Make Acrobat default, not Preview

Anyone know how to make Acrobat Reader the default application in opening PDFs? I know I can do it for individual documents by right-clicking and using "Open with." But I can't figure out how to make Acrobat Reader the default for all PDFs.
Preview is pretty clunky compared with Acrobat.

In Get Info, change Open With to something, then back to Acrobat Reader. That gives the option of clicking the button Change All to 'Use this application to open all documents like this'.
Now all PFDs will open in Reader - and you need version 8.1.

  • I want Acrobat Reader, NOT Preview

Since I recently formated my PB and reinstalled OS10.3.9, downloaded pdfs are opening in Preview, not Acrobat Reader. I've set Reader's "Internet" preferences to open pdfs, but Preview still insists on opening downloaded pdfs. I really, really, really want Acrobat Reader, NOT Preview. What do I do?

When you download a pdf file to your desktop, hightlight it and go 'file>get info'. click on 'open with' and change from application 'preview' to application 'Acrobat Reader',then click on the button underneath 'use this application to open all documents like this'. Any problems, post back.

  • Open PDF with acrobat reader not preview

    Hi everyone:
I have been creating cross platform projects for a while now.
I just noticed that opening PDF from director tend to open up in
"preview" not in Acrobat. Is there a way I can tell my Mac project
to open the PDFs in Acrobat, if Acrobat doesnt exist then open them
in "preview." On PC they open in Acrobat (I guess this is due to PC
not having anything that can read PDFs naively.)
By the way, I create the projects on PC, and then test them
    on the Mac.
    thank you,
    Rafael.

Is this how it is supposed to be on Mac? Maybe I am just
asking something that I outta know...(like PDFs only open on
    Preview on Macs?)
    Rafael.

  • When I insert my memory card iPhoto opens. How can I make the default program Preview?

When I insert my memory card from my camera, iPhoto opens. How can I make Preview the default?

    Denny,
Open Image Capture which is located in your Applications Folder.
Connect your device to your computer, then turn the device on.If the device is locked with a passcode, enter it.
Select the device in the Devices list.
Choose Image Capture from the “Connecting this [device] opens” pop-up menu.Click “Show device settings” if you don’t see that pop-up menu.

  • How to make Viewer default (again)?

I upgraded Adobe Reader and every time it opens it asks me doe I want it to be my default viewer for PDFs. I always clicked NO but just recently clicked YES by mistake. Now it opens every time to see PDFs.
I don't really like it, liked Apple Viewer better. How can I make it default again?
    Thank you,
    Zack

I have nearly the same issue: Acrobat always asks if I want it to be my default viewer. After many dozens of times saying "no," I finally accidentally clicked "yes." (It also has a checkbox called "Don't sk this again," but it still asks every time).
Anyway, I also want to use Preview as the default, and I can use the Get Info trick, but there's a rub: Before Acrobat did this, there were certain pdf files that I wanted opened in Acrobat, and not Preview. They had the Acrobat icon, not the preview one. If I do the Get Info trick, I have a feeling that they will be changed to open in Preview instead of Acrobat. So my questions are
    1) Will this actually happen?
    2) Where is the info stored that makes it possible for some pdfs to be opened with one app and other pdfs to be opened with another app?
    3) When I accidentally let Acrobat change the default, is this identical to having chosen Get Info on a pdf file and selecting "Change All..." to Acrobat, or is it just changing some system-wide preference about which viewer should be the default—a preference that, I hope, can be changed back.

  • Reading PDF documents from Web pages, Acrobat vs. Preview

When I encounter Web pages with PDF document links, I'd like to open them using the Adobe Acrobat application, not Preview. I haven't found a way to change the behavior of the Mac OS to permit me to set the default app.
I did find a way to change the default app to open PDF documents on the hard drive (though I can't recall where I found this feature), but it has no effect when I click links in Web pages.
By the way, I'm using Firefox as my default browser, not Safari.
How do I change the behavior? Is there a better support forum than this one?
    Thanks.
    Jerry

    I think you need this Firefox Add-on for handling PDFs in Firefox;
    PDF Download
Allows to choose if you want to view a PDF file inside the browser (as PDF or HTML), if you want to view it outside Firefox with your default or custom PDF reader, or if you want to download it!
I was reminding you how you set files to use certain programs because you said you forgot how.

  • How to make it a default for all received messages to not preview the attachment but instead show the icon? (mac mail.app)

    Hi
I am having trouble with large incoming mail attachments.
When I receive a large attachment (pDf) the useful mail preview feature attempts to show a preview of the attachment.  Unfortunately this is causing a lot of trouble as some PDFs are extremely large and therefore take time to open/preview.   If I right click the attachment and select view as icon, the problem with that specific message ceases as the attachment is no longer previewed.
How can I make it the default for all attachments in received messages to only be shown as a icon and not previewed?

    In Terminal,
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool Yes

  • How do I make Acrobat 9 Pro my default pdf app?

I used to have this set until an upgrade of the OS or ... when I installed Acrobat 9 Pro??
I am still running OS 10.5.8, though will upgrade to SL soon.
Anyway, I can't figure out how to make Acrobat my default instead of Preview when I:
    1) open a pdf file on the web, or
    2) double click on a generic pdf (such as one sent as an email attachment), or
    3) export to Acrobat from Apple's Pages
Any suggestions would be REALLY appreciated!
    Thanks

  • Preview: In a group of PDF files in the same window, going to the next or a previous PDF file displays the bottom of PDF by default, not the top. How do you change this?

Preview: In a group of PDF files in the same window, going to the next or a previous PDF file displays the bottom of PDF page by default, not the top of the PDF page. How do you change this? In Mac OS 10.9 and previous, going to the next or previous PDF file displays the top of the PDF by default. Is there a way to change this back? When I go to the next or previous PDF file, I want to first view the top of the page, not the bottom. This really doesn't make any sense. Any help? Thanks!

  • Make Acrobat the default reader for pdf-files.

Since some time (probably after I installed Mavericks) pdf-files are by default opened
in Preview. To open them in Adobe Acrobat, I can right-click the pdf-file, choose Acrobat,
and indicate that Acrobat should be the default reader for pdf-files.
This works, and after logout and login, it does still work.
But after a reboot, Preview is again the default reader.
Also, if in Finder I right-click a pdf-file, and via Get Info I configure Acrobat
to be the default reader for the specific file and all other pdf-files (by clicking
Change All), this only works for the current session. After a reboot Preview again is the
    default.
How can I make Acrobat Reader the default reader for pdf-files, and make this setting
    permanent?
    Where is this setting saved?
    Regards,
    Kees.

I finally solved this, but I still don't understand how.
To begin with I have 2 hard-drives in my iMac. The OS is on the primary HD, and data are on the secondary drive. My Home directory too is on this secondary HD.
To check whether the location of the Home directory might be the problem, I copied the Home directory to the primary HD, changed the path in my profile, and did a reboot.
The next step was to configure Adobe Acrobat as the default reader for pdf-files. To my surprise,  after rebooting, Acrobat still was the default reader for pdf-files.
So it looks as if this problem has something to do with the location of the Home directory.
The original Home directory was still present on the secondary  HD,  So the next step was to change in my profile the path to the Home directory again (pointing again to the original Home directory on the second HD), do a reboot and delete the copy of the Home directory on the primary HD.
So now the situation was back to as it was before: the Home directory on the second HD.
To my surprise now Acrobat still was the default reader for pdf-files.
And I could also change the default reader to Preview, and back to Acrobat, and this setting was saved across reboots.
I'm curious to what solved this problem, and where the setting of the default pdf-reader, or more general, the default application for file types, is stored.
So I hope that someone who reads this, can shed some light on this.

  • How Can I Make Acrobat Not Resize Images?

I am trying to turn around 80 images into the pages of a PDF file. The pictures are saved as JPEGs and have the exact dimensions I want them to have as pages of a PDF. When I turn them into a PDF in Acrobat Pro 9 they get resized so when viewed at 100% the text looks like crap. I want to know how I can make Acrobat not mess with the dimensions of my pictures when turning them into a PDF. I make the PDF by clicking the Create button and selecting Merge Files into a Single PDF... . I then drag and drop the pictures into the window and click Combine Files. I have tried all three of the File Size settings and all of them turn out wrong. How can I make this expensive program work the way I want it to by doing htis simple thing right?
I have attached two files, the first of one of the images that will make a page viewed in windows picture and fax viewer at the original size. The second is a screen shot of the messed up PDF with blurry text, viewed at 100%. I want the text in the second picture to look just like the text in the first.

I am not trying to justify Adobe's choice, just an explanation of what may have happened. When one asks for 100%, there is a question of by pixel, by inches (cm), or by size on the screen. These are interpretations and the fact that MS and Adobe interpret them differently is not surprising. However, I think that what you are seeing is a result of the pixel display issues on the screen and with proper sizing, they should appear the same (at least I think). In Acrobat, there is also a smoothing feature under the display preferences that may be an issue and is related to how it extrapolates for the pixels.

  • Set InDesign -- by default -- not to make hyperlinks Shared Destinations?

I have a newsletter template in ID CS4 based on a template with some standing hyperlinks to my organization's web pages.
Recently, when I created a new file based on the template, my computer started bogging down looking NOT for the web page in the hyperlink, but in the copy of the InDesign file that created it. Checked the properties in Hyperlink Options, and instead of URL, the links went to a Shared Destination (a copy of the document on a shared drive, not an Internet server).  Changed the properties to link them to URLs instead, but when I opened the document again, they went back to Shared Destinations. How can I set InDesign -- by default -- not to hook hyperlinks up to Shared Destinations?  (My agency was ready to upgrade me to CS6 until it became available in the Cloud only).

Note: If a URL hyperlink isn’t working in the exported PDF, there may be a problem with the hyperlink being a “Shared Destination.” Double-click the hyperlink in the Hyperlinks panel, choose URL from the Link To menu, deselect Shared Hyperlink Destination, and click OK
But I wan to make NOT sharing hyperlinks the default

Given the bug with shared hyperlinks (see https://forums.adobe.com/message/6408902#6408902), I too would like to turn off shared hyperlink destination as the default. Anyone found a way to do this?
