Mail internet accounts getting shared across users in Yosemite

I recently upgraded my Macbook Pro retina  to Yosemite 10.10.1. I have two users created on the macbook, 1. for myself as administrator and 2. for my wife.
The problem that I am facing is that the internet accounts that I added in settings to configure the Mail app are now being seen in my wife's login. All the accounts that I added in my login now have full access/permissions in both our logins. I removed all the accounts and added them back one by one, it gives the same result.
I am not sure if the problem started with the recent upgrade. But pre-Yosemite, both of us had internet accounts added separately in our individual logins and had permissions only for our own individual accounts. Anyone else seen this?

Same problem here - this is really annoying since you cannot delete a previously added mail account anymore without resetting the complete mail app.

  • HT204284 Does a single iCloud account get shared across all Apple IDs that are joined in Family Sharing?

I have an iCloud account on my AppleID and I have family sharing activated that links me with my wife's AppleID over all our devices.
I Am signed into my AppleID on my devices (iMac and iPhone) and my wife is signed into her AppleID on her devices (iPad and iPhone). I thought that family sharing would have allowed us to share an iCloud account so that we can share our photo album that is stored there. My wife's devices are not giving her access to the iCloud account on my AppleID though.
    Any clues?

    Greetings pbick,
I am sorry I did not make myself better understood. The article itself states that.
    Mac with OS X Yosemite
Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud > Manage Family and click the Add button (+).
Select "Create an Apple ID for a child who doesn't have an account" and click Continue.
Enter your child's birthday and click Next. The birthday for a child's account can't be changed after the account is created. Be sure to enter the correct date.

  • Team account, share "folders" across users

We have a team membership here at work and we are happy to see that the syncing is available at last!!
What we want to be able to do is share folders from one mac, and have them on another mac ready to edit and save?
    Is this possible?
Can the admin group us together?
Or should I log in on three of the computers for the creative cloud only? Or does this infringe on the license agreement?

    Hi,
Our Engineering team is working on the same and will be available very soon but as of now I can't give any ETA.
You can fill this Wish Form. Please visit this link.

  • Why did my mac email account get deleted upon upgrading to Yosemite

I no longer have my mac email account, after upgrading to Yosemite.
How do I get it back on my MBP? Does this involve iCloud?

Go to the Mail/Accounts preference pane and add the account back again if it's not there.  Next check the System/iCloud preference pane to make sure you have Mail checked.

  • How are "Internet Accounts" shared across Macs?

I use several Macs (office, home, notebook). I noticed that when I add a new account in "Internet Accounts" on one of the Macs, it may appear on another Mac or may not even if I'm signed in iClouds with the same Apple ID. I wonder how I can control whether a newely added Internet Account is shared across all my Macs.
Sorry for a trivial question, but I could not find any info on this.

    Hey there zornie,
It sounds like the features you are describing are part of iCloud Keychain.
iCloud Keychain can also keep the accounts you use in Mail, Contacts, Calendar, and Messages up to date across all of your Macs. If you're signed in to Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, or any other accounts in Internet Accounts on OS X Mavericks, iCloud can push those accounts to your Macs as well.
From: iCloud: Frequently asked questions about iCloud Keychain
              http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5813
If you would like one of your devices to not automatically have accounts setup with iCloud Keychain, you would have to turn off the feature in your settings.

  • Can I turn off icloud keychain internet account syncing

I do not want all internet accounts sync'd across all computers.  I do not want my personal email on my work computer and my work email on my personal computer.  How do I set that up for which accounts on which computers?

    Hello rdegler,
The following article provides instructions for disabling iCloud Keychain.
Can I remove my iCloud Keychain from Apple's servers?
Yes. Follow these steps, starting on any one of your iOS devices or Macs that is using iCloud Keychain:
Devices using iOS 7.0.3 or later:
Go to Settings > iCloud > Account > Keychain and turn off “Approve with Security Code”.
Go to each of your other devices that is using iCloud Keychain and turn iCloud Keychain off.
Macs using OS X Mavericks v10.9 or later:
Choose Apple () menu > System Preferences. Click iCloud, then click Account details.
Deselect “Allow approving using security code”.
Go to each of your other devices that is using iCloud Keychain and turn iCloud Keychain off.
After you complete these steps, your keychain data will remain locally on your devices, but changes to your keychain information will not push to your other devices or the cloud unless you turn iCloud Keychain back on. If you want keychain data to push to all of your devices, but not to the cloud, turn on iCloud Keychain on each device as described earlier in this document, but skip the step to create an iCloud Security Code.

  • How to move old e-mail from iMac to shared MacMini - separate user accounts?

My wife and I share a new MacMini.  We each have separate user accounts.  She would like her old e-mail messages moved from her old iMac to the MacMini.  I believe they are in her old iMac's USER--LIBRARY--MAIL  directory.  Is this right?   Do I just copy these files and paste them in the same directory in the MacMini?
Also does anyone know how to move her old Keychain files on her old iMac to her user account on the macmini?
    Thanks for the help.   -Bruce

There are two issues when I do so. First of all I have "ghost" accounts who do not show up in my e-mail preferences but keep on showing up randomly. Secondly I cannot remove "other accounts" in Mail>Preferences I will get the following error message: The account "XXXX.XXXX.Com"  is shared using iCloud. You can remove this account from iCloud in Internet Accounts.
And in iCloud internet accounts the particular account will not be visible.

  • When setting up new godaddy pop mail account, I get this error: Internet Accounts preferences can't connect to the account

Trying to set-up new godaddy mail account. Walked through it with the godaddy rep, so the settings are correct. It is a pop account and I merely want it to function within Mail. (I have other accounts like it that work with no problem.) However, when I try to go online with the account, I get this error message: "Internet Accounts Preferences can't connect to the account..." It then prompts me to enter the password for the account and says it is "Unable to verify account or password."
Godaddy says it is an Apple Mail issue because the account works fine in their Workspace. I sent test messages and when I login at godaddy, the messages are there. However, for some reason, Mail won't connect to it. Any ideas?
Thank you. I'm running OS X, version 10.9.4.

Yes. The account is there. There's just a verification with password issue. I had to change my password at Godaddy to include caps, special character, etc., and reinstall the account. Then I had to tweet the settings a bit. But think I have it resolved. Thanks.

  • Sharing between User Accounts

I'm new to Macs and need some help.
I have 2 user accounts on my mac and want to share picture and music files between the accounts. Both can be read & write. All my music is in the iTunes music folder. Even when I share that folder I can't get to the files on the other account. Each artist has their own folder within the iTunes music folder and they all have the minus symbol beside them when viewing from the 2nd account. How do I share these files between user accounts?
Also, where do I save my pictures so that they can be seen on both accounts?
I started to share all the folders with in iTunes but that was taking forever so I quit the process and now my public folders are not showing as shared in the preferences. How do I get my sharing preferences back to the default settings?

I now have my mac set up just the way i want. thanks for the input you all gave! How I did it:
in the file sharing system prefs i deleted the "ghost" folders that were showing. I call them ghost folders because they were grayed out and not clickable. They were pointing to a folder that I had removed from my system because I deleted my user account so that i could start over from scratch to set things up right from the beginning. This still left these folders in the sharing menu so I just had to delete them one at a time until they were all gone making everything look clean again.
I learned that sharing files between user accounts on the same computer (and even the guest account) can only be done with files that are in the public folder. Adding my iTunes Music folder to the sharing list did not share my mp3 across users on the same computer. I just had to move the iTunes Music folder (not the iTunes folder) to the public folder so the other account could access it. Then I followed the directions in the link provided in this thread about sharing in iTunes. Now I don't have to have my wife's Maria Carry in my library! And she does not have to have my songs in her library!
For photos I placed the files in the public folder and just imported them into the iPhoto library for each account.
On a side note, having our own accounts allows us to set up the computer they way we want, but allows us to have access to the same files. I'll be adding a 500gb hard drive to it soon for time machine and can't wait to have that set up. My only question now is when can i add time capsule? Can I add it as a 2nd wireless network in addition to my linksys wrt54g2 that is connected to the cable modem (i need the linksys connected to the internet for xbox live and ps3's network), i know i would then connect the external HDD to it for more storage, therefore I guess I would move all mp3's and picture files onto it freeing space on the computer and just direct both user accounts to the files on the HDD connected to time capsule.

  • Yosemite - could not load internet accounts preference pane - same for icloud - mail not running

    After Up-Grade to Yosemite 10.10:
    Mail not working
Preferences Error Could not load Internet Accounts preference pane
Preferences Error Could not load iCloud Accounts preference pane
Had several issues when upgrading from Mountain Lion to Yosemite 10.10. Finally it seemed to work. When starting Mail, I tried to restore data from Time Machine (did a back-up under Mountain Lion immediately before up-grading to Yosemite). This ran for over 2 h when I suddenly noticed that "Mail quit unexpectedly. Since then I cannot work with Mail at all.
I read on the forum that many people have issues with Mail in Yossemite but apparently it's different from what I am experiencing, and it seems that none of the proposed solutions work for me.
I can start Mail, but I will only see the bar on top of the screen. Mail "Preferences" remains grey (= cannot click).
When choosing Mail "Accounts", System Preferences opens and then I get the "Preferences Error Could not load Internet Accounts preference pane."
I noticed then that I get a similar error when clicking "iCloud" in System Preferences: "Preferences Error Could not load iCloud Accounts preference pane."
I can open "Internet Accounts" and "iCloud" in System Preferences when I log in as a guest without any errors, but as soon as I log in with my user name, I get the same errors.
As suggested elsewhere in this forum, I removed the com.apple.mail-shared.plist in library and tried the same with com.apple.internetaccounts.plist.
I've spent hours on this and find this increasingly frustrating. I would try another new installation of Yosemite, if only I could be confident it would work this time...
Any advice how to solve this will be appreciated!

    Hey Sage,
    Glad you got it fixed!
I had exactly the same problems, but found this solution on another thread courtesy of Paul Pharoah which saved the trouble of another clean install and seems to have fixed everything  . It appears the problem lies somewhere in the mail account settings.
"I 've had the same problem today and tried lots of the suggested solutions around, all without success until....
    1.  I moved all the files in ~/Library/Mail/V2 to the desktop
    2. Deleted the folder
    3. Deleted my two email accounts (Gmail and exchange server) using System Preferences>Internet Accounts
    4. Re-started Mail.  It now re-started as if for the first time and asked me to re-input my mail accounts which I did.
    5. Mail up and running again."

  • Sharing between user accounts on same computer

    Hi Folks,
I've just tried this and it didn't work, However the default setting for this scenario is usualy that I've got it wrong.... So.
Can you share an iTunes account between two different user accounts on the same computer?
The reason for the question is that my Wife and I both share the same iMac. At present we just use the admin automatic login and share everything. Neither of us have Mac eMail so my eMail is pushed to "Mail" application, and I use this and "Address Book" to sync my iPod touch. The calendar is shared anyway. My wife access her eMail through Safari.
However my Wife is about to get an iPhone. (I'm not jelous...much) This means that we will need a way for her to sync the shared iTunes content but to have her own Mail, Notes and Address book.
The easy way seemed to be to set up a user log in account for her, to give independant Mail etc. and have it share the iTunes account. But this did not seem to work, so have I got it wrong? Or is there another way to achieve the same end?
    Many thanks,
    David.

    Put them in /Users/Shared.

  • Mail (in Leopard) and Shared Accounts?

Not sure whether anyone's encountered this before, and my search of this and other forums hasn't turned up anything directly on point, but here's hoping:
In our company, everyone has his/her own IMAP account: [email protected].
Many of us work on the same projects/transactions, but not everyone is copied on the same e-mails. Rather than forwarding e-mails, etc., we established a new IMAP account (to which all users subscribe), called [email protected]. The SharedMatters account started off with approximately 15 or so separate mailboxes, but now has upwards of 200. As we receive mail in our own personal accounts that pertains to a project, we just move it to the appropriate mailbox in the SharedMatters account. Initially, the amount of e-mails in the mailboxes/folders wasn't all that great (and mailboxes were regularly archived when a project ended/transaction closed). Now, however, the amount of e-mails, together with the size of the attachments, is staggering.
To enable each user to be able to search the contents of the various mailboxes, the advanced preference "Keep copies of messages for offline viewing - All messages, but omit attachments" has been selected.
The problems with the setup above are: (a) the drain on the network is more than taking its toll: everyone has a local copy that is continuously indexed across all computers; the more people join, the worse it gets; (b) storage of the SharedMatters account on the individual computers (particularly laptops) is getting to be a problem; and (c) because of the synching issues (drain on network), folks are beginning to be irritated and not use a system that, at its core, is extremely helpful.
The question is whether there's a better way to set this up (or whether there's a product that can do this). I know that in a Windows environment, you could use "Public Folders" in Outlook and, if you weren't logged in to the network, you couldn't see/read/search the e-mails. That result would be fine now, except I'm not sure whether that's possible in Leopard/with Mail. No one here is truly wedded to "local storage" of the e-mails (i.e., they're fine with having to log in and don't mind not having the ability to search/look at e-mails when they're not logged into the system); searching the text of the e-mails when you're logged in, however, is absolutely critical (and searching the attachments too would be great).
With a couple of exceptions, we're all using Leopard (10.5.6) and Mail (3.5.2).
Any help would be more than greatly appreciated.

how have you upgraded to leopard? can you search in spotlight for one email you cannot find in Mail, and do you find it? if so what is the path, where is it located on your hard drive?
    let me know

  • App duplication in iTunes library shared across two accounts on same iMac

I'm sharing media across two user accounts on a family iMac running Yosemite. The shared content is distributed across folders (Audiobooks, Music, Mobile Applications, etc.) inside Users/Shared/iTunes Music. Both accounts have read and write permissions, and family and home sharing are both turned on and linked to one primary Apple ID. In both accounts iTunes preferences point to the same shared folder. The problem: Updates to mobile applications in one account do not carry over to the other. After updating mobile apps for account A, when I switch to account B, I get the same list of apps awaiting updates. If I update for each account, I find duplicates for each updated app in the shared Mobile Applications folder.
I can avoid the duplication by control-clicking, in the Updates window of iTunes in account B, an app that has already been updated in account A. That will open a dialogue window saying the original file can't be found and asking if I'd like to locate it. When I do, the update disappears from the list in the Updates window. However this is a cumbersome process that I'd think iTunes would perform automatically if it were functioning properly. Has anyone encountered this issue and found a better solution?

For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • I can't get rid of Inactive Internet Accounts

Under System Preferences -> Internet Accounts I have two Inactive accounts that will not go away. I can highlight them and click the ( - ) button at the bottom, and they will go away for about 10 seconds, but then they reappear.
A screen shot is here: http://imgur.com/MaToSzr
    Some additional details:
Through the Internet Accounts panel, I can log in to one of them at a time, and that's actually what I would like in the long run, but there's always at least one inactive ghost sitting there.
If I change my Apple ID to use the inactive one, then I can log into that one, but now the other one becomes the ghost.
Even if I make one them an alternate Apple ID, I can't log into it through the Internet Accounts panel; it says I'm using the wrong password.
My thinking is that if I could find where these reside on the hard drive, I could wipe them and start over fresh.  Anyone have any ideas on what's causing this and how I can fix it?
    Thanks in advance.

After screwing around with it for a while, I finally set the outlook.com e-mail address as the primary e-mail address for the problem Apple ID and went ahead and signed in to that. For whatever reason, the yahoo.com e-mail address didn't re-appear as a ghost so I was as content as I could be considering my need for order. I let it run like that for a day, syncing everything, getting comfortable, and then I went to my Contacts app and found there was an iCloud group that I could not remove. When I went to menu -> Contacts / Preferences and selectedAccounts, there were probably a hundred Inactive accounts associated with the problem Apple ID.
So now I went back into System Preferences / Internet Accounts and tried to uncheck the Contacts sync for the problem Apple ID, but it just kept re-checking itself. So I re-removed the problem Apple ID again. It wasn't reappearing after 10 seconds like it usually did, but I figured that was just a matter of time. Now that I knew there were a 100 ghost address books, I set out to remove them all.
I navigated to /Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Sources where I found all of the ghost address books. Each one has it's one folder and in each unique folder is aConfiguration.plist file that has the associated e-mail account in the text somewhere. I went through each Configuration.plist file and for every one that had the problem Apple ID associated with it, I deleted it's parent folder. I closed and re-started theContacts app and all of the 100 ghost accounts were gone. Also, during the 30+ minutes it took me to delete all those, the ghost account never re-appeared in System Preferences / Internet Accounts.
My theory is that those 100 or so inactive Address books kept re-populating the Internet Accounts in System Preferences.
