Magic mouse takes over other laptop in room

When someone else is using wireless magic mouse on their MacBook, it takes over my G4 laptop cursor when in the same area. MacBook is Snow Leopard Intel machine, G4 is older and running OS X 10.4.11.

Delete the Bluetooth pairing for the Magic Mouse on the G4 laptop in the Bluetooth system preferenves pane.

  • Magic Mouse only works with laptop open

I bought the Magic Mouse so I could wirelessly awaken my laptop while it was closed and connected to the television.
It worked for months. Now when I awaken the laptop with the mouse it turns on for one second and then turns off.
The mouse works perfectly fine with the laptop open and using the television as a "second monitor". It no longer works how I prefer it with the laptop closed (it's much better because then the sound comes through the TV and not the laptop speakers).
    Why did this suddenly happen?

    Hello Siôn Dafydd,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you are using an external display with your MacBook Pro and when you close the display on your MacBook Pro, the second display turns off. It sounds as though your MacBook Pro may not be connected to power while using with display closed. Please read over the attached article for information on using a second display in closed-clamshell mode.

  • Magic mouse loses connection with laptop unless laptop connected to charger

So, I've been seeing people have various problems with the Magic Mouse in Lion, but I haven't seen anyone with the exact problem as me. I lodged it as a bug with Apple, but I wondered if anyone has the same problem and maybe a solution.
I have an original MacBookAir and a Magic Mouse. Since upgrading to Lion, the Magic Mouse will only stay steadily connected to the laptop if I have the laptop plugged in and on the mains charger. If I am running the laptop on battery, the mouse disconnects and becomes unusable.

  • Can I connect my Magic Mouse to my Dell Laptop?

I bought a new laptop from Dell a couple months back and i have a USB mouse to go with it. My Mom liked the USB mouse better than the magic mouse so we switched. I was able to connect the magic mouse to my laptop but the scroller wouldn't work. So i tried turning the mouse off and back on again. After I did this the magic mouse could no longer be found by the laptop and yes it is on discovery mode. For those wondering my which laptop i have it is a Dell Inspiron 15r.

Ok I have giten it to connect again by removing it from the laptop and adding it again. Now I need to solve the no scrolling problem

  • Magic Mouse Issue (video) other then known lag problem

    Hi,
I have a big issue with the magic mouse.
It's better that you just watch the video.
Makes it a lot easier then explaining it.

The mouse does not do any scrolling etc, only left + right click.

  • Magic Mouse takes 2 - 4 secs to react on scrolling

    Hi there!
Oftentimes, my Magic Mouse does not react to scrolling (up/down) gestures in a scrollable window, in apps as well as webpages, until I have made those gestures for at least a couple seconds. Feels like it falls asleep on me. Far from always, just often enough to be annoying. Any ideas what that's about, and how to resolve it?
    Best regards, Ole

    Hi Barry!
Actually, I did not at that time, because this issue has been present with my earlier MacBook as well as now with my new one, and I have made the reset previously due to other issues. But I did it just now, just in case it makes a difference this time.
How do I set the mouse as favorite?

  • Magic Mouse piar with other devices

I'm assuming there is little I can do about this but we have 3 iMac's with Magic Mice and two of the mice are occasionally pairing with one of the computers rather than the two machines they were set up with. Is there a way of stopping this from occurring as it can be very frustrating?
The iMac in question has been formatted since it was first paired with the mouse and keyboard, and the problem tends to occur once the machines have been locked and the mice have been switched off and required to re pair with a device.

I would love to come to Apple and design a mouse for them, What's up with Apple and their mice? Industrial design or product design needs to more than making something that looks really cool, nice, attractive, etc. It needs to work well for the intended purpose. There are three problems with this mouse, 1) the touch area is the entire surface therefore accidental scrolling happens all the time. Most annoying in a video game where for example the weapon you are using keeps changing or on a web page when you you move the mouse and the window jumps. Or in Google street view where the scene will jump back to a position while trying to move the view, or especially in Cinema4D where zooming in and out is totally whacked, Photoshop as well. Basically anywhere where scrolling is used. A possible solution might be to limit the area of the touch sensitive surface to just the middle front area rather than the entire surface, a software solution where the user can define the area that is touch sensitive.
Secondly, I am wondering if I can take a file and round of the sharp edge around the top, is it plastic? Will I destroy it? A basic design principle especially for a mouse should be to make it comfortable to use over extended periods of time. The sharp edge makes it very uncomfortable after a short while of use.
Next we have the overall shape which pushes the baby finger out enough to cause it some strain, most mice have this feature.
It is also a bit on the heavy side. Needs to be a little lighter.
So wrap it up, my three suggestions: 1)make it lighter 2) round off the edge for gods sake and 3) limit the touch sensitive area to an area that is user defined.

  • Adobe 9 takes Over Other Applications once installed

Since I tried and failed to install some non-compatible software(not Adobe) on my Vista laptop, Adobe 9 has failed to work. In fact, it has taken over my other applications such as Explorer & Media player. The Laptop thinks these applications are Adobe related & tries to open them with Adobe. It does not give me the option to Open with another program and the file associations have not changed. What has changed is that the Target type of these applications has changed from "Application" to "EXE" and the icons change to the Adobe picture. I uninstalled Adobe to rectify the problem, but now I cannot install Adobe without the same thing happening.Have I deleted an important file from the Vista system which is vital for Adobe use? The upshot is I cannot read any PDFs for the forseeable future. Also, I cannot use system restore as I left it too late & my ideal restore point has gone.
    Stand alone laptop/Vista home premium.

try this is you are comfortable working in the Registry. Your settings for exe files need to be re-established:
    1. Launch Notepad by clicking on Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad
    2. Enter the following into Notepad:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 6.00
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe\OpenWi thList]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe\OpenWi thProgids]
    "exefile"=hex(0):
    3. Click on the File Menu and select Save As
    4. From the Save as Type drop down select All Files
    5. Change the File Name to Exe.reg
    6. Save the file to the Desktop and then close Notepad.
    7. Double-click the Exe.reg file. Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, enter the password or provide proper confirmation.
    8. Click Yes, and then click OK in response to the registry prompts.
    9. Restart your Computer
    10. You should be sure to delete the Exe.reg file after resolving this issue.

  • Magic Mouse takes iMac off sleep

Not sure where this goes, there's no section or might mouse on the forums.
Every time I turn my computer to sleep it almost always instantly comes back off sleep again to the password screen. This only happens when I have mighty mouse installed, and it doesn't matter if I leave the mouse completely still or not, 9 times out of 10 it will go out of sleep mode as soon as it is asleep.
I'm also wondering if the laser can damage your eyes since the only way I can get it to stay asleep is to press sleep in the apple menu and then quickly turn off the mouse, which means turning it around and switching it off, which means I have to look towards the laser.
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Welcome tgomm0v,

There is virtually no danger to eyesight when "looking toward" the tracking lasers in laser mice. While it's not a good idea to look directly into even the very weak laser used in laser mice, doing so would produce no more than a normal avoidance reaction (turning head away). Canadian and US Military vehicles used for crowd control now have what are called "dazzlers" - lasers which are far more powerful than those in laser mice. The dazzler-type laser can temporarily blind a person at normal operating ranges but only in the sense that an ordinary headlight can "blind" a person if it's shined directly in their eyes when the eyes are adapted to darkness. (Within 36 meters - about 116 feet - there is a hazard to eyesight from the military dazzler laser.)
Simple logic and use of Google will show that manufacturers would never put a dangerous laser in a computer mouse and sold to millions of unsuspecting victims.
OTH: if you are experiencing over-sensitivity to light, this may be reason to consult a physician or eye specialist.

  • When I install Reader 11.0.1 it "takes over" other programs

I used the Reader for a long time on my laptop before - a few months ago - it began to "colonise" my system, producing the symbol by many of my other programs (including Internet Explorer and Word) and preventing me from opening these programs. I eventually uninstalled Reader so that I could use the other programs. I have tried many times to install/uninstall, but without solving the problem. I am using OS Windows 74bit. I also have Reader installed on my desktop, where it works OK. The only difference between the two computers is the security: on the desktop I am using McAffee, on the laptop ESET. I have tried installing Reader on the laptop with virus protection disabled but with no positive result.
Incidentally, I have another problem with Adobe Flash which will not install on my laptop, but perhaps I should raise this in the Flash Forum - I mention it in case it might be relevant to a solution.
I would be grateful for any suggestions.

  • When I install Edobe elements 10, this progrom takes over other programs, unable to use them what t?

Adobe help tells me , my computer tells adobe photoshop elements 10  to controll other programs such as Aol. scanner pringter , HP support etc"  They want $40 to tell me how to stop my  HP from telling Adobe photo shop eslements from doing this.....what do I do , please,   Leasure

It would have been better If you would have told us your OS , but when you install the new software then the file association and some basic functionality is overided by the new program ,
for example:- you might double click on the JPEG file and it will open in MSpaint but when you will install the Illustartor , the JPEG by default will open in the Illustrator , because this program has made changes in the OS to suit itself better.
Now , in your sitaution we would like to know what exactly has chaged and what you want in detail?

  • Magic Mouse randomly enabled tap to click

Hey guys. I've had a magic mouse for over a year now, and I've loved it for all those years.
Until recently, when it decided to randomly enable the "tap to click" feature.
I didn't even know there was a tap to click feature, and I can't find a way to disable it in system prefs.
I've tried disabling MagicPrefs, restarting the mouse, restarting the computer, restarting bluetooth, and putting new batteries in the mouse, all to no avail.
    It's driving me insane.
How do I get rid of this?

There isn't a "tap to click" in standard OSx mouse preferences, only a physical click. This must be coming from MagicPrefs. Open the preferences for MagicPrefs (it should be listed under "other" in System Preferences) and select the "clicks & Taps" tab. Under Taps, uncheck all the one finger options.

  • My Magic Mouse Loses Connection Every Single Minor Tap

My Magic Mouse tends to lose its connection whenever I give it a tap on the table. I mean, it's normal right, when you lift the mouse a little bit and tap it to the surface to give the pointer a little more distance like browsing the web or playing a computer game. My Magic Mouse seems to lose its connection everytime it gets a minor tap on the table and no, I don't slam it hard.
It's not a battery problem since I change them frequently so I'm guessing it's either the hardware problem or the Bluetooth problem. Any idea what's causing this?

Actually I believe it is a battery problem.  Specifically, not all batteries are created equally and vary from brand to brand so with the tolerances as tight as they apparently are in (or are not) in the MM the positive terminal does not always make contact with the MM terminal.
Based on other posts in these forums the positive terminal varies slightly among brands.  Some are higher than others.  It's a minor amount but it appears to be enough.
I've seen this with my neighbor's MM.  Brand new batteries (forget the brand at the moment) yet I could shake the MM and have it make and break contact.  On the other hand I don't have the problem with my Sayno Eneloop rechargeables.
You might try inserting a small piece of paper or aluminum foil to take up the gap.
Another possibility is that the contacts are corroded so try to clean them a little.
