Making blank templates into my main Blog page (iWeb 1.1)

How do I make a blank template into the welcome page where all the blog entries will show up.
See I like the gazette template but I don't like the two collums on the blog page. I just want the one column on the page (I can delete the itims in one colum but it will still have that ugly stripe on the bakground). Well I can copy the things I want unto the blank template but how do I make that my welcome page so that when I make blog entries it will show up on that blank page?

Sorry I think I am confusing everybody. And not having all the names right etc. it is very confusing explaining what happens.
When you select Blog from a template. THat is what you will see when you visit somebodies site (if that is the only thing on there). We will call that the homepage. Well the Blog that I select (Gazette) has 3 colums. I only want 2. I don't want the colum all the way on the right side. I can delete all those entrie but it leaves a line there (that is the way that template works). But all my entries will show up with that line going through it.
Now I thought let's get the blank template and copy everything I need from the Blog template unto the blank template. It looks awesome. Except now I can't put blog entries into that blank template because it will make those entry in my blog template.
My question was if there is an easy way to make that blank template which looks like the blog template (with one less colum) my homepage which will include the new entries that I will make. Like somhow convert it to a blog template so it will have the arrow on the side which you can click and it will show you the entries and the archive.
But I think that link will work. I will get a blog template. Clean it and make it blank. And copy the content from the gazette template unto the clean blank blog template (that will include the blog entries). That is what I want.
So yes I think your link is the solution to my problem.

  • Photos in text of blog entry do not port to main blog page

    I have posted before about the photos from my entry page disappearing when ported to my main blog page. I have yet to find a solution so I'm asking for help again.
    I'm am trapped using iWeb 1.1 until I find a solution. I use the Modern Template with modifications. Usually I delete the snowboarding surfer placeholder. Please note I'm not concerned that this photo doesn't port. I don't want it to. I do however need the photos that I have embedded via text wrap within my blog entry to port to the main blog page. They do not.
    I have tried keeping the snowboarder place holder and redoing entries with wrapped text, but my additional photos are still missing. I have checked the box in iWeb 2 that says show photos. My layouts conveted to iWeb 2 look perfect on the entry's page, and horrible with missing photos on the summary page.
    This problem is beyond frustrating. My blog can be seen here, however it is still the iWeb 1.1 format.

    As you can see, almost all my entries have numerous photos. I want them to display on the main blog page.
    Am I missing something very basic? I have seen others with this same question but no one seems to have had any luck resolving this problem.
    Thanks,

    And that's the way it should be.

  • Changed theme on main blog page, lost all entries

    I am updating the site visually and was attempting to change the theme as I had done with other pages, but nothing was happening. Fortunately, I had done a save before going starting on this page. So, I noted that I had NO entries on my blog, so I reverted to saved version. My problem remains, I have a blank entry page. The main blog page is ok and shows my entries and the archive option, but when I try to actually go to an entry or make a new entry, nothing happens or IWeb will crash. Any suggestions appreciated. I can go back to last night's backup, but I will lose all my other page changes I worked on this morning which would be a bummer!

    Problems with iWeb's blog are a recurring theme on these forums. An alternative to iWeb's blog is to hyperlink from your iWeb site to a free Posterous blog, perhaps via their Posterous Blog Widget — see here.
    Or there's WordPress:

  • My main blog page can't find its entry pages

    When I make iWeb blog entry pages, the main blog page can't find them. It says "Error. The file cannot be found." (even if I just use the placeholder "Blue bird day" page without changing it!) I'm dragging my image onto the placeholder image on the (Modern) Blog entry page but the main Blog pag can't find it or even the placeholder image on an unmodified new blog entry page. I am publishing to a file and ftp-ing it up to my ISP but I get the "file cannot be found" message even on my own hard drive before uploading. What's wrong?
    The blog page of my site is:
    http://www.christopherrauschenberg.com/Site/Blog/Blog.html
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Well, not sure of a complete solution for you, but I have found a specific problem.
    From the main blog page. . . the link it gives for New York is
    http://www.christopherrauschenberg.com/Site/Blog/429B84A8-BD4B-4B30-8A66-017811D F742E.html
    However, in checking the directory, looks like that is labeled instead as
    http://www.christopherrauschenberg.com/Site/Blog/429B84A8-BD4B-4B30-_124C76.html
    That would explain why it couldn't be found.
    A little further checking or your root directory shows similar mismatches between various page index files and the folders containing data.
    Have you published and uploaded portions at a time? Is ossible after changes we made that all changes were not published.
    It might be best to clean out the FTP folder, republish your whole site from iWeb to a folder on your computer and re-FTP it to your site (making sure to enter correct url of your site on the publish screen as well).
    (if you think I helped in any way, I'd appreciate it if you could mark my reply as either "solved" or "helpful" using the little buttons in the title bar of the reply. Manythanx! )
    Good luck!

  • Maximum Number of Blog Entries on the Main Blog Page

    I would like to increase the number of Blog entries on my Main Blog page beyond the limit of 50 allowed through the Inspector Panel in iWeb 09. Does anyone know a work-around to this limitation?
    Thanks, -JAS

    Try creating a new blog page that looks identical to the current blog you have. Then once you start a new blog on the new blog template you just created, simply make a button or text link to your other blog. If I'm not mistaken you can create as many blog templates as you wish.
    Please let me know if I'm wrong.

  • Edge Animate file working on main blog page but not on the individual blog post in BC

    I recently uploaded an edge animate file to my blog which is host on Business Catalyst (BC). The edge file works on the main blog page but not on the individual blog post. How can I solve this problem?
    I did the following steps:
    I added the required Adobe Edge scripts on my main blog template.
    Create folder on the server called "edge_includes" and uploaded the 'edge.5.0.0.min' file.
    Create folder on the server called "js" and uploaded the 'jquery-1.7.1.min' file.
    Copy and pasted the div to the part of the blog post I wanted the file to appear (<div id="Stage" class="EDGE-13973370"></div>).
    Uploaded the name of the js file to the root called 'World of Code_edge.'
    Uploaded the images to the existing folder called 'images.'

    I'm still unable to figure out the problem.
    Here is the link to the blog: http://goo.gl/sPW62j (the post titled "Basic Computer Science is a Fundamental Skill in the 21st Century Society").
    Here is the link to the individual post: http://goo.gl/jTSgZH
    Also, I get mixed results on the main blog page. Sometimes the image (Edge Animate file) on the main page shows and other times it does not. However, the image never shows on the individual blog post.

  • My iWeb's main blog page has photos of entries all mixed up

    My site is egsilberman.com and all but the main blog page is functioning.  The index.html looks perfect, the page listing all the blog pages using the index.html in the browser looks as it should.
    But after uploading the site to my FTP - using iWeb SEO Tool - the main landing page of the blog has all the photos, except the most recent entry, mixed up.  The blog entries are in order, listed according to date, but the photos associated with the entries - the key photos shown on the main blog page - are all goofed up: randomly placed throughout the entries.
    Oddly, all the blog pages are functioning fine.  It's just the main blog landing photos that're off.
    On the iWeb side I've reloaded everything from scratch...trashed caches, plists, etc, but it doesn't seem to be the problem.  Again, the index.html site and blog (main page) are all in order. I'm not an expert by any means, so the change in the blog is confounding me.  It was working fine until earlier this week.
    Is it the SEO uploader?  My FTP/host?  Something I could do to help?  I do not know what to do.  Any advice or direction would be appreciated.
    Thanks for considering this question.
    Evan

    Roddy, thank you for many things.
    Firstly, for your clear direction in encouraging me to upload my site AFTER SEO'ing it using a dedicated FTP. I used Cyberduck.  Then, following the line of thinking that the index.html needed to be uploaded as well, I did that.  Simple as it sounds it took a bit of courage on my part.
    This got my blog summary page photos back in line with their individual entries.
    Bigger still was seeing that the index.html file I uploaded made a /Site/ reference to the "Site" folder that's local on my desktop but not present in my server's folder.  And seeing this in the browser address bar, I altered the text of the index.html by eliminating the /Site.  Cyberduck offered ways to do this.  I pushed save.
    Cedric at http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWeb_Folder_FTP.html has a helpful step by step on using FTP and Cyberduck.  I followed his instruction as I went.
    As tiny as this is to those of you who know the workings of your sites, it, for me, is like looking under the hood of a car and being ABLE to fix it. Not something I normally do.  Maybe it'll break down in a mile.  But for now it's fixed, and humming along.
    I'm looking now toward getting an optimization app.  If I'm correct, and I follow your publishing workflow path, Roddy, http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Search-Engine-Optimization/Website-Publishing-Wo rkflow.html, I will, after optimizing, then upload again to my server - using the post-optimized folder as the final source of feeding the server.  Then you list other steps - uploading new sitemaps to all the major search engines - I purchase Rage's Sitemap Automater - will use that for that.
    There is a methodical flow to all this, and I will learn it and implement it.  Leaving MobileMe and moving to FTP and FTP practices was a leap.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Accidentel erase and fix of main blog page

    2 things, I accidently erased the "Go to archive" link from my main blog page and I can't get it back, also on the main blog page it doesn't show all my entries only a few but if I look at the Archive or the entries page they are all there. Any Suggestions?

    There are a few steps you need to go through to make this all work. There also may be a better solution.
    1) DNS: You need to have 10.5 Server running DNS.
    a) Under the Zones Tab: You must have a ZONE setup for your domain name... this must be fully qualified (ie. mydomain.com. - the trailing period is important).
    b) You must have MACHINE records setup for both of your intended subdomains (ie. kids, parents). You'll want the IP address associated with each of these to match the public IP address that your domain host is pointing at.
    c) Don't forget to SAVE (Restarting the service wouldn't hurt either).
    2) Web: In the Sites pane you need two entries (one for each subdomain... a third if you would like to use the www.mydomain.com).
    a) Under the "General" Tab: Each entry should be set to port 80 with IP Address set to "any". You can specify unique Web Folders at this stage, though you shouldn't have to if you're using the default Wiki/Blog service.
    b) Under the Aliases Tab: Be sure that none of the Sites entries include "*" as an Web Server Alias. This will cause all traffic to be directed at that entry. Add the full subdomain address under Web Server Alias for each entry (ie. kids.mydomain.com).
    c) Under the Aliases Tab: Add a rule to the URL Aliases and Redirects. Type: RedirectMatch Pattern: ^/$ Path: /groups/kids/ (or whatever the path to the kid's group is). Now any request for kids.mydomain.com/ will be rewritten kids.mydomain.com/groups/kids/ The RedirectMatch rule wouldn't be necessary if you later decide to abandon Apple's Wiki/Blog - you can simply change the Web Folder setting to point to whatever files you'd like to serve.
    d) Be sure to click SAVE (Again, restarting the service wouldn't hurt either).

  • Font goes gray on main blog page...

    My entries become a monotone color on the main blog page. Underlined font, doesn't get displayed as underlined on the main page. Anyone know how to fix this? Ideally I just want people to be able to read my blog on the main page without having to click "read more"--so I display the whole article length on the main page. Any tips on this and other subjects related to displaying your whole blog on the main page would help.

    Really a bit lost now.
    You've got me with the length slider, please tell me where I'm supposed to be looking, this would be helpful to me. But the reason I am a little lost is that you said you want the whole entry in your main blog page and complaining because you couldn't do it, now you say you can.
    Also, I don't doubt you have seen websites with non linked text underlined, but that doesn't mean it is proper protocol.

  • Posting mp3 file on blog page (iweb)

    Hello,
    Hopefully, someone can help me. I have posted a mp3 file on my blog. It plays fine on iweb, but once published, does not play if viewed from the Internet. Can someone help? Thanks!

    I appreciate the input, but I'm not sure it explains why that one link does not work. When I do finally publish the site (for real) on the internet, the tunes will be reduced to smaller sound clips, and not the whole song. The full-song version will be burned to disc, and handed out to industry folks at a trade show. It will take the place of a standard press kit. Right now, I'm just using this to show my clients, and get the thing working right. None of us can figure out why that one song won't play. But thanks so much for taking the time to look at it.

  • How to merge blog pages into one?

    I used iWeb and created three sites within one Domain file; each of these sites has its own blog page.
    But I haven't touched it for quite some time and would like to pick it up again. I'm at a point where I would like to simplify things: only to have one site and one blog and...
    How do I, or is there a way to, merge these blog pages into one? Consolidating these posts and comments into one single blog page?
    Your advice would be very much appreciated. (At present I'm so torn between picking up using iWeb or just start with blogger.com; the ability to preserve these messages would be key to the decision.)
    Thank you.

    You can either use <PageOverlay> to overlay the Header PDF page onto the PDF with the Body, or you could turn the Header PDF page into a <Header> DDX element. It depends on the page size of the Header PDF.
    Please be aware that if you use <Header>, the default margins for positioning the header are 1/2 inch all around. You can set this to 0 or whatever you want using the <PageMargins> element.
    An example of using PageOverlay:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <DDX xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/DDX/1.0/" >
    <PDF result="result1">
    <PDF source="PDF2"/>
    <PageOverlay>
    <PDF source="PDF1"/>
    </PageOverlay>
    </PDF>
    <PDF result="result2">
    <PDF source="PDF3"/>
    <PageOverlay>
    <PDF source="PDF1"/>
    </PageOverlay>
    </PDF>
    </DDX>

  • Can I modify the blog page in an iWeb template?

    Specifically, iWeb has it set up to have a "teaser page" for blogs, but the teasers are the entire blog entries, minus the pictures or media I put in the blog. I'd like for those teasers to be much, much shorter so that people are more likely to click on the actual blog entry.
    Any help is appreciated. Cheers - Rachel

    While on your main blog page, click on the RSS tab in Inspector. From there, choose Blog. You can then adjust the excerpt length as well as the number of excerpts to display.

  • Photos on front blog page

    Hi. I know that in my blog, I have a choice in the inspector as to how many lines show up on the main blog page -- none or all of them. But what I can't figure out is it I can also show the photo(s) in the entry(ies) without making a person click on "read more."
    If you look at sites at blogger.com, you can just see everything without ever clicking, unless of course if you want to leave a comment.
    Just wondering if this functionality is somewhere and I missed it.
    Thanks a lot.
