Mail is taking me through new account set up.

I can find it my mail in spotlight but Mail application is treating me as a new account. How do I retrieve my old mail settings and mail files.

Sounds like the Mail.app preference file is corrupt and without a good copy of this file on a backup, you can't recover the Mail.app account settings and general Mail.app preferences which are stored in this file.
With the Mail.app quit and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. Delete the com.apple.mail.plist file and empty the Trash.
This will require re-entering all account information when re-launching Mail which you must do anyway without a backup.
Launch Mail and decline any prompt to import mailboxes.
After re-entering all email account information the same as before, the Mail.app should rediscover the existing account named folder(s) and mailboxes at Home > Library > Mail.

I have set up in my Mac Book an Exchange IMAP account which works without any issues, I am wanting to add another account but mail just beach balls.
The account that I am wanting to add is running on another Mac at my work.
OS 10.6.4
Mail 4.3 (1081)
Mac Book Pro 15"
1) Click on "add mail account button"
2) Window appears add full name (exactly as on other mac)
3) Enter e-mail address (exactly as on other mac)
4) Enter password (exactly as on other mac)
5) click continue
this is the point where mail beach balls searching for mail servers………….
their is no response, If cancel the process mail becomes unresponsive and
a force quit is required.
i have turned of my firewall, repaired permissions, run YASU, no change.
any ideas why this could be happening?, any suggestions on how to remedy.

Ok i have deleted the account i have tried using the other mail account and instead of using hotmail.com i put outlook.com i have also tried using the outlook .com tab and using my hotmail still nothing worked

Account hacked, now can't get a new account set up

a week ago, my Skype account was hacked and used for international calls. I contacted Skype, chatted with a cust services rep and was advised to completely close down that account and create a new one. He suggested I have the account removed from Skype, which I did, too.
I've been trying since then to create a new account. I have successfully completed the screens to set up an account and each time the account has a name like "live:xxxx" where xxxx is my name. When I log back in, this account does not work. I've done this 3 times with 3 different emails, and cannot figure out what the actual login is.
I thought it might be the password, so I clicked on 'forgot password' and I'm sent a token. But when I try to use the token, I'm told it's not a valid token.
I've tried to contact customer support and chat again, but I need a valid account to log into before I can reach the chat again.
I've tried to find answers in the FAQ, but can't seem to find anyone with this same problem.
I put a note on twitter for @skype, but no one answered it.
I use a Mac, although I don't think it's a Mac problem yet. I can't log into the skype.com page to choose and pay for an account.
You can sense my frustration...please advise where to go to get this fixed.

Mail wants to create a new account

A friend's Mail app crashed when trying to add a sig to a message. When she restarted it, the process to create a new account began and the software doesn't see any of her account data. Shedoesn't have a backup of the PDFs file. I' sure the data is still there but how can sheet the app to recognize the existing account?

Hi Mitch, is this a POP or IMAP account?
Could be many things, we should start with this for safety...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
If that doesn't do it...
On Mail...
First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
For Address Book...
Files...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist

Mail can't finish creating new account

I've scoured the forums for this one but so far not seen the answer...
Upon trying to setup a new additional account in Mail 3.3 the process stops when Mail tries to verify the outgoing mail server.
I've tried all the normal troubleshooting: deleting prefs, permissions, fix directory (Disk Warrior) you name it. I've verified that the new account settings are correct because I can get either Thunderbird, Entourage or Eudora to authenticate and work. But no matter what I try Mail will not setup a second account!
This problem started with 10.4 and I figured with a clean install of 10.5 it would go away. Guess not. Although the OS is a clean install I did transfer settings and mailboxes from the old OS (not the app itself).
Any ideas?

I've had this happen to me several times and given enough time (up to 15 minutes sometimes) the setup process would always complete even if there was a problem reaching the smtp server. try waiting it out. it might be all you have to do.

IOS 8 Bug: In Mail the sender account defaults back to last account from which an e-mail was sent overriding the default account setting

I cannot get over it ... how can a company that designs such wonderful hardware write such poor software? Apple should really feel ashamed. Anyone Windows-bashing should realise that computing is about more than just fancy screen backgrounds. I am so sick of this.
Anyway - here is my latest bug report (which as an IT professional I should charge Apple my time for):
When you access multiple mail accounts from your iPhone (iOS 8.2 12D508) you need to specify a default mail account. This is (or at least used to be in working implementations of this feature in previous iOS versions) the mail account that mails will be sent from unless the user selects another account.
The problem in the current iOS version is: After sending a mail from a non-default account, the next mail will also be sent from the same non-default account rather than from the actual default account. The incorrect sender account gets selected after picking a mail recipient.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Send an e-mail from a manually selected non-default mail account on your iPhone.
2. Start composing another e-mail. Initially, the correct default account is shown as sender account.
3. Now select a recipient address.
==> This is when the sender mail account reverts to the last e-mail account that a mail was sent from (in our case the non-default account).
Temporary Work-Around:
When the sender account reverts to the non-default account, manually select the default account again.
Apple, please go and do your homework! Fix this annoying bug. Thank you.

Since the link to the Apple id: Tips for... actually says it goes to a site named "bingo", I think it's quite clear that this is a phishing email, designed to get you to click on and go to their site, not an Apple one. I hope you have not clicked on the link.

Very small hard drive in today's standards. I have an old TiBook G4 with a 30 GB hard drive that I still use on occasion and I don't know how I survived with it for so long. It required that I use an external firewire drive to save selected data.
A 20 GB hard drive is actually slightly less than that (actual capacity) and although just under 4 GB of free space shouldn't be a problem or issue, you need to keep an eye on this. OS X makes generous use of paging or virtual memory regardless the amount of RAM installed which uses available free hard space.

Although I've never experienced the same or any problem that required targeting the Mail.app preference file, this file can become corrupt over time as with any other application preference file but the lower amount of free hard drive space available, the more likely problems with preference files will occur.
Not sure why the preferential treatment utility reported no problems though.
When was the last time your ran Disk First Aid repair via Disk Utility when booted from your Tiger install disc?

POP configuration, add new account isn't working

I have Apple Mail version 1.3.11 (v622/624) and the Gmail help instructions
for configuring POP don't match what happens in my program. The
instructions from Gmail say to click 'Mail' and select 'preferences'
and a window should appear that allows me to enter all of the
necessary information. Instead what happens is I get a window that
talks about 'Rules'. I'm not sure what the 'rules' are, but am quite certain they
have nothing to do with POP configuration.
I have noticed that if I click on the Icon on the main menu bar in
Apple Mail I can select "Create New Account" and it will lead me
through an account set-up wizard. The problem is that it won't let me
enter the server port information, the Use Secure Sockets Layer
information, or check the 'use SSL' box, which changes the port to
995.
All of this means nothing to me except following the step-by-step
rules by which I may hopefully download my emails from my new Gmail
account. Unable to follow the rules because my Apple Mail program
doesn't match the Gmail instructions and I can't find any location where I can enter the missing information. So, I can't download my emails.
Argh. I was hoping to switch to Gmail but can't until I get this
figured out.
Anyone have any ideas?

Mail Preferences > Accounts is not a set-up wizard that takes you through the process. That is a windows thingy.
Mail Preferences Accounts is a series of dialogues that allow you to choose which elements you want to interact with and set custom settings. It doesn't walk you through. It is not a set-up wizard.
GMail like Yahoo Mail and Hotmail are all web-based mail services accessed from your Safari or Firefox browser. It is not essential to have Mail configured to access Gmail. You can access it now from Safari.
It is possible to access these services by manually configuring Mail as you are trying to do but it is the exception and not the rule that you are trying to achieve.
Examine all of the dialogue choices in Mail Preferences to see what is available and learn what can be altered and how. Learn how a normal Mail account would be set if you used one with your ISP for example. The ISP's website will will explain those settings. From there see what extra mile you have to go to do the same for a web based mail service to route in through your Mail app.
In the discussions searchbox, type in Gmail to find similar posts about accessing Gmail through Apple's Mail.

The requirement is one physical plant as two different logical plants in the system. The main issue is how to administrate or how to find the set up which allows one Physical warehouse in Hamburg which we have supplying two Logical warehouses in the system without having thru really physically separate the warehouses into two different ones. Materials physically will be only for one warehouse.
Most of the things are pointing in the direction that order Backlogs will not be converted into new organization. We have backlogs for the material requirements for purchase orders, sales orders whatever we have in the current setup; then there will have all are new orders from the certain dates taking in the new organization set up. These backlogs are very long at least three to four years.
We would like to find some way to have the all the material requirements ending up in one basket instead of two baskets. That still be able to deliver at least in system point of view from two different baskets.
We need to do analysis on one physical stock serving plant into two different system plants that could be done either by material master data or as i understood that could be from PS side.
can any one please tell me how we can maintian this setup in the system.
Please provide your valuable inputs.

Sorry, the creation of such an end-to-end solution is outside the scope of an online forum. Most consulting companies would send a multi-disciplinary team to perform this task, and would take several weeks to research your requirements, and come up with a prototype.

Or if you don't want to give credit card details : Create an iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store account without a credit card or other payment method
But you won't be able to transfer purchases from your old account to it, all content that you download from the store will remain tied to the account that downloaded it.

Aperture won't let me log in when ordering prints. It only allows me to Create a New Account (which I already have one).

When I log in during the "order prints" sequence, it then pops up "Create a New Account" set of fields. I tried filling those out with my existing account info, then it gets into a continuous loop with the server, probably confused because I already have that account. I shut down Aperture and tried to order via iPhoto - no problem.

The difference between iPhoto and Aperture is, that iPhoto has its own setting for the country of the Print Products Store in the Perferences > Advanced Panel, but Aperture does not have this option. Aperture will connect to the Print Products Store according to the Language&Regions se settings in your System Preferences.
Edit your Billing and Delivery address on the page of the Apple Store:
Go to Apple's main page and click "Store", then "View account".
On the "Accounts" page edit your default addresses. Do not only view them, enter the information again, to make sure, that there are no invisible characters causing problems. Then click the shopping cart to the rift and enable Express Checkout.
