Mail & Missing Plug-in /Java/

I'm using MAIL Version 5.0 (1244.2/1244.3) and I have a situation. I would send digital poscards from iPhoto to my email and when I recieve it Mail wouldn't let me see it. It says "Missing Plug-in" but I have installed a proper plug-in - Java for Lion. This is brand new computer with latest software installed and I have already issue? How come? Is there any solution for that?
Thanks very much for your help

I just tried another scenario.
On my Imac, I have two user accounts, mine and one for my daughter.
1. If my daughter send me an email from her account and  her Iphoto using iphoto template, I receive her email on my accouint perfectly. I have not the message "plug-in missing".
2. On the other hand, if I send  an email from my account and my Iphoto using iphoto template to my daughter, she receives my email on her account with the message "plug-in missing".
It seems the probleme comes from either my iphoto or my domain an dnot from my mail application. But no idea to fix it.

mail > Missing Plug-in after sending; quit and restart Mail fixes it.
Its very obnoxious after all these years to have Apple Mail continue to complain about Missing Plug-in
This happens for PDFs, .zips, .jpgs and other types.
Any ideas why Apple cannot seem to fix this?

    Back up all data.
Boot into Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.

  • MAIL - Missing Plug in?   NOT!

Hi,  Sometimes I'll send an email in MAIL (I have the latest of Snow Leopard and MAIL - and if I attach a few jpg images, or a signature - sometimes after I send it, if I look in the SENT folder I'll see that the email has NO pictures or signature in it.  In their place I'll see "Missing Plug in" - and not what I sent
But - if I quit MAIL, then simply open it again, all is fine!
This has happened several times.  So I guess I don't have a problem . . . but what's causing this?
    Thanks,
    Larry

Oh, I just read the "fix" of Java settings - restore default.  I did that now - but this problem is very intermittent!  Sometimes I won't see it for weeks - then it's there - then it's not?
Wonder what this inconsistency is?   I don't know if the restore defaults in Java settings works, because it might work on it's own anyway?
    Thanks,

  • Mail missing plug-ins

OK, strange one here.  I have several clients (Lion and Mountain Lion) that get the Missing Plug-ins in certain emails using Mail.app.  They are all using Exchange 2010 server, some setup w/ IMAP, others as Exchange server.  I know about the java trick and other things that 'correct' the Missing plugin thing... but this is something entirely different.  I spent a few hours on the phone w/ Rackspace technical support trying to figure out the issue.  As far as i know, all the missing attachments are images (jpg and png is what i've seen so far).  Sometimes these attachments show up on an iOS device, sometime not - just like OSX version.  If you look at the message details in OWA you can see the blocked attachments are replaced w/ https://email. ourcompany.com/owa/UrlBlockedError.aspx path, instead of the usual as shown by the other attachments.  It seems as though Microsoft (in their infinite wisdom) is blocking these attachments for some reason.    BUT... with Outlook 2010 on a Windows PC these attachments come through just fine.  Even Outlook 2011 for Mac is a little better in that it may show one or two other attachments, but Mail.app or Outlook.app neither show ALL of the attachments -- but a plain, vanilla, Outlook for Windows shows them all no problem.
Does anybody have anything to add to this?  The email ISP couldn't come up w/ any block list that can be changed, any other ideas, etc... I'm thinking I am going to have to call Microsoft which I really don't want to do.  It takes an hour to bring somebody up to speed as to where i am...
Let me know, TIA. -- PetieG

  • Apple Mail: missing plug-in

I keep getting "missing plug-in" messages from Apple Mail in emails that contain actually JPEGs or other common attachments. I don't know when this exactly started (could be installation of 10.8.3 update or a security update). This "feature" occurs only on my Mac Pro. On my Macbook Pro all works fine with the same configuration.
Faulty system: Mac Pro Early 2008, Mac OS Mountain Lion 10.8.3, latest Apple Mail.
Working system: MacBook Pro 15" Retina Mid 2012, Mac OS Mountain Lion 10.8.3, latest Apple Mail.
I scanned this forum and the usual Google hits for help. I tried the following already:
    repaired permissions, checked disk
all system & software updates done
Java preferences "restored to default", Java preferences deleted
    repaired mailboxes
    applied combo 10.8.3 updater
    applied iTunes 10.2 combo installer
    checked all configurations, nothing unusual.
sent an email with photo attachment via iPhoto
danced in circles @ midnight & full moon
Nothing worked so far. Any useful idea. This keeps annoying me!
    Kind Regards
    Frank

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
    Quit Mail.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Relaunch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you'll have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.

  • Can't see PDF files in Mail - Missing plug in

    Hello!
Sometimes I can't see the PDF in Mail. In the message appears only blank page and a "Missing Plug in" .
When I try to download a PDF file the Firefox sent to me a plug in in  Quick time page but I downloaded all and doesn't fix the problem.
    Please, advise me.
    Thanks

    Hi Ryan,
This is not an Acrobat related issue, it is related to your local user profile, I will recommend you to contact your network administrator so that he can help you to create a shared user profile on the network.

  • Mail missing plug-in after update to 10.6.6

Since I updated to OSX 10.6.6 Mail shows 'missing plug-in' when I create an outgoing message with an attachment. I have also been prompted for passwords when sending email. Is there a fix?

For me, I am unable to log into my account if my Mac is authenticating against my Active Directory domain controller. If I am quick, and I can enter my password as soon as the prompt comes up, before the Mac has talked to the DC, it will let me log in. If not, I need to log in as the local admin account, disable my wifi connection, log out and log into my account and re-enable the wifi.
Doing this will get me logged in, but if I do anything that requires further authentication (installing apps, su in terminal etc), the authentication will fail unless I disable the wifi first. Quite a PITA, to say the least!
It seems that once I am logged in, I am able to connect to shares on the server, but running apps that access files on the shares, they seem to lock up frequently.
Is there a way to report this bug directly to Apple? Or do we just have to hope that they see this thread and fix it?
    Pete

  • Mail " Missing Plug In " 10.7.4

I tried sending a jpg photo today and in it's place a " greyed out box " with missing plug-in appears.
I tried sending different photos to no avail.
    I haven't changed anything .
    Help !
    Janet

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Look in the Console window under User Diagnostic Reports for crash logs related to "WebProcess" or "PluginProcess." The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report for each of those processes, if any, and post the contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.)

  • Mail: missing plug-in

I cannot seem to be able to view PDF files attached to emails whether at the compose stage and attaching PDFs or at the receive stage with PDF file attached to incoming email.
Quick Look works well on PDFs all the same and Save button does show the PDF(s) filename(s).
The only changes I seem to have made are:
    OS X update from 10.6.6 to 10.7.7
Flash update (flash did not work in Safari)
    iTunes (to 10.2.1 (1))
Of course there may have been some silly change that I made off the cuff without realising but those don't really spring to mind at all. I don't think any of those might have happened in this case.
Maybe all I need to do is to ask Preview to work with Mail?
PDF files are associated with Preview anyway.

After upgrade to OS X10.6.7 Mail doesn't display pix.  Missing plug-in instead. Already reset Java to default.
Did not find any other suggestion online.
    What's happening?

    Hi
Is it not displaying any type of picture attachment (JPG, GIF, TIFF, PNG)? Is it any message that you view, from any sender?
How did you reset Java? You may want to clear the caches as well. Empty ~/Library/Caches & /Library/Caches/.

  • "Missing Plug-in" instead of image in incoming mail

Recently, some mail has arrived with gray text reading "Missing Plug-in" where the image should be. The attachment size shows next to the paper clip, and I can use the Save button to save the image, and view it with Preview.
But when I try to cut and paste the saved image into an outgoing message, the same gray text appears instead.
Not all incoming mail behaves this way. I have not yet been able to determine if this is unique to a single sender.

    Greetings All,
I've recently noticed the "Missing Plug-in" phenomenon too in Apple Mail (Version 3.6 (936)). I've tried resetting Java preferences by clicking the "Restore Defaults" button, but there's no change. Since I'm running Leopard 10.5.8 I didn't download the Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 2 at http://support.apple.com/downloads/. Is it okay to load this update if I'm running OS X 10.5.8? If so, I'll give it a try, but I don't want to attempt a fix if it's going to cause more problems.
I also went into Safari (Version 5.0.4 (5533.20.27)), into Preferences/Advanced and checked the Show Develop Menu in Menu Bar. I then went into Develop but found no Enable Extensions option. So that was a dead end.
I've checked my system for updates and everything seems to be up to date. However, I suspect that this just may be part of the problem. Sometimes things get fluky when updates occur. Strange how that is.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Mail: photos won't display, only "missing plug-in" message

My wife's old G4 PowerMac running OS X10.5.8 recently stopped displaying photos in Mail.  Instead, all that displays is message "Missing Plug-in" and the photo number or caption.  This happens with all incoming e-mails, as well as outgoing e-mails generated from iPhoto, or just standard e-mails composed in Mail with an attached  photo.  The photo is there when she clicks on "Quick Look" but not in the field of the message.  HTML images in ads display fine...only individual photo attachments are missing.  Please help.  Thanks.

    Hi Neville.
I have the same problem with the "missing plug-in" message...but everytime I close out and try a second time the photos appear.
Is the path "applications" "utilities" "java"...if so I don't see "Java" in utilities, even though I was prompted to do a recent "java update" and did so?
Wondering where my "Java Preferences" file would be since I don't any file for "Java" in "utilities".
Any help/advice would be much appreciated!

  • Mail 6.6 missing plug-in for PDF view, can't save to RTFD file

    Hi,
I see there are some similar queries about this, but no definitive answer. I can't seem to save to RTFD file format, and my sent mail indicates a missing plug-in for where the PDF attachment should be.
I did mess around with the Mail Library a bit to transfer across my mail database from an older machine. Something which did not go smoothly at all.
Is there a way I can fix this?

I just received an iPhoto generated message but instead of showing the pictures Mail 5.1 displays Missing Plug-in.  I have a 27" Imac, early 2010, just installed OS X Lion and the JAVA for OS X Lion.
What other plug in am I supposed to install for Mail to open the iPhoto pictures?

  • Mail has missing plug-in

In Safari 5.1 I removed the PDF from Quicktime Plug-In.  Now I am getting a message Mail that I am missing a plug-in when I attach a PDF file to an outgoing email.  Yet the PDF file does go out with the sent email.
Any clues?  Have I somehow removed a plug-in for mail?  Where do the Mail plug-ins live?
