Maintenance plan for Mirror database

HI All
How do we implement Maintenance plan for high safety Database mirroring?
We have Server A (Principal)and server B (Mirror) and we created maintenance plan on principal server and this maintenance plan have 3 sub plans plan full backup  schedule daily plan 2 log backup every 10 minutes and plan 3 purge the full backup files
,log backup files and log history if older then 2 weeks . All jobs are running fine in principal sever .but how to run theses after fail over by agent?
My client accept maintenance plan,  other wise i will create the jobs with tsql script on both server ,will enable on server where database is principal
Please help it very urgent.
Vanchan

Hi Vanchan,
As described in this
article, when preparing the mirror server to take over the role of principal in the event of a failover, we need to copy maintenance plans from the principal server to the mirror server.
About how to copy maintenance plans from one Server to other, please follow the steps in the blog below.

  • Maintenance plan for backup executes endlessly.

    Hi All,
I have a maintenance plan for a full back which is scheduled to run once every night. It has been running quite peacefully with out any error and usually takes 50min average. But Now(the last three days), it starts executing but never completes. I tried
to run sp_who2 and saw a block when the execution reaches at a specific database. I stopped the execution, killed the spid on the 'Blk By' and then restarted the execution but same problem show up again. Whats going on? Any ideas?
    Thanks.

-So as you told me i ran the sp_readerrorlog and found the below message. Looks like a virtual device kind of a things . . . .
    2014-04-03 09:20:24.280 spid148      BackupVirtualDeviceFile::RequestDurableMedia: Flush failure on backup device '(local)_AAA_DEV_SQL_Database-SQL_Database-1396486800084#11-3006-SQL'.
Operating system error 995(The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an applicat.
And last night i tried to change the schedule at which the job is running and it worked well for today
but i think its not going to be like this today or on the weekends. So i couldn't see any block.
    Thanks.
    Tina
VIRTUAL_DEVICE generally means here that anything which is not local or shared disk.Like thrid taking party tool backup on tape or VSS backups  which kind of take snapshot backup. If youo say that no Third party toll is involved and you dont want any
VSS backups please disable SQL Server VSS writer service. This will stop the VSS backups.Or as you suggested ,if you want VS backups ,you can schedule your backup at different time.
    >>And last night i tried to change the schedule at which the job is running and it worked well for today
I guess I am correct about VSS backups interfereing your regular backup.
PS: Since you killed the thread you got message like below
BackupVirtualDeviceFile::RequestDurableMedia: Flush failure on backup device '(local)_AAA_DEV_SQL_Database-SQL_Database-1396486800084#11-3006-SQL'. Operating system error 995(The I/O operation has been
aborted because of either a thread exit or an applicat.

  • Maintenance plans for Backward counter

Is it possible for having a preventive maintenance plan for a measurement point that counts backwards?
Your inputs on this will be appreciated!

    Help !
I am looking for help with Counters and Timers and using them with a Maintenance Plan. We have about 10 count down timers mounted in one of our facilities. These timers are tied to the machine and measures the time until a mini or major PM will occur. These count down timers were previously used with the old CMMS system to assist in the scheduling of maintenance activities. We have recently converted them from the old CMMS to SAP PM but I am struggling with getting the count down timers to work in SAP. These timers are reset at 5000 hrs and as the machine operates, time is removed from the timer. A technician periodically reports these times to the system for scheduling purposes.
I have created the Measurement Point for a Functional Location.
I have identified that it is a counter.
I have it identified that it Counts Backwards.
When I try to assign this measurement point to a Maintenance Plan, I get the error "Only counters that run forwards can be entered"
How can I use the countdown timers to create pre configured (PM) work orders?
    Thanks in advance.

Regular maintenance plan would work. Only thing to remember is that when you create log backup plan, there is a checkbox which says whether it should honor backup preference or not.

    Dear Experts,
When I am trying to create a Maintenance Plan in IP50 , the Equipment is copied to the Plan.
Can anybody help on this issue.

    Thanks PeteA,
It is working now.   We will have to Click the Object Tab and Equipment range should be given in the Selection Parameters to get the List of Service Orders. But still we  are not able to get the Equipment Description in IW73.

  • What is the best backup plan for Archive Databases in Exchange 2013?

    Hi,
We have Exchange 2013 with Hybrid setup with O365.
We have On premise exchange 2013 servers with 3 copies of primary Database & Single Copy of Archival DBs.
Now we have to frame backup policy with Symantec Backup Exec which has to backup our primary & Archival DBs
In 2007 exchange, before migration to 2013, we had policy of DBs - Weekly Full backup & Monthly Full Backup
Please suggest what would be the best possible backup strategy we can follow with 2013 DBs.
That too, especially for Archiving DBs
Our Archiving Policy are - 3 category - Any emails older than 6 month OR 1 Year OR 2 Year should go to Archive mailbox.
Keeping this in mind how to design the backup policy ?
    Manju Gowda

    Hi Manju,
you do not find best practice different from the common backup guidelines, as there is no archive db specific behaviour. Your users may move items to their archive at any time as well as your retention policies may move items that machted the retention policies
at any time. The result is frequently changing content to both, mailbox and archive mailbox databases, so you need to backup both the same way. You also may handle archives together with mailboxes together in the mailbox db
Please keep in mind that backup usually means data availability in case of system failure. So you may consider to do a less frequent backup with your archive db with dependency to the "keep deleted items" (/mailboxes) setting on your mailbox database.
    Example:
    keep deleted items: 30 days
backup of archive db: every 14 days
    restore procedure:
    * restore archive DB content
    * add difference from recover deleted items (or Backup Exec single item recovery) for the missing 14 days.
So it depends more on your process than on a backup principle.

    Martin

  • IF Auto Update Statistics ENABLED in Database Design, Why we need to Update Statistics as a maintenance plan

    Hi Experts,
IF Auto Update Statistics ENABLED in Database Design, Why we need to Update Statistics as a maintenance plan for Daily/weekly??
    Vinai Kumar Gandla

    Hi Vikki,
Many systems rely solely on SQL Server to update statistics automatically(AUTO UPDATE STATISTICS enabled), however, based on my research, large tables, tables with uneven data distributions, tables with ever-increasing keys and tables that have significant
changes in distribution often require manual statistics updates as the following explanation.
1.If a table is very big, then waiting for 20% of rows to change before SQL Server automatically updates the statistics could mean that millions of rows are modified, added or removed before it happens. Depending on the workload patterns and the data,
this could mean the optimizer is choosing a substandard execution plans long before SQL Server reaches the threshold where it invalidates statistics for a table and starts to update them automatically. In such cases, you might consider updating statistics
manually for those tables on a defined schedule (while leaving AUTO UPDATE STATISTICS enabled so that SQL Server continues to maintain statistics for other tables).
2.In cases where you know data distribution in a column is "skewed", it may be necessary to update statistics manually with a full sample, or create a set of filtered statistics in order to generate query plans of good quality. Remember,
however, that sampling with FULLSCAN can be costly for larger tables, and must be done so as not to affect production performance.
3.It is quite common to see an ascending key, such as an IDENTITY or date/time data types, used as the leading column in an index. In such cases, the statistic for the key rarely matches the actual data, unless we update the Statistic manually after
    every insert.
So in the case above, we could perform manual statistics updates by
creating a maintenance plan that will run the UPDATE STATISTICS command, and update statistics on a regular schedule. For more information about the process, please refer to the article:

  • Tcode for checking the Maintenance Plan

    Hello,
I want the transaction code for checking the list of maintenance plan for a particular plant. I went thru tcode IP03, IP16 but could not find the option of plant there..
    Kindly guide..
    Regards,
    Naren

    Naren,
As stated above, there isn't a plant field in the maintenance plan (only maintenance item, hence the reference ot IP17)
However, it is quite common to use the maintenance plan Sort field as a plant field by customising the table settings for each plant.

  • Service products for Maintenance Plan

    Hi All,
Is it possible to Create maintenance plan from a a Service product  - Contract Line item(VA41)? I have come across the Tcode OISF but do not know how to make use of it?
Would appreciate if you could throw some light on this?
    Pranav

    Hello
You have maintained the following data for the service product that you subsequently entered in the outline agreement under Logistics --> Customer Service >Service Agreements>Environment -->Sales and Distribution -->Service Products:
    ·        Plant for maintenance planning
    ·        Work center
    ·        Order type
    ·        Plant of maintenance work center
    ·        Business area
    ·        General maintenance task list (you cannot assign equipment task lists or functional location task lists)
    ·        Task list type
Then-you have created an outline agreement that fulfils the following conditions:
    1)The contract category is Contract.
2)The contract type is Service and Maintenance.
    3) On the tabstrip Sales, you have specified
I)the start and end dates of the contract
II)service product as outline agreement item
4)You have specified the start and end dates for billing in the billing plan under Goto> Item>Billing plan.
When Creating the Maintenance Plan for Above Contracts
1)When creating a maintenance plan, you choose an appropriate maintenance plan category.
Maintenance plan category with reference to an outline agreement, maintenance call object u201Cservice orderu201D
    Enter the following data:
    1)Valid outline agreement

  • Problem with full backup with copy only in maintenance plan sql server 2008

    Hello
I am starter DBA for sql server in general
I have problem related to backup with maintenance plan in sql server 2008 and 2008 r2
I created maintenance plan to take full back up  with copy only option checked, but when I check the back up in backupset table is_copy_only column it shows 0 for databases that I run job for.
I did the same steps on sql server 2012 and I checked backupset table is_copy_only column it shows 1 for databases that I run job for .so it works as it should be
Note: all the servers I mention here are production servers

Copy-only Backup  by using GUI ( SSMS) in SQL Server 2008 but it was not available in  Maintenance Plan "Back
Up Database Task". Now in SQL Server 2012 It is included in "Back Up Database
    Task".
