Making customers pay for correcting bad software?

As a current paid user of CS5, I'm outraged that Adobe is trying to make us pay for an update to correct their poorly coded software which could potentially expose my private data to a hacker. This kind of arrogance is completely unacceptable. Here is the security bulletin information: http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb12-11.html
How in God's name can Adobe justify asking customer's who have already paid for the software to pay again to correct their own error?

  • Apple is making me pay for replacment!

Yes my warranty has passed and I had my iPhone for 1 1/2 years but it is still in great condition. The problem isn't with me, its with apple. So I have a bug where internet disconnects and then says wrong password and then doesnt let me reconnect. It sometimes works when I disconnect the internet by shutting the power on and off. It can also be very slow for me at times when fast for everyone else. This happens with all wifi not just at home and I am running the same version as everyone in my family. They all have the 5S like me and don't get thesd issue. I tried restore and the dfu method and basically everything that is suggested. To make sure my backup wasn't corrupted I just restored as new iPhone and it still does it. Now this is clearly a fault with the software because it started happening when I updated to IOS 8 and the later updates never helped. I'm currently on the latest. So I made an appointment to the "genius" bar and they tried to help me out and did the DFU restore method and told me to see if it helped which it didn't. They told me if it didn't help then I need to pay $200 to replace it. They are making me pay $200 plus exchange my perfectly good condition iPhone because of the fault in their software? I mean if my screen was cracked or something that would make sense but this isn't on me. Why would I do this and possibly not even get a new phone back (because usually they replace you with a refurbished phone) when I can get a brand new one myself and then sell mine? Is apple stupid or something? Thats just like buying a candy bar that has no candy in it.
What should I do and what are your thoughts?
PS: Don't tell me that the replacements are new because half the time they are refurbished and that is someone else's phone that was either broken before or has a load of germs on it.

Replacement iPhones from Apple are not previously used devices.  No one owned that device before you.  It is a remanufactured device.  This is different from refurbished.
Refurbished is usually what your carrier gives you.  It is a previously used device, that has been physically inspected for nay signs of damage, and then simply erased and set up as new and tested.  It's really no different than what you could get from a private party.
Apple's replacements are either A) New out of the box or B) Remanufactured, which means the device begins a a collection of individual, brand new components (with only the camera or processor being possibly 'reclaimed').  Each component goes through an individual quality check, then the device is assembled.  It is tested along the way at different points of construction, and the final assembled product is then quality checked.
A 'new' iPhone pulled for the purpose of replacement goes through the same final quality check.
In either case, this is a higher level of quality check than any new iPhone you can buy from a store goes through.  In essence, a replacement iPhone from Apple has gone through a much higher level quality check than a new iPhone.  I'm currently using a replacement iPhone 4, which was replaced due to damage caused by me.  It has been working perfectly for over two years now.
You are the one that chose not to extend your coverage.  When you bought the device, you agreed to a one-year manufacturer warranty.  In other words, you agreed that you were expecting only one year of proper operation of the device.  Anything beyond that time frame would be considered a 'bonus'.  If you didn't like those terms, then you should have extended the coverage with AppleCare+.
You say you paid '$200' for the device.  Actually, you didn't.  When you bought it from the retailer (your carrier, presumably), your carrier discounted it by about $450.  But part of your monthly bill with your carrier actually goes towards repaying that subsidized price.  They don't delineate that in your agreement, but that's what happens.
And it's not the software.  If it was the software, then ALL identical devices running the same iOS would have the same problem.
iOS 8.1.3 on an iPhone 5S is the exact same lines of code as iOS 8.1.3 on another iPhone 5S.  There is absolutely no difference, period.
When it comes to figuring out the root cause of a problem with an iOS device, here are the possible culprits:
    A) Hardware (the iPhone itself)
    B) Operating System (the iOS)
    C) User Data (everything that you've loaded onto the device, such as third-party apps, photos, messages, etc.)
    D) Environmental or account-side issues.
You say you've restored the device as new.  If true, then you've removed C as a component.  Now, did you restore the iPhone via iTunes on your computer and reinstall a fresh copy of the iOS?  While it is possible for a corrupted installation of the iOS to cause problems, the odds of two consecutive corrupt installations are astronomically high.  It just doesn't happen.  If you want to be really sure, use a different computer to restore via iTunes.  The odds of two different computer/two different iOS installations having problems is virtually impossible.
So, if' you've reinstalled the iOS, then you've eliminated B.
Now, does this issue happen regardless of whether you're using cellular data or wi-fi to connect to the internet?  Does it happen regardless of where you are or what wi-fi network you are connected to?  If you have the same issue with the device properly restored as new via iTunes, even if you're using different data connections, then you've eliminated D.
This leaves A: The iPhone itself.  And therefore, there is some form of problem or defect in the hardware.  And therefore, it falls under the terms of the warranty.  And, once again... you agreed to the terms of the warranty at time of purchase.
Let me ask you this; do you own a house?  Are you paying a mortgage on that house?  If so, you agreed with the bank to pay a certain amount each month.  Now, if the bank called you and said they were changing the agreement, without your approval, and increasing your monthly payments by $500 each month, would you be okay with that?  Should they be allowed to change the terms of the agreement without your approval?
    No?
Then why do you feel you have the right to change your agreement with Apple without Apple's approval?
And finally... germs?  Really?  You're exposed to more germs on a daily basis just by walking around and being near other people than you would from a replacement iPhone.  Do you really think that Apple just takes in a device and then stuffs it in a box as a 'replacement'?  If you're that germaphobic, then wear a mask and wipe down everything with antiseptic wipes.

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion, or Mountain Lion installed. Purchase and download Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • If there ever was a NEW update for iMovie, will iMovie have the ability to burn projects onto a Blu-Ray disc so that customers don't have to pay for additional software like Final Cut Pro or Roxio Toast Titanium/Pro?

It would be helpful for those who are familier with iMovie to use Blu-Ray discs for burning and playing back their iMovie projects in HD. However, iMovie '11 doesn't have that special feature yet. I hear that 'Final Cut Pro X,' 'Roxio Toast 11 Titanium' and 'Roxio Toast 11 Pro' can copy projects like iMovie onto Blu-Ray, but it would take long periods of time to do that. Professional software, like FCP X and Toast, can be pricey.
I'm hoping that iMovie '11 will burn projects onto Blu-Ray, but will that ever come true?

Will iBlu-Ray be an upgrade? OR and update of iDVD?
If it's an upgrade, then that means you'd still pay for it from the Mac App Store. I wish it would only cost between $20-40.
If it's a free update of iDVD, but with the new name, that would be better than to go out and pay for things!!!
However, external Blu-ray recorders would still be required if you were going to burn an iMovie project onto a blu-ray disc.
Is there a way to put in a request for 'iBlu-Ray?'

  • Forcing customers to pay for a phone and/or data package they don't want or need

By their practices Verizon is forcing customers to pay for more than what the customer wants or needs, and at the same time giving the customer less of what they want or need.
I've been a Verizon Wireless customer for years. Everytime my 2 year upgrade is due I check what phones are available. It seems that as time goes by there are less and less Basic Phones with a qwerty keyboard, music player, good camera, and video. Now, there are only 3 phones to choose from that don't require a data package: none of them have a camera over 1.3 megapixels, none have video, and ALL had HORRIBLE customer reviews. Those reviews tell me I'm not the only disgruntled Verizon customer.
I've had Verizon phones that I liked in the past; right now I have a Blitz. I settled for that one because it was the best of the few bad choices available at the time. My most recent 2 year contract has been over for 5 months so now I'm on month-to-month with no contract, which is awesome. But my phone, which I like for the most part, doesn't work right. The problem is the earpiece speaker quit working as soon as my contract was up (maybe a software timebomb to force me to get a new phone?) so I took it to a repair shop to get it replaced. They replaced it but that speaker died after 2 months and since the phone has been discontinued (grr!), there is NO chance of getting a new speaker. That wouldn't be such an issue if the Bluetooth function had ever worked, which it never did. I recently broke down and decided I'd settle on something, so I tried the KinTwo (one of my 3 choices) but it sucked immensely so I sent it back.
So now I'm forced to buy a phone (with Some of the features I need, because it's obviously impossible to get ALL the features I want/need in One phone) that I don't like; AND pay for a $10 -$30 data package which I don't want or need, and can't afford; AND forced to sign up for a new 2 year contract. I'd rather go with Pay As You Go because I barely use any 'minutes' (I do more texting than talking, which is why I need a good qwerty keyboard) but I'd have to pay over $350 for a fairly decent phone.
HEY VERIZON, How about providing more than 3 choices of phones that don't require a data package? And how about making those phones GOOD QUALITY and not the garbage you're providing for sale now?
I'd like to stay with Verizon because they DO have the best service area compared to the other Big wireless phone companies . I've been with AT&T and the service area is really not as good. I even did comparison research for a college course's Final Project because I wanted to know which company had the more truthful claims about their coverage area. I live in the Sierra foothills and reception is a big issue with a lot of people here. I've talked with customers of the other companies and they all agree I should stay with Verizon. But if Verizon can't offer any good phones then I might as well switch to another carrier who may have more concern for their customer's needs. Even after giving us few choices of devices, charging high prices, and gauging us at every opportunity, they give us less incentive to stay a loyal customer. At least AT&T has roll-over minutes, Criket has 'no contract' service, and TracPhone has no contract/Pay as you go service with inexpensive phones.
So please excuse me while I go to the other carriers' websites to see what they're offering...

You are spot on. Verizon wants to squeeze every dollar it can from it's customers and customer service can take a DISTANT back seat to greed. I have a Chocolate Touch which I got a few years ago(before it REQUIRED a data package). I had activated a different phone which I ended up not liking and when I tried to re-activate my Chocolate I got slammed with the required data crappage..er package. I had to fight to get the data BLOCKED and the phone activated again.
Wifi is all over but all the phones that have Wifi that Verizon sells require data packages too. I REFUSE to give Verizon $30 minimum for data when I have no need for it. If they had ANY CLUE about customer service they would simply allow you to buy whatever phone you wanted from them(or others) and activate them with data blocks.Until they do I guess I will either be stuck with my old phones or go provider shopping. Which I am sure Budone will find great satisfaction in.
On that topic. I am amazed that Versizon sits back and lets your apathy and disrespect of ANYONE who does not kowtow to the company line as they seem to. You are a "gold user" so clarly you are  some sort of Verzion demi-god. Gotta say, there is not one word of disrespect in what I wrote. I do not puke on anyone, BUT I do present a different view than you or the OP may be willing to see with your, "Woe is me, have pity on me, and let me do what I want, if not involve the government to protect myself from myself attitude."
If you took time to look at posts of mine, I have had VZW in my crosshairs a few times, but they made it right. All in how you present yourself. Personally, I am willing to bet that corporate suck ups like you are the very reason many people finally DO make the break from Verizon. Your habit of puking all over people with legitimate complaints and the tolerance of same on this board lead ME and I am sure others to feel that your dismissive attitude is acceptable to, if not encouraged by Verizon in General. And yes, I have been edited in the past. But there was NOTHING in my prior post that has anything you state in it. You just dont like what I said. That is not towing the company line, that is knowing it costs a Ton of money to get a new deivce to market and data plans helps recoup the cost and allows upgrades and LTE to be deployed. You would be upset if you could not use your phone where there is NOT any WiFi.
    Even though I have had issues with Verizon's service and corporate paradigm(especially the companys determination to exthort every penny it can from me), almost every Service Rep I have spoken to has been considerate, friendly and helpful. There have been one or two who, when I broached the possible need for finding a new provider, seems unconcerned, but in general I have been made to feel valued by the people I have spoken with. {please keep your posts courteous}
As for the demi-god comment, maybe I can get a MOD or ADMIN to change me from Gold to that!

  • Why should we pay for software updates

i know that nokia has turned to providing software updates on the internet. But based on my experience if someone has to update their firmware and is not under warranty they hav to pay for the update !
wait a second, i payed(read : invested) in a nokia phone and it dint even work properly for one straight day & to sort this problem(which started by me doing nothign but buying a nokia phone) i have to PAY for an update!
this means i as an investor am wrong? i should not buy nokia phones?
    YES
because as a corporate business nokia doesnt have the decency to correct their own mistakes.
    This is unethical business practice.
PS: i bought N73 from dubai and am in uk as of now, so cannot use the warranty to get a free update- but cmon its not my mistake that the software has bugs, nokia should take its responsibility.
    i regret buying a nokia

Nokia do sell phones all over the world, this is correct. But one thing you miss here is that they do not sell the same phones all over the world.
Phones sold in the US are for the US market, so this could mean they are CDMA in design, use such technology as BREW etc. Phones sold in the middle east and in APAC will also cater to the needs of this area, such as chtml and imode as well as different menu structures and character sets in the phones font.
Creating a support network that can repair a damaged phone or updgrade a faulty phone anywhere in the world would be a bad thing. For one thing, the cost. If such a service existed this would be passed on to the end user, this would mean customers in the US who never leave their country would be paying for the support services (even if never used) for a customer in China who regularly travels to Austrlia and may need a firmware update or repair done anywhere in between.
The only thing Nokia really needs to address is hardware repairs. It would not be beyond the realms of reasonable to have a hardware repair service at premium for imported phones (people travelling could wait until they arrive home or mail back to their country). However the update system that Nokia now has in place on the Internet and OTA simply means you do not need to go into a shop to update your phone. You either connect to your pc or just start the update from the phone itself.
One final note, no one pays for the update, you only pay for the service. This is why OTA updates are free (apart from the data charges) and so are Internet updates (apart for the monthly charge etc) Message Edited by karym6 on 15-Dec-2006

Can anyone help me with this? I feel like Adobe has totally abandoned its old paying customers. Afterall, this is the ONLY WAY I can get info on the product. They've stopped even supporting direct customer service, leaving it up to "volunteer" customers to do it.
Are there any apps that will give me the same capabilities I've already paid for without paying for them yet again? !

  • Deleted my messages during iOS update - how can I recover them without paying for apps/ software (already sync'd after losing them though)?

I updated my iOS, and when I was typing out a message to someone via imessage (as it forced it on) and I deleted the last one I sent (definitely not delete all, I didn't 'fat finger' it either) but for some reason it deleted the whole entire message trail, which had a couple of years of messages in it, some of which I wanted to keep - annoyed feeling commenced!!
I've since figured out how to totally turn off imessage as I hate how it looks/ feels, and have reverted to SMS messages, but have lost all of my old messages to that one person.
I've used a 3rd party bit of software and it found all the messages for me, but I have to pay for them to restore them and I'm not paying what they're trying to charge.
Given that iTunes has already sync'd since this nightmare, is there another free way to recover them and get them back on my phone though?
Thanks in advance for any help!!

I know of no way to remove encryption on iTunes backups if you've forgotton the password.  If you've used the 4 digit PIN code to lock your iPhone in the past that can sometimes default as your "password" for this encryption in iTunes.  Try that PIN or any PIN you've used in the past.  If you don't use a lock maybe you played around with that feature once when you first got your phone....try "1,2,3,4" or anything you could have possibly tried.
As far as accessing older unencrypted backups you can try this software.  I do not have any experience using it but it seems like it's what you need and is probably the easiest route for both voicemail and texts:
    http://deciphertools.com/products.html
If you want to try to find voicemails using Terminal, I found this link as well:
    http://mikereys.wordpress.com/2011/10/18/iphone-backup-restoring-visual-voice-ma il/
I know with AT&T, voicemails are only stored on their servers for 30 days so any voicemail older than that you would not have been able to access again.
    Best of luck.

This could well be the notorious Mac Defender - which is an annoying program that tricks you into thinking that your Mac is infected with a virus, when the only infection is Mac Defender itself.
When surfing the web never EVER click on a link that says "Free anti-virus scan" or "Scan now" - they are nearly always scams which will end up infecting your computer.  Although Macs are resistant to viruses, they're not resistant to user stupidity.
If you Google "Mac defender" then you'll find plenty of sites with instructions on how to remove this minor nuisance.  Take this as a warning that you need to be more careful in your surfing habits.

  • How to re-download PS Elements (on replacement hard drive) without paying for software a 2nd time?

My hard drive completely died and I lost all my files and programs.  (I usually have everything backed up but unfortunately my back up drive had had issues about a month before and I hadn't got around to getting it fixed - lesson learnt the hard way!)
I now have a brand new hard drive in my laptop and need to re-download and install PS Elements but I don't want to have to pay for it a second time.
    How do I do this?

Have you bought the PS elements or you were using it as the trial?
If you have bought the software then you ca download and install the software as you did earlirer.
and also please tell us your OS and verison of PS elements.

My old Photoshop CS5 works fine, but as I'm paying for CC2014 I would like to use it. I have tried renaming the 'sniffer' file to 'snifferold' as bobmiller4002 suggested but the problem is not resolved. Lightroom works fine.

    Hi Nancy,
I'm not sure I have the answers to all your questions. Although I use Photoshop and Lightroom extensively, I'm not a 'techy'.
    My system;
    Packard bell imedia S2885
    1TB hard drive
    500G RAM
    Windows 8.1   64- bit
    Intel core i5 4440
If I open Photoshop cc14 without opening any image, I still get an error message that reads: 'Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver, and has temporarily disabled enhancements which use the graphics hardware'.
There is also a link to the Adobe help site, but I'm not sure exactly what I should be downloading from there.
             Thanks,

  • Average Days to Pay for Customers

In 2007A I thought there was a place where you can get the average days a customer pays. Whether it was on the Dunning reports or the aging but I thought it was there....I cannot seem to find this, was it removed from 2005A?
Anyways, I am  looking for a report that will show the average days a customer pays...if it is not on 2007A can someone help me with a simple query to create a report?
    Thanks a million!!

Here you go Grace - this shows the number for ALL invoices...we created a Formatted Search (FMS) that resides on the Business Partner Master Data window
And now on to the detail for each individual invoice!   Let me know if you need that also
    Hope this helps...
