Mail Duplicate Issue

I have a strange issue with my clean install of Mavericks. I set up my two email accounts and emails were imported both using IMAP. I have an issue with emails received from this Apple Support Community that is it. They are doubling every message. But the amount of emails in the column is the correct but within the conversation each message is doubled. These emails go to my yahoo account and accessing the email through yahoo doesn't show these duplicates, so that means something within Mac Mail is causing these duplicated messages within these conversations. As you can see in the attached image the conversation states 2 emails within its contents. However looking on the right the total is 4 (number in top right corner) because every message is doubled. Any help in resolving this would be appreciated. Already deleted the account and recreated and resulted in same results.

Last time I saw the number on my machine it said something like 96 of 96 messages. None of my local folders have 96 messages in them, and I don't think any messages actually downloaded at that time.
Could be that there are messages still on the server that the iMac has already downloaded. Is your machine configured to delete messages from the server after downloading? It could be that you have that many on the server that have already been downloaded.
I just checked my account setup, and for the two I use I clicked the button saying "Delete now" to remove previously downloaded messages from the server. Now it's grayed out so maybe that is what the number represents.

  • Transport Mail Database issues crashing Transport service

We are experiencing frequent issues on Hub servers (as often as once a week) where Transport Mail DB issues crash the Transport service.  Had an MS specialist in the other day who could not exactly figure out the root cause.  The pattern usually is as follows:
    1. Event ID 486 - This event refers to a failure to move a log file (associated with Transport Mail DB queues) because it is being used by another process.  What that process could be is unknown.
    2. Event ID 413 - Unable to create a new logfile because the database cannot write to the log drive.
    3. Event ID 492 - The logfile sequence in <dir> has been halted
    4. Event ID 17019 - A database operation has encountered a I/O error. The Microsoft Exchange Transport service is shutting down. Exception details: Microsoft.Exchange.Isam.IsamLogWriteFailException: Failure writing to log file (-510)
Also followed by events 7001,1022,1002, and 1003.
Haven't been able to determine what is causing Event ID 486.  Not aware of any process that would be tying up the access to the log file.  These queue files are stored on a local disk, not a SAN.
Any ideas as to what could be causing this?  Running E2K7SP1 Rollup 2 currently on all Exchange systems.

    Hi,
I suggest that you use the following method to check which process access the log file indicated in the event 486:
    Using Process Explorer
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx
    Then, we did the following:
    1. Launch Process Explorer
    2. Click Find, Find Handle or DLL
    3. Enter the log name indicated in the event 486 and click Search
In addition, please also check whether any events such as 150004 occur before the Transport service crashes. If you notice the event, I also suggest that you refer to the following article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb201658(EXCHG.80).aspx

I read online that someone called apple(similar service) and they were sending a replacement but his said original as well. So is my ipod touch 5g going to be fixed or not? I couldn't listen to headphones because the jack broke. How hard is it for them to test putting some earpods in??

No one here can know what you tried when you don't say. Experience has shown that many people can overlook what we might think to be obvious troubleshooting steps, so many of us offer any suggestion we think might help when it's not mentioned explictly by the questioner as having been tried.
There is therefore no reason for you to be rude to lllaass, you not having said anything about what you had tried. S/he has done his/her best to try and be of help. No one here gets paid to help you, so it pays to be polite if you have any hope of getting help in the future.

  • Mail app issues

This is more of a Mail app issue, and I've posted the question on that board, but I thought I'd post it here because I'm hoping some admins might have dealt with a similar issues:
Is anyone having success with clients on Network Homes using Leopard's Mail.app and an IMAP server?
Things used to work on the same client machines under Tiger, but after upgrading them to Leopard, Mail.app flat out refuses to work.
Users with portable homes seem to have better luck.
    Some symptoms:
after working fine for 15-20 seconds, preview pane gets stuck on a "Loading" message. Double-clicking the same email opens it just fine in a separate window.
auto-fill of addresses in the To: field doesn't work. (The little circle on the right just keeps spinning.)
Mail.app does not pull any new incoming messages.
Mail.app refuses to quit cleanly. Force-quitting is the only way to make it quit
Mail.app randomly needs to "Quit or Quit and Rebuild" the database.
    Thanks.

  • Mail duplicates mailboxes

Just upgraded to Tiger and now Mail duplicates my .Mac Account, giving me one mailbox with that name, besides my actual account name. Can't get rid of either. When trying to deactivate in Preferences it won't save because both have the same account path ! What to do?

Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folderto the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Reboot, then in Mail highlight each Inbox & choose Rebuild from the Mailbox menu item.

  • Mail Duplicates IMAP account Snow Leopard

    Hey everyone-
I'm getting duplicate emails on an IMAP account- I know there is another post about this issue, but it seems to mostly pertain to POP emails, but nothing I've read or seen on this forum or any other has yet helped me. Also I don't know if my situation is exactly the same as the others. I will try to include all factors that may (or may not) be relevant.
-Model and OS, you can see in my signature line.
-IMAP email account that worked previously in Leopard. Also, this email account works perfectly on wife's macbook using the exact same settings. This account works on iPhone 3GS, on Thunderbird for XP and Outlook for XP. Further, this email account works on a seperate user account I created on my MBP just to test Mail.
-When I try to mark the duplicate emails as "read" from within Mail, there is a squiggly upward arrow that appears next to the message-I'm assuming Mail is trying to tell me something-anybody know what?
-I have done the following with no result: deleted cache, verified/repaired disk permissions, deleted and added mail account (multiple times, including Library files related to this account), restarted in "safe" then restarted again (per Apple tech support), and reinstalled Mail directly from SL disk (again multiple times).
-Since I'm beginning to think its related to my specific user account, it may also matter that this user account has been migrated from iBook G4 12" 1.33 Tiger, then to this MBP Leopard when it had a 200GB HDD, upgraded to SL, then again to the 500GB HDD.
I'm at my wit's end. Willing to take any measure, including completely removing Mail itself. Every mail account I use is IMAP or Exchange, it would be a pain to have to put them all back on (I use like 6 emails accounts), but anything to get Mail working again.
    Peace
    Curtis

I should also mention deleting preferences files, and that this is NOT a gmail account.

  • Exchange Server 2003/2010 Coexistence Mail-flow Issues

    I've installed Exchange 2010 in a 2003 coexistence scenario.
2010 was deployed with CAS,HUB, and Mailbox roles.
The installation went through smoothly, and the default RGC was created.
On the 2010 Server, when I create a new users with mailbox, that user is no able to send or receive mail from anywhere.
2010 user to 2010 user does not work
2003 user to 2010 user does not work
Mail delivery between 2003 users works fine.
The RGC message queue in ESM 2003 shows that the messages are queued and keep retrying.
I have deleted the RGC twice and created new ones, I have un-installed the HUB and CAS roles and re-installed them, and I have also re-run setup /preparead and setup /preparelegacyexchangepermissions
I'm not able to make any sense of the message tracking on the 2010 side. It just shows a bunch of entries:
    EventID: NOTIFYMAPI
    Source: STOREDRIV
When I use the best practices analyzer to test mailflow to a 2010 user from the outside, the test comes back with a pass even though the message itself isn't delivered to the specified mailbox.
There is no smart host defined on the default SMTP virtual server on 2003.
There is no SMTP Send Connector for External or Internal mail configured on 2003 besides the 2010 RGC
    Any ideas?

As long as you cannot send email between ex2010 users this has nothing to do with connectors/smtp config..
I had the same issue one year ago and solved adding both sevrers to old/new exchange sevrers security groups.
Looks like for some missing security entry (not sure why) mailbox is unable to conact HUB  (MSExchangeMailSubmission) I expect you seing items stuck in draft for owa (outbok for outlook)
I saw in some blogs similar cases solved by setting static DNS servers for HUB severs config.
Yes that is similar to what I'm experiencing.
When using the Outlook client with a 2010 mailbox the mail leaves the outbox fine. When using OWA new messages just get saved as drafts when I try to send them.
I will try your suggestions. I see two groups. Exchange Domain Servers, and Exchange Enterprise Servers of which Exchange Domain Servers is a member.

  • Tiger Mail - Serious issues?

    Hi all,
I have just recently emigrated to Tiger from Panther and immediately found some weird issues with Mail 2. Reading the other posts in this forum led me think there might be something fundamentally erratic with the app itself.
I use email several hours per day at work, and if I loose my emails, I basically loose evertyhing and can start looking for another job.
    Here's what I've got:
    1) Frequently (several times a day) I loose sight of ALL emails in the Mail viewer window in ALL mailboxes. It seems I have no emails of whatsoever. However, I might get a text on the top of the mailbox viewer saying, like: "0 messages, 10 unread". When I relaunch the app, all messages are back again. Knock on wood.
    2) When deleting messages from local mailboxes, they disappear instantly. They do not end up in the Trash - On My Mac mailbox, as I guess they should. I've read other people having erratic behaviour on deleting messages or emptying the Trash (messages randomly disappearing, etc). Is this a variation on the same theme?
    3) Mail has stopped reading some of my email account passwords from the Keychain, but prompts instead me to write (and remember!) them everytime I launch the app.
    4) When upgrading from Panther to Tiger and launching the Mail for the first time, the app is supposed to import all the old mailboxes and the messages residing in them, right? Well, this just didn't happen. I got two POP accounts and two local mailboxes, which had most, if not all, of their messages lost after the upgrade. All the IMAP accounts, however, were ok.
I still have the previous Panther system as a back up clone on a FW HD. I duplicated the original mailboxes on the Panther disk and re-imported them using the "Import Mailboxes" command in Mail. To my suprise the messages were still not imported. I got an inbox of 2000+ emails, for example, and I got about 100 of them imported. I started to become hysterical at this point. The issue was finally solved by importing the mailboxes by selecting the "Other" box in the import window as a source of data, instead of "Mail", and voila, all thousands of messages were appropriately rescued.
(Btw, luckily I had duplicated the original mailboxes before starting to import, as my first import attempts had deleted / emptied the source mailboxes, even though the contents were not appropriately imported. If I had been trying to import directly from the original mailboxes on the Panther clone (not from the duplicates), I would have lost my emails for good.)
I've got several mailboxes (over 10 accounts + local archive boxes), and as mentioned, the email app is the most important daily tool for me, notwhitstanding all that creativity that is going on here with all the other fancier apps.
I wonder if anyone could give a helping hand? Any suggestions how to repair Mail 2? Or if Mail is beyond repair, which other email app would be suitable for heavy pro use?
I'd hate to start using Entourage or the like, but this scary and disappointing experience with Mail 2 has made be consider going non-Apple. Regrettably so.
    Thanks for any help!
    jhv
    PB G4 800   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi jhv.
The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken. Take a look at the following thread to better understand the problem:
Help! "You need to take this account online in order to download it."
In particular, you may want to take a look at the following article (also referenced in that thread) to learn what you might have done before migrating to minimize the risk of this happening, and what you may do after fixing the problems to avoid similar issues from happening in the future. DON'T do now what the article suggests, though, as that would make things worse in the current situation:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
Although it seems you've successfully imported your old mail, it looks like you've done that without fixing whatever was amiss in your Mail folder as a result of the failed conversion, and I bet it's all a mess now.
The following procedure is an example of how to fix conversion problems in the Inbox of a POP account. Similar procedures can be used to fix conversion problems in other mailboxes:
    1. Quit Mail.
    2. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. Create a new folder on the Desktop and name it however you wish (e.g. Inbox Old). It doesn't need to have an .mbox extension.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/.
    5. Move the mbox file out of INBOX.mbox and into the Inbox Old folder just created on the Desktop. This file contains all the messages that were in the mailbox before the upgrade to Tiger (maybe even some messages that had been deleted).
    6. Move any strangely-named Messages-XXXXXX folder to the Desktop (not into the Inbox Old folder). These folders are to be deleted after fixing the problem. They are temporary folders created during an import or a re-indexing process, and Mail should have deleted them when done. Their presence is a clear indication that something didn't work as expected. If you've been using Mail after the conversion and have already tried to fix the problem by rebuilding the mailbox or something like that, they might contain messages that are neither in Messages proper nor in the mbox file, so keep them around until the problem is fixed.
    7. Move everything else within INBOX.mbox, except the Messages folder, to the Trash.
The result of the above should be that INBOX.mbox contains the proper Messages folder only, and the Inbox Old folder on the Desktop contains the mbox file only. Now, proceed as follows:
    8. Open Mail.
    9. The account's Inbox should properly display in Mail as many messages as *.emlx files are in ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/Messages/. If that's not the case, select the mailbox in Mail and do Mailbox > Rebuild.
    10. In Mail, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Other as the data format, and follow the instructions to import the Inbox Old folder that's on the Desktop. Do with the imported mail whatever you wish. You may move to the account's Inbox the messages that Mail failed to convert properly, and delete those that did get through and, hence, are duplicates now.
The following collection of AppleScripts has a Remove Duplicates script that can be useful for removing duplicate messages:
    http://homepage.mac.com/aamann/Mail_Scripts.html
If all is well and you're not missing anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Ask for any clarifications or if you need further assistance.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.

  • Apple Mail duplicate messages

    Hi all,
For the past month or so, I have been getting duplicate messages for all incoming emails in a specific account when using Apple Mail. The account uses exchange. My gmail account does NOT have this problem in Apple Mail. I had this problem in Leopard, and it has continued despite upgrading to Snow Leopard.
I also installed a Time Capsule at around the same time the duplicates started appearing, and in other posts on this forum some have suggested the problem is with the Time Capsule. However, the same users that stated this (and said that Apple support was able to fix the problem) did not provide an answer about exactly how to fix this issue.
Since it appears that I am not alone in having this problem, perhaps it would be useful if somebody who found a solution via talking with Apple Support could share the solution here? Or any other suggestions?
    Thanks!

I would suggest that you post in the Apple.com > Support > Discussions > Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard > Mail and Address Book instead of this (Time Capsule) area.

  • Deleted Mail duplicates itself

Whenever I delete an email, it duplicates itself as a unopened new email.
How do I stifle this annoyance, or is it some script/code written into the sender's email. Doesn't happen with all email, but nearly all, and especially if I signed up for alerts from somewhere (i.e. comments to video I have posted on YouTube).
    Thanks in advance.

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there's enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it's running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong -- e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
    4. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be "imported". Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index -- Mail says it's "importing", but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.

  • Mail duplication issue

I'm sure there is an answer somewhere on the forums. I have searched but can't find what I am looking for. I will try to explain the issue that I am having and maybe someone will be able to help in some way. Thanks in advance.
Ok, I use the Mac OS X Mail program along with the MobileMe Mail site. I have used 3 different web browsers and three different operating systems trying to figure out what in the world is going on.
The problem that I am having a problem that I can't really explain. I have tried to delete some of my mail only to have it come back into my inbox as new. Each time I do this the message duplicates itself. The connection from my OS X Mail program times out to the server. The MobileMe Mail site has an unexpected error message with no error message number or any explanation.
I have tried deleting all mail folders, preference files and anything else that I could find on my Mac. I have cleaned the cache and cookies and everything else in each browser. None of these ideas worked. I do not know the cause but I do know it is very annoying.
If anyone has any idea or explanation it would be greatly appreciated. I'm to the point now where I want to switch to a different email provider.
    Thanks...

Ok, I need to rephrase what I said but I can't seem to edit it. The mail is coming back in as new from MobileMe to Apple Mail program. On the site I keep hitting either an unexpected error with no explanation or a server connection error. The MobileMe site is slower than molasses also. I don't know if it's my connection (3Meg internet) or if it is a server thing or if I just have too many messages archived.

  • Sender Mail Adapter issue

    Hi All,
We are getting this error in Sender Mail adapter.
"exception caught during processing mail message; java.net.ConnectException: A remote host refused an attempted connect operation"
It is a (Lotus Notes) Mail to File scenario.
Used POP3, and gave the URL as POP:// ** .
I have tried pinging the server and getting a good response.
I have also tried the OS01 ans it returned a response : Program Terminated.
I am not sure if the POP3 port is enabled.
Are there any check points we are missing ?
Please throw some light on this as we need to solve this asap ..

    Shabarish is right.
This seem a connectivity issue. Try to ping Mail server from your PI System and check pop3 port.

Can anybody help me on this issue

Are the calls to CUE getting dropped when you dial from an IP Phone at site 1 (callmanager) ?
How is the CME router setup in Callmanager ? Is it added as a regular H323 gateway or a H225 trunk ? Either ways, make sure the gateway registers with the correct IP that is used in Callmanager.
So if CME has a wan ip (a.a.a.a) and a lan ip (b.b.b.b), if you add b.b.b.b as the CME gateway's ip address in Callmanager, then you need to bind the H323 ip address as follows.
    interface fa0/0
    ip add b.b.b.b
    h323-gateway voip bind srcaddr b.b.b.b
Most likely the CME gateway is sending calls to Callmanager using ip address a.a.a.a which is the wan ip, through which it has the default route to Callmanager.
