  • Mail not downloading from one account after iPhone sync

Since I allowed my iPhone to sync my mail accounts, I can only receive mail from one of my accounts on my iPhone, no longer on my laptop.
Mail on my laptop seems to be checking for mail, and in the activity window it seems like its going to start downloading, then nothing happens. Sometimes I get a 'Maildrop Busy error message on my laptop. At least I'm getting the mail, but I'd prefer it on my laptop too!
    Any ideas?

Hi demonknitter, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions.
In your home folder, try moving this +folder & file+ to the Desktop then reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail
    Move to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index

  • Check for new mail not working on one account

For a number of months now I have been having trouble getting new mail. I have my Apple Mail 2.1 preferences set to check for new mail every minute and play a New Mail Sound when something arrives. This seems to be working for my earthlink POP account but not my dot.mac e-mail account. The only way to get new dot.mac e-mail on my G5 tower is to alternately click on the left most icons for the different incomming tray icons in my in box, then the InBox icon itself. I dont have to do that for my second e-mail account--an earthlink POP account, or on either account on my laptop. Also, When I do click on the specific in box for my dot mac account, it takes forever to load that new mail, and the activity monitor shows that it is caching every attachment that is already in my in box even though it is already old mail.
Also, Mail seems to be following Smart Mailboxes arbitrarily. For instance, I have a smart mailbox set up to display any incoming mail from someone in my Family Group from address book, however it seems to ignore about half of these, but display the other half accurately.
Anyone know whats going on or how to fix it so I dont have to mannually keep checking for new mail? Again, I have my preferences set to check for new mail every minute and to play a new mail sound, and new mail does work fine from my Earthlink POP account.
    Thanks for your help.

If this happens to your .Mac account only, try rebuilding the mailbox, i.e. select it and do Mailbox > Rebuild.

  • Apple Mail not working with IMAP account

I have been using Entourage for my email with several IMAP email accounts. SOme of the accounts I was getting occasional errors so I thought I would try Apple Mail.
I am able to successfully set up the accounts in Mail (i.e. it successfully logs into server) however it does not get any of the mail nor does it get any of the mail folders that are on the IMAP server (viewing email using Web Mail or even going back to Entourage shows the emails on the account). Are there any special (hidden) tricks that I need to do to get Mail to work with a standard IMAP mail server?

I have a very similar problem. Apparently IMAP access is better than POP3. Well IMAP slows my Mac to a complete stop whereas POP3 is seamless. I deleted my POP3 mailboxes after successfully accessing my GMail accounts via IMAP, then it slowed down.
I've deleted the IMAP accounts a few times, but each time a new account is created it forces me to accept IMAP with no option for POP3. The help file also contains no information on POP3.
I get about 50 emails everyday and my usual point of email access has just become redundant, I must now rely on email via my browser and .
I made this change because the iPhone does not sync downloaded emails with Apple Mail. In Mail on my Mac, the one GMail inbox I have setup says there are 11 unread which it eventually shows yet none appear unread. I'll have to rely on web-based email until this is resolved.
Can anyone help with these IMAP access problems?

  • Mail not sending using .mac accounts

For years, I've had multiple .mac accounts. I've only had one listed as my official .mac account while the others I sent up in Mail as IMAP accounts. This has worked wonderfully this entire time.
BUT NOW, none of my .mac accounts are sending! I've tried changing the port to 587. I've tried deleting the accounts and recreating them. I've tried all that I can think of. Everytime I try to send I get a popup window asking for my password. I type in my password and it is rejected. I know that it is the correct password because I can login to apple's .mac site and send just fine with the same password. I also know that it is not my ISP. I've connected to the Internet from multiple locations (home, work, friends houses, etc.) and still have the same problem (when I could send from all of these places a week ago). What gives? Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

Are you also accessing an email account and SMTP server provided by your ISP with the Mail.app?
If so, are you able to send messages with this account?
If yes, select/use your ISP's SMTP server to send messages with your .Mac accounts which is invisible to all recipients.
Then call your ISP to ask if any recent changes were made blocking the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network even if authenticated such as the .Mac SMTP server.

  • Mail not connecting on some accounts

I am having a problem with Mail since the security update yesterday.
Keeping getting this against some of my email accounts.
'The server returned the error: Connections to the server “mail.plus.net” on the default ports timed out.'
Have tracked it down to the 'Use SSL' box being ticked and 'Allow insecure authentication' box not being ticked.
I have untucked and ticked these boxes and emails will coming in for a while and then stop working again.
When I go back into account settings the ticks have been swopped over again. This keep happening
but not with all of the accounts at the same time.
    Any ideas.

Hello and thanks for the post - I had the same problem this morning (same update/ISP) and now its solved by unchecking SSL and allowing insecure authentication - I set up thunderbird in the interim which gave me the warning that plusnet apparently does not support password encryption, which I guess is what caused the problem.

  • Mail not using the correct account to reply to email

I use Gmail to fetch email from my other email accounts. Prior to Mountain Lion, whenever I replied to an email, Mail would use the correct email account to reply to. That is to say, Gmail was fetching email from [email protected], for example. When I click reply, the default account would be mail.com. But since upgrading to Mountain Lion, the default account will be Gmail.com.
Has anyone experienced this? How were you able to solve this, if at all?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

The new rule seems to be if you move an email message received on account A to a folder belonging to account B, that means the message now "belongs to" account B, and replies will come from account B. The new rule is murkier if you move a message from account A to an "On My Mac" folder and then reply to it.
I'm not saying that I like it that way, or that Apple has documented the change, just that this "new rule" seems to explain many of the "wrong reply" and "copying myself" complaints we see here on the forums. If we (users) can figure out the second half of the "new rule" ("On My Mac" folders), we might be able to explain the rest, we might be able to predict how replies will work, and we might be able to write a cogent complaint about the "new rule."

  • Non-Spam mail not arriving to Mac account

    Hi
I need to send a mailing to a large number of signed up users via PHP. I am checking the mailing with gmail, hotmail, yahoo, and other accounts and there is no problem - but the mail is not being delivered to my mac.com address.
I ran the text of the mail through Spam Assassin just in case, and the only discrepancy I had was between server sent time and client receipt time.
Does anybody know of any rules in the mac.com or Mail application which would be preventing this mail being delivered? Is there, perhaps, a test system I can check the mail against so that I can understand why it would fail Mac rules?

  • Mac Mail not sending from correct account.

I constantly use Mail to send and receive emails on my MacBook.
On it I have three email 'accounts' - my me.com address (for formal emails to work, banks etc.), my "junk" address (for spam, gaming etc.) and my "home" address (for personal emails and everything else).
When typing an email, if I choose to send it from a different account than the one I originally selected, I can just change it in the 'From' pop-down menu (under the 'To', 'Cc', 'Bcc' and 'Subject' fields).
Recently though, for some reason when I want to send an email from my "home" address, it sends it from my "junk"one instead, even if I am sending it 'From' my "home" address.
It still has my "home" address' signature, and not every time it does send from my "junk" one instead - rather it seems to send from both as it feels up to.
This bothers me quite a bit, especially when I send an important email using my "home" address but it sends from my "junk" - both confusing and annoying me and the recipients.
This only just started happening to me this past week. Does anyone else have the same issue, and any help would be greatly appreciated

Some mail servers such as gmail will change the address when sending from one account through another account's server.
Go into Mail's preferences under Accounts. Highlight each account and make sure the correct outgoing server is listed for that account with the correct user name and password. Each account should have their own. Check the box to use only that server with that account. Do this for all accounts.
If you don't check the box and the server fails, it will move on to the next one in the list. Then you will get the address from that server even though you're sending from a different account.
If the server does fail, you will get a selection box to try again or select another server.

  • Mail not checking from main Account window

It used to be up until recently that if I went to my main mail account window to manually check my email that all 4 of my POP mail accounts would check and the number of unread messages would display. Now I am having to open each individual mail account separately to check for new messages. I have tried deleting all of my accounts and re-entering them, resetting the phone, wi-fi on and off but it's still the same.
Was this something new to 3.0?

Update: I installed all updates (there weren't many; I tend to install updates quickly), rebooted, restarted Mail -- same problem. But it somehow seems to have fixed itself overnight. The weird numbers in the Mail Activity window are no longer happening, and mail is downloading from all my accounts.

OUtlook was already set as the mail client for FF, and is my operating system (XP)'s default mail programme. therefore problem not solved at all. what I get whenever I follow a link in a webpage to send an e-mail is a little pop up window asking me to sign in to gmail or open an account. any other suggestions?

  • Mail app not connecting to gmail account

    Hi
So I have 2 gmail accounts where our company domain uses gmail for its email service. Mail was working fine on both the accounts till last week.
I had configured both the gmail accounts very easily by just selecting Google on the Mail App on my Macbook Air 7 months back. I just added my email id and my password and the Mail App automatically configured both my accounts.
Last week one of the gmail accounts stopped updating on the Mail app on the Macbook. I was recieving mails on my iPad and iPhone so I knew there was something wrong. The second gmail account was working just fine. I tried various things but that account refused to work. So I deleted that account and tried adding that account back. I could not add that gmail account this time round and kept giving me an invalid username password error or some account not valid error. I go to the online version of Gmail and login with exactly the same information.
Then to probe more I delete the working gmail account and try to add it again. That account also does not seem to be adding now. Same error as the first account. So now I cannot access both my gmail accounts on the mail client.
I just realized that I updated to OSX Mavericks 10.9.2 on 28th Feb and am pretty sure that all this has happened immediately after that.
Anybody else with similar issues? Any ideas on what I should be doing?
    Cheers

  • How do I set the "reply to" field in the iPad 2 Mail app?  I use an email forwarding service (not an actual email account) that I would like people to reply to.

How do I set the "reply to" field in the iPad 2 Mail app?  I use an email forwarding service (not an actual email account) that I would like people to reply to, so setting up an account with the correct reply-to address doesn't work because there's no associated outgoing mail server.  I had this working under iOS4 but it seems to have disappeared when I upgraded to iOS5.

Welcome to the forum, NicoleYM. I don't think the Touch Mail has as many options as the Mac Mail app. However, you could set a standard signature. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Signature. There you can type a reply address and hope people see it.
Alternatively, you can go to your GMail account in your web browser and click on Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP. There you will have an option to forward all emails (or only some, if you set up a filter) to your other address.
    Good luck!

  • Problem with marking mail as Not Junk in IMAP account

    Hi,
I have an IMAP email account on Go Daddy that I forward all my other mail accounts for processing. I use Apple Mail to process this IMAP account and use Mail.app's Junk filter to move Junk mail to the Junk mailbox. This Junk mailbox is mapped in Mail.app to my Go Daddy Bulk Mail IMAP folder, and the Trash and Inbox are also mapped to their respective folders of this IMAP account's Mail.app is set to "Enable junk mail filtering" and "Move it to the junk mailbox".
When junk mail comes in, Mail.app correctly identifies the mail as junk and moves it to the Junk folder. However, if I find a message that Mail.app misidentified as junk and I attempt to mark it as Not Junk, the message gets a Not Junk status (not brown anymore), but the message stays in the Junk folder; Mail.app does not move it back into the Inbox.
I would assume that since both the Inbox and Junk mail (Bulk Mail) folders are IMAP and on the same account, that upon marking the message as Not Junk, this mail should be moved back into the Inbox, just like under POP.
Am I mistaken about the operation of Junk mail under IMAP? Should marking a message as Not Junk move it automatically to the Inbox? Do I have my folders and options set right? Should I possibly use a 3rd party Spam filter such as SpamSieve (where I can control its actions via Applescript)?
    Thanks for any info.
    Mike

Ah Ernie, I think you found out my "problem".
Before I upgraded to SN, I used SpamSieve to manage my POP SPAM. When I changed to SN, I did away with SpamSieve and POP, and used IMAP and Mail.app's Junk filtering. SpamSieve, since its "Mark As Junk" and "Mark As Not Junk" functionality uses Applescript, it must've moved the Not Junk message back to the inbox.
Thanks for the pointer; I may change back to SpamSieve to get back that functionality.

  • HT5527 I did not move my Mobileme account to iCloud. How can I get off the iCloud mailing list?

I did not move my Mobileme account to iCloud. How can I get off the iCloud mailing list?

If you migrated your MobileMe account before 1 August you should have signed into System Preferences>iCloud with it, and you would be able to see your calendars, bookmarks and emails on the iCloud website. Is this the case? Did you sign into iCloud with your @me.com address?
If you did not migrate your MobileMe account you can no longer do so.
If you did migrate, did you do so from a full MobileMe account or from a Family Pack sub-account? the latter did not get the complimentary storage (because their iDisks were only 5GB anyway).
If you had a full MobileMe account, check on your Mac - System Preferences>iCloud - and see whether that shows the upgrade. If it doesn't, you probably need to contact Support: if you currently happen to have AppleCare, either because you recently bought Apple hardware or have paid to extend the inititial period, you can contact them here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/
You will need the serial number of the covered hardware.
If you are not covered by AppleCare, then - in common with other free email services - there is no free support (MobileMe Support is no longer available) and you may be asked to pay a fee: in this case you should ask them to deal with it without cost (and hope they agree).
Note that you haven't paid anything for your MobileMe storage since your first renewal date after 6 June 2011, and iCloud costs nothing unless you specifically choose to upgrade the storage. Note also the iCloud storage is not general file storage in the manner of the iDisk but is restricted to iOS device Backup, Mail, Photo Journal and Documents.
