Mail causing Sleep Event?

For some time, I've been having a somewhat regular problem where my PowerMac G5 2x2 (Oct. 03) will wake from sleep in response to a mouse or keyboard click, then immediately go back to sleep. After rewaking, everything's normal.
On searching for the line Console shows for this:

Question: is there a way to make Mail wait a few seconds after the OS wakes before checking mail?
Also, I wonder if Time Machine may play a role here, as it often wants to do a backup immediately upon waking.
Seems as if the OS should impose a blackout until a few seconds after the OS is fully awake.

I thought of trying that, but only as a diagnostic. What if I want Mail to check automatically? Why should that cause spurious sleep events?

If you are using Custom Notification XML, make sure to have StaticData element in it. StaticData defines the entitites that can be used in the notification template, and these entities attributes are used to define substitution tokens in the template.

Recognizing dates in mail and adding events to iCal

How do I make OSX recognize dates in mail and add events to iCal?
This works on my laptop, but not my iMac. They have the same new version of OSX and iCal.
I cant figure out what setting makes this work on one machine and not the other.

First make an iCal backup, File > Export > Archive.
Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)
If the issue persists:
Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
__NOTE: Removing these files will remove any shared (CalDAV, exchange, etc.) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.

I've been having problems booting my mac mini for a while. i thought I resolved the issue by re-installing the mini from the boot disks but after trying to upgrade to Leopard its now stuck one more time at the grey apple logo.
Booting in verbose mode everything stops at
Wating on <dict ID="0"><key>IOProviderClass</key><string ID="1">IOResources</string><key>IOResourceMatch</key><string ID="2">boot-uuid-media</string></dict>
USB caused wake event (EHCI)
any thoughts on where I should go from here? Is it a visit straight to a "genius"?

Causing an event in one VI when called from another

Hi All
I wonder if anyone could give me some advice on this. I have a VI, which displays the value of a text control, as a ‘value change’ event using an indicator. If I run this, having checked the ‘update will typing’ parameter for the control, the VI runs as expected and the indicator displays what I type. If I call the VI by reference from another and pass a string to the text control using the Set Control Value [Variant] method, the indicator remains blank, even though I can see the text control is being updated. I’m guessing this is because the event structure is expecting a user generated event which is no longer occurring. Is there any way to re-configure the code so that a value passed in this way, would be seen as an event? I've tried to get some idea from the Labview examples but not being too familiar with the way events work, I'm struggling to make sense of it. (I’m using Labview 7.1)

Yes, your first paragraph is correct. Pass the ref to the subvi and use Value(Sgnl) property node in the subvi. This causes an event for the control, and since it is a reference, the event gets carried to the source of the reference, which is in Main.
To pass control references (or any object) to a subvi that is called by reference, you can use the Call by Reference method as shown in the attached Main vi. This allows you to pass items into and out of the subvi called by reference. If you use the standard way and use GetControlValue and SetControlValue, I don't think you can cause an event in Main by changing a value in the subvi. If you use the method in my vi, you can use the Value(Sgnl) property in the subvi to cause an event in the Main vi. This is the only way I know how to send events from a subvi to the main.
Download the subvi first and put it in some directory. Then download the main and put it in the same directory as the subvi. Then when you open Main, it should find the subvi.

Mail based on event raise

Hi guys,
New to SAP CPS, but need help in setting up the mail alerting based on following scenario:
Job chain contains 3 jobs: job_a, job_b, job_c. Custom mail definition is job_mail.
Path flow job_a->job_b->job_c.
Now in the chain flow, let us assume job_a works fine, job_b fails, the customer scenario is such that even if the job_b fails, the job_c should run. But job_b on error status should raise event say “EV_SendEmail”. My custom defined job_mail runs on wait event "EV_SendEmail" should run on the raise of this event. The job currently runs, sends out the email, but sends the job log and the job id of this job “job_mail”. Not the job_b’s id or the job_b’s log file.
How do I make this scenario work?

Mail causes Finder/Dock to hang

Immediately after updating to iTunes 9.0.2 (25) I find that opening Apple Mail causes the Dock to refuse to open, and the computer (MacPro, early 2009, OS 10.6.1) must be rebooted to access any Finder functions.

Did you also run repair disk from your software install DVD? That is not the same thing as permission repair.
If you have done that and it did not help, rebuild the mailbox(s) in the Mail application. Then try trashing a couple of preference files and restarting.

Mail prevents sleep and causes permanent disc activity

Hello!
Since some time my Macbook Pro won't sleep automatically when Mail is open, regardless of battery use or plugged in. Before upgrading to Lion, this was not an issue.
As soon as I quit Mail, it goes to sleep after the specified time. Other programs do not seem to interfer with sleep.
I noted that the disc is spinning and working constantly.
pmset -g does not show any abnormal results:

After some lengthy protocol studies I noticed that the file activity kept going back to a specific group of attachments. I re-checked in mail and deleted the problematic mail. Since then I did not notice any more suspicious file activity in fs_usage for mail.
What remains is the issue of the sleep timer and the mail retrieving rhythm:
When I now set the Mail timer for retrieving mail to 5 mins and leave the sleep timer at 10 mins, the computer does not go to sleep. Setting Mail to 15 mins and sleep to 10 mins the macbook eventually goes to sleep - as at some point the mail timer has to be slower than the sleep timer.
So this solves the issue for me but leaves me with a less frequent mail retrieval. Oh well...
Maybe this helps someone else with a similar problem!

Mail not sending Event to iCal after upgrade

I did the same as everyone else and upgraded as soon as I saw the message to upgrade mobileme ical. Now when I try to create an event in iCal using a date in an email after clicking on "Add To iCal" the popup just freezes. I've quited and rebooted Mail as well as iCal and no luck.
Anyone else have this issue? Better yet, did anyone else find out how to fix it?
With 4 boys I rely on that convenience big time!

The general approach at this time is to ask if you've checked for any problematic fonts (all languages) with Apple's Font Book (look in the Applications folder). Find and remove all duplicates also.
Start there to be sure all fonts that are in play come out with a clean bill of health.
Don't hesisate to perform wholesale deletion of old and/or little used fonts - be skeptical of anything that has come from Office 2008, including those related to an Equation Editor installation.
By all means be sure any 3rd party apps AND plug-ins are Snow Leopard compatible.
An additional measure is to clear the existing font caches:

How can I change a Mail To Do event to a different calendar?

Hi all,
When I receive invites from work colleagues in Mail.app they show up in iCal notifications for accept/maybe/reject (or whatever the terms are) actions. All good.
However, when I accept them, I'm unable to save them in a "work" calendar. They seem to automatically get saved in the "On My Mac" - "Mail To Do" location and there is no facility to change the calendar.
Would appreciate if anybody could shed some light on the "Mail To Do" calendar type and how others go about creating events in a work calendar when accepting invites.

Sorry, no solution here, just another 'me too'. This only popped up in the last couple of months. It's mainly sending me spare when I get an invite from another person and it adds it to this 'Mail To Do' calendar (under 'On My Mac' in iCal) automatically and I'm unable to move it to a calendar that gets synced with my phone. I've missed a number of meetings because of this problem.

Viewing Sent Mail Causes Mail to Quit Unexpectedly

I am on an iMac, OS X 10.6.8 using Mail 4.5. I have two different email accounts that I use. No problems with sending messages, but I can not view the copy in the Sent folder for either mailbox. When I try to open a Sent message, Mail crashes with a message 'Mail has quit unexpectedly' and no other information. I really need to access copies of my Sent messages! This happens with both email accts.

I have this too and it's driving me crazy. Wish some expert could address it, 'cause I'm not finding solutions anywhere.
Bit since you posted about this a long time ago, did you figure a fix? Do you remember what it was?

Can't fetch mail after sleep

I have a really annoying problem with an iMac and can't just figure out what's wrong:
Since mid December this iMac (model 11,1: 2.66Ghz core i5/OS 10.6.5) has been dropping the network connections when it's waken up from sleep mode.
If you try to hit the "Get mail" button after that, Mail tells +"the connection to the server 'nnn' on port 995 timed out."+
It doesn't matter if youre using port 995 or 110, they both are allowed on the server we're using and there's no problems with the rest of the Macs in our office with similar Mail and Network configurations.
And the computer drops the connection to our file server at the same time as well. The OS is up-to-date.

I have exactly the same problem on Snow Leopard with Mail 4.5 except re-booting doesn't work. even re-installing Mail has made no difference.

Flip4mac/quicktime causes sleep problems

I installed Flip4mac and when i try to watch YouTube the computer spontaneously goes to sleep. I uninstalled and it stopped, but it's caused me so much grief in the past that it started happening when i used quicktime among other things and i had to reinstall my system software.
Does anyone know why this would happen? Is it definitely Flip4mac or is something else going on with my system?
What would cause the computer to just sleep in the middle of multimedia?
I've had hardware checked and cleared of problems twice.

I don't believe there's anything in Flip4Mac code that sends commands to the system like that.
Do you have a "hot" corner set up for screen saver? Maybe there's something goin on there. Do you have a schedule set up for sleep in energy saver?
Try this simple test; create a new user account and head over to youtube. Then playback something and see what happens. If things work without sleeping, then there's something in your primary user account causing the weirdness.

Report Viewer refresh event causing window event problems

I have a winform with a report viewer control and a couple of grids. When a cell in one of the grids is edited the report gets refreshed (when focus is lost from the cell) this refresh appears to empty the event stack for the whole window.
For example if I edit the cell then click the ok button the report refreshes and the button click event is lost.
Also if I edit the cell and click on the report viewer then the grid itself stops firing events outside its control.
Can anyone explain this behaviour so I can work around it?

I am handling the celledited event on the grid (janus gridEX control) which fires when the focus is lost from the grid and the user has edited something.
The event code calls viewer.RefreshReport() which successfully updates the report with the new data (via the common dataset both use as a data source).
This is all running in a dialog box.
The problem occurs when the user edits the grid and then immediately clicks the ok button. The call to RefreshReport seems to stop the button click event firing.
The second problem occurs when the user edits the cell then clicks on the report viewer to cause the celledited event to fire and the report to refresh. Everything seems to work fine however if the user tries to edit a cell again the celledited event does not fire anymore unless you click on another row in the grid itself. This behaviour only happens when clicking on the CR viewer when clicking any other control the behaviour is as expected.
Whilst the CR viewer may not directly be the problem something is occuring when it is refreshed and I would like to understand what is happenening to cause the strange behaviour.

Attachment to mail and Weekly events in cakendar

Please Apple stop making IOS look beautiful and start giving us functional and practical apps. Why can we still not add attachments from within an email? And please please if I add a new event and select repeat Weekly why does it STIL NOT GIVE ME DAYS OF THE WEEK TO REPEAT? I am a personal trainer and clients train same time on dif days. Now I have to create dif events for each session.

I've checked all the settings and everything is fine.
The problem is with sending attachment.When we are sending mail without attachment, it is working fine.
Also attachment is getting generated perfectly.I can see the attchment at work item of mail send through SWI1.
One more point I want to add that attachment is in pdf format.
