  • Magic Mouse no Longer connects via BT

    Hello All!
I have a MBP, 2.4GHz with Intel Core 2 Duo and recently upgraded to OSX 10.8.
Since the upgrade I have been having great difficulty in getting my Magic Mouse to connect via BT.
Previous to the upgrade everything worked fine, the mouse would wake the computer and connect with out any issues.
After the upgrade the mouse will not wake the computer and will only connect after I restart the computer, well that was yesterday restarts today aren't even working any more.  My BT keyboard works fine and I have no problems with waking or connecting via the BT keyboard only the mouse.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
    Update:
I just finished repairing Disk Permissions - No Help
Turning Blue Tooth off then back on - No Help
Trying to manually connect the mouse - no help
    New Batteries - no help
Reset the SMC - no help
Reset the PRAM - no help

I'm now on 10.8.2 and things seem to be better but not completely resolved.  After installing the last update I deleted my mouse, restarted the computer and then paired the mouse again.  Things are much better, my mouse will wake the computer now but only if the computer is asleep for a 'short' period of time.  Overnight it won't wake or connect, I generally need to use the track paid, go to the BT icon & select my mouse then hit connect.  That seems to get things going but it's still a pain.......
At least I don't have to restart the computer every time.....

  • My magic mouse won't connect to Yosemite 10.10.2 I've tried 2 different mice with the same outcome.

I have an early 2013 MBP with Yosemite 10.10.2. Connectivity with the magic mouse has steadily gotten worse, now it won't connect at all. I've tried connecting with two different mice, one about 5 years old and one about 2 years old, both with the same result. Any one else have this issue?

  • Apple Magic Mouse won't connect

I have a magic mouse and it won't connect to my macbook pro retina display. I dont know where there is a file i need to delete and if i need to do that where and how do I find it. Thank you.

Be sure Bluetooth is turned on.
Has the mouse been connected to something else?  If so, it needs to be deleted from that device first.

how do i connect magic mouse to bluetooth on imac?

  • My magic mouse won't connect automatically anymore...

I'm not sure where this fits, so I decided to post it here.
Anyways, I've had my iMac since early January and it came with the Magic Mouse. It's been working fine up until 20 minutes ago when it disconnected itself. So, I turned it off and turned it back on and it wouldn't connect! Now, if I want it to connect, I have to plug in a different mouse so that I can manually click "Connect".
This has never happened before and I don't know why it's started now. I've tried un-pairing and re-pairing the mouse but that didn't solve the issue either. Anyone know the solution?

I have the same problem here. It started a few days ago and so far no luck fixing it. I am going to try a different Magic Mouse and see if that works. I will report back when I get a chance to try it.

  • Magic Mouse Won't Connect!

I had a magic mouse that worked perfectly. I have had it since it came out. For some reason, my mac changed the Time Machine hard drive to a different one, so I deleted what had saved to the wrong hard drive, and changed where it should back up. It would not delete, so I reinstalled Snow Leopard like I was told. Then, my bluetooth magic mouse stopped working. I tried to reconnect with the "find bluetooth mouse" but that didnt work, so I tried deleting it as a pair with my computer and tried again. Still nothing. Then I searched for any bluetooth device. Nothing. I searched for the "wireless mouse software 1.0" but once the snow leopard version downloaded, it said there was an error with my hard drive. I tried the Leopard version, and it said that a newer version was installed on my computer already. I am currently using the latest version of snow leopard with an iMac with intel. What do I do?

Turn the mouse off. Turn the mouse on. You should see the green light start blinking on the mouse by the switch.
Wait a couple of seconds, then click the mouse.
If it doesn't connect automatically, go to the Bluetooth preferences. Delete your mouse from the left panel, if it's there. Press + to open the Assistant, and click the mouse again. Is the mouse detected?
