Mail is continuously trying to import messages and refuses to close...

I have Mail set up with an IMAP account and for about a week now it has failed to import any of my messages. To make matters worse, it is in a constant state of processing and it refuses to close.
It appears that Mail is stubbornly trying, and constantly failing, to import a message from the server. How do I put an end to this vicious cycle without deleting the account from Mail? (I don't want to risk losing all of my organized folders or any other data for that matter).
Here's what Console is showing:
9/5/12 8:48:29.582 AM Mail: [+[Library _writeEmlxFile:forMessage:withBodyData:plistData:error:]] wrote wrong number of message bytes to file /Users/Lorrie/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes/Recovered Messages (Venturi).mbox/878CC50F-06A2-44B2-9595-CA7799CCC201/Data/4/1/Messages/14532.eml x! - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I am trying to import video and the audio doesn't upload with the video. Help.
I upgraded to iMovie 11 because the previous version wouldn't read the type of video I was importing (VOB).  The video imports but not the audio, what do I do?

What are you capturing from?  You may not hear the auido as it's captured but it will be there.  After it's captured can you see the audio waveforms? Do the audio meters move when you play the clip?  If so then go to "View" then "Audio Playback"  and set it to 'Built-in Output" if you're monitoring audio through the computer.

My Apple Mail is showing 100 million incoming messages and climbing at a rate of about 20k per second. Where are all these going and how do I get this to stop?
    thanks

Whoa, was your email exposed on a public forum/TV show?
First I would sign out of Mail right away.
Second I would go to your email's website and sign into there. Examples... icloud.com, hotmail.com, yahoo.com and whatever you use. Just to see if it's happening there. If it is happening there, then I strongly suggest changing your email address and whatever website  you used it on for login information.
If it's not happening there, then hopefully when you sign back into Mail it won't happen again. If it does happen again, let us know. I wouldn't be able to help but maybe someone else could.

    Bummer.
Did you update it on a machine other than the one he normally syncs to? Why did you delete the backup?

trying to import photos and copy as DNG. Nothing will upload though. Permissions are all accurate, saving to the right profile, etc. Nothing has changed on my computer but it will not let me import new pictures. Also, updated the software and some images say "preview cannot be seen" and some don't. And when I try to import and I hit "new photos" it's all the photos on my card. My brain is about to explode.

It said something similar where the thumbnails were supposed to be.
Just got the newest edition of LR, 4.4
4.4 is not the newest edition of LR
We don't want to know that it said "something similar", we want to know the exact wording. In fact, you ought to state the exact problem you are having, in detail, instead of saying you are having the same problem.

  • On a Mac, how do I close tabs or windows where dialogs have popped up trying to download malware and you cannot close them?

On a Mac, how do I close tabs or windows where dialogs have popped up trying to download malware and you cannot close them? I think it's Ctrl+F4 on a PC. I would like to close just these tabs or windows instead of having to quit the whole firefox program.

The equivalent of Control+F4 is Command+W, I have not tried it but you may still get the alert boxes when closing a tab using this method.
The AlertCheck add-on can be used to block the infinite loops such as this - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/alertcheck - This functionality is built into Firefox 4.
An alternative method in Firefox 3.6.* is to temporarily turn off JavaScript. Open the Firefox preferences window, go to the Content panel and de-select the setting "Enable JavaScript" then click OK. You will then be able to close the tab, and can then re-enable JavaScript.

  • Mail trying to load messages and seemingly in endless loop

Recently, after getting a new logic board, new memory and reinstalling 10.4.11, mail has been trying to download emails from my server and just gives a "fetching message..." in the activity viewer for an extended period of time (I let it go for 10 minutes to make sure). BTW, this happened after I had been receiving emails just fine for 3 or 4 days.
In the activity viewer window, the "status bars" that normally move are stagnate. It also mentions trying to route the first message from two of my accounts. I don't have any rules set up (other than the default news from apple one) and junk mail enabled. I am using DSL, so it's not a slow download and I searched through my ISP host and could get to the emails, but it would be much more convenient if I could use Mail!
If I stop the downloading of these emails, Mail just sits and in the activity viewer I get "STOPPING :...." for each one but nothing happens. I have reverted to just Force Quitting Mail to move on, but something is obviously not working right.
Any thoughts on what's happening or where to go from here?

    Mulder,
Did 1, 2, and 3 as after each one, still the same problem. After 3, I started Mail without doing anything else, including any updating of software. In console got this long list:

  • Mail crash when trying to import inbox from thunderbird

    hey,
i am trying to convert all my operations to native programs, i am currently using ThunderBird as my mail client but want to move over to mail. when i go to import my inbox i manage to find it and when it starts to import it crashes! i am assuming it is because i have over 4,500 e-mails that are split over to folders about even. i want to know how can i solve this, basically all i want is to open up mail and have everything there not in a separate folder that has all my imported e-mails, i want it as if i have been using mail from the start.
    all help would be appreciated

    Hi Farid Shahin.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described in the following article, in case there is something amiss in the filesystem:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
You’d get better results using Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to do the conversion.
Eudora Mailbox Cleaner requires rebuilding the imported mailboxes in Mail afterwards. Instead of rebuilding them one by one, you can re-create the entire index as follows:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
    4. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • Mail 4.6 Preparing to import messages

I  performed an update some weeks back which seemingly included an upgrade from mail 4.5 to 4.6.... Since then each time I try and launch mail i get the "welcome to mail" where i have to click to import messages to benefit from all these new features.....  Needless to say mail never opens as the preparing to import messages window just sits there. And the messages never import which is now really annoying!
I've rung apple who are becoming more like Microsoft in wanting to charge for everything....  It was fine before you released you're Bl00dy patches and updates!!!!!  yes but it will cost you £35.....
I only have one mail icon in the Apps folder and I've tried installing from the mac OSx disk but that takes mail back to version 4 which doesn't run  OS X10.6.8.
I've also tried restoring from time machine to version 4.5 but i get the same error that this version will not work on Mac OSX 10.6.8..
Any help would be appreciated if anyone else has experianced this..
Shame on you Apple for not properly testing patches before they are released..

I found this on the forum which did the trick..
    (1) remove the Mail caches from your user Library folder ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.mail
    (2) reapply the latest combo updater 10.6.4, you can download it from Apple downloads page
    (3) from your user Library folder drag the file Envelope Index to the desktop, that would be ~/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    (4) if that didn't fix the issue, drag the preference file of mail from ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist to the desktop and sees if that help

  • Error trying to import application and apex objects

    Hi friends:
I was using the Oracle Apex Demo Site to evaluated Oracle application Server.
I was amazed with its functionality, so I decide to download and installed on my server.
I want to continue evaluating the Apex functionallity and for that, I want to export tha application and objects I setuo on Oracle's Apex Site.
    I did with no problem.
After installed the Apex on my server, I inport the workspace.
But now I want to import the apex objects and the application 8mostly pages) my apex admin page give me an unrecognized errors for me.
    1. If I try to import the objects (tables, preocedures, etc. and data) it sends me the error: unreconized lines on the file, please remove the lines.
    2. If I try to import the application objects (pages, etc.) it sends me the folloeing error: the file you are trying to import is not a valid apllication express export file.
It is kind of courious because I just exported from Oracle Apex Site.
    Any hel please.

The other issue I forgot to mentioned is: when I install a new database to use it just with Apex, I leave the character set as WE8MSWIN1252.
I change my apex dads file to setup the AL32UTF8.
I don't know if these is the problem between the exported file from Oracles Apex Site (which has a UTF-8 character set setuup) and my apex installation with Apex character set as AL32UTF8 and Oracle 9i Release 2 with WE8MSWIN1252 character set settup.
    Any help please.

  • Mail 2.0 crashing when sending message and opening mailbox

I've had a weird problem for a few weeks now that I've finally replicated.
I have about 7 accounts that are all active. Mail stops responding when I compose a message and click "send" and then go to another mailbox. It starts to open the mailbox, and starts to send the message (sometimes completing the send), but hangs in the Beach Ball of Death state. I force quit, and reopen. The mailbox selected opens with no problem, and then the message sends (sometimes twice if it actually completed before the crash.)
I have tried reducing the mailbox sizes of every inbox and outbox involved to almost nothing, rebuilding indexes, removing attachments, etc. Nothing seems to work.

Ohhhhh, if you have something to fix it... I'd be most grateful! Mailtags rocks my world, and I'd be lost without it.
(for those who might be reading this post for reference -- here's what we're talking about: http://www.indev.ca/MailTags.html )
Will you post a reply to this thread when the update is out, so I can get it?
