Making layers centered - "ALWAYS"

here's my site

it's centered enough on a PC in firefox and IE, I have the
bars in a layer, and text in other layers...
Someone told me it's not anywhere near centered on a MAC -
how am I supposed to tell?
What code or what can I do differently to make sure it is
centered?
Will trying to make it "nested" help?
I just want my site to look the same on all computers! Why is
it so hard!

Layers are always open

hello,
I did a search on this forum without success
I'm in illustrator CS2 Vista
why when opening illustrator some layers are always open and not others?
what to do to remain closed?

Maybe for some it's not a problem really? It's not something that I've found annoying.
I think (although I'm not sure) that layers that contain sub-layers open in order that the sub-layers can be seen. Layers that do not contain sub-layers remain closed. Therefore the only way to keep the layers closed when opening a file is....you've guessed it....don't make sub-layers.

Making layers self centering

I have a site that is done with layers. This is a long shot but does anyone know how to make them self centering? I am trying to avoid creating the site all over again.

Open multi-layered PSD & always work on original?

Hey guys,
I have two problems with new Aperture.
1) In Lightroom I was used to drag a PSD-File on the Photoshop icon and Photoshop openeded my PSD like I saved it with all my layers and preferences. If I do that in Aperture I just get a small and one-layered version of it. So I always have to click on "show in finder" and then I can open my PSD file from there. Can I change that somehow? I just want to open my original, mulit-layered PSD-file in Photoshop out of Aperture without anychanges or copies.
2) Can I turn these "working copies" ("Arbeitskopien" in german) off somehow? I always want to work on my original photographs and PSD-files without an extra copy of the file whenever I do something.

Select Photoshop as your external editor and PSD as the external editor file format under Preferences->Export. Then select the photo, right-click, edit with Photoshop. This will not create an extra copy of any PSD in the library.
Selecting an orignal RAW-photo will always create a PSD, since Photoshop is unable to read the adjustments Aperture made. This behaviour is probably different from Lightroom, because LR and PS use the same RAW-engine.

Making plug-ins always active

Every time I start Firefox, I have to manually change two of my plug-ins from "Never Activate" to "Always Activate". The two plug-is are "Shockwave Flash" and "Silverlight Plug-in". When I change the feature to "Always Activate" it does not hold. Am I missing something like a save feature etc.?

Firefox sometimes does not save updated preferences due to a problem with the prefs.js file (e.g., it is locked by another process). If you notice other settings not saving, such as your preferred home page, or Tab options, etc., that could be a factor.
Your saved settings also can be overridden by other software creating a user.js file.
For both of those issues, please see this support article: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
Some utility software, such as Advanced SystemCare, will roll back settings changes when you exit Firefox. This is meant to protect you from unwanted changes, but also blocks you from making changes. You should check whether any of your utility, security, or system cleaning software has this feature.
A final possibility is malware, but hopefully that won't be the issue here. If you want to supplement your regular security software, you can use some of the free tools listed in our support article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].

I'm creating a layered pdf from CS3 v5.0.3 and my layered PDF always has

a layer called "Guides and Grids". This is not a layer in my InDesign file and doesn't contain any information in the PDF. I've done a few tests thinking that maybe my actual guides were somehow coming over on a new layer from my master page, but this layer appears even if I don't use a master page or have guides at all. Is there a way for me to prevent this layer from showing up in my PDF? I have been using the merge layer option in Acrobat to get rid of it. It happens no matter if I make the layered PDF with any of the layer options in InDesign (visible, etc . . .). Any suggestions?

Layers will only appear in a PDF if you save with PDF with at least Acrobat 6 compatibility and turn on the Create Acrobat Layers option.
So I assume that you DO want your InDesign layers to appear in the PDF file, you just don't want the Guides and Grids layer to appear. It appears turned off so it wouldn't harm anything and wouldn't print out.
There is no way in the InDesign UI for this not to happen.
There's also no way to remove layers in Acrobat in the UI except as you're already doing it. It's possible that you could program that to happen in a more automatic way with Acrobat JavaScript.
I think you'll have to live with it.

JMenu and making the popup always visible

i need to keep the menu's popup visible always and eventually the selection of an item even when the focus moves to another component-a text field nearby for example.can this (and how if it is) be achieved or it is totally up to the look and feel and i can't do much about it?

just for the record,it seems it actually is doable.at least i have a prototype working.it involves removing default mouse listeners from jmenu i jmenuitem and installing "custom" ones that manage the transition of the menu from one state to another.

Making a cursor always visible on a x y graph

Hello,
I have what I'm sure is a very simple to fix problem, but I'm afraid I'm too simple my self to find the answer. I have a VI that makes an iterative calculation and then displays it on a graph. The user then uses a cursor to select an area of the graph to pick a value for further calculations.
This works fine but the cursor is not always visible to use for selection as it does not seem to move with the auto scaling. So if the calculation produces values that are significantly different to the previous time the cursor is lost.
Does anyone know how to get the cursor to change postion with the auto scale and ideally always appear in the middle of the graph?

You use two properties:
First, the graph's Active Cursor property selects the property you want to operate on. The cursors count from the top to bottom, starting with zero.
Second, the Cursor/Cursor Position/All Elements property lets you set the cursor's position.

Layers panel always closed on startup

Good afternoon
I noticed my layers panel became closed everytime I start photoshop cs6. I tried to create new workspace with open panel but that's had no effect, panel is closed after the restart of Photoshop. Any help?

Just a small update. Workspace reset not solved the problem completely, everytime I open photoshop the layer panel shows wrong and that was very annoying. I noticed some problems with another software as well and I think the cause was the files permission issues in Windows 7. I changes the owner for Program Files folder and reset permissions for system and admin. It seems, now everything, Photoshop as well, works as it should.

PSE 11 all layers locked-always

I have PSE 11 and no matter how I save what I am working on, even as a PSD with layers, I am unable to edit the project after it is saved. This started happening all of a sudden and it is difficult to work with being unable to simply edit as needed. Any help would be appreciated!

When PSE gets weird, the first thing is to reset the prefs. Go to the editor>preferences>general and click this button, then restart the editor:

Layers are always Locked

Hello All:
I am using Photoshop CS2 and whenever I open a .jpg , .gif or use my scanner and scan something into PS the layer always starts out locked.
Is there a way to change this so it is not locked everytime?

No, there isn't.
Jpg is a flattened file format so the Background will always be locked by default. Double-click on the Layer thumbnail.
Gif is Indexed Mode and flattened as well. Change to RGB and double-click on the Layer thumbnail.

Making layers move within a template

I am creating a template which contains (from top to bottom)
an uneditable layer for the logo, an editable layer for the
content, and an uneditable layer for the footer. When I add content
to the content layer, if there is a good amount, it simply keep
going down the layer and subsequently just writing over the footer
layer. Is there anyway to get the footer layer to move dynamically
with the expanding content layer? Thanks.

You are reading stuff written by zealots instead of
pragmatists. In fact,
you *should* be using CSS for your layouts, but understanding
how to do that
isn't going to just jump into your brain. Keep using tables
until you
really understand how to replace them with CSS.

Trouble making Layers In Photoshop Elements

I am using Photo Shop Elements 10 and Light Room 4, when I open a photo in Light Room 4, and then I transfer it from Lofht Room 4 directly Elements10, Elements 10 will open the photo, BUT I Can Not make a duplic ar any other type of Layer.
Any suggestions, the transfer is 8 bit PSE format.

Even if it is 16 bits channel you can change it to 8 bits channel under Image>Mode.
If the photo is already 8 bits/channel then that menu command would be grayed out.

Making layering order dynamic--possible (?)

I'm doing a project where six objects are all sitting on the canvas-I enlarge by increasing the scale of each one to cover the full screen. And that works fine with the top object(object-1) in the layer-but as I move down the layer list, object-2, when enlarged still has object-1 on top of it. I started to just manually keyframe the opacity down to zero and try to time it correctly, but by object-4, its seeming like there must be a better way.
My original hope was that I could just zoom into the canvas, so that each object would become full-screen, but I havent figured that out either.

i dont know how to delete the post--because im basically an idiot---I just put all of my folders into one main folder for the project--and am just keyframing the scale and position for that project folder, which creates the original desired effect I was going for of just zooming on the canvas--and I dont have to worry about layer order or anything.

Making new folders always open is new windows?

I have a folder of photos that I want to copy to an external drive. I open the folder on my desktop, connect an external drive, open the folder on the drive, though it now opens in the same window as the folder that I opened previously, which is quite annoying. How can I set it up so that it does not do this?
