Magic Mouse Won't reconnect

I've had this new magic mouse for less than a week. It worked fine until today. I've been turning off the mouse at night. When I woke my computer today, the mouse wouldn't connect. I also tried using my mighty mouse to delete from the Bluetooth preference pain and start the process over. It didn't work.

Can you tell if Bluetooth is working and devices discoverable (by looking at the Bluetooth icon in the right of the menu bar)? If so, just a guess, but try:
- turning off the Magic mouse,
- removing the batteries,
- if possible test their strength, if standard batteries, they should be 1.5V
- reinserting the batteries,
- turning on the mouse,
- clicking the mouse a few times.
If this fails and your Mighty mouse and keyboard is working, try to reset PRAM.

  • Magic Mouse won't reconnect after Lion upgrade

Okay, I'll lay this out as quickly and consisely as possible.
I've searched every post and site I can find and tried everything suggested, and still no luck.
I have Mac Pro with an external bluetooth dongle, Magic Mouse, and I have just upgraded to OSX 10.7 Lion.
My Magic Mouse has always reconnected flawlessly to my machine after booting or waking, but after upgrading to Lion, it refuses to re-pair after booting or waking.  In bluetooth preferences, I can see in the Devices pane that "Steven's Mouse" is disconnected, but every couple of seconds this will flash green and show "Connected" - but only for a half second - and then it's back to "Not Connected".
I've set BT setup assistant to open on startup, and only when I have manually deleted and re-paired my Magic Mouse using the keyboard does the Magic Mouse connect.
Then sleep and wake and I'm back to square one.
    I have:
Restarted after trashing every bluetooth .plist file (~/Library/Preferences and also HD/Library/Preferences) - and bluetooth drivers
    Sone several SMC Resets
    Zapped my PRAM
    Made my mouse a 'Favorite'
Deleted and re-paired it more times than I can count
Turned the mouse on and off
    Clicked it
    Double-clicked it
    Kept clicking it
    Turned it on and off
    Triple-checked the batteries
Tested my mouse with another machine running SL
Tested another mouse with my machine
    - All with no luck whatsoever.  I'm about down to writing a suicide note or something!!!
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Steven
(BTW I'm 100% sure the issue is within the Lion system somewhere - not my hardware.

Hi, I had the same problem but it's fixed now.  It seems that the order you turn mouse and bluetooth off and on makes the difference.  This is what worked on my macbook pro (eventually!):
turn off bluetooth and mouse.  Turn on bluetooth.  Open system preferences.  Open mouse. It starts searching. then Turn on mouse.  Hey presto! (and much to my surprise) it found it.
It also worked if I left the mouse on, and turned it off and on after opening the mouse in system preferences and it had started searching.  But if, for example, I turned on the mouse before opening system preferences,it was no go.
There is another issue:  I (like I suspect a lot of people) switch between lion and snow leopard (Macbook Pro and Mac Mini respectively), and every time it has to be paired manually. I have found I have to use the entire process shown above with both OSs.
Also, the mouse has to be paired to Lion at every startup.  I never have to re-pair the mouse with Snow leopard on startup (unless it's been paired to Lion in the meantime!).
I hope that some of this might help someone, even just a little.

  • Magic Mouse won't work in Windows 7 anymore

    Hey there,
I've got an iMac running OS X 10.6.8 and Windows 7 via Boot Camp. I just updated a bunch of the Apple stuff on Windows -- iTunes, Quicktime, "boot camp" (I assume that meant drivers and such), and whatnot. Now my Magic Mouse won't work in Windows 7. It was fine before, so I assume the update screwed something up. Help? I know nothing of retrieving old drivers and stuff like that.
Note: I am running Snow Leopard, NOT Lion.

  • Magic mouse won't scroll on snow leopard

I bought an imac two weeks ago (snow leopard)- and my magic mouse won't scroll! I do not seem to have the USB overdrive installed, I have all the latest software! Help!

The ball is dirty, they have a history of accumulating dirt and grime on them so that's my best guess. When I used one what worked well was rolling the ball very very vigorously on a white sheet of paper on a hard flat surface. Do this for about 60 seconds then see if that took care of it.
NOTE: My error I misread and thought you wrote Mighty Mouse. Please disregard.

does anyone know why a magic mouse won't scroll in calendar in mavericks?
It will scroll in a window that has an indicator scroll bar on the right side but not in the new seamless calendar view. The built in trackpad on my mid 2012 macbook pro will scroll.

    or uninstall those mpkgs

  • Suddenly my magic mouse won't track properly, can anyone help?

Suddenly my magic mouse won't track around the screen properly, can anyone help? It was working fine then it started sticking. It scrolls from top to bottom fine just the on screen movement is effected. The battery is showing 100%, I've changed the fast/slow slider all the way to the right which has helped a little and unpaired it from bluetooth then re-paired it, did an SMC shut-down, cleaned ball, battery points but it still does not feel totally right? Am I missing something?

  • My magic mouse won't connect to Yosemite 10.10.2 I've tried 2 different mice with the same outcome.

I have an early 2013 MBP with Yosemite 10.10.2. Connectivity with the magic mouse has steadily gotten worse, now it won't connect at all. I've tried connecting with two different mice, one about 5 years old and one about 2 years old, both with the same result. Any one else have this issue?

  • My magic mouse won't work.

I got a low battery warning yesterday & went to change then today. Well, one of the batteries had exploded. I cleaned the area as best I could (it even ate through the cover) but the mouse won't work with the new batteries. Did the acid "kill" my mouse or is it just time to replace it? I got the Magic Mouse right after they came out.

I already cleaned the contacts before I posted. I would think my Magic mouse would last longer than a couple years. I am going to take the remaining package of batteries back to Costco as they are supposedly good to 2016. I will take the magic mouse too so they can see the damage. Now, If I can only get my bluetooth "Mighty Mouse" to pare with my iMac I would be happy. Good thing I have my laptop!

  • Bluetooth mouse won't reconnect when switched on

I have a 2.4GHz Mac Min (last model before being replaced by the model without DVD drive) and a Mac USB keyboard.  I wanted to use a Bluetooth mouse as I don't like the trailing lead with a USB mouse, but I wanted a conventional three button type mouse as I need that for my RISC OS emulator program, so I bought a Logitech V470 Bluetooth mouse.  I set it up in Bluetooth preferences with no problem and set it as a favourite.  It then worked very well and was comfortable, smooth and accurate.  The problem comes after I have turned it off, either when I am not going to be using the computer for a period of time, or at night, obviously to save batteries.  When I switch the mouse back on, the computer and mouse simply will not reconnect.  The only way I can get the mouse to reconnect is to plug in a USB mouse, delete the original device pairing, and set-up a new device again; or power the computer off and restart it.  Sometimes restarting the computer doesn't work as a dialogue box will open over the password screen saying it can't find any mouse, then it finds it and shows the correct Mac Address of the mouse but even clicking any of the buttons on the mouse it still won't actually control the mouse pointer!
I have another Bluetooth mouse, a Microsoft 5000, which I use with my MacBook Pro so I tried that with the Mac Mini and once paired it works fine, *including* after being turned off, reconnecting within a second of being turned back on.  So I asumed it was something to do with the Logitech mouse rather than the Mac Mini, and contacted Logitech.  As it was a new mouse they suggested it was faulty and I have been sent a new one.  However this one is the same and in one respect actually worse.  Once paired it works fine just like the original, but once it has been switched off, again it will not reconnect when switch on.  But with this one, even closing down the computer and restarting it won't connect the mouse.  The only way with this one is to delete the pairing and set-up a new pairing again.  That means whenever the computer or mouse are turned off, you have to connect a USB mouse so that you can get back in, delete the pairing and set-up a new pairing again, which is unacceptable.
However, if I boot the Mac Mini into Windows XP using bootcamp the Logitech mouse works as you would expect in all ways *including* reconnecting immediately after being turned on, if it has been turned off.  Also I tried this mouse with a 2006 iBook G4 1.42GHz OS X 10.4.11 and again it functions correctly including reconnecting immediately it is switched back on.  So these last two tests appear to show a fault with the Bluetooth firmware in Mac OS X on the new Mac Mini not a fault with the Logitech mice.  After all, it is using the same Bluetooth and aerial whether in Mac OS X or Windows but it will only reconnect when in Windows.  As a final test I set the MacBook Pro up for Windows 7 using bootcamp and again the mouse will not reconnect in Mac OS X on the MacBook Pro but it reconnects fine in Windows 7 on the same hardware.
Is there an answer to this problem?  Do you agree it is a firmware/software fault?  Does Apple know about it and are they going to do anything to correct the problem?  Thanks.  Roy

Yes, I do notice that connection can be lost sometimes and regaining it can be difficult. I have even had to go to the point of finding an old USB mouse to get it going again. I usually try turning off the switch on the mouse and then back on. Then I click it about 5 times or so, usually it picks it up again. Same thing with keyboard. Not sure if that helps at all. Good luck.

I have a magic mouse and it won't connect to my macbook pro retina display. I dont know where there is a file i need to delete and if i need to do that where and how do I find it. Thank you.

Has the mouse been connected to something else?  If so, it needs to be deleted from that device first.
