Mail app cant connect to hotmail smtp

hi everyone
I just started using mac in dec
Today, when i try to send an email using the mail app, an error message comes up saying it cannot connect to mail server
But I can receive mail from my hotmail account
I tried looking through some post, most of them only says change the port number which I did, but no luck
So I want to see is there anybody here got the same problem or has a solution to it
Many thx!!!

it might not work with hotmail, but sometimes try unchecking SSL. and also try unchecking the "password" option and put "none"...or some combination of that.
if that doesn't work, you can always configure an smtp server option from your home or university ISP and send emails out through that.
it really doesn't matter, you can send from different smtp and it will still arrive from your hotmail address, although i'm not sure if spam filters will know the difference or not.
perhaps your ISP's are blocking something. i find this to be the case many times believe it or not. you should call the ISP or your tech department to trouble shoot that configuration.
i'm not an expert on this by any means, but i travel a lot in weird countries with slow connections, and i have had all kinds of problems. once, we were in a tiny town with satellite/cable internet access for the whole town. i could send out, but my friend with another mac couldn't.
also, sometimes it has to do with your email provider. but in this case, it's hotmail, so that's doubtful.

    Hello,

  • IPhone Mail App cannot connect with gmail iMap server

So my gmail address list or contacts seems to have been hacked and all my contacts who are still talking to me have told me so.
So I changed my gmail password.
No more complaints, and probably no more friends as contacts.
But seriously, I have been able to get gmail (web) working with my new double authentication password(s). Also, my outlook for MAC is working using the special "generated App Password". (because Outlook cannot do the double authentication thingie)
Ditto for the gmail app from google on my iPhone. (it works too)
    BUT
I cannot get the iPhone Mail App to connect to Gmail.
I have deleted (i thought) my existing gmail setup from my iPhone. When I try to re establish the gmail settings, using either the password generated by the MAC / iCloud keychain generator or the App password, I get the message "My Name" is already added.
It looks to me that there is something in the iPhone that matches my gmail address, even though I deleted the account.
Any suggestions before I call Apple for help?
    Thanks
    Barry

    I think so.
Actually I think I need to get the App Password for Mail on my phone. It generates the app password and I enter it into the password in the gmail setup for mail.
The problem is that when I hit next on that page, I get the message:
"my name" is already added" and I cannot proceed.
Before doing this setup I deleted my gmail account by tapping the email address and hitting delete in the Mail, Contact and Calendars setup..
but, there is something hiding in my iPhone that remembers my old gmail password (I guess) and doesn't let me proceed.
If I enter my gmail iChain password I get the same thing.
If i do this in airplane mode (no connection to google) i also get the same.
I talked to an apple care person who had me reset all my settings... still the same thing.
I am trying to avoid a gull reset of the iPhone, but that may be in the cards.
Going to go to the apple store and ask there, but i am not hopeful.

  • ...Not alone with problems on "Mail" app server connection, iMap!!!!  I believe Apple is strengthening their server farm.  Has been out for over a week; they were wise to have the iCloud also in the cloud.

Have you considered the possibility that the third party fan software might itself be implicated in the issue, theosib (or perhaps something else introduced at about that time?).
My inclination in a situation like this would be to back up your drive to an external, wipe the drive, and do a clean installation. At the very least I'd try an archive and install.
Do you have plenty of free space on the drive? Once you get things down below the last 10 to 20% things can get hairy at times, and may not be fixed as a result of simply freeing up some room, as free space fragmentation is likely to have set in.
As far as RAM goes, either "Rember" - http://www.kelleycomputing.net:16080/rember/ or, better still, but less user friendly, "memtest" - http://www.memtestosx.org/ does a much better job of checking your RAM than the AHT. Still takes a while to run for a thorough test, but much quicker than the approach you are planning on using.
You might also want to use "Activity Monitor" to check for any applications with progressive "memory leaks" or that are acting as CPU hogs, given your symptoms

  • Is my Gmail app on my iphone preventing my mail app from connecting to my gmail account?

Is my Gmail app on my iphone preventing my mail app from connecting to my gmail account?
Whenever I try to type in my information to my Mail app it will not verify my gmail account- it says my username/password is incorrect when it isn't.
    Please help!

it may be a two part security verification.  contact the email provider and see if you need a special password.
some users find simply changing the password resloves the issue.

  • IMac Mail App every sync with Hotmail Mail,Contacts,Cald

Will Apple's iMac Mail App every sync with Hotmail Mail,Contacts,Calendar like the Ipad Mail App Does? I really would like to start uing the iMac Mail App. By the way I'm a first time Mac user.

I have the new 27" that just came out this year and I'm running OSX 10.8.2

  • Mail app constantly freaking out.  SMTP now broken

The mail app on my late 2010 iMac has been acting weird for quite some time.  I tried erasing everything and restarting but the mail app still had some data in it somehow.  I would love a link to information on how to start completely fresh in only Mail without starting the whoel system fresh.
In lieu of this I would love any suggestions on how I might try and fix mail.  It seems to constantly lose messages from mailboxes and I can't find them until I end up rebuilding the mailbox.  Also it is currently telling me that it can't send messages because
The server “mail.mydomain.com” cannot be contacted on the default ports.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent.
Sending from: James Barnett <[email protected]>
It is asking me to select another server but it is listing each one as (offline).  I already went and check the smtp connections authentications and they appear to be fine, I don't know why they are offline.
If I go to webmail for my domain it works and I've sent an email from the web interface, so it leads me to believe it is mail app.
Thanks in advance for any help,

    Chris,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
I think you may have been unlucky with the support rep you got. Comcast is one of the few ISP, that I know of, who provide one SMTP to use when at home, and another when traveling. They even have an advisory page about how to handle this in Apple's Mail program -- see:
    http://www.comcast.com/Support/Corp1/FAQ/Faq22400.html
The one for home use (which would be where you have cable), requires authentication of None. When where SBC is the ISP, then needs authentication.
Please let us know if this allows you to resolve this problem.

Hi, upgraded to 10.5.3 on Thursday night and since then I do not appear to be able to connect to my hotmail e-mails via the mail application. I am also running a plugin for mail called - "daniels httpmail plugin leopard".
The mail application opens but times out and says that it cannot connect to the smtp server - This is by looking at the connection doctor.
Any help would be appreciated as I am very new to Mac's having run on xp before.
    Thanks!

Many of us are having the same problem. Here is the only solution I've found so far.

  • Mail app keep asking for hotmail password

    Hi everyone,
I have two Hotmail,Gmail and other email service providers setup in my Mail app
the problem is only with the Hotmail accounts
The Mail program keep asking continuously - once in awhile - to type the password for the Hotmail email although the password is saved and it is there in the Keychain Access
I tried to create a new keychain in the Keychain Access and moved the passwords there ---> it didn't work after some days it asked me and then it's keep going.
right now when the mail asks for the password I close the program and then reopen it again after doing that It wont ask me for the password till some time - it happens daily -
I read that the problem is from Microsoft server but how it can be where is the iPhone mail works great without asking for Hotmail password
I also checked out Thunderbird app and guess what it worked , it didn't ask me for the Hotmail password !!!
I wonder if anyone managed to get it works fine
    Thanks

I wonder why Thunderbird app is working without the issue that happens to the Mail program
do you think Thunderbird is working great since it's using its own Keychain or database to store the emails password where as the Mail app is using the Keychain Access that comes with the Mac OS X ?
I don't know.  However Hotmail does have some weird non-standard access protocol.  (Well, it's probably a standard, but I don't know any other mail provider using such a protocol.)  It's probably just some tweak that Thunderbird and others have done to force Hotmail to work with their program, but I really don't have any idea.  Other people tell me their apps work so it's just seems to be something between Hotmail and OSX Mail.
Other than OSX Mail, I mostly use Outlook on Windows and Mac.  They do not tell us much either since those being Microsoft products like Hotmail, it would be embarrasing for Microsoft not to make their products work well together.

  • Mail app not connecting to gmail account

    Hi
So I have 2 gmail accounts where our company domain uses gmail for its email service. Mail was working fine on both the accounts till last week.
I had configured both the gmail accounts very easily by just selecting Google on the Mail App on my Macbook Air 7 months back. I just added my email id and my password and the Mail App automatically configured both my accounts.
Last week one of the gmail accounts stopped updating on the Mail app on the Macbook. I was recieving mails on my iPad and iPhone so I knew there was something wrong. The second gmail account was working just fine. I tried various things but that account refused to work. So I deleted that account and tried adding that account back. I could not add that gmail account this time round and kept giving me an invalid username password error or some account not valid error. I go to the online version of Gmail and login with exactly the same information.
Then to probe more I delete the working gmail account and try to add it again. That account also does not seem to be adding now. Same error as the first account. So now I cannot access both my gmail accounts on the mail client.
I just realized that I updated to OSX Mavericks 10.9.2 on 28th Feb and am pretty sure that all this has happened immediately after that.
Anybody else with similar issues? Any ideas on what I should be doing?
    Cheers

  • Mail.app not connecting post 10.5.6 upgrade

Since upgrading to 10.5.6 Mail no longer connects to any of my email accounts, including Exchange server and POP accounts (2). All I get is a timeout window. I have deleted Exchange account and tried to re-enter, but still unable to connect. There is not a connection problem with the machine because Entourage, running on the same machine can still connect (unfortunately had to fire it up when Mail threw in the towel). I have reinstalled OS 10.5.6 but to no avail.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

    G'Day Simon,
Before you upgraded to 10.5.6 did you (and I ask this carefully) by any chance do a backup and repair disk permissions? It's a common question asked by most of the knowledgeable ones on this forum and I must admit I follow that process before I upgrade as too often I read of the sad stories here where problems are encountered.
As a first step have you tried repairing disk permissions since the upgrade?
Have a look at this post too just in case it is relevant.

  • Mail can't connect to my SMTP mail server

Mail 3 is having problems connecting to my email servers after upgrading from Tiger. I have double checked the settings with the service provider settings on their sites and still have problems.
I used Network Utility and that seems to be able to Ping to both SMTP servers. Why is Mail having such a problem?
I even tried deleting my Accounts and starting them from scratch, without any luck.

I have tried several times to fix both my Comcast and 1and1.com email accounts, and neither work. I tried changing the Server port to match the settings both companies say to use in their instructions for Mac's Mail program. Is there something different about Mail 3.0 that is causing so many problems with both accounts?
Comcast says to use Server port 587 with SSL checked on and Password authentication.
smtp.comcast.net still isn't working, even though I get these results from Network Utility's Ping:
    Ping has started ...

  • Ipad mail app won't send hotmail emails

I'm having trouble sending emails from my hotmail account. Every time I try it comes up with "cannot send mail - an error occurred while delivering this message"
I have try closing and reopening the app, rebooting the ipad, removing and adding the hotmail account....all did not work
    Any other ideas?

I had this issue and this was what worked for me, I was using the "hotmail" option.
    1. go to settings
    2. go to mail, contacts, calendars
    3.delete your email from device
    4. click "add account"
    5. there should be different account options, chose "other"
    6. chose "add mail account" and do so
You  should be able to send now, but you might want to check how it updates.  Certain email options used "push"  which lets you know you have a new  email the moment you get it, much like a text message. "Other" only  allows you to have "fetch" which updates every selected amount of  mintues, and "Manual" which does exactly what it says.
    7. It should return you to the mail, contacts, calendars page. Press "Fetch New Data"
    8.  there will be a list of when it will update your email. The less it  updates, the easier it is on battery life. There is a manually option.
    9. If you want to use the actually "Manual" Update schedule then press "Advance" then your account.
    10. There you can chose "Fetch" (which I suggest if you use email a lot and there is a manual option there anyways) or "Manual"
I really hoped this helped! If it did then well....awesome.

  • Ipad 2 apps cant connect to internet after 7.0.6 update

    Hi there can anyone help.
Im using an IPad 2 with wi-fi only and ever since the 7.0.6 update was available, none of my apps seem to connect to the internet (it has been like this as soon as the update became available, both before and after installing).
The browsers seem to work fine, but apps such as facebook, amazon and even the appstore come back with "cannot connect" or "network error"
Anyone have a fix for this?
    Thanks!

I just did this network settings reset, but my problem is persistent.  My iPhone 5 connected to my Airport Extreme perfectly for a long time, then starting about 3 or 4 weeks ago it will not connect.  I have several other iPhone, iPads, Apple TVs and Macs in the household which all connect fine, but for some reason my phone will no longer connect, using all the same settings and login credentials.
When I enter the wireless network password, it seems to accept the password, but never actually connects.  The little windmill icon just runs and runs, never resolving.  It has been this way for weeks now, but only at home, I have no trouble connecting at the coffee shop, airport, or friend's houses.  What's even more strange is that the iphone appears to be receiving an IP address from the router, it just will not communicate internet data.
If anyone has had any luck resolving this problem, your help would be much appreciated.
