Mail doesn't function well enough to continue using as primary program for email management

I have been a loyal Mac user for over 8yrs, and I honestly can say I dislike all other competition products out on the market, whether it be types of computers, and computer software...
So it pains me to say, that it is most disappointing to find that, now since I ensured all my devices (iphone + ipad) and computers (laptop + desktop) has Lion OS X, and IOS 5, and I set up my iCloud, I have for the first time made use of Mail, and iCloud, in order to use personal, but more importantly business email accounts, and have them set up through Mail on all my computers.
Unfortunately, there seems to leave a bit to be desired.
Often, I feel like, all the devices are not synced identically, and it would be better for me to look at Mail on each device/computer and have it look the same, showing the same drafts, the same sent mail, etc...sometimes this is not the case, and it makes for confusion, and also ends up creating an unprofessional feel for our customers, if we can not be efficient with our email communications.
Also, a lot of the time, emails dont get sent...as an example, one of my business email accounts set up through mail, will work, receiving mail in the inbox, however when it comes to sending email responses, the mail sometimes get stuck in the outbox, and I have to close mail down, and repoen, sometimes more than once in order to get mail to successfully send that mail.
It just feels like mail still has some bugs being worked out, and I really hope to see more updates, helping this program to work more efficiently, otherwise I will have to opt out of using a combo of Mail and iCloud, and opt rather for an outside server to host Outlook, in order to accomodate a more professional emailing system.....and I prefer to use the former rather than having to opt for the latter.... I rather have everything flowing in one well oiled Mac system, across all my devices/computers.

If I set the default program for viewing PDF as Acrobat XI Pro the a PDF file will open with Acrobat XI Pro, but in Outlook I will get a white screen and the information bubble "This file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it" and in Windows Explorer I get a white screen in the preview pane.
My Acrobat version is 11.0.10
I am running Windows 7 Professional with Service Pack 1
My Internet Explorer is Version 11.0.9600.17691
Update Versions 11.0.17 (KB3032359)
I am running Microsoft Office 2013

Applications seem to be running slower on Lion & Mail doesn't work well

My applications like iPhoto, Safari, and Mail all seem to be running slower and slower. They were lightning-like right after I installed Lion, but now it seems to be running more slowly every day terrible. Reloading a page or opening a new tab in Safari is Very S L O W....and iPhoto seems to go into a loop or something, and takes forever to come out of it.
We also installed a Time Capsule, so maybe that's the problem, but does anyone else have suggestions on things we should do to improve performance?
The other - bigger - problem is sending mail. I keep getting the message that "cannot send mail on the selected server," and that it has timed out. It's the server I have been using, so I am baffled. The name of the server is smtp.me.com:myusername
Should I change it??? but to what????
Can you tell I'm a total novice at trouble-shooting? Well...I am! so I sure hope someone can help.

That's assuming PS was build to not do it. Scratch disks and display tiles are a fundamental principle of the program and I don't consider them a workaround for anything. You know, over in the video apps forums we poor souls have been begging for years that After Effects would be half as smart as PS in that regard. I also tend to think that your alleged "do it all in RAM" would fall apart as soon as you begin to deal with a number of images and document sizes that exhaust that RAM. One might say that in foreseeable time RAM will be so dirt cheap, that 32GB machines will be commonplace even for home users, but it's not there yet. And then it's the question: Do I burn 1000 Watts of electricity even in idle state just to work on a monster machine with lots of RAM or do I use just 300 Watts on a normal system with a scratch disk and energy saving options. It's the same gag as with multicore processors or those monstrous graphics cards (Quadro CX, anyone?): the marketing may tell you, you need those things, but it must not necessarily do anything for your personal workflow. Those arguments really have no value if this Quadro CX has nothing to do most of the time or of 16 cores only 1 barely even peaks while you paint and likewise you wouldn't need those tons of RAM, if all you ever do is adjusting a few photos from digital cameras. You have to differentiate between "average" users and extreme "power users", but nowhere is it written that 1% of power users must or can dictate what's good for the 99% other users, a dilemma software devs face every day... I would tend to think that 64bit and its possible advantages are in fact very low on the list for those 99% of users, but other things are much more important to them.

My mail doesn't work well...

I found 3 very serious problems using Mail 3.0.
1. My mail service provider is using a POP3. but after i set up everything correctly. i still get the message from the Mail 3.0 as the following:
“There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account “pop3.vip.sina.com” or try again.
The server error encountered was: The connection to the server “smtp.vip.sina.com” on port 110 timed out.”
which is really really strange. because when i use other app to get mail, everything works fine.
2. When i receive emails with Simplified Chinese content from other people, i cannot read either, all the Chinese characters become question mark, no matter what do i choose in the Text Encoding menu.
3. When i send Simplified Chinese content email to Windows user, sometimes they cannot read because the emails are full of strange code.
Is there anyone who can help me? THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

How long have you been having problems with your email service from them? While they might claim that Mail is the problem, that's a lie; Mail has been around for more than 20 years and has no documented problems with connecting to servers. The standard response for clueless email providers and web hosts is to blame Apple, when the real fault is right in front of them.
You cannot be the only user of Mail for their email service, so the problem almost certainly lies with how their servers and software are setup to work. I'd call them and speak only to a senior manager who actually knows what they're doing and talking about and see if they can't help you resolve this problem.
I don't use any web hosting service, so I can't suggest any alternatives for you.

I updated to firefox 9.0.1 and my yahoo mail doesn't work with firefox. This is a serious issue for me.

A few days ago I updated to firefox 9.0.1, and when I am using firefox in the My Yahoo account, I can see my emails, but when I click on one to open it, I am asked to put in my password for yahoo. This shouldn't occur because it already know who I am because I can see my name there and my emails etc. When I put in my password it doesn't accept it.

The location bar is also known as the address bar, it is where you enter web addresses.

Can you use a text field for email sender with E-mail button

basically i would like to use input information from the user when someone sends an email instead of the default which is to look for a third party e-mail program like outlook. I want to bypass that and possibly use a text field that has the user input their email. some people don't use outlook so it would be nice to bypass that somehow. Is there a way to send email without the whole outlook thing, like not needing a "sender" and instead require them to input email address. I just want to receive the pdf. I am using LIVECYCLE by the way.

You can't use MS Office on the iPad as Microsoft haven't made app versions of their programs (you can only use apps that are in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app on the iPad), but there are apps that support word, excel and powerpoint documents. The options include Apple's Pages app for Word documents, Numbers for Excel spreadsheets and Keynote for Powerpoint. And from third-parties apps such as Documents To Go ('premium' version) and QuickOffice Pro HD.
As to how you then get the file to your chosen app will depend upon what the app supports - different apps will have different ways of copying their content to/from a computer e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to your computer's iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc

A web site that I use daily has disappeard from my "Most Visited" list. In spite of my continued use of the site plus deletion of other sites that I seldom use, thus making room on the list for the site I want to be listed there, it doesn't.

A bookmarked web site for weather that I use daily - often more than once a day - has disappeared from my Most Visited list. Your browser has been hijacked. You can test it by going to any search site besides scroogle and looking up antivirus, malware removal, or any other term like that. It will show you the results but you wont be able to go to any of those pages. In my opinion this is the worst kind of virus because it is so hard to get rid of. You'll remove it and it will self replicate and you'll have it again. Scroogle works because it acts as a proxy between you and the search site google. Follow that guys directions who replied before me. When that doesn't work try to get a copy of Stopzilla antivirus. I had my browser hijacked once and that got rid of it. If that doesnt work, download the Comodo web browser. They give away a month of free Geekbuddy assistance with their browser. Use it. Chances are you will have to contact an IT proffesional of some sort anyway. But you'll never feel really clean again and you'll become paranoid about using the web and you'll get every popup blocker and java script stopper there is. But that still won't be enough and you'll dump windows altogether becuase there just are'nt that many viruses that work on Linux.... oh wait.. that was me...

Will Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo perform well enough with Mainstage.

I normally keep each of my macs for about 4-5 years before upgrading, and its about that time for me. I currently have a 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB Ram, and am leaning towards getting a new 27 inch imac for my home studio. My alternative is getting the 15 inch mac book pro retina, which I could still hook up to a large display at home, but also use for live performances.
My question is has anyone had any experience running Mainstage (2 or 3) on a Core 2 Duo, and does it run it well enough to process reverb and maybe chorus for one vocalist, and a couple of guitar effects for an acoustic guitar?
The reason I'm leaning towards the iMac, is because my configuration will likely be $400-600 less expensive than the macbook pro retina, the size of the screen, and the ease of not having to plugging a laptop into all my peripherals whenever I enter my studio. This will only be viable however, if my macbook pro is capable of handling mainstage duties.
A couple of notes, I'm aware I can always get a external monitor for a macbrook pro, but am interested to hear anyone elses experience with either an intel core 2 duo running Mainstage, or your experience using an iMac vs a Macbook pro for your home studio.

I have a mid-2009 MBP with a 2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo with 8 GB of RAM and MainStage 3.0.1 runs very well. I recently played a pit orchestra job with Alicia's Keys as my primary piano sound from within MainStage and there were no problems (I did alias the patch throughout the show but that's just good resource useage).
I suspect you would have a similar experience on your current hardware. Buy MainStage and try it out. Its only $30 or so and you can run it on any Mac you own so you really won't waste the money.

Konsole doesn't view well when I zoom the window of konsole

I'm using KDE 4.8.4.Konsole can maximize / restore well.But it doesn't zoom well.When I zoom the window,konsole cannot view well.Sometimes it is white,or transparent.
But when I change the window decorations of kwin to others like qtcurve.It works well.When the window decorations is Oxygen.It doesn't work well.
I'm using catalyst,konsole 2.8.4.What should I do?Why does it happen?

cor-el, thanks for your suggestions, I've just tried with safe mode(by starting FF with "shift" held down), but things still don't work well. However, I did get some findings:
* In either Safe or normal mode, when only 1 window of multiple tabs: if close window via "X" or "File"->"Exit", then no prompt.
* In either Safe or normal mode, when 2 windows of multiple tabs:
* * If close either window via "X", then it shows prompt :-)
* * If close either window via "File"->"Exit", still no prompt.
In all, 2 FF windows seem to work well for "X" button.
I didn't try w/ more windows open, maybe same as 2 windows I guess.

+*I'm using 15 inch MacBook Pro which i purchase on June 2008, Ok here is my problem that I'm facing, lately my multi touch pad not functioning well it can be use only on safari other then that it unable to use at any-other folders or places. Like normally I'm able large the picture by using the multi touch pad but now i can only use it on safari to larger the font size. Do i need to update my Multi Touch Pad? What do i have to do? It appears that you're tocuhpad is causing some issues. I will attempt to assist you with this.
If this is a new notebook, make sure you've run all Windows updates and completed any updates listed in the HP Support Assistant.
Something may address that issue.
This may also have something that could help you: Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 8).
If you need further assistance could you please provide the Model and Product numbers for your notebook.

Email from iphoto always starts mail app and wants ,mac info - i dont use

I am trying to send photos from iphoto however it always defaults to mail and wants a .mac logon however i use entourage via exchange for my email. Please help as i have to manually find the pic and attach to entourage i am sure their is a better way.

In iPhoto preferences, the General (default) tab has a menu near the bottom "Email pictures using" and "Mail" is the default. You can change that to Entourage, and it will then default to Entourage.

First things first:
Update your profile (equipent, OSX, etc)
In Lion MS office2004 is not compatible, are you stIll using it?
Do the SMC RESET and do the PRAM reset.

These fixes have helped others, depending on the situation.
Have an up-to-date Time Machine or other backup before attempting any major software updates or rebuilds.

Make sure your software is up to date.
Apple > Software Update...
A general repair to fix odd behaviors in Mail is Mailbox > Rebuild.
Try booting in Safe Mode.
          Boot and when you hear the bong hold down the Shift key.
          It will boot slowly. Be patient.
          Login the the user account.
          Restart.
Another fix:
Shut down Mail.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Copy and paste the following
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/
Click Go.
Move all "Envelope" files to your desktop.
Restart Mail and let it convert/reindex your mailboxes.
If this worked, Trash the Envelope files file that are on your desktop,
if not shut down Mail and put them back.
Another fix:
Shut down Mail.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Copy and paste the following:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.mail/Cache.db
Click Go.
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac and try Mail.
Another fix:
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Copy and paste the following
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/
Click Go.
Move all the Accounts.plist to your desktop.
Restart Mail.
If this worked, Trash the Accounts.plist file that is on your desktop,
If not shut down Mail and put it back.
You can try restoring mail from a Time Machine backup.
Hold down the Option key and in the Finder Go > Library
Enter Time Machine.
Select a date and time from when Mail was working.
Restore Mail.
