Mail 4.1, Exchange, and Duplicate messages in inbox

Using Snow Leopard and Mail 4.1 to access an exchange account and a gmail account. The problem ONLY occurs in the Exchange account. My messages are all duplicating. Only in Mail are they duplicating. I've checked Outlook Web Access and Outlook on my windows machine - no duplicates there. Didn't start out this way, and the problem came once before, stopped, and now it has returned. If I delete one copy of the message, both messages get deleted. Is there someway to rebuild the mail inbox? or resync?
Also, tried creating a new folder on the exchange server, copying all messages from inbox to the new folder, then moving back. In the temp/new folder, the messages were single. After copying back to Inbox - they doubled again. And again, only in Mail. The msgs remain single in Outlook, OWA, iPhone, Blackberry.
UPDATE: I highlighted the exchange mailbox and went to MAILBOX > REBUILD. Erased everything but only in Mail. The messages are still on the Exchange server and can be seen by OWA, Outlook, iphone and blackberry. New messages are going to the Mail Exchange inbox but old messages are gone. Any way to get them back?

Thanks V.K.! So there is no chance for me to re upload all the messages from my mac to my yahoo inbox.
nope.
May I ask yahoo to that?
you can ask but they won't say anything different.
I could never have known that the default setting on mac's mail would be "remove copy from server after retrieving a message".
now, that's a valid point. this is not exactly advertised and mail setup assistant does not tell you anything about it. you can voice your concern to apple about this issue here
http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
I wish apple had some kind of a solution for this.
there isn't anything you can do now. it's not up to apple at this point. you just can't upload messages to a POP email server. it does not matter what email client or what operating system you are using.
Thanks again

  • Exchange 2013 - Duplicate Message Detection

    Hi,
I am trying to resend an email from my spam firewall but it is not reaching the user. The duplication detection on the server is not allowing me to resend. If I go back older than a month I was able to successfully resend from the spam firewall.
How do I temporally disable the duplicate message detection on Exchange 2013 server?
I found this from someone else for 2013 but I did not have this path in my registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\<Server_Name>\Public-<GUID>
    Thank you

    Hi,
After some search, I think we can adjust the expiration time of duplicate message detection. And the minimum value is 1 hour, so we don't need to wait several days.
    The registry setting is:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\<Server Name>\<Private/Public-Guid>\Track Duplicates
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\<Server Name>\<Private/Public-Guid>\Background Cleanup

  • Duplicate messages in Inbox

In Macbook Pro, in Mail, I receive a duplicate message in the Inbox. Under the inbox file is another file labeled with my e-mail address. I only receive the one message in it. How do I stop getting duplicate messages in My Inbox?

Hi - in case there is anyone out there who has the same problem - mine got miraculously cured with the recent update of Mail. I only wish I hadn't spent upwards of 8 hours trying to fix something that was a software fault all along. Had I known this Apple, I wouldn't have wasted lots and lots my time trying to fix it...doh.

  • Duplicate messages to inbox on reply

Why do I receive a duplicate message in my Style inbox when replying? This only happens when I reply from my PC not the handheld. It only happens when replying - not forwarding. I have checked all the settings on Outlook and I don't see anything that would create this problem or solve it. My IT persons says it's a BB problem and my carrier says it's an Outlook problem

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
You didn't say what email service this is for...and that matters a great deal. So, here are some KBs that might apply...you will have to dig through them for those that match your situation:
KB13891BlackBerry smartphone users receive duplicate email messages after an enterprise activation process
KB13528Duplicate email messages are received on the BlackBerry smartphone
KB13587Duplicate email messages are received from a Yahoo! Mail account on the BlackBerry smartphone

KB11127Duplicate sent email messages are delivered to the BlackBerry smartphone when using Auto BCC
KB05477Duplicate sent items appear on the BlackBerry device
While some of those apply to BES, if you are indeed on BES, then your BES admins really should be assisting.

  • Mac Mail - Forward Symbol Appearing On All Messages In Inbox??

My mac mail app has started automatically adding the forwarded mail symbol (small right-pointing arrow) on all messages that I receive within my inbox. When I click on the forward symbol, I also get an error stating 'Error - Mail was unable to find your reply to the message “XXX”. You may have deleted the message.'. This is correct because even though the messages have the forward symbol...they have never actually been forwarded or replied to which explains why Mail can't locate the forwarded message. I have tried rebullding my inbox both through the 'Mailbox / Rebuild' menu command as well as by deleting the envelope index file within the Library/Mail/V2/MailData folder and still the problem persists.
I have 3 separate IMAP email accounts set-up within mail and this bug is happening on all messages received in my inbox. The forward arrow is also appearing on the messages when I view them in Mail on my iPhone or iPad but only after the arrow was added to the message within Mail on my Macbook Pro. In other words, when I receive messages in my inbox on my iPhone or iPad, the arrow does not get added so it'se defintely a bug with the Mail app on my Macbook Pro.
Any feedback/advice would be greatly appreciated as it's very annoying having all of my email messages marked with the forward symbol!!

Thanks for the update. I guess it would be great if both Apple and MS come up with a solution for this issue as it is very critical. Please keep me posted if hear from them.
I found some article in Apple support with the following details. I tried both the options and it doesn't work either. More info here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/2.0/en/ml1002.html
Reindex mailboxes. To do so, quit Mail and, in the Mail folder in your home Library folder, move the Envelope Index file and any folders that begin with "Mac-", "Exchange-", or "IMAP-" to a different location, such as your desktop. When you open Mail, it reindexes all messages in local mailboxes or POP folders and re-downloads all messages from the mail server. This process can take several minutes depending on how many messages are in your mailboxes.
For a POP account, reimport mailboxes. To do so, choose File > Import Mailboxes, and then choose "Mail for Mac OS X." In the Mail folder in your home Library folder, select the folder that begins with "POP-" (for example, [email protected]). If the problem persists, try again, this time choosing "Other" and then selecting the affected mailbox itself (for example, Library/Mail/POP- [email protected]/Inbox.mbox).

  • Duplicate Message in Inbox SBWP

    Hi All,
I have the problems for messsages release in inbox sbwp. I used the workflow FIPP single level release amount for parked document. When I parked the document in FV60, I got one messages release amount in inbox sbwp. It is correct. But When I have completed this document in FBV0, The inbox will appear duplicate messages for release amount (4 or 5 messages) for same document number. Do you ever have the same problems? How can I solve this problems? Please kindly need your advise.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hii,
Thanks for all reply. This is issue is not about invoice duplicate, I have check the invoice duplicate. In Tcode SWEL, I check there is appears several event release for one document. When I have investigate the details of the transaction. If I didn't select the cost center, the workflow is fine and only one messages for release one document. But in another case, It is not cause by all cost center. If I selected several cost center, it can be wrong and inbow will show several messages in SBWP. This is not affected in all cost center. In workflow, is there any step to determine cost center? How could Workflow define for cost center? Kindly need your help to solve this issue.
    Thanks,

  • Mail with MS Exchange and system folders...

A friend of mine is using Mail 3.5 with his company's MS Exchange server (2003?) and it works fine. He can send and receive with no problem. He can create folders in his account. He can SEE the system-wide folders on the server, HOWEVER, he cannot file a mail message in the system folders.
Is this a configuration issue that needs to be addressed or is this a deficiency of Mail when used with an Exchange Server?
Any help on this would be appreciated.
    Peter

    Barry,
I too have battled this problem for several years. I can't remember the exact reason why this doesn't work for me, but I thought it was because when our email messages are sent to the Exchange server, they aren't going directly to it, they're going through a spam checker that is attached to the Exchange server. Because of this handoff, I'm not able to send mail directly through the Exchange server in my company.
As a workaround, set up a Gmail account with Google. After you do this, Google gives you access to send mail using port 995 with a username and password they will supply to you with during the account creation process. I now use this to send my outgoing messages and I can send from anywhere in the world I have internet access... You will need to set up your google account to make your "reply to address" your work email address and the same in Mail, but thats about it.

  • IMAP and Duplicate messages in Sent

I have set up Mail to work with AOL mail using IMAP. I would like to have me Sent emails synced, just like the rest of my folders. Unfortunately when I do that and I send an email from Mail it always gets included twice in the Sent folder. What do I do to fix this?
It seems that the program is saving a copy on the Sent folder and AOL is itelf including a copy. Any ideas?

Yes, you guessed it correctly and there is nothing you can do about it. The underlying problem is that AOL doesn’t let IMAP mail clients such as Mail to create or manage mailboxes at the root level of the account directory on the server, only as subfolders of Saved, which means you should turn OFF Store messages on the server for all the mailboxes in Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors, so that Mail stores those mailboxes locally on your computer instead.
But AOL also automatically saves the messages you send through its outgoing server in a server-stored Sent Items mailbox that Mail has no control over no matter what your settings. Hence, having your sent messages saved both in a locally stored Sent mailbox (by Mail) and in a server-stored Sent Items mailbox (by AOL) is normal. You should just ignore the Sent Items mailbox managed by AOL, amongst other reasons because AOL will eventually purge your messages from there after some time without you being able to do anything about that either.

  • Disappearing and Duplicated Messages in Inbox

Ever since I switched to Mail.app a while back, I've been noticing a pair of odd behaviors in my Inbox. The first is that some messages will appear twice in the list. If I read one, the other is marked as read, and if I delete one, the other is also deleted. So far, all the affected messages are from one mailing list.
The other issue is that sometimes, while I'm reading through the new messages, some unread messages will disappear from the list. The message count will show that there are still X unread messages, but none will show in the list. If I switch to a different mailbox and then back, the missing messages reappear. I have found no correlating factors among the messages that disappear.
While neither of these issues is a major problem, they are annoying. Has anyone else ever encountered either of these issues, and does anyone know a way to fix them?

    Hi Mark,
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.

  • Deleted Pop Mail account, which deleted all my messages in Inbox.

I deleted a POP mail account to use a new IMAP account. Unfortunately this seems to have deleted my Inbox and Sent Mail folders. Does anyone know any way I can retrieve these? I immediately closed out of Mail.I checked in User> Library> Mail, but I don't see the Inbox or sent .mbox. Anybody have any idea if they're retrievable? Thanks so much.
    -Hannah

Hi Hannah, and a warm welcome to the forums!
It's Possible, but you must quit using the Computer immediately.
Either boot this one in Target mode...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
And recovering from another Mac, or booting this Mac from another HDD, then using Data Rescue II...
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
(Has a Free Demo to see if it could or not, but you'll need another drive to recover to).
    Or professional Data Recovery Services.
BUT, every second you use that Mac the chances will be slimmer.

  • Mail adding duplicate messages as not read in my inbox

My mail started adding old and duplicate messages in my inbox and won't stop.  It is not happening in any other format that is using this email adress (smartphone, etc) continues even when offline.  after 12 hours of it I am up to 35000 messages.  Can anyone help?

    Hi there,
    You can try the following:
    1. Open your messages icon
    2. In the messages windows press the menu key(left of trackball) and click options.
    3. Do you see Email Reconcilation? If so where it says  Delete On, make sure it only says Handheld.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I prevent Mail from applying actions (moving/copying/flagging/marking read) to duplicate messages?

I use Mail to check multiple accounts. When I receive the same e-mail in multiple accounts, actions applied to an e-mail in one account often (though not always) affect duplicate messages in other accounts.
    Example 1
Someone sends an e-mail to both me and my wife. Mail is set up to check both accounts. If I open the message in my Inbox, it marks it as read in my Inbox as well as in my wife's Inbox.
    Example 2
For historical reasons, I have chosen to have all my e-mail forwarded (by the server) to a second account, to be used essentially as an un-touched archive of all incoming mail. If I manually move a message from my main account Inbox to another mailbox, the destination mailbox will end up with 2 copies, one from my main account Inbox and the other from the "un-touched archive" Inbox (which has obviously now been altered unintentionally).
Does anyone know of a way to prevent this behavior. I can manage my own duplicates. I don't want Mail to do it for me.
(Btw, I already have the "AlwaysShowDuplicates" option set using "defaults delete com.apple.mail AlwaysShowDuplicates")

There are certainly many ways of organizing things so that Mail never has to deal with multiple accounts and duplicate messages (separate user accounts, separate computers, separate mail clients, etc., etc). That's just not what I was asking. I'd like to know how to fix Mail's behavior when it does have to deal with multiple accounts and duplicate messages.
I was hoping there might be another hidden preference or something (and by the way my original post should have said "defaults write com.apple.mail AlwaysShowDuplicates -bool true", instead of the "defaults delete ...")

  • Mail won't quit and messages stuck in Outbox

Having a very strange problem with Mail on my father's Mac Mini. It is not my computer so I'm not sure what has lead to this, but Mail will not quit, and every message we try to send gets stuck in the Outbox. The version running is Mac OS X 10.6.8, and the version of Mail is 4.6 (1085).
I have tried removing all messages from the Outbox and then deleting Outbox.mbe. This hasn't worked.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes. Yes and yes. I don't want to sound like a broken record in these threads, but I got rid of Mac Mail shortly after 10.6. It became unstable and unreliable. I gave it another go with 10.8.1 and it was still a problem. IMHO it is a very weak client mail app.
Finally I had peace in going for a web client (gmail) and problems went away.
Just yesterday I spent hours on an unsolveable mail problem on my neighbors iMac. I finally just signed her up for gmail and imported address book and her old email server address. Simple.
