Mailboxes reference old mailbox server name

Exchange 2010 SP2 RU7
We are preparing to decommission one of our mailbox servers in a DAG and it currently contains no mailboxes or database copies. However, when we run  get-mailbox -server OLDSERVER there seems to be a few mailboxes that still reflect this server in their
ServerName and ServerLegacyDN attributes. The Database value for every one points to the correct database, which does not have a copy on OLDSERVER (but used to as of last week).
We haven't gotten any reports of user issues, and all databases have the CAS array as the RPC Client Access Server. Should these values eventually update on their own? Exchange is still running on OLDSERVER - should these values be manually updated prior
to decommission?
Running an Update-Recipient on a few of these mailboxes had no effect. All Exchange services have been restarted on OLDSERVER.

Did some more digging, and the Server attribute seems to pull from homeMTA and ServerLegacyDN attribute from msExchHomeServerName.
Looks like these attributes are not used by 2010 any more:

  • Mask / Hide APSTOKEN server name in URL Reporting

OEM .Net application that calls RPTs from CR-SERVER 2008 using the URL Reporting method.
The URL that is being generated includes the APSToken value which references the SPECIFIC server name that generated the Token.
    -EXAMPLE_
    http://<SERVERNAME>:8080/CrystalReports/viewrpt.cwr?cmd=EXPORT&EXPORT_FMT=U2FPDF:0&id=2328&prompt0=210957811&apstoken=<FULLYQUATIFIEDSERVERNAME.DOMAIN>%3a6400%409117JF2IijEkii4fck7K9115JXNgUXMspRPgu8w6
IT Security won't be happy to see that Plain Text info in the URL of each report.
Is there a way to HIDE or MASK that <FULLYQUATIFIEDSERVERNAME.DOMAIN> value in URL reporting...?
My personal preference would be to tell the OEM supplier to use the full BOE SDK to make the report calls to the CR-SERVER 2008. This seems like they took the "easy" way....

    Adam -
Thanks for the input, that's what I thought...
I don't think Single Sign-On (SSO) will work as it is a "Public Facing" application using a Generic "Enterprise" account for access.
Right now they are still using Administrator (No Password) "Enterprise" account - but we will have them fix that before it goes PROD.
There is no LDAP or WinAD layer that we can leverage for SSO since it faces the "Public".
My original advice was that they have the OEM application use the full .NET SDK for BOE/CR-Server rather than the URL method - and it looks like that would be the most secure method given the current constraints.
    Thanks,

  • How to find old mailbox database name

    Hi,<o:p></o:p>
We are using Exchange server 2007, we recently moved one user from one database to another database. But we didn't notice source database name while
we move. After a week time user asking us to restore one month old data but now we didn't know were user was there earlier before moved to new database. Is there any way to find old mailbox database name for the particular user?<o:p></o:p>
Your help is really appreciated. Thanks<o:p></o:p>

    Try this friend:
    Option1:
get-mailbox [email protected] | Get-MailboxStatistics -IncludeMoveHistory | ft DisplayName, MoveHistory
    Option2:
If you have trouble use below to generate in csv to get old DB status of user:
    $temp=Get-MailboxStatistics -Identity AylaKol -IncludeMoveReport
    $temp.MoveHistory[0] | Export-CSV C:\MoveReport_AylaKol.csv
    Option 3:
    C:\>(Get-MailboxStatistics alan.reid -IncludeMoveHistory).MoveHistory | select CompletionTimestamp,SourceDatabase,TargetDatabase | ft -auto

  • Exchange 2013 mailbox name resolving vs. exchange server name (mailbox rule)

    Hello guys,
I am running exchange 2007 and exchange 2013 CU7 in hybrid mode, while internal autodiscover a record is pointing to exchange 2007 client rule server.
When I configure outlook mailbox located on exchange 2007- I can use autodiscover using mail address ore resolve mailbox name vs. exchange server name.
When I configure outlook mailbox located on exchange 2013- I can configure it only using autodiscover mechanism ( email address - next- next etc.).
We are using EMC backup software which works with MAPI. Since I wasn't able to restore granular mailboxes, I contacted EMC and they claimed that it's very important to configure mailboxes resolving.
What should I check and configure to make it work?

    Hi,
I think if we want to browse single mailbox by backup software, it will be regard to resolve mailbox name using server name, I suggest you contact  EMC supplier to improve it.
By the way, they I type mailbox name which located on exchange 2013 server database and typing exchange 2007 cluster name, server name of exchange 2007 cluster changes automatically to exchange 2013 server on which this mailbox located.
A: first, we should make sure cluster was worked without any problem. Then make sure Exchange 2013 mailbox server was included in cluster.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.
    Best Regard,

  • Cleanup after a 2013 forklift migration...leftover non-user mailboxes on old server?

So, I did a forklift migration from 2013 RTM to 2013 SP1. Everything is great with 1 exception: Arbitration and system mailboxes still think they are on the RTM server, so I can't remove the RTM server from the environment.
I ran the powershell command to "re-home" all the user mailboxes to the SP1 server's database...it succeeded!
Because the original information store file isn't mounted on the RTM server, I can't issue a get-mailbox -arbitration | New-Moverequest -Targetdatabase
    "SP1 SERVER'S DATABASE"
    My question:
Wouldn't a forklift have brought the Arbitration and system mailboxes to the new SP1 server and all I have to do is run a seperate command to rehome them specifically?
Is there a better way? Can I safely recreate the Arbitration and system mailboxes on the SP1 server?
    -Dane

Hi Martina, thanks for chiming in!
Upon running that, I get the list of all mailboxes in that Old Database.

    (get-mailboxdatabase) | foreach-object {write-host $_.name (get-mailbox -database $_.name).count}
What i want is i also need the Server name and the DAG name (If possible) in this script so i get the output in the below format
    What i get is:
Database name  | No of mailboxes in the DB
    XXXXX                         250
    What i want is:
Server name   | Database name  | No of mailboxes in the DB  | DAG name (If possible)

    DAG01
Can any one help me in making this script plz.

    Hi Peter,
Script works well and Good. But i cannot export the same in a CSV File. I used the below commands. But the output csv file is empty. I can just view the data in the monitor in the powershell window.
Any idea how can i export this in CSV ?
    (get-mailboxdatabase) | foreach-object {write-host $_.Server, $_.name (get-mailbox -resultsize
    unlimited -database $_.name).count, $_.masterserveroravailabilitygroup} | Export-csv -Path C:\Rpt.csv
    And
    (get-mailboxdatabase) | foreach-object {write-host $_.Server, $_.name (get-mailbox -resultsize
    unlimited -database $_.name).count, $_.masterserveroravailabilitygroup} >C:\Rpt.csv

  • Broken mailbox - 10.4.6 server

    Hi
One of my users had a broken mailbox, so I tried to Reconstruct it in Server Admin. This appeared to do nothing at all! I also tried running reconstruct from the command-line in Terminal (/usr/bin/cyrus/bin/reconstruct daxxxx) but this didn't appear to do anything either!
As the user hadn't too many new messages in the mailbox, he was quite happy for me to delete and recreate the user account. The bad news is that although the user account in Workgroup Manager was deleted, the mailbox account was not. So when I added a new user with the same name (so as not to have to change the email address), this simply picked up the old broken mailbox! (This one wouldn't reconstruct either).
The end result is that I have had to set up a totally different user account and forward the email from the original account to this one. Whilst this works, it's not the solution I wanted.
What could I have done to either reconstruct the original mailbox properly or completely deleted and re-instated the user account?
Thanks for your help on this one.
    Richard.
PS the instructions for recreating the mailboxes on 10.3 server is said in the documentation not to work on 10.4 server, so I didn't try them, although I have used them in the past on 10.3 server.

Thanks for the advice. It's taken me a while to get back to this one.
The single sheet PDF by Ben Masters proved to be the most useful advice, although I had to make some changes in order to delete the broken mailbox.
First, I had to Stop and Start Mail in order to get the admin change in /etc/imapd.conf to take effect.
Second, where the original document gave user/testuser in the cyradm commands, I had to substitute 'Other Users'/testuser. This is because the lm command results showed as
    Other Users/testuser
    Other Users/testuser1
    and so on.
Third, the sam and dm commands wouldn't work because the permissions on the items in the broken mailbox were set as 600. Once I did a chmod to 777 the sam and dm commands worked properly and I was finally rid of the broken mailbox.
I hope that other visitors here may find these comments helpful.

  • Powershell command to migrate Exchange 2007 mailbox databases with a legacy name, & import them into a new 2007 instance, with a new name.

Hi All. I am currently at the later stage of provisioning a new CCR Exchange 2007 migration (to
virtualise old Exchange 2007 hardware) for 5,000 users & have a quick question.
I have created around 15 newly named storage groups, & have named 1 new DB per group, with the same name (let's say New-DB-1), residing within them.  The problem I have, is the old legacy DB's have different names (let's say Old-DB-1) & I need
to import them into the new storage groups, to match the new names. So far I can import/export between old & new OK if both old & new DB names\folders etc. names marry up perfectly, but are unable to if there not the same. Does anyone have any thoughts
on how best to tackle this, as this is one of the final hurdles stopping the migration? Many Thanks, John

    Hi All
    Many Thanks for the feedback.
The terminology 'migrate' was used based around the fact I will be decommissioning the old 2007 physical environment. This is after moving all DB's over to the new newly created Virtual environment that will host all roles.
The solution I ended up using yesterday, was the following:
    1) Dismounted the relevant named DB (NEWDB) in the new environment.
    2) I then ticked the 'This database can be overwritten by a restore option' box.
    3) Copied over the old named DB (OLDDB) to the same location, & overwrote using the new name (NEWDB).
    4) Re-mounted the (NEWDB).
    5) Ran the following 2 PowerShell commands:
     Get-mailbox –database OLDDB | move-mailbox –targetdatabase NEWDB -configurationonly:$true
     Get-MailboxDatabase NEWDB | ResetSearchIndex.ps1 -force
    6) Checked to make sure the clients were working ok, in the now the new (NEWDB) environment.
Rich: Many thanks for your PS script, which I will test with future DB moves & provide feedback

  • Migrating Exchange 2013 public mailboxes to a new server

We have a client that is leaving their current Hosting company and wants to move to our hosting facility. We have recreated their DC,an Exchange Hub, and Exchange Store. We have exported and imported all of their recipient mailboxes and flipped the switch
and all mail flow is now going through our hosting facility. The problem lies in that I can not figure out how to move the public mailboxes out of the old exchange server and import it into the new server. Both are Exchange 2013 and running on windows server
2012. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You're looking at a third-party product.  MigrationWiz does public folders.  There are other cloud-based migration solutions, but I don't know whether they support public folder migrations.

  • SQL server name change - old content DB mounted but url is empty

Reconfigured Sharepoint with new sql server name by creating new farm administration, then mounted the old wss content DB.
When i open the old site name is says page cannot be found. Then i went and recreated the site using the same site name and it works but it does not show the old content. Please help.
The aim is to shift Sharepoint from pointing to the old SQL Server to the new server.
    nchiliza

    Hi Nchiliza,
How did you mount the old content database to the new SharePoint?
From your description, it seems that the database was not mounted successfully.
If the database has been mounted successfully, then all the site collections created in the original web application will be listed under the new web application. You can check this in Central Administration.
I recommend to detach the content database and then reattach it again.
    Dismount-SPContentDatabase "<ContentDBName>"
    Mount-SPContentDatabase "<ContentDBName>" -DatabaseServer "<DBServerName" -WebApplication

  • OS X,5.8- Mail 3.6-storing old Mailbox files

Why can't I simply move all the old Mailboxes to a DVD to store them for future reference?
I'm tired of too many complications and rules. I want to keep things simple! Thanks.

    Dear Thomas Reed,
The reason I have posed this question is that I earnestly tried for several days to follow the
directions given by Mail Help on how to Archive. When I got to #3 of their directions, which
'says "Choose a folder or create a new folder where you want to store the archives, and
    then click Choose.'
Since I had no idea where the Choose was to click, I was completely stymied and could get no
further help from that source. If you can tell me how to proceed from that point, I woud be
    grateful. Thanks for your suggestions.

  • How to recover mailbox details in Exchange server 2007

    Hi,
Problem is Exchange server 2007 user mailbox has been deleted and it’s already purged. Now we need to recover that mailbox. Is there any way to recover purged mailbox in Exchange server 2007?
Or we are planning create new mailbox and help me to find old mailbox server and database details then I will restore data from backup. Please suggest if you have better idea than this one. Thanks

I would suggest using one of your backups and creating a recovery database and pulling the users mailbox from that recovery database.

  • Reference to database and/or server name in '' is not supported in this version of SQL Server

    Hello all
    I am using C# and ADO.NET (native) - Visual Studio 2013.
I am always using full qualified queries like "SELECT * FROM [database].[schema].[table]"
Obviously there is a problem when doing this against SQL Azure,
I get the following error: "Reference to database and/or server name in '' is not supported in this version of SQL Server"
Interesting fact: With SQL Management Studio, the same query works.
I need to know if this error is really a true one or not.
If yes, I can quit using SQL Azure. I would need a SQL Server and not a partial SQL Server :-)
    Thanks and best regards
    Frank

    Hi,
    Here are my suggestions:
    1. Use partially qualified queries, because:
    a. from a security standpoint, you'd want to limit your login's access across the server instance
    b. in order to achieve a even better, you should specify your database as the Initial Catalog directly in the SQL Connection.
If you take into account these practices, SQL Database doesn't come with any limitation from that point of view.
However, in regard to 'With SQL Management Studio, the same query works', this is actually only partially true because if you run that query agains ADO.NET, you'll actually end up in switching databases along the query which is obviously not permitted in
SQL Database since you're running in a hosted black-box version of SQL you're not managing. It's just like running the USE <dbname> command which obviously doesn't work.
