Mail v8.2 Repository Limit on OS X 10.10.2?

Mail Mavens,
Does Mail v8.2 impose a file size limit (OS X Yosemite)?
For the last ~week, Mail on my MacBook Air opens (sort of) but freezes without loading the most recent emails (sometimes Mail is days out-of-date). By freezes, I mean non-responsive.
Note: I use Mail to support ~10 Email accounts (most of which are Google Gmail)...and have not had this problem before about a ~week ago.
Ideas? Suggestions?

Retrieve Fullname, e-mail from CMS repository

I have a simple challenge for anyone who has experience with querying the CMS repository. I have been reviewing the SDK and am really confused on the factory design and instantiation of the BO Infoobject classes.
I need to capture the Fullname and e-mail from the CMS repository and insert into a second database's table. It will be used as a reference to users who have access to BO.   Currently we are only using CE logins (no LDAP or Windows logins.)
No user interface will be required, just simple database connections from the CMS repository to the history database.
Any help?

N95 2 e-mail account auto retrieve limit

Hi,
Does anyone out there know if there is a way around the 2 account "auto retrieve" limit on the N95 e-mail client. You can have more than 2 e-mail accounts but only two can auto retrieve..!!!! if you try to set a third to auto retrieve it says maximum "auto retrieve" reached.

Not sure, I don't use the auto retrieve, can't see any options though.
I guess most people don't need to do that for more than 2...
You could set them to forward to another, then just check that one? Maybe :s

Virtual mail hosts: 255 character limit on SPF records

This one was a surprise to me, and caused a lot of headache, so I thought I'd pass it along.
I'm running multiple virtual mail hosts off of my doughty PowerMac single G5 1.8GHz running OS X Server 10.4.11. Some of the outgoing mail was being bounced as spam because a) there wasn't an SPF record on any of the domains and b) the domain of the mailserver didn't always match the domain of the sender. (Most often, it went out under the hostname of the server, cerberus.limbo.jcf.org—which is useless, since that's a LAN address.)
Trying to be a good citizen (and make sure that all of everyone's mail got through), I added SPF records that explicitly named each and every mailserver on the machine, just so that everything was clear and aboveboard—but they ended up being about 500 characters long.
Fastforward a week or two... and I was having problems with my DNS zones loading—I'd get errors that they'd timed out. After pulling my hair out for a while, I discovered that TXT records have a limit of 255 characters (including spaces, etc.) Some folks running servers on non-OS X Server machines have split the records over multiple TXT records (does that even work?), but you get exactly one TXT record per OS X Server machine: the Comment box.
I've now simplified the SPF records so that they read something like this:

To translate:
• +v=spf1 a mx+ It authorizes deliveries from any IP listed in the DNS zone, and from any mailserver defined in the zone
• +mx:cerberus.limbo.jcf.org mx:cerberus.jcf.org mx:jcf.org+ It also explicitly authorizes deliveries from the server's main LAN and internet DNS names as well as the domain of the foundation for which I work (and through which emails are occasionally relayed)
• +ip:173.164.140.96/30 ip:207.58.140.213/30+ Next it authorizes the public static IP blocks for the server and the foundation's remote server
• +include:comcast.businessclass.net include:comcast.com+ Finally it includes the domain names of the ISP through which most of the mail are relayed
• -all The last item says that if the mail didn't originate from one of those addresses, it isn't ours.
(I think that I've got that right. If I've botched it anywhere, let me know, okay?)
That's 169 characters. The DNS zones loaded happily, and the mail seems to be going out without getting bounced. So far so good!
(There's probably a way to get the hostname on each email to match the domain from which it is being addressed, but I haven't gotten there yet.)

You can control this via the myhostname setting in Postfix. This defines the name it uses to identify itself to remote mail servers, which sounds like it'll address a lot of your issues.

OK, this doesn't make sense. You don't need to list every virtual hostname for every domain.
All you need to do is add this specific mail server's address in each domain.
There's no requirement that the hostname of the mail server matches the domain name, so it's entirely valid to create an SPF record in domain1.com that lists mailserver.someotherdomain.com as authoritative. Then, as long as postfix's myhostname says it's mailserver.someotherdomain.com and your reverse DNS resolves to that address your problem is solved.
...but you get exactly one TXT record per OS X Server machine: the Comment box.
Unless you edit your zone file directly and add whatever other records you like. However, given the above, I don't think the 255-character limit should be an issue.
Even if you didn't want to mess with your zone files directly there's still a way around that - SPF allows for an 'include' record which basically tells remote servers to include the record from some other domain, so for each domain you could just tell it to include some other domain's record (which, in turn, could include another domain) allowing virtually unlimited record length (or, at least, 255 characters per domain you manage).

Bzzzz. You've now allowed any other customer of comcastbusiness.net and comcast.com to send mail on your behalf. You probably don't want to do that. When you consider that 'comcast.com' includes every one of their residential customers you can see that you really don't want to do that.

IPad Mail - Maximum Attachment Size Limit (Sending)

Is there a maximum size limit for attachments that the iPad Mail App can send?
We have an iPad connected to an Exchange server through our internal wireless network. Mail is received by it (even with very large attachments) but if an email is sent with one or more attachments that total over 10MB, the email stays in outbox with an error "Cannot Send Mail" "An error occurred while delivering this message."
I've checked all of the limits on the Exchange server but these are all set to 20MB. Smaller attachments (6MB, 8MB, etc) work without any issues. I've searched these forums and around the internet but haven't been able to find anything about this and nothing about where any such limit would be configured.

Done it! My colleague found an article here: http://www.i-tekpro.com/BlogArchive/Exchange2007/Max-Message-Size-Increase-Excha nge-2007-CAS.htm that discussed how to change a limit in an Exchange ActiveSync config file that seems to have been tripping us up. We changed the limit and got the email through. It's worth noting that this also applies to Exchange 2010, not just 2007.

Sending automatic e-mail after change credit limit

Hi All,
I need to send an external e-mail after a change credit limit happened.
If the credit manager changes the credit limit credit-KNKK KLIMKE (via FD32 tcode), when he click on "save" I need to send an automatic e-mail to the the customer manager.
I didn't find any user-exit or enhancement.
Can anyone help me or show me how to solve the problem?

Can't send mail due to exceed limit?

Hi,
I am having some issues with my iPhone 3GS. Recently, whenever I try to send an email from my MobileMe account, I get the following error message:
A copy has been placed in your Outbox. Sending the message failed because you exceeded your sending limit.
I know Mobileme has a restriction of 200 messages per day, however I am sending one or two email so this is not the issue. Anyone have any ideas?

More than likely, yes, but since a MobileMe account is accessed as an IMAP account, when accessing the account with an email client you have the option to store messages on the server or locally on the hard drive or device. If your account has been compromised and someone is accessing the account with an email client on their computer, they could choose not to store the sent messages on the server so you wouldn't see them.

IOS7 mail problem: Can't Limit Recent Messages

It seems iOS7 eliminated the option to set the number of recent e-mails to have on the phone. Looking at the MacWorld guide to iOS7 I found the following : "Similarly, a few settings are no longer available: the option to choose how many recent messages to show..." This is a problem for me, I have about 30,000 gmail messages, I don't need them all on the phone. Unless there is an option I can't find, I would respectfully request Apple consider providing thie "# recent" option to iOS7.

James Send to Junk Mail

Hello , i am using james 2.2.0 installed on a server with a online DNS , it recives mails properly , but when i try to send emails ( also when using Authenticated SMTP) , mail go to junk mails ( as hotmail and yahoo) , When i use Outlook express outside the server to send mail i get the following error :

you have to change the config.xml to allow the server accept relay mails from your host machine from which you are sendign the mail ...
ie
change

add few more ips (your network / subnet ip)
so that it accpets mails from that machine to be relayed ...

POP Account No Longer Downloading Mail From BT Yahoo

My setting have remained totally unchanged for the last six months, but Thursday evening I stopped receiving any of my emails via "Mail" from my BT account (.mac is still working). I had downloaded some 20 small audio files from a friend (a job I'm involved with) that evening - and wonder whether it triggered some kind of mechanism at the server -but I can still send out from mail to the server, or forward to the .mac account from the server at Yahoo. I assume this will be a BT issue, and not my problem, as I have no filters set up and all settings set to receive all incoming mail, dubious or not? Anyone else suddenly had any issues? Thanks in advance.
PS I also deleted all the incoming mail that had attachments just in case 'mail' had reached its limit, but even my test message isn't coming back to me (but it is appearing on the BT Yahoo web page).

I had a very competent help desk employee talk me through the problem today. It was either a corrupt email causing a blockage, or more likely that the webmail in-box had reached its capacity (apparently even with 'unlimited' accounts they can get too big and cause a blockage thus preventing MacMail from being able to pull emails from the server). I created a new folder on my ISP's Webmail and transferred everything there - then once I'd hit 'get new email' from within Mail gradually (probably ten to twenty minutes) things started to flow in as they should. No idea how the .mac emails got onto the webmail and I've not checked this out yet -but at least it works again at a very important time!

Mail crashes when I try to add a rule

I'm running 10.6.8. I have a somewhat large and complex mail folder. Everytime I try to add a rule mail gives me the spinning beach ball of death. I'm tried throwing away the rule plist. I've tried a clean install on a new disk with nothing on the disk added except firefox and flash. I've been on the phone with Applecare numerous times. Anyone have any ideas? Should I just give up?
Does anyone know if Mail has a size limit for mail or for how many layers folders can be nested?

can't make much of this crash log but try this. when you get to the smtp server page in setup assistant hold option while clicking "create" or 'continue". this will skip the actual server validation and might prevent crashing.

Email Triggering on FD32 when Customer Credit limit exceeds

Dear All,
We have a requirement to trigger an e-mail, whenever the credit limit of a customer is exceeded, the credit limit are in FD32.
A mail should go to the customer, with attachment as a specific pdf format.
So does writing an email functionality in a report and submitting it in background is recommended or there is a way through which email can be triggered.

To break-up the size of your mailbox folders, you could divide your messages up into several mailboxes. This way your inbox doesn't over-fill and cause trouble.
Click on the little plus sign down on the bottom left of your Mail program (under the Inbox, deleted, etc.).
This will create additional mailboxes.
I usually have some that are sorted like this:
Business Keep
Personal Keep
Purchased items receipts (like confirmations for online purchases)
and, so on.
I'll organize messages I want to keep into those folders, and then it keeps my inbox clean.
You can get as specific and organized as you like. The idea is to keep things running smooth, and know where to find stuff.

How large is too large for an Apple Mail folder?

My Apple Mail folder is around 3 GBs. Is there a limit to how big Apple Mail's folder can be?

Individual mailboxes are limited, but not the size of the Mail folder. In Mail 2.x, the limit for a single mailbox is 2 GB. Since each account has its own set of mailboxes, the limit for an Inbox, let's say, would be 2 GB per account.

The server might declare the maximum message size it accepts using the SMTP SIZE extension.
You can query for the value using:
((SMTPTransport)transport).getExtensionParameter("SIZE")
That's the total size of a message. Note that not all servers will return this information, even
though they might enforce a limit.
Computing the actual size of a message can be expensive.
The simplest approach is something like this:
CountingOutputStream cos = new CountingOutputStream();
msg.writeTo(new CRLFOutputStream(cos));
int size = cos.getSize();
CRLFOutputStream is in the JavaMail download bundle in the demo directory.
You have to write CountingOutputStream by subclassing OutputStream and counting the
number of bytes written without doing anything with them.
