Make server app act as the rmiregistry

Hello.
Reading the RMI tutorial the only way for a client to get it's first remote refrence is for the server to bind it to the rmiregistry and the client would get it from there.
My question, is there any way possible to make the server act as the rmiregistry so that the client can directly get the remote object reference?
thx

  • Are you aware that people make thrash apps beginning with the AAA letter just to be the first app you see in AppStore, so its harder to find the true apps with all that thrash?

Are you aware that people make thrash apps beginning with the AA letter so they can be found before the other good apps? Its now hard to properly scroll the new app with all the thrash.

Am I aware? Yes. But I am just another Apple user and developer. Is Apple aware? Does Apple care? You need to tell Apple that you are aware and you care by sending feedback: https://www.apple.com/feedback/
Of course, the fact that Apple doesn't even have a feedback category for the App Store might be some indication of how much they care.

  • How do I make an app running in the background appear in the dock?

I've tried searching the rest of the web, but all I can find is how to pin an app to the dock. I already know how to do that.
What I want to do is make an app that doesn't appear even when it's running (my specific case is SugarSync) appear as an icon in the dock. I know I can get to it by either clicking or right-clicking on the mini icon on the right side of the menu bar, but I want to be able to switch to it using the dock or open-apple+tab, like I can with everything else.

It depends on the data path from the tower you're using, through NATs and many routers, all the way back to the server. Which depends on your current location and sheer luck.
For some users, the data path stays alive for 30-45 minutes at a time... thus the phone only has to ping the server that often for push to work. Their push doesn't use much battery.
Other users have the misfortune of being connected via pathways that only keep a connection alive for 5-10 minutes. Their iPhones eat battery like crazy, and they usually end up switching to a 15-30 minute timed fetch instead.

  • Where are the scripts that make Flex apps work with the JAWS screen reader?

    From the adobe website:
To use the JAWS screen reader with a Flex application, users must download scripts from the Adobe accessibility website before invoking a Flex application. Screen readers work best when in Forms mode, which lets users interact directly with the Flex application. These scripts let users switch between Virtual Cursor mode and Forms mode by using the Enter key from almost anywhere within a Flex application. If necessary, users can exit Forms mode by using the standard JAWS keystrokes.
Users can download these scripts, and the installation instructions, from the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/go/flex_accessibility."
The link is broken and the marvellously dense chat support person said that Adobe doesn't support Flash Builder.
    Where are these scripts located?

where can I get the DMS? ( data mover scripts, am I right?)
    wait for your response..
regard.I'm afraid, I don't follow you very well. Anyway, if you have a db, with a running listener, you should be able to connect from any client over your local network (even through different OS). In that case, you'll need a client software (i.e. Oracle client runtime installation). Regarding the DMS, you should be able to find it onto the client after Peopletools/Peoplesoft application installation.

    Hi j.v.
Have you tried the Linksys forums? I think you may get more help from a network type forum that uses the WAP54G than the Apple forums.

  • Make T440s trackpad act like the older one? - disable touch but keep buttons?

Is there a way to disable the "touch" portion of the new T440s trackpad - while keeping the "button" functionality?  I'm a big fan of the trackpoint plus the two discrete buttons (Like my old T420/430s had), and if there is some way to disable everything EXCEPT the "soft buttons" on the new T440s... then I can get very very close to the old behavior... any thoughts on whether this is possible?

    Yes, this is possible:
    - Disable the TrackPad in BIOS
    - Enable "Classical TrackPoint only Mode" in the driver

  • Is there any way to get the server app other that through the app store. We do not have our system conneted to a network. I typical downloaded items on a non-apple system.

is there any way to get the server app other than through the app store. The system that I need it on are not connected to the internet.
We run a closed-loop network of apple systems and I tipically downloaded updates on a non-apple system that was on the internet.
    Any ideas?

I did buy the server app, went to the app store to download it. This system I'm using for downloads is Snow Leopard 10.6.8, it shows that I can download it but only as an Install which says I need 10.8. I can't seem to find a way for it to just download as a package or .dmg file so that I can copy it to DVD/CD or flash drive.

  • Does the server app need to stay open?

Probably a dumb question, but do I need to keep the Server.app running at all times?
Our server is a Mac Mini that doubles as a workstation.  Do I only need the Server app to set up/ start/ manage services, or does it need to be open all the time?

Server.app is "just" the GUI interface to the services.  You can start or stop Server.app as and when needed.  The services themselves won't be effected.

  • Accessing a server via the Server app from outside a router firewall

So I'm trying to access my server using the Server app on a MacBook Pro outside my server network.  I can access it just fine when my client is inside the server network, but I cannot connect when outside the server network.
    I've done the following troubleshooting:
    - I've turned off the server Firewall option available in the server's Server Admin tool
    - I've set up port forwarding on my router
    - I've opened up port 311 on the router
    - I've placed the server outside the router DMZ zone and the Server app connects just fine
    - I've checked the box "Allow remote administration using Server" in the server's Server app Settings tab
    - With the router configured correctly, the Server app cannot access the server
There's something in the router that is blocking access by the Server app.  Apple Enterprise support says they are sure there is no other port to open up.  Is there something else I should be doing to access the server from outside the router using a client Server app?
    TIA
ps - this worked fine when I just had the server hanging directly off a cable modem.

I and I suspect a lot of other admins would argue you should not be making your server accessible via Server.app remotely due to security concerns. Saying that, I and again I suspect a lot of other admins also want/need to be able to remotely administer servers. There is a better way however to achieve this.
You should be running a VPN server, perhaps using your same Mac server. You should leave the firewall blocking access directly for Server.app but if your remote Mac first connects via the VPN it will then be connected securely to your internal network and then be able to use Server.app

  • Management Tool Server.app keeps complaining

    Hello erverybody,
    who else has seen this:
this is the result after a complete new installation! This is just unbelieveable! Hourly the processor jumps suddenly, but what makes me really mad is this sad sad excuse of an Management Tool. Even after a new installation of the server and using the latest Server.app to manage the OS X Server the one window keeps poping up basically saying that there were errors (YES plural!) - what?! No matter if I start the tool on the server itself or if it's executed from my MBP. I stuffed the Macmini from 2011 with as much RAM as possible (16GB). It's equiped with an i7 CPU - that should handle the tasks with ease!? What is wrong here?

    Hello Kevin,
as much as I understand your argument, since this is the recommended art-form anyway, as much I have to reject it, since this was a start from scratch, on a supportet hardware-plattform, too! On a completely fresh installation without any legacy whatsoever, your really believe that there's a necessity to look at the console tons of logs reporting an error?! This is redicilous - I am sorry.

  • Hosting an ecommerce website with iMac and Mac server app

Would it be possible to run an effective small business website which includes an online store using my iMac (or Mac mini), a WYSIWYG editor, my current ISP, plus, do effective SEO, configure and employ other revenue streams in addition to my own website shopping cart feature such as google shopping and implement other revenue streams on my website like ad-sense?
I need to set-up an ecommerce site for my small business which I just bought a domain for.  What I'm trying to find out is if it is better to use a web host, or, if I could use my iMac with the Apple server app (or buy the mini server) and host it myself.  I don't have any programming language skills, but, I believe I am capable of doing this myself once I begin to comprehend and practice the neccasary processes to make all of this happen.

Getting the easy question out of the way: yes, an iMac running Server.app and add-on eCommerce software can do this.
Now for the tougher question: should you?  You're signing on for maintaining and updating and troubleshooting and potentially site remediation and decontamination after issues or security attacks.  You are also signing up for PCI compliance, if you're not working with another entity for credit-card processing.  (Anything with credit card data is a target for attacks; there's money involved.)
There're the more germane aspects, too: ensuring your (static IP) network links have bandwidth, availability and latency (eg: ISP bandwidth, pingdom or other uptime checks, et al), and maintaining your servers against crashes and corruptions and hardware failures (eg: RAID, possibly redundant systems); maintaining site access against the usual sorts of outages.  Software updates for OS X and for the ecommerce software and whatever other dependencies are involved, too.  Regular backups are most definitely required.
Or alternatively: getting somebody to maintain this stuff for you, either hosted, or dedicated to and on your server(s) and your network links, or on your own co-lo servers.
All this in addition to running your business, and writing (good, frequently updated) content that'll draw in the search engine ranking and/or buying search keywords or whatever you're doing for advertising that'll draw in potential customers, and dealing with the finances and the rest.
Servers are somewhat different from clients, in terms of system management, too.  Servers involve more than one user when they're out, and so you're not rebooting or reconfiguring them nearly as often as client systems can be modified.  Servers can also tend to chew up bandwidth, if you're successful.
Key to running a business is figuring out what you don't need to do (either at all, or that you can outsource or host or whatever, or hire out for, etc), so that you can focus on what you do need to do to make the business successful...  If you're just getting going and not into system administration and programming payment gateways and the rest of running a server, I'd suggest hosting the ecommerce stuff, at least to start with.  Unless you want to learn how to run an ecommerce site, that is...

  • Close Mac Server App still run?

Hello, if I close my Mac Server application (I have a mac mini) will my websites still run? Or does the app HAVE to be open?

You do not have to have Server.app running all the time. Your websites and all the other services will keep running in the background.
In fact it is firstly best not to leave Server.app running all the time because it will after a period often get confused about the status of the services, and secondly this can be a security risk as it makes it available to anyone else. It is also for the same reason not necessary or desirable to even have a user logged in on the server. The services do not need this.

  • Server 4: Cannot connect to remote server: "lost contact with the AuthService"

Attempting to upgrade to Server 4; have Server 4 app on my local Mac to administer a remote Mac mini running Server 4. Server app 4 on the mini connects to itself; however, I cannot user Server app 4 on my local Mac to connect remotely to the mini. Have verified the machine name, user, and password are all correct (they haven't changed and worked fine under Server 3.2.2). Console on the local machine shows the following error:

Export the com.apple.servermgrd certificate from your server. Import it on your local computer and ensure that it is set to Always Trust. Ensure that you also follow the directions from the article linked below.

  • How to get my Drobo FS to mount in Mountain Lion Server.app

    Hello Everyone,
Thanks in advance for the help. I am struggling with getting my drobo fs connected to my AE to show up in the server.app. I want to use my drobo fs as a mass storage device for the server since the server has a small hard drive. But I cannot seem to figure out how to get it to show up when I try to start the time machine service or include a folder on the drobo in the file sharing service. Does the server.app recognize or see network drives? The drobo connects as a server to the ML server, do I need to install drobo dashboard to get the server to see it as something else? I tried to create a share with the time machine option to see if it would mount as a local drive but it only mounts as a local. I think I'm on the right track, server.app only sees local drives but is there a way to get it to see my network drobo fs? Also, can I connect the drobo to the server (forgive me if this seems confusing), my mac mini via a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter? Would a direct connect change the way the mini mounts the drobo thus enabiling server.app to see the drive as local?
    Thanks again for the help....
Also, when the drobo is connected to the AE it is assigned an ip 10.0.1.2, I connected it to my mac mini and the mac mini to my AE via wifi and the server.app had a fit because the ip addresses changed. I was unable to get the drobo to mount. I could reset the drobo as I do not have that much information on it. I could backup the drobo and restart anew which, I think, would allow the mac mini to create an ip for the drobo.

I guess in another forum that I posted this the question is not clear.
I want the drobo which is basically a NAS to show up when I try to implement the time machine service in the server.app. I have the drobo mounted and all is working fine but when I try to implement time machine in server it only shows me my internal (local) drive and not the drobo. I am wondering if it is due to the drobo connecting to the mac as a server itself (ip address assigned). Would an adapter help me with this? Such as a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter or ethernet to USB 3.0? would that create another ethernet connection on the mac or could I get the mac to see that connection as it is a USB or thunderbolt connected drive?
