Make Table Cells Transparents in InDesign CC 2014?? HELP!

Hi!
I used to be able to make the fill on my table cells different transparencies in indesign. I could make it so the background would lightly show through, and the text would still be legible. I also was able to make the table border be transparent so the background would totally shine through. I can't do this anymore with the new 2014 release.
Does anyone know how to fix this??? Thanks!!!

Hello ABAPers,
I have a requirement to make the cell in the table of a Web Dynpro component read-only. There are 4 fields in the Table of a view which is mapped to the Context attribute, i.e. function, Number, Description etc. When the value of the Field 'Function' is
'0000016', I have to make the Number field as READ-ONLY(non-editable).
As suggested in SDN forums, I have created the sub-node to the main node in Context and added an attribute 'READ_ONLY'. I have made the cardinality as 1:1. I have also created the Supply Function Method(ZREADONLY) for sub-node that I have created and also set the context binding to the Read only property of the field 'Number' in the View Layout.
PFB the coding I have done in supply function method for setting the read-only attribute for the number field, but it is not working. Could anyone let me know what is the change I have to make this work?

Hi,
the solution is quite simple.
Bind the property reaonly in the layout editor to the property readonly of the context-attribute.
Therfore you have to click at the binding button of the celleditor of the property read-only.
Then you select the radiobutton in front of Bind to the property of the selected Attribute and choose Property R.
In you coding you have to fo the following in case you do that after binding the itab to the context:
node->bind_table( .... ).
data lt_elements type wdr_context_element_set.
lt_elements = node->get_elements( ).
LOOP at lt_elements into element.
element->get_attribute(
      exporting
        name = 'PARTNERFCT'
      importing
        value = lv_partnerfct

Of corse you have to modify the coding and i didn´t checked the syntax, baut this should help.

How to make table cell drop down menu from an existing range in cell

Is this possible?? Checked all over the web & coming up empty. Trying to avoid re-typing in contents from previously created tables in the cell format pop-up menu. Please help.

I don't think there is an easy way to do this unless Yvan comes up with a script for you.
One option is to select the range of cells and copy/paste to TextEdit (yes, surprisingly it'll take a range of cells) then from TextEdit you can copy/paste each cell's contents one at a time to the popup menu list. Still a pain but it might be easier than other methods. The workflow I found quickest was to position TextEdit near the Inspector pane (which is open to the Cell inspector with your popup in it) and have the top of the Numbers window nearby. Double click on one cell's contents in TextEdit then Cmd-C to copy, click on the Numbers window up in the toolbar to make Numbers active again without selecting a different cell, then put the contents in the inspector (hit + then paste with Cmd-V). Repeat.

How to make table cells mandatory when visible

I have a form with two hidden subforms. Each subform contains a table with fields that need to be mandatory when visible.
The subforms are hidden or revealed based on a selection from a drop-down list.
I found the below script which works great for making a text field mandatory when visible, but, how do you apply this to cells in a table?
I can't figure it out.

Here is the table structure. Rows 1 through 25 are all the same. Each row has two cells with Radio Buttons named "AsFound" and "AsLeft." Both need to be mandatory when visible. If you need more information, let me know.

I have a table whose construction and styling is underway; it is very hit or miss to select all or part of that table. Can anyone suggest a trick to make table cel selection more certain?

If on windows, use the "esc" button to select the cell or the text. If you select a cell, use the arrow keys to select more cells. Whole table, select one cell then "Ctrl A" to select all the table. The fat arrow is the same as the one in Word, it's sometimes driving me crazy too.

How to make an index in InDesign CC 2014.1 using a topics list?

Hi all,
I have read the long help document on how to make an index in InDesign CC 2014.1 using a topics list, and still can't work out what to do.
I have done a 548 page book, using a document for each chapter, and a book file to put them all together in the right order.
I now need to make an index at the back, as the author has many quotes throughout the book at the start of each chapter and section.
I have a list of those people quoted and want to upload this list and get the index feature in InDesign to find all instances of the name occurring in the entire book.
After reading the help document I still cannot work out how to do this.
My questions are:
1. Do you have to use an InDesign document as a source for the list of topics? If so, should the document be added to the book file or outside it?
It seems a bit recursive to have the list of topics in an ID document that is in the book file.
2. Once you have uploaded the topics into the Index feature, how do you get it to look for all instances of that 'topic' througout the entire book? I can't figure that out from the help documents. What do I select? Do I do it from the Index panel? Do I highlight the text in the source document? Not sure how to do this...
3. I need the names to list surname first of the quoted authors in the index. This command seems to be different between various editions of ID. For ID CC 2014.1 is it ctrl+alt+shift+]
4. To make the surname show first, what do I highlight? The topic? and then do ctrl+alt+shift+] and select find all as well? Or do I have to just go through the text and manually do this and ditch the idea of uploading topics first?
I am confused as you can see and any help with this is appreciated.

Sorry 007, I really thought you were posting a trick question as on the OCP tests.
Anyway, as Justin mentioned, if you have an index on ename, it may be used when doing a comparison predicate statement with the ename value.
What it depends on are several other things: stats, how many rows in the table, use of an index hint, etc.
Rather than questioning the group on this, why not just turn on autotrace and run the query for the different scenarios.
The output will show you if it used the index, number of rows returned, blocks read, etc.

InDesign CC 2014 is very very slow when working with a table. Every 1/2 - 1 hour it nearly falls back, impossible to work with. While this project must be finshed quite soon..
What the hell is the matter with this Creative Cloud. I havea very fast iMac form 2014. I closed all other programmes, even cannot listen to music now. More people with this problem??

@Martien – How complex is your table?
How many cells? Merged ones as well?
Complex formatting of texts inside the cells?
Complex formatting rules of table rows and/or columns?
Many images inserted?
If yes, and the table is running through many text frames of many pages, I fear, you can do nothing against slowness.
Nothing but: Greek text, not showing the page contents in the Pages Panel, in short: anything you can do to get better performance in redrawing of the screen.
If you have the chance to break up one big table in several parts, do that and edit its parts one after another isolated. Pehaps in different documents.
Then merge the parts in one table, if you want to flow it from page to page.

As a student, you might be able to get Office for Mac from the college bookstore at a substantial discount. Otherwise, I think your best option for documents that need to be shared with Office users is to get one of the free Office clones such as LibreOffice.

InDesign CS6 Font doesn't work in table cells

Hi all!
I'm working in InDesign CS6 on Mac OS 10.6 Leopard. I have character and paragraph styles defined using a certain font, and they work just fine except when using them in table cells. I have the character style nested in the paragraph style, which is then used in the cell style. But it doesn't work. It inherits everything correctly except for the font. If I select the text, the font menu tells me it is the correct font, but it displays in a different font. I've tried exporting to IDML and resaving, but that didn't work. I'm stumped

Indeed it should, and I see why using a formatted table would cause conflicts, but I am importing it as an unformatted table already. Built all styles in InDesign first, then imported as unformatted table. A few times it did work as expected, but most of the time it steadfastly refused to apply the correct font.
But in any case, that wasn't my only issue with the tables. My understanding of importing Excel spreadsheets is that applied table and cell styles will be maintained when the linked file is updated, but local formatting/overrides will be wiped out, which is why I was trying to get the styles working in the first place. However, after testing, I found that even when I didn't use local formatting/overrides, updating the linked file still broke my InDesign layout.
In my test, the only thing I did to the imported (unformatted) table was to apply the table/cell styles and adjust column width (which is unavoidable as far as I know - didn't see anywhere I could set column width as part of a style). But even then an update to the linked file removed all the styles and column widths I had set (and was also highly annoying as it gave me a separate error message about the formatting loss for each and every instance of the spreadsheet).
Could be a fluke, or could be I'm missing something, but for whatever reason, I just couldn't get it to work

Sure, but without using Merge Cells (why not?) you'll have to cheat a bit.
You can place a single cell table in a cell -- see image -- because, famously, table cells may run outside any border of its parent (even text frames).
You can also put your text into a new frame of its own and cut-and-paste that into a cell (on afterthought, that might be a bit easier).
