Magic Moving Keyframes

hi,
i did a quick search and came across one other instance of this but it wasnt answered ( unless I didnt search properly!)
I have a parent layer with other layers in it. I keyframe aspects of the parent layer, like size and position etc. works fine. But if I want to change the duration of one of the child layers either by draggin or pressing o to auto extend to the current position in the timeline, the keyframes in the parent layer disappear. Actually i think they are moving to somewhere outside the scope of the project because sometimes they come back again.
They are not compressing because the parent layer is not changing in length.
The only workaround I have found so far is to drag the child out of the parent, adjust its length, then drop it back in again.
It doesnt always do this, havent figured out why or not it does yet.
Any ideas?

hi,
funny I'm in the middle of a commercial which uses a lot of cut out animation elements. As I knew I'd be using big layers moving on and off screen I followed Particks advice and used behaviours instead of keyframes. And I have to say that so far I have been able to achieve everything i wanted with them. ( its not that complacted a commerial!). Its like so many things in Motion i just hadnt used them enough to be proficiant and so i stuck to keyframing. I'm a convert!
oh and i'v enot had any problems with moving keyframes. Altough i did again earlier today and is definatley something to do with oversized layers, if any of you Motion coders are listening in!

  • Moving keyframes at end of clip?

Is there anyway to move a keyframe that is at the end (or beyond the end) of a clip? (in the effects control window)  Often, keyframes at the end do not even half show within the effects control window.
Certainly, keyframes at the end of a clip should be easily selectable and movable.... and it would be nice if keyframes beyond the end of a clip had some kind of interface, rather than just not showing up without extending the clip.

  • Moving keyframes around in motion tween?

    Hi
In Flash CS5, after you've inserted a keyframe in a motion tween, how do you move that keyframe to another frame?

  • Need help moving keyframes

I have a STMP that goes along with a video from FCP. My client said they liked it, but I have to add something to the beginning...which means I have to move everything about 9 seconds down. Problem is, a lot of the tracks are keyframed for volume. Is there a way to Select All including keyframes? Or, can I insert a slug at the beginning that will effectively move everything down?
    Thanks,

  • Shortcut for moving keyframe to playhead position?

Is there a keyboard shortcut to move a selected keyframe to the current playhead position / layer in- or out-point / work area in- or out-point?

Aaron's suggestion is spot on, but also do not forget that you can nudge keyxframes (Alt /Alt+Shift and arrow keys) and generally snap keyframes while dragging with the Shift key pressed.

  • Moving multiple audio keyframes within a clip...but not all of them

I have a highlight video with an underlying music bed where I've dropped the levels when I have someone speaking to the camera.
I had to shorten the video and need to re-align the keyframes for some of the sections of music back up with the audio of the video clips.
I've figured out how to shift all the keyframes together in an audio clip, but I can't find anything on shifting only a certain selection of keyframes within a clip. I'm hoping that there is an easier way to do this than moving each keyframe individually.
'FCP Help' mentions using the Range Selection Tool, but instead of moving keyframes, it cuts out the section of the clip that is selected and moves it.
I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

  • CS5.5 & various audio & keyframe & modifier issues

    Hey all,
Can anyone confirm these problems?  Some of this stuff went from working perfect in CS5 and seeming to be way bugged in CS5.5, for me.
    - first, moving keyframes around with the CTRL modifier is bugged.. instead of moving around slower than normal, it bugs out and moves around randomly and can only be increased.  If I try to move a keyframe down with CTRL pressed, it the keyframe moves up instead.
    - something serious is wrong with submixes.  At times it forgets what I did and appears to undo itself without me noticing. When I was working a couple nights ago, I had to redo the same spot of audio keyframing a certain part of a submix like 5 times.  I'd fix it, playback okay good.  Move on and keep working, and later when I go to playback, that part was screwed up again and I'd have to build it again.  |  Next, it likes to just make a bunch of keyframes on it's own at times, adding a bunch of points at random levels and times.  I could often just undo them, but it's still doing something crazy and all by itself.  |  Last, complicating both of these issues, the redraw isn't refreshing properly.. a lot of the time when I noticed the two above issues by playing back, everything looked fine in the timeline, and then zooming or scrubbing over the area, the submix track draws itself and updates what's really there.
    - this one's carried over from CS5--certain audio filters, like Denoise, seem to randomly bug out if a project gets too complicated.  Sometimes during playback, sometimes even during export--and random, not repeatable or predictable--what happens is the volume suddenly goes really low on the track with the filter almost dissappearing.  Simply stopping and playing it again (or exporting it again) works, however quite annoying & killer when an export is screwed up due to the bug.
    - Similarly, sometimes whole tracks or clips dissappear when playing back.  I've never noticed the problem on export, but on a fairly simple commercial project I'm doing, often on playback the music dissappears or doesn't playback at all.  I have the music split into several parts, because I did some fades to adjust how long it is.  When it hits the next 'clip' of the song, it comes plays that back fine.  Again, stopping, resetting the time indicator, and playing back again almost always solves the issue.. kinda of to get it to "catch"/have the magic touch when you playback.. no specific action or behaviour is causing the problem.
Thanks.. let me know if anyone has some suggestions or ideas, will submit to bug report as needed.  I can say the last 2 have been issues for a long time and I've seen them over multiple systems and installations; however I can't say the same for first two, which are CS5.5 introduced.

  • Magic Moves not always Magic (non-linear slide orders)

Magic Moves opens the possibility of non-linear slide orders with animated transitions. Previously in keynote (KN '08), as far as I could ascertain, this was impossible. Now a slide with several hyper-linked objects can enjoy an animation of the on screen objects to there new positions, where-ever they may be on the on the linked slides.
Unfortunately, as in some other things Keynote, it seems flakey. While it works most of the time for some reason, even when duplicating the linking slide and repositioning the very same objects, the Move is delayed and instantaneous: decidedly not Magic!
The joy of being able to finally make the fully interactive Keynote presentation that will slide objects the right amount automatically according to there destination slide seems possible. The great thing is I don't have to construct all the different moves linking 26 different pages to each other via various routes (8 links on each page, which happened to be 8x26 possible linking routes = 208 move builds: too much for prescriptive build/move animations).
But if I can't get it too work 100% I can't really show my client. Any know issues with this Magic Move stuff?
I can replicate problem but not predict when it won't work or decode what is triggering the problem. Searching forum only revealed comment the Magic Move is work in progress. Note I am not scaling any objects. Can upload if it helps. Part of the original Presentation with a linear narrative can be seen at:
    http://www.vimeo.com/3018559
Essentially I am endeavouring to make all the images 'clickable' so the film strip glides (against the preset order) to become the centre project. Also like to add a left and right button. All this can be theoretically done with invisible rect's with hyperlinks and Magic moves on each slide.
Thanks for reading though all this – hope it's clearer than mud.

    Thanks for the response, Kyn.
As it happens writing that long explanation, I thought I'd look from another angle and returned to the file – finding the answer straight away.
    Conclusion:
Hyperlinks never use Magic Move transition, even if it is selected transition for the slide. I was getting hoodwinked by the fact that when I had forward and back arrows with hyperlinks to other slides, those slides were before and after the current slide. So they were Magic Moving with a mouse click on the Hyperlink, but only when forward one slide or backward one slide. Any other linking distance failed to Magic Move.
I've already made the feature request but *please second it*, this would be a very powerful feature. Think Non-Linear Presentations and Info Kiosks with seamless transitions. And interaction is an area Powerpoint has decided edge on Keynote so it can and needs to be closed! (PP is such a trial of an interface after KN).

  • Magic Move with videos

Does anyone know if it's possible to do a magic move transition between 2 videos? I have 2 videos that play as a backgrounds with bullet points that display over the top of them - really want the slide transition to look smooth and the videos roll into each other.

    slobberingdog wrote:
Hi again - can't check out the video as you need to pay ('alot') for it. Might be worth it though.
I watched this at time (ages ago) for free so not sure what you are paying for. Anyhow just because he says "Keynote" does not mean it is +actual table object+ being Magic Moved.
(A large part of the power of Marketing is in creating false perceptions without actual doing anything illegal. This has been discussed on other threads and lots of people made same assumption as you have).
There are ways to do what was demonstrated using pngs of the table for the transition then dissolving to the actual table etc etc.
Not a big deal to do for a Big budget presentation like that but a hassle if you are changing the table data as you need to regenerate pngs and so on

  • Another "Magic Move" question...

    *Hi there!*
I'm trying Keynote 09 and all goes fine, except for this *"Magic Move"* thing.
I can actually "move" one object through both slides, but can't go further than that; if I try to scale it, rotate or everything else that's not just repositioning on x and y axis, all I get is a darkened (and often cropped) image which moves towards the final position and suddenly gets replaced by the modified one at the end of the transition.
Since I'm on an old hardware and running Tiger, I was wondering if there was some sort of hw limitation for the Magic Move transition +(although the ones for which I know hw limitations do exist are regularly grayed out in their menu and MM is the only one that gives me problems)+.
I've tried every suggestion I came across in this forum and over the net, but still had no luck +(even thou' I couldn't find anyone else experiencing the same problem)+.
I've already re-installed the iWorks demo...
    Any hint?
    TIA!
    ale

    Hi, Pesto1.
Yep, I know... MM is pretty young and Keynote itself is not so much older, after all (and still is WAY better than PPT).
I must say I'm pretty satisfied with all its feature, even if - me too - I can see all of their potentials and often find myself thinking about improvements more as a +"*Keynote Pro*"+ application build, rather than some actual improvement on Keynote itself
There are probably too many... people coming from Graphics/DTP have their own, people coming from Flash have others and so do people coming from video-editing.
(I still didn't get why did Apple cut out QT's capability of reading .swf files, to say one).
On the other side, if we're using Keynote is because we need something editable by our clients (if it wasn't for that, I think I'd rather go for a Flash presentation); and clients - or intermediate users in general - are pretty rarely skilled enough to deal with _too many_ choices.
I think Apple's trying to keep Keynote as simple as it can, yet powerful.
And, indeed, it IS pretty much simpler than PPT, yet way more powerful.
    *Back to the "MM" thing...*
I know it has some limitation, but - on my side - it's not working *at all*.
It does move objects, but if I resize (no crop, no template text, no group) or just rotate them, it doesn't work anymore.
+And by "doesn't work" I mean it randomly crops images/objects, moves them and then suddenly pops them up in their final position; no fading as when "it does nothing".+
I managed to get a file in which I've seen (on another Mac) MM working as it should, and I experienced the very same issues (on my G4).
The only thing I can think about at this point is the G4 Graphic Card that is pretty obsolete, and probably MM is one of those "GPU stresser" effects. What makes me doubt about it is that Apple didn't mention it in the iWorks specs.
And the fact that I couldn't find any other similar complaint on the whole Internet.
+(I've been googling around so much for this I think this month Google's gonna send me a bill)!!+ :/
Or maybe is just the fact that no one uses G4s anymore?
It sounds logical and unacceptable at the same time.
No one here "magic moving" anything on a G4?
I'd love to hear some clear words about it, so that I can decide whether to stop looking around or try to improve my search skills.
As for your issues, maybe there could be some workaround...
    1. If you have to crop your image, probably making a placeholder IN which you resize the image and the placeholder itself through MM, could work.
    +(I can't try this myself 'cause... well, I wouldn't be here if I could)+ :/
    2. I think it's fair you can't move template objects in general +(I also come from DTP, where "Masters pages" and their elements *must not* be editable, unless you badly want to)+. But I think if you just select the text boxes you want to move, making a command-X ("cut") and command-V should "unchain" them from the master slide and make them become brand new objects.
+EDIT: just tried it and it does work (at least just moving it), even directly on template text boxes. Am I missing something?+
    3. Groups are evolving... Keynote is not enough skilled on groups, yet.
(I wish I could group many object with different actions/builds applied without losing them forever). Sorry... I have no hint on this.
As for the slide not accepting different timing that's not a (direct) bug of Keynote, but is the way Keynote imports files from PPT.
Dunno if it's Keynote to blame or PPT, but somehow I tend to bet on the last one.
That is a HUGE problem, 'cause I often have to convert PPT presentations made by clients and all of the effects and transitions are stuck in PPT time (which is more than often around 2,00 sec!!).
You can figure what a "PIA" it is to remove each effect on every object and then re-apply them just to have time control back!
And I'm talking of hundreds of slide with 3-8 objects per each!
+(I wish there was a script or something that could read PPT timing format and kinda "translate" it in a Keynote one).+
Btw... if it's only one or a couple of slide, it's no big deal.
Select the action or transition you don't get the timing control on, put the action to "none" and then re-apply the same effect/transition.
You'll have your timing control back.
    +(If i did get what you mean).+

  • Keyframes doesn't let go from mouse ???

    Hello,
Kind a frustrating problem lately occurred. When moving keyframes and letting go where wanted, they still get stick with mouse and keep moving along few seconds. It happens in both CC and CC2014.
Not sure since when it happened. But lately upgraded to Yosemite. Is  anyone having the same problem?

  • Phone outage since 20th December.

I've had an unusable phone line since 20th December extremely loud crackling, unable to make or receive calls, sometimes no dial tone at all. This fault is intermittently affecting my broadband which, being FTTC, indicates a fault my side of the cabinet.  I ran the line test which decided that the fault was in the network and an engineer was booked.
I had a call after a day or so to tell me that, what with the holiday period and bad weather, they wouldn;t be avle to get to me until the 31st. OK I was happy with that as I was not working during that period.
31st December and the engineer duly arrived. Ran line tests from the master socket and said the fault was 130m away. He went for a walk and when he came back he said he couldn't find a cabinet at that distance. He went out again for a while and eventually told me he'd found an upstream cabinet with some rather corroded connections which he cleaned. We checked the line and it seemed to work. So far, so good. He left.
I was away from home for New Year but discovered that same afternoon that I could not connect to my home broadband and that I could not call my house; the call being diverted straight to BT Answer.
On 1st Jan, I had a follow up call from Connor who told me he had discovered the same thing and that he'd report it as not fixed. It ought to be looked at within 3 days.
Today I chased up the fault and had a very frustrating conversation with a support technician who told me that the fault had magically moved into my premises, and read a long spiel on how much it might cost me if the fault is mine. OK this is rather threatening but I'm secure in the knowledge that the only two items connected to the master socket is my cordless phone base station and the BT-supplied Infinity VDSL modem.
The engineer instructed me to unscrew the front plate and connect my phone directly to the engineer's socket; the fault still existed. Still the engineer insisted his “diagnostic software” was able to detect that the fault was inside my premises and therefore he coudl only offer me an appointment of the 14th January. That's 45 days from the first report!
All I want is to get the OpenReach engineer to have another go at finding the fault he detected 130m from my house, perhaps coming armed with the local cabinet location.
How can I get the engineer to return? I work at home and, while I have 3G backup for my internet connection, it is extremely disrupting to have to keep switching over when the network dies, in addition to the obvious difficulty in having no phone connection.

  • Exporting to Flash

    Hi Group,
Perhaps I am missing something, but when I save a composition to flash for a website the layer styles just disappear, leaving me with flat text and images.
I fail to see the benefit of adding layer styles if they don't show.
I am using CS4 in windows xp
    David.

    David:
Can you clarify what do mean by saving a Composition to Flash? Are you exporting a SWF file? Are you using the new XFL for Flash Professional option? Or are you rendering to a FLV (Flash video) file?
If it's SWF, then there's a handful of options that will go through as vector graphics. This includes solid layers, AI/EPS files, masks and text layers with animation (there's a couple of exceptions). Everything else would have to be rasterized, ie converted to bitmap. Since SWF is not an efficient way of storing bitmaps for the web, AE offers an option to rasterize or ignore unsupported features. If the Ignore... option is selected, then unsupported features (like Layer Styles) will be stripped off.
The AE Help page Render and export a composition as a SWF file has all the information on supported features for vector export.
You can use all features if you export a FLV video file instead. This is a much more efficient way of handling pixels in motion, at web-friendly data rates.
More information on this option, in the AE help page Render and export a composition as an FLV or F4V file.
The XFL option is a great option for more specific workflows.  It exports a project that the Flash authoring application can open. But since there's so much AE can do that Flash can't (or would do differently) a layer with styles would be encoded to a FLV file, and that FLV file would appear inside of the Flash project. The XFL project option is great for moving keyframes and animation to Flash (think motion tracking, for instance). It's not the most direct way to put content on the web for the Flash player.
For more information on this, see Export a composition as an XFL file to Flash Professional in AE Help.

  • Motion Short Cuts

I am new to Motion and getting a pretty good handle on it, but I could work more efficiently if I knew some short-cuts.
For example when I have a clip selected can I toggle back and forth from it's in and out points. In FCP I use Shift-I or O to do this, there must be a way in Motion?
Can you hit a magic "all keyframe" button? Sometimes I want to set a keyframe in multiple places and I have jumping from clip to clip, tab to tab to locate where I need to select a keyframe.
Last After you select record why doesn't Motion set a keyframe at the timeline marker? After I select record I still have to select all my keyframes I want to start with and move the timeline marker to my destination then make my move. If I don't set keyframes first the entire clip moves and doesn't stay put from my in point.
I hope I can get some help and everybody understands what I am talking about. These are a few issues that annoy me about Motion. If I could work this out I would be so happy!

    MacPro 3GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon 2GB RAM

Shift-I will jump the playhead to the In point of the selected layer, effect, or group; Shift-O to the Out point. Shift-[ will move the In point to the playhead; Shift-] will move the Out point. These are all listed in the menus. I and O will trim In and Out points. Etc, Etc.

  • Very strange - using cross dissolve transition between a series of stills

New to FCP - been using FCE for a couple of years now.
I have a bunch of stills that I animate aka the Ken Burns effect. After I add keyframes at beginning and the end of the clip, I then add a transition (I use transitions on almost every picture). For some strange reason, when I use a cross dissolve and render it, the picture shakes a bit when I play it. It's not the screen that shakes, it's just the picture in the canvas and it only shakes when the transition plays. After the transition, the picture plays just fine. Very strange. Never happened in FCE and only happens with cross dissolve.
    Any ideas? thanks.

When I render the picture and transition, I hit Option R which renders everything - doesn't take too long because I render after each change. Not moving keyframes out which actually creates another problem that the movement doesn't start immediately but that's not what I'm talking about here.
I've been doing this awhile and it's never seen this before. Using a new scanner (Canon) and just bought Adobe CS3 Design that I use to edit the pix but can't believe either of those would be a problem. Has anyone heard of a problem with FCP after installing an Adobe product?
    Thanks for the suggestions anyway
