Mail now being grouped under a day/week heading

Why can't BT give us notice when they are going to change something within our email. Today, when I logged in, I found that my emails are grouped under day and then week then month headings. This is not a facility that I want to use but cannot find a way around it unless I go to the 'basic' setting and then I can't use any other facility such as drag and drop.
Does anyone know of a way around this?
Thank you

That's routine but, if you've not been migrated to BT Mail yet, also because Yahoo! probably wouldn't have told BT anyway.
licquorice has suggested the best way round it.

  • Maverick mail. In my sent box why do different peoples emails I send end up grouped under the wrong address?

I'm been scratching my head for ages. I've been sending emails using Mail to different clients and then later going to the sent box to check a few things and noticed they've disappeared as if I've never sent them. I've now realised they're being grouped under completely different email addresses.
An example, I'll have an email sent to [email protected] Beside it has the number 9 with an arrow. If you click on this it has got 9 emails sent to 9 completely different people and organisations sent on completely different days (no common denominator).
Has anyone come across this before and if so how can I fix it? It's driving me crazy.

Your first theory may be correct.
If you haven't already, change your password on your .mac account. That will stop any further action by the other fellow. Even if you can't tease out the detail of what happened exactly, you can at least fix the problem with the password change.
Also if you left on good terms, contact the new owner of the workMac and ask if s/he used your .mac account.

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

  • Why does "remove attachments" in Mail now remove entire e-mail?

This is just one of numerous problems with Lion after installing it on MacBook Pro.  Every time I choose "remove attachments" in Mail, it deletes the entire e-mail and I can't bring it back.  Additionally:
    1.     I-Cal entries take forever (delayed entry) and assume I have an all-day event so I now have to enter the event and then open and edit it - additional steps.
    2.     Airport (Wi-Fi) now shuts off without warning and cannot, under any circumstances, be restarted from any of the several screens and buttons that supposedly offer that option.  Therefore, when I switch from Wi-Fi to Ethernet and then back, I have to do a restart.
    3.     The Address Book now has a stylistic but non-functional interface that requires several additional steps to look at anything and there is no longer an option in Mail to "Open in Address Book" without first opening the v-card, once again complicating my life.
    4.     The removal of arows on scroll bars means that I can no longer gradually look at a large file line by line but, rather, have to use the trackpad (which is also jumpy) try to focus in on the area I want by trila and error.  I hate the trackpad for these reasons and now that I have lost the arrows, I have essentially the same problem with the mouse - very cumbersome for anyone doing production type work, rather than just playing.
    5.     My Carbonite no longer works and I see there are compatibility issues with all kinds of other software.  Worse some of my favorite old programs (e.g. Fetch) no longer work in Lion.
    6.     The conversation function in Mail now groups things I don't want grouped (e.g., totally unconnected e-mails with the same words in the subject).  I had to turn that off for this reason.
Overall, Lion is a huge disappointment.  It's all bells and whistles with actual losses in functionality for basic work - style over substance.  This is the same thing I've seen happen with Microsoft Excel as basic issues that needed addressing have been ignored while all sorts of pretty stuff that is pretty much useless has been added.
Even more frustrating is the message I got from Apple Support, which was to re-nstall Lion.  That took 6 hours and resulted in not one correction of any of these issues.  What has Apple done?  This OS was not ready for primetime.

The "feature" I experience is that the message disappears, just as shown in Herbert's video (good work), and that it comes back after a quick mailbox switch. It has nothing to do with message sorting or anything. All my Mail settings are the same as in Mail 4.x, and everything worked fine there. Must be a bug in Mail 5. (Yes, I have reported it.)
The "explanation" that Mail creates a copy without the attachment, instead of keeping the old message without the attachment, doesn't really solve the problem. (Sorry for my extensive use of smileys, it's not my style but sometimes convenient.) The copy should come up without the mailbox switch either way.
    Edit: spelling.

  • E-mail not being delivered - AGAIN!!!

This *****!!! You guys are really ruining my e-mail ability...since I do pay for this service!!! Stop blocking my e-mail! I'm really ******!!!!
This is the second week my e-mail has been rejected by the server and I've not been able to finish sending out my mail to people. I organize a class reunion. I e-mail about 200 people once a week. For some reason there was a change to a setting somewhere along the line and 2 weeks ago my mail stopped being delivered. I stated in my last contact that I would switch to a free service that would allow me to send my mail. I don't use all the .Mac services and I can get web space much cheaper.
Either fix this or consider me (a member for 4+ years) cancelled. I don't have time to write to you guys every week about this. Did I mention I was ******?

It's not like I am sending out huge files or something like that. See below.
This is what I am sending.

Okay, you can stop waiting now. You've got to make your move and send in your money for tickets. Get them before the May 15 deadline and save yourself $40 dollars!
I've heard from so many of you over the past 5 years of working on this project and there has been a great deal of interest over this period of time. So...here we are...it's almost happening and you need a ticket to get in the door.
We had a meeting this weekend in the space rented for the 15 year reunion and we've got such a great location chosen for you guys. We'll be right on the beach which we have access to during the day for those who want to show up with coolers and beach chairs to relax, meet and greet. Bring your kids, spouses and spirit of fun to the afternoon beach time.
You are going to have a great time during the evening. We've got plenty of food available, drinks, music and how many reunions do you know of that have a tower to overlook the entire beach at their disposal?
It's gonna be awesome! And guess what...YOU ARE INVITED!!!
Get your ticket ordered early....save some $$$ and start off your summer right with old friends, fantastic times and new memories.
For a single person it's only $85.00 dollars. If you bring your spouse or date; only $125.00 per couple. And heck, if you've got anyone else you'd like to bring it's only $45.00 for each additional person. You can't beat it for an awesome time.

Parsing through your rant which isn't directed at Apple, it seems you might be exceeding the sending limits included with a .Mac account which are not extreme by any means so take a deep breath and calm down.
All internet service providers and email account providers (even free ones) have sending limits or restrictions for non-business/personal email accounts.
These restrictions are in place as part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from an ISP's or email account provider's domain. In case you aren't aware, spammers make use of bulk spam mailings and these restrictions make it more difficult for a spammer to do his thing.
It makes no difference that you aren't a spammer or the content of your message is not spam since there is no way an ISP or email account provider can make this determination when you send a message but they can impose sending limits or restrictions.
    Copied from the following link.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25301
.Mac has several safeguards in place to ensure that only .Mac members send messages with the Mac.com outgoing mail server. Among them are reasonable limitations on:
    * The number of messages that can be sent each day (200 messages)
    * The number of recipients that can be sent to each day (400 recipients)
    * The number of recipients a message can be addressed to at one time (100 recipients)
    * The size of outgoing messages
There is also a 10 MB maximum size for messages sent or received using the .Mac mail system.
.Mac Email has been designed primarily for personal use. Sending unsolicited bulk email messages through the .Mac email server is prohibited.
If your message is being rejected by a recipient's incoming mail server, what is the return email error message provided which is sent by the recipient's incoming mail server?
Regardless, this problem is with the recipient's email account provider. If the return email error message from the recipient's incoming mail server indicates the recipient has exceeded their allocated server storage space, this the recipient's problem.
So instead of ranting, how about providing more detailed information about the error message provided so someone here can help narrow down where the problem lies so you can direct your efforts there.
IMO - since you use your .Mac account for email only, you should cancel your account but keep in mind that even a "free" service includes sending restrictions which may not be identical to .Mac account restrictions but none are restriction free.

  • Finally using SPAM quarantine and want to know how many e-mails are being released

We have two C660s and one M660 and we are finally using the SPAM quarantine functionality on the M660 and so far it has been awesome.   For my pilot group I have the spam thresholds set as low as recommended by the GUI at 50 (positive) and 25 (suspected)...   First off, if I change these numbers will I see noticiable differences in what is allowed through and what isn't?
My real question is, is there an easy way to see what mail is being released by users from the SPAM quarantine?  Originally I had a content filter setup that was working..   but now it appears that when users are releasing e-mails from the quarantine it is skipping any type of content filtering..  From what I can tell, e-mails are still being routed from the M660 to one of the two C660s for delivery..  but in the mail logs I see information like:
Wed Aug 15 09:34:32 2012 Info: ISQ: Delivering MID 1592784 to ISQ (skipping work queue)

    Hello Jason,
one thing about the trhesholds, the defaults are 50/90 for suspected and positive spam, and that usually works for most customers, in some cases if still spam gets trough we suggest to modify that to 40/80, but you should not get any lower, as this will just increase the number of false positives. In general, the antispam engine delivers a value way above or below the thresholds, means scores are always either below 10 (no spam) or above 90 (spam), very few are inbetween this range, so usually the default setting works.
About the information of which user released a message, there is unfortunately no direct way to get this done. You might try this approach:
    1. mail_logs: Look for the MID of the message when its getting injected to the SMA, note that this is not the same MID as in message tracking.
    2. mail_logs: Look for the message getting released, and note the time stamp:
6 Aug 2012 13:29:21 (GMT) Start Message 10054459 ICID 0 release from Spam Quarantine
    3. Do a
    CLI: grep timestamp euqgui_logs
with the timestamp you retreived  from the mail logs (just use the Day, hour, and minute part), this should get you the log lines for the particular minute, check them for the name of the user who was accessing the GUI at that time.
    Hope that helps,
    Andreas

  • Emails in my 'trash' are being deleted after about 5 weeks, but I want to retain them. I have elected 'never' on the 'permanently erase deleted messages' option, so I'm not sure why this happening?

emails in my 'trash' are being deleted after about 5 weeks, but I want to retain them. I have selected 'never' on the 'permanently erase deleted messages' option, so I'm not sure why this happening? any ideas?

iCloud emails in the Trash are deleted after 30 days on the website, and this over-rides the 'never' setting in Mail. There is no way of stopping this. (The Trash isn't really intended as a permanent storage area.)
Try this workaround. Go to http://www.icloud.com and go to the Mail page. In the sidebar, click on '+' to the right of 'Folders' to create a new folder; give it a suitable name.
Now click on the cogwheel icon at bottom left. At the bottom of the pane which opens, set the 'Move deleted messages to' drop-down menu to your new folder.
I'm not sure whether, when you delete messages in the Mail application, they will go to the Trash or your new folder - you'll need to experiment. I have a nasty feeling that Mail will simply move them to the Trash as before. If this is the case you will have to move them to your new folder manually - dragging messages directly to this folder rather than hitting the delete key will be the easiest way.

  • Think mail is being deleted from inbox automatically?

I have my aol account routed thru mail. I leave mail in my inbox that I need to deal with later, but I have had these disappear after several days. Like it never existed. Spotlight search doesn't find it either. This has been going on since I started using the mail program in January. It only happens on the inbox; mail I've sent is not affected.
I called apple support about this in February, and was told it reflected a change in the mail of my aol box; that the mail program only reflects what is in my aol box. So I have made sure that I never use aol directly; only go thru Mail to access it. And it is still happening. What do I need to do to keep mail from being deleted? I have had one disappear that I had even flagged.
I checked Mail preferences and the "Keep copies of messages for offline viewing" option is "all messages and their attachments"
    What am I doing wrong?
    isight G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
    isight G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   There's usually between 5 and 50 e-mails in my inbox.

I checked via aol webmail. It is not there, either. I suspect it would have been in recently deleted mail if I would have checked within a day of it disappearing, but there were several days where I didn't check my mail, so I missed that window.
I couldn't see where to access mailbox settings via webmail, so I signed on to AOL directly. I checked my preferences for the filing cabinet, and the "automatically delete items in my filing cabinet was not checked, therefore none of the options below that were active. Under mail, save the mail I read, and save the mail I send are checked.
Since I've been using Mac Mail, my filing cabinet on AOL is squirrely. The first thing that happened was all of my saved/incoming mail for over 6 months completely deleted. Since then, it only works "sometimes." It worked most of February, didn't work for several weeks in March (like nothing saved), and worked 3 days in April (4/3-4/6). And I've not changed any settings thru this. This unreliablility is bothersome because I heavily use the saved mail for tracking different items. Any suggestions?

  • Extra Inbox and Random subfolders being created under iMap?

I moved from using Pop to iMap a few days ago and I'm noticing that extra blank inbox subfolders are being created under the main or top level section for mail. Seems like there's multiple copies of folders appearing in the top level mail and individual mail account sections. I currently use two email accounts where I set them up exactly on two laptops. Initially, the folders seemed to be organized in such away that I could understand where messages ended up. Also, email drafts are duplicating several times in the email draft folder where I'm seeing other strange behavior like sent messages appearing in the email draft folder sometimes.
Does anyone know what's causing the creation of these extra folders or why mail has these glitches? How do I go about fixing this? My laptops are running 10.5.8 and 10.5.6.

Thanks Ernie. So far, your recommendation in leaving the primary account's IMAP path prefix as "INBOX" and re-creating the secondary account with a blank prefix seems to be working (got my fingers crossed). The nested inboxes have not come back as I continue to open up and close Mail. The folders seemed to be much more organized and the secondary account folders (sent, draft, trash) are under the secondary account inbox which all reside in the top level mail section (no separate section for the secondary email account was created). I set the primary account's sent, draft, and trash folders to the corresponding sent, draft, and trash folders in the main top level mail section by going to the top menu and selecting Mailbox | Use this mailbox for: Sent , Draft , Trash.
However, whenever I log in to mail now, I get the following message where I select "Don't Change":
Mail needs to change the IMAP path prefix for account “Secondary Account Email” to create the “To Do” mailbox. Do you want Mail to change the prefix now?
    [Don't Change] [Change]
The mail server reported your IMAP path prefix as “INBOX”, but that prefix is not used in the account’s Advanced preferences. Mail can change it for you.
It also created a section called "On My Mac" with three subfolders called ToDos.mbox (Primary Email), ToDos.mbox (Secondary Email), ToDos.mbox (Secondary Email) - 2 duplicate folders?
Lastly, I'm still having an issue with the main draft folder where it's leaving a duplicate copy of sent email. All emails that I've sent today reside in the sent folder and an exact copy is left in the draft folder.
Any recommendations on how to fix this?

  • Has Yosemite fixed Maverick's Mail problem with Group email addresses?

Does anyone know if Yosemite has fixed the problem that Maverick's Mail program had with Contacts? Maverick's Mail program cannot show Group Address names in the email "To:" window. By default, it shows all of the email addresses in a Group rather than the Group name. The work-around requires putting Group Addresses in the "Bcc:" window. Has that problem been fixed in Yosemite?
    Many thanks,
    Bob Winckler

    Hi Barney,
Just found out that Maverick's problem with Mail's Group address procedure has resulted in my email accounts being put on hold by my Internet Provider. I'm the president of a local club, and I routinely send out emails to 200+ email addresses several times a month. Since Maverick's Mail now doesn't keep Group addresses hidden when shown in the email "To:" window, we have to put those Group addresses into the "Bcc:" window.  The first couple of times that I did that, the emails went through, but the third time that I tried to send out such an email, my Internet Provider shut down my email account with the statement "Your ability to send new mail has been suspended as a high volume of suspicious mail has been sent from your account recently. Please contact your IT administrator."  The IT administrator required me to run a virus check and then set a new password for my account before they would reactivate it. In my discussions with several of my Internet Provideer's tech reps, it appears that the way the way that the Internet Provider has their server's security system set, a high volume of email addresses in the "Bcc:" section of emails is enough to shut down an account as suspicious. Until Apple gets this problem fixed, my only options are to switch internet providers (after finding one that will let high volumes of "Bcc:" go through) or switch to an older Mac operating system, which I've done (now using an ancient iMac 400DV running Tiger (OS 10.4.11).  Given the high number of businesses, etc., likely to be using Macs, I'm really surprised that Apple has let this problem with Maverick's Mail program go uncorrected.
    Best regards,
    Bob W

  • Can't add a mail enabled public folder to allowed senders on a mail universal security group in Exchange 2010

    Hello,
I'm trying to allow a mail enabled public folder permissions to send to a mail universal security group. In the past if I wanted to add a PF as an allowed sender I would do it via the AuthOrig setting on that group using adsiedit.  I just noticed today
that if I add the PFs DN to that attribute of the group, nothing happens.  No matter how long I wait the PF never shows up under the allowed senders list on the group. If you try and send as the PF you get a bounce about not being allowed to send to that
group.  If I go back into AD and check, the PF is still listed under the AuthOrig attribute.  I tried this on a few different groups and with a few different PF and I'm stumped.  I think the last time I had to update this setting on a group
    was before I installed roll-up 5 for SP3.
If I do the same test with a user, it works as it should and they show up in the allowed senders list.
If I take a group that isn't restricted to specific senders and add a PF DN to the AuthOrig attribute of the group, the button in the message delivery restrictions for that group in the EMC will change from all senders to only senders in the following list,
but the PF wont be listed in the box of allowed senders.  If I remove it from the AuthOrig attribute the group will change back to allow all senders.  It's really weird, so any help or light you can shed on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
I check many threads and articles, but there is no related information to verify the issue.
If your purpose is that adding a mail-enabled public folder to allowed senders on a distribution group, there is a workaround method. You can create a new distribution group, and then add the public folder to the new distribution group, and add
the new distribution group to the Only senders in the following list field of the target distribution group.

  • Spot light long recurrent indexing (days/weeks) on MBP - version 10.7.5

    Hi there.
Each time I turn on my MBP, Spotlight starts running and after several minutes (half an hour) says it will need several days / weeks to complete the indexing.
This process consumes a lot of CPU and slows down the whole machine including VMWare Fusion.
I bought this MBP 2 years ago and always worked fine before installing 10.7.5.
My Mac OSX version is 10.7.5.
    My MBP: Processor 2.53 Ghz Interl Core i5 / Memory = 8Go - 1067mHZ - DDR3.
I also use a Time Capsule 2 To.
I have found many forums about a bug in version 10.7.5. with the same symptoms.
Unfortunately, no solution has been found so far.
I was hoping that installing Lion Mountain would solve this issue but after reading your thread it gives me evidence it does not.
Does somebody have a solution to fix this issue?
Thanks in advance for your kind help.
    Cheers,
    Philippe

Indeed, I noticed, even though the VM files have been excluded from Time Machine, Time Machine goes slower when the VM is open and faster when it is closed.
Are you sure they're all excluded?  If they are, using them should make no noticeable difference in the speed of the backups (assuming the VM files are on the Mac's internal HD).  The only exception I can think of would be, if they're not excluded from Spotlight, and it's having trouble indexing them, your CPU may get maxed-out.
    >> I think they are all excluded from TM as you can see in the above screenshot. What do you think Pondini?
If there's any doubt, run a backup while the files are not in use.  Then open them and run another backup.  If it backs up a lot of data, once the backup is done, see what actually got backed-up, via one of the apps in #A2 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting.   That may shed some light on what's happening.
    >> If you think there is a doubt I will do it.
You may also want to look at your CPU usage;  if it's maxed-out, everything will run more slowly.  Use the Activity Monitor app.  If you're not familiar with it, it's in your Applications/Utilities folder and has pretty good Help).  Click the CPU tab at the bottom, and watch the % idle.  If that's under about 10% consistently, that's likely a problem.  If so, you'll need to dig deeper to see what it is and what you can do about it.
    >> I think the % idle is good as always around 90%
While you're at it, click the Disk Usage tab, and see what percentage is free.  If it's under 10% or 10 GB, that's likely a problem.  If it's fairly close to that, it could be affecting your performance, depending on several factors.
    >> I think the Disk Usage is good as there are still 92.24 GB free
Yesterday, I used Time Machine and it lasted 3,5 hours which is quite reasonable since the last time I used it was 10 days ago.
Only if it backed-up a lot of data -- 3 GBs or so if you're backing-up wirelessly, double that or more if via Ethernet.
    >> The last back-up I did was 269.7 Mo (3,5 hours) via Ethernet

Between, Spotlight is still working fine:).
Thanks again for your kind help Pondini.
I am off to the Pyrenees now and will be back on Monday.
I wish you a very pleasant weekend.

  • Mail-disable Security Groups

    Good afternoon,
We are in the process of migrating to Office 365 in the cloud.
I'm at the point where I need to start moving Distribution Groups to the cloud.
My issue is that our Security Department who creates our Distribution and Security groups has been creating most of our Security Groups as mail-enables ones. So they show up in the GAL and people email those as Distribution Groups.
My company's practice has always been to then make a manager a manager of the DLs so they can add/remove users manually as needed.
Now that the Manager mailboxes are in the Office 365 cloud, and the Mail-enabled Security Groups are on Premises, they can no longer manage the members through Outlook.
My though was to Disable-DistributionGroup -Identity "United States Users", which will remove the Exchange attributes, then try to create a new Enable-DistributionGroup -Identity "United States Users" and add the members and use
an actual Distribution Group for email purposes only, and not affect the Security Group in AD as to not disrupt the permissions where its being used. I also noticed that after trying the disable-DistributionGroup command and waiting for DirSync to complete,
the group is still visible in the GAL, even through Outlook.
Does anyone know what I need to do to get this to work?
My ultimate goal is to get DLs migrated to the cloud so that Managers can administer their own Distribution Groups again through Outlook.

    Hi,
Based on my knowledge, after disabling a distribution group, we can remove it from the GAL. In your case, I recommend you update the GAL at first, and then check if this distribution group is visible in the GAL.
Hope this can be helpful to you.

I switched e-mail clients from windows live to thunderbird in mid december to alleviate problems in sending group e-mail. I have thunderbird on a different laptop and the product works flawlessly. The client works flawlessly with one exception: It automatically deletes any read e-mail in my inbox every 14 days without any input from me. I have checked settings and there are no evident features that I can switch on or off with that time frame. This has occurred 3 times since December and I have resorted to printing e-mails to prevent loss of data.
