Mailbox windows re-set themselves, no message shows

Suddenly my Mail program's Inbox/Sender windows, which always showed Senders and their addresses above and then, when I selected a mail, displayed the message below-- with the Address panel still above, shows only a long list of every email I've ever gotten in my Inbox (or whatever mailbox I go to). No message is displayed below. I can only get a message to display by actually clicking to open it.
Perhaps I clicked something by mistake-- like the lower lefthand message window size thingie. But I want it back the way it was, with sender addresses on top and the selected message displayed below. However, I can't find anything to shrink the address panel above and bring back the message panel below. I've tried the Help section, but I think my question must be too stupid for it. I've tried clicking under "Window" and "View", too, but nothing in the pulldown menus seem right. HELP!

No mailboxes show up in the Mailbox window

I'm kind of at a loss at this point. Since this morning, none of my mail boxes are showing up. The accounts are there. They get mail. But I can't see anything in the Mailbox window. Just the separator going down the vertical and a grey section on both sides of it.
I've deleted the accounts. Deleted the ~/Library/Mail folder. Deleted the mail plist file.
When I add an account back, I can see it in the accounts list in preferences, but still can't see it in the Mailbox window.
Anyone seen anything like this?

Unfortunately I do not know enough about Entourage and Syncing to provide you with an answer regarding Entourage, but I noted that nsxstorm has provided some good advice to another user regarding Entourage. Additional nsxstorm posts regarding Entourage.
In the interim, I would recommend that you Backup your database (iCal>File>Back Up Database...) and then revert to the database (iCal>File>Revert to Database Backup...).

Why Outlook email messages show unreadable characters

When you receive a new email in Outlook, you may see unreadable characters in the email message body. This issue could be caused by one of the following reasons on Outlook client side:
The email you received is converted to plain text format or a different encoding by a virus scanner.
This always happens when you are using characters (Such as apostrophes, double quotes, dashes, and ellipsis) supported by the "Smart Quotes" feature. When the email you received is converted to plain text format or a different encoding by a virus
scanner, the character is converted from the ASCII character to a Unicode character, which is not supported on the recipient’s side.
To prevent this issue from happening, we can turn off the “Smart Quotes” Feature in Outlook:
1. Open Outlook 2013.
2. Click File > Options > Mail.
3. Click Spelling and AutoCorrect button.
4. In the Editor Options window, click AutoCorrect Options button to open the AutoCorrect dialog.
5. Click AutoFormat tab, and then clear the check box before “Straight quotes” with “smart quotes” under Replace heading.
6. Click OK.
The issue may be related to font substitution when a change is made to the Web Options in Microsoft Word.
If a change is made to the Web Options in Microsoft Word, registry data under the following key may be configured incorrectly:

2. Click Actions button in the Move group under Message tab.
3. Click Other Actions > Encoding.
4. Click More and select the correct encoding setting for the email.
5. After you finish reading the message, close the message, and click Yes button to save changes to the message.
When we send an email with Outlook, we can set Outlook to automatically select encoding for outgoing email messages to increase the possibility that the recipient receiving the message will see all the characters rendered properly, even if they run older
e-mail programs. By default, Outlook 2013 will automatically select an optimal encoding for outgoing e-mail messages. We can change the settings here in Outlook 2013: File > Options > Advanced > International Options section.
Something you may need to know when you set the encoding settings:
* The Unicode (UTF-8) character enables the complete range of characters on all computers. It’s the official IANA code for the UTF-8 character encoding.
* Western European (ISO) and Western European (Windows) character set can be read by almost all computers.
* If you are using a language other than English, you must choose the correct character set for that language, or the characters you need will not be displayed correctly.

AS of August 1, 2011 3 times upon login, I get a message "Windows is setting up...." this runs and then my desktop reverts to the out of the box black and white desktop - AND I lose everything - email addresses, emails, and ALL files and folders. I shut down - power down, then power up and log in again - and everything is back- Everything!

it could be a corrupt partition or something...But it sounds serious.
what I would actually do if this was happening to me... back up everything! NOW!
it sounds like the recovery wasn't completed correctly and could be trying to finish.
It also could be an update that has not completed.
Just a ton of possibilities.
To eliminate the possibility of any hardware issues - I'd run the diags from boot up press F9. You may even want to go into BIOS and run the short Hard Drive test. (F10)
If no hardware problems show up, I'd then run a recovery. Becasue the symptom you are describing happens if the recovery was not run to completion, or was interupted at some point. Could have been months ago...

Why is my Sent mailbox (Google IMAP) set to read only in Apple Mail?

Hi there,
After a total and clean reinstall of Yosemite, Apple Mail behaves strangely. Mi Sent mailbox is read only and no messages are downloaded from the Google's IMAP server though I have 8000+ messages in there. The Draft mailbox is also read only, so that I can't save any drafts (actually this mailbox doesn't even appear). I tried to set up Mail right after finishing the second clean install (before even setting up my iCloud account). I have no idea what could be wrong.

Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock those files and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-

If you have already created an iCloud account on a Mac or and iOS device you can sign into it in the Windows iCloud Control Panel. However, if you have not previously set up an iCloud account you cannot do so on a Windows PC, only on a Mac or iOS device.

I need to transfer the Smart Mailboxes I have set up on one computer to another computer. Both are running 10.8.4 and Mail 6.3. None of the old solutions are viable since there is no longer a 'Mail' folder in the User account.

I acquired a new iMac, and need to transfer the Smart Mialboxes I have set up on my Mac Pro to the iMac. Mail is already set up to sync thorough iCloud, but the Smart mailboxes are - apparently - set up for individual machines. The only solutions I have been able to locate involve moving Preference files from one machine to the other; the problem is that there is no longer a 'Mail' folder set up for individual Users (actually there is no Mail folder at ALL under 10.8.4), and I am unable to locate any .plist files for Mail at all. Any idea how to make this haoppen?

Create a new smart mailbox. Does it sync? If not, do as below.
Back up all data.
1. Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder may open, or you may get an error message that the item can't be found. Either result is normal. If the folder does open and has contents, move the contents to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail and test. If there's no change, put the contents of the folder back and quit Mail again.
2. Repeat with this line:
/Library/Mail/Bundles
This time you may be prompted for your login password when you remove the items. Make sure they're removed from the folder and not just copied to the Desktop. If necessary, copy them first and then move the originals to the Trash.
