Making missing fonts dialog copy/pastable

When I open an .ai file and am missing the fonts, the dialog that pops up showing the missing fonts doesn't allow me to copy and paste the information from that dialog. This would be incredibly useful for designers/developers in communicating to eachother the assets needed.
Thanks

    Hi....
         In Illustrator CS4 ,I tried to skip missing font dialog box(alert box) by using the following  script .But,I could not skip the dialog box
    So if you have any suggestion about this let  me know..
    tell application "Finder"
      set user interaction level to never interact
        activate
        set fileName to (path to desktop folder as string) & "fer11757_f1208.eps"
        --set user interaction level to never interact
        --    set user interaction level of script preferences to never interact
        open file fileName

        set user interaction level to never interact
        activate
    end tell
    display dialog ("completed")
    end tell
    Thanks,
    Mubeen

    Does this NOT error when run? Your target application here is 'Finder' Apple's system file browser and you are giving it Adobe illustrator commands?
    Im not 100% about the versioning with Illustrator installs I think they are all just…
    Tell application "Adobe Illustrator" -- No CS Versioning?
         -- do stuff here
    end tell
    you could check by just picking the app from this list
    choose application

  • Displaying Missing Font Dialog when exporting to PDF?

    Does anyone knows a way to display the missing font dialog again, after it has been shown when the document was opened? We need to export to PDF with font embedding/subsetting, but if a font is missing, the substituted font is embedded instead.
    InDesign warns when fonts are missing when it exports to PDF via the UI, so at first I thought I was simply suppressing the error dialog, but IPDFExportPrefs->SetPDFExErrorControl(kExportErrorControlWarnAndContinue) in combination with IUIFlagData->Set(kFullUI) doesn't help.
    I can already detect when a font is missing ( thanks to IDocumentFontUsage->GetNumMissingFonts), but I can't get the missing font dialog to display again. I tried IFontUseWarningManager->WarnUser but that doesn't work. If there is any other approach, I'd be grateful to hear it.
    I already searched the forum but ironically, I find only messages from people trying to suppress the missing font dialog...

    Check the fonts have embedding permissions.
    If that doesn't solve the issue, At least one of the 3rd-party Crystal Reports Desktop Scheduling tools listed at: http://www.kenhamady.com/bookmarks.html allows you to generate bookmarks from any pdf by embedding Crystal formulas that act as invisible tags.

  • Suppressing the Missing Fonts Dialog

    Hi
    Does anyone know how to suppress the Missing Fonts dialog?
    There was a topic about this a year ago in which a solution involving kShowMissingFontsCmdBoss was mentioned, but the example code doesn't seem to have any effect for me (in InDesign CS3).
    Thanks,
    Charles

    Thanks, but that doesn't quite work. I can either disable the whole dialog or hide the Ok and Cancel buttons. Whichever way, the dialog still appears, and now I can't dismiss it.

  • Avoid Missing Fonts Dialog on doc opening

    Hi everybody,
    I need to avoid the showing of dialog listing the missing fonts during the opening of a document.
    I would like to do the same with the missing/modified image dialog.
    Take present the document is opened by another plugin so I can't instruct InDesign to not to show such dialogs.
    What could be a way to achieve that? Any hints will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Best regards,
    Luca Severini

    Hi,<br /><br />You can try:<br /><br />InterfacePtr<ICommand> showMFCmd(CmdUtils::CreateCommand(kShowMissingFontsCmdBoss));<br /><br />InterfacePtr<IWorkspace> workspace(gSession->QueryWorkspace());<br /><br />InterfacePtr<IUIDData> uidData(showMFCmd, IID_IUIDDATA);<br />uidData->Set(workspace);<br /><br />InterfacePtr<IBoolData> boolData(showMFCmd, IID_IBOOLDATA);<br />boolData->Set(bEnable);<br /><br />CmdUtils::ProcessCommand(showMFCmd);<br /><br />This works with the font warning dialog. For the other cases i use kSuppressUI when available.

  • Change missing fonts in multiple files CS4

    I am using InDesign CS4 and I have several dozen files that are missing fonts because of going from a Mac to Windows. I have approximately 20 documents open, so there are 20 "Missing Fonts" dialog boxes open. If I want to replace the missing fonts, which are pretty much the same in every document, is there a way to replace all the missing "Arial Black"s at once instead of having to replace each font in each document one at a time?
    I hope that makes sense?
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

    No prob, Lloyd. I meant to include some Handy Illustrative Screenshots but the work I'm actually getting paid to do kept getting in the way  Glad you were able to figure it out.
    Unfortunately, this method doesn't have the "Redefine Style When Changing All" checkbox that you get when you use the Find Font dialog. I usually wind up using this techinque with files I've not styled - e.g. when a designer sends me a package from a Mac with no styles and a bunch of 0k fonts that wouldn't support my target languages even if I did have a license for the font in the first place. In those rare occasions when I have to do this to my own well-styled docs, I made a key combo control-alt-shift-R "Redefine Style" so I could step through the doc and redefine all of the styles to the new font.
    Peter & Uwe, do either of you remember when using find/change for missing fonts started working? Was it new in CS4, or am I remembering PageMaker? Quark? I can't tell. I do remember a time a decade or so ago when I was manually stepping through a massive document made of thousands of individual frames, cursing my inability to search for missing fonts.

  • Font Warning - Missing font - Arial Bold

    Hello All,
    I have searched around for this one, and not found the answer.  I have just rebuit my PC (windows XP) and
    re-installed all software.  I am now getting the missing font dialog for one of my fla files.
    I check "Edit/Font Mapping" and it says that Arial Bold is missing.  When I check the fonts in my "C:\WINDOWS\Fonts"
    directory Arial Bold is there as a true type font (ARIALBD.TTF).
    The only font that show up in my Flash (and Photoshop too) is "Arial."  Any hints on how to fix this?
    I will guess it is some sort of install error or system error?  I did not have this issue before the rebuild.
    Thanks,
    eholz1

    Try running this JSFL command: http://code.google.com/p/adobe-flash-missing-fonts/

  • Bypass "Missing Fonts"-box

    Hi all,
    Here's a weird problem - challenge might be a better word.
    I'm looking for a way to bypass the "Missing Fonts"-dialog when opening an InDesign-file and it has to be done automatically without having to click the OK-button.
    Hoping for a solution. Could be a registry-hack or similar. We're up for anything - almost.
    And yes I'm aware that it's not usually recommended and might cause problems with the font-preview.
    If you need the exact reason for this request let me know.
    It has something to due with changing the links inside the InDesign-file due to a change in our servers file-system.
    Hoping for solution.
    Kenneth

    Found a script that's semi-useable.
    However I'm looking for a script/feature/setting that sets "UserInteractionLevel" to never even when opening a file via explorer or via the open-dialog.
    Can that be done?
    //DESCRIPTION: Open Doc with No Warnings
    if (app.version == 3) {
    app.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.neverInteract;
    } else {
    app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.neverInteract;
    var myFile = File.openDialog("Choose InDesign document to open");
    var myErr = "";
    if (myFile != null) {
    try {
    app.open(myFile);
    } catch (e) {
    myErr = e;
    if (app.version == 3) {
    app.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.interactWithAll;
    } else {
    app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.interactWithAll;
    if (myErr != "") {
    alert(myErr);

  • InDesign CS6 + Yosemite + Copy/Paste = Missing font

    We use ITC Franklin Gothic throughout all of our pieces; it's installed and it's the default font setup. New and existing files have opened without issue until now. I opened an advertisement that needed to be resized, from our shared server and copied the contents. In a new document, I pasted the contents suddenly the font says it's missing. The images retained their links to the packaged folder on the server, the fonts just stopped working. I closed InDesign, then disconnected from the server in case there was some kind of conflict between the local font and the server font override from the packaged fonts folder (packaged from the local font installed, I made the source ad this same way). Loaded the new file, and got the expected missing links dialogue, but unexpectedly the fonts were still missing. I reviewed the missing fonts, and it was the entire family. I opened Suitcase, verified the fonts are active. Still no fonts in InDesign. Okay, disactivated font in Suitcase (maybe it needs an update), installed the font in Fontbook, need to get the ad done and I don't have time for this. Verified font works by opening a different file, making a new document, but as soon as I opened the ad with the missing the fonts, fonts go missing. I then changed the fonts to a different family, and tried changing them back, but the font doesn't even show in the list of fonts. I can't figure out why this particular method of copy and paste breaks the font. I've opened and created other files with this font family active, while this copy/paste file is open at the same time in another tab while it still says "no". The only work around I could use was to copy the entire packaged folder from the server to my desktop and just change the document properties to the size I need, then adjust the artwork to fit.
    I'd like to find a resolution as to why copying and pasting broke this font even though the same missing font works fine simultaneously in a different document. Any suggestions/questions/thoughts/solutions would be very welcome.
    System specs:
    27" iMac (Mid-2011) 3.1 GHz i5
    32 GB RAM
    1 GB Video
    10.10.2
    Adobe InDesign CS6 8.1
    Update: Looking through the font list, Franklin is being listed as a different font. Though the character palette, the font selected is ITC Franklin Gothic Std Book; the font listed in the Type drop-down menu is Myriad Pro, and once that was deactivated, Helvetica.

    i don't see how that could be the case because I originally installed the font, created and packaged the ad, and the font is available for typesetting in a new document while this problematic document is open without being connected to the server.
    I upgraded to creative cloud 2014 and this particular document is still a problem. This font issue is limited to this sole document. I'm guessing it has something to do with the copy and pasting. Tomorrow, I'll try replacing the font to something else and then copy/pasting it in the same way if it recreates the same problem with a different font.

  • How to supress dialog window "missing fonts"

    Hi, i place a RTF file using scripting. When the RTF uses fonts, which are not available a dialog windows appears "missing font: ... substitute fonts..." and the script stops.
    How can i supress/disable this dialog window?
    Is there are general mechanism to supress dialog windows, when scripts are running?
    Thanks!
    Gerd

    Hi Gerd,
    suppress the message with
    app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.NEVER_INTERACT;
    But dont't forget to reset the interaction level before finishing the script:
    app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.INTERACT_WITH_ALL;
    Otherwise you will miss some dialogs in future.

  • Flash CS3 - Missing Fonts Alert Dialog box not showing

    We seem to have lost the Alert dialog box when Flash CS3 Pro
    discovers there are missing fonts in a file. We still get the
    warning in the Output box but we get no Alert box to tells us
    actually which fonts we need to locate. This is happening
    regardless of file so it appears to be Flash issue and not a file
    issue.
    Anyone come across this before and anyone know how to fix?

    You need to make sure that the specific camera model is supported by the version of the ACR plug-in you have installed on your machine.
    The current version of ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) is ACR 4.5 and there is also ACR 4.6beta.
    What version are you running and what camera generated your raw files?

  • "Missing Font" Nightmare

    I haven't played with my fonts in ages. Suddenly, iWeb claims "Papyrus - Regular" is missing. It's not, in fact it is duplicated. To remove this warning, I placed it in every Font folder on my system - No Luck! I deleted all duplicates and then I moved it into each of the Font folders, one folder at a time - No Luck! I had the FontBook check out every font, and all are good. I have restarted my system several times - No Luck!
    THEN, out of total frustration, I went to my site in iWeb and restored all of the fonts back to Papyrus, and it STILL states Papyrus is missing.
    The ONLY way I can figure to eliminate this warning is to delete my entire project and start all over. It will take me DAYS to redo all of my work.
    Any ideas? I am so incredibly tired of iWeb's CONSTANTLY messing up fonts!! No other application has EVER done this in my 15 years on Macs.

    Latest Update - Summary of Actions Taken Thus Far
    • Font Book clearly shows the Papyrus font available.
    • Deleted all duplicate Papyrus font files - No Change
    • Moved Papyrus font file to each of the various font folders - No Change
    • Re-added Papyrus font files to every font folder - No Change
    • Deleted all Papyrus font files and installed Papyrus font file from James Tseng - No Change
    • Validated all fonts in Font Book - All good fonts, including Papyrus.
    • Repaired Permissions via Disk Utility - No Change
    • Reinstalled iWeb 1.1.2 - No Change
    • Deleted Papyrus font file and installed Papyrus font files from "dreamery" - No Change
    • The fonts from "dreamery" were bitmapped and PS fonts, although a good idea, I replaced them back with the original Papyrus.dfont font file. - No Change
    • Font Book still clearly shows the Papyrus font available.
    • Opened a back-up copy of the same project from June that used Papyrus but didn't show any errors at the time. - No Change, missing font error is still displayed when opened now.
    • Creating a new project that uses Papyrus font does not result in an error when opened... so far.
    I can only conclude that the update to iWeb may have caused it to not properly read Domain.site files from previous versions correctly. At the moment, I do not have any additional time to devote to deleting iWeb and reinstall the original, install the progressive updates to see where the problem lies (if this works at all), and then figure out a way to update my Domain.site file so it can be read by the current version without an error. Seems more like a project for Apple software engineers than a frustrated artist in Illinois. I do not have the time to continue this insanity. I am not an I.T. manager and do not think using iWeb should require a degree in Computer Engineering.
    I create and manage several websites using iWeb, thinking it will save me time, create better looking pages, and make them easier to update. But all of the iWeb projects have displayed this error at one time or another. The fix was to drag the font into the font folder within the user's library, but this time it didn't work.
    I can't see continuing with such an unstable application as a major design tool for the basis of my income. In addition, with the mind-boggling fact that it has no "Save As" function thus making overwriting the wrong project too easy to do, and no simple way to create progressive back-ups, it makes it a hazard to use. Making all new projects is impossible because it automatically loads the last project edited, no "Open" dialog. So, to over come it, you must create your own "blank" Domain file, then duplicate it because iWeb will overwrite it when it saves, then drag your edited domain file to the folder you want because of the missing "Save As..." function. What the heck happened to Apple's famed "ease of use"?!! Microsoft aps aren't THIS bad!
    I'd much rather find an application that takes more time to create a design, but is far more predictable in its use, functions, new & save project files and doesn't alter the results.
    It will be quite awhile before I have the time to entirely re-do an existing project, so until then, I will go back and correct all of the fonts, spacing and alignment in my iWeb project manually; and tolerate the constant error messages for now. If anyone has any other ideas to eliminate the error message and/or how fonts should be managed so iWeb doesn't constantly lose track of them, I am open to any new ideas.
    In the mean time, I will find a better program for creating websites.
    A huge thanks to everyone for their time and effort assisting me with these issues that Apple has failed or refused to address.

  • Photoshop CC: Missing Fonts on Startup, only a few fonts are displayed as replacement options

    I have a Photoshop document which uses some Fonts that I don't have on my Windows PC. When I open the document, I get a Dialog Box called "Missing Fonts", which states:
    "Some fonts used in this document are missing. You can sync matching fonts from Typekit, or replace missing fonts with a default or different font used in this document"
    This text suggests that I can only replace missing fonts with other fonts already being used in this document. However, I want to replace a missing font with a font that is not yet used in this document. Why can I only replace a missing font with another font already used in the document? For example, I want to replace "Helvetica Neue" with "Liberation Sans", however Liberation Sans is not offered in the Dropdown box, even though it is installed, as it is not yet used in the document. What is the point of only allowing to replace a missing font with a font that is already used in the document, and not with any font installed on the system??
    Thanks,
    best regards,
    Chris

    I'm a windows user so I do not know  the Adobe Photoshop environment on the Mac or the versions of Mac OS.  The only suggestion I could make would then be try using Adobe Cleaner to clean off Photoshop then  install Photoshop  Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

  • Missing Font, But Font Isn't In the Document

    Hello,
    We're all using FrameMaker 10 on Windows 7.
    My client and I are receiving the good old missing fonts error message, specifically:
    The "ITC Stone Serif Std Medium Ital Italic" Font is not available.
      It will be replaced by "Times New Roman Italic".
    The "ITC Stone Sans Std Semibold" Font is not available.
      It will be replaced by "Times New Roman".
    First, the fonts are installed.
    Second, Remember Missing Font Names is turned OFF. (Unchecked, cleared, etc.)
    Third, the fonts are NOT in the document. I have saved the document as MIF. I have searched for the font names. Nothing. When I open the MIF file in FM, I don't get an error. But I save it as a .fm file, open it, and I receive the same error messages.
    We don't use these fonts. We don't want them in our documents. I'm doing a massive clean up to get rid of old formats. About half of the files do not have any problems, but half do. I have tried everything:
    - Generating a list of fonts. If the fonts are found, then I go in and manually apply the Default Para Font. Usually, doing this removes the font from the list of fonts. However, I still get the messages.
    - Importing formats from a known good file.
    - Editing the MIF, to the point of removing the entire paragraph, character, font, and table catalogs. (I started by deleting references to ITC Stone x, then went on to the more drastic measures.)
    - Changing the default printer.
    - Copying the text and pasting it into blank files based on known good files.
    - I tried editing the maker.ini file to substitute fonts directly, but that didn't work. I may have been doing that wrong, though.
    I've got over 10 years of FM experience, and I've never encountered a font problem that editing the MIF couldn't fix.
    All of the documents came over from Frame 6. They're all in the same book.
    We need to be able to work on the book file as an entity, without having to open the files that contain errors and leave them open.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you very much!
    ~Robyn

    I found the problem, but I'm not sure why it was a font problem to begin with:
    Unresolved cross-references.
    FM couldn't open all of the files in the book. Therefore, it couldn't update cross-references. It "thought" cross-references were unresolved.
    I figured this out by deleting one page at a time from a Bad file. Then, I deleted one paragraph at a time from the Bad pages to determine that the cross-references were causing the problem.
    I was cleaning up the book - deleting paragraph, character, cross-reference, table, and conditional text formats and master and reference pages. I then imported formats from a known Good file. The more files FM could open without errors, the fewer font errors I received. After I was able to generate/update the book, the font errors were gone.
    Some of the font calls were on a reference page that was found only in select files. However, one would think that would show up in the MIF.
    My best guess is that FM couldn't update the cross-reference formats without updating the cross-references, so it "thought" the text was still in the wrong font. That begs the question: Which came first, the unresolved cross-references or the missing fonts?
    Of course, it doesn't explain why FM was complaining about a font that is installed.
    Thank you everyone who took the time to answer. I'm sure this won't be the last time I run into this problem, and now I'll have a lot more knowledge for next time.

  • List missing fonts in Illustrator

    Hi all,
    I've been working on a script to try and build a list of font's that not loaded in Illustrator. I know that Illustrator will alert missing fonts when a document is opened but this routine will be part of a larger script that will have the user dialogs turned off. My process is to build a list of fonts that are available to the the application, then build a list of fonts that are used within the active document and cross reference them to see if there are document fonts that are not in the application fonts list.
    I have used a great function that I believe was posted originally by Moluapple and with some some brilliant advice from the always helpful CarlosCanto I thought that I had found the soultion but it appears to have some limitations. If I get a list of fonts available to the application and the document that I want to cross reference them against is open, the list that's returned contains fonts that are used in the document. Then when I get a list of fonts used in the document and cross reference them they will all be in the application list regardless of whether they're loaded or not.
    The only way that I can get accurate results are if I run the script without any documents open and build a list of application fonts, then open a document and build a list of document fonts and then cross reference. This is the only way I can find out what fonts aren't loaded.
    Does anybody know of another way to build a list of missing fonts without having to close documents first? I have searched through the XMP data and this doesn't seem to give me any clues and I've tried writing the code in applescript but it appears to work in the same way. Any help or comments would be welcome.
    Here's my code:
    #target illustrator
    var doclist = app.textFonts
    var appFontList = new Array ();
    for (i=0;i< app.textFonts.length; i++){
        var fontName = app.textFonts[i].name;
        appFontList[i] = fontName;
    var myfile = File.openDialog ('Choose a file');
    app.open (myfile);
    var docFontsList = getUsedFonts(activeDocument);
    // function accredited to Moluapple
    function getUsedFonts (doc ){
         var xmlString = new XML(doc.XMPString);
         fontsInfo = xmlString.descendants("stFnt:fontName");
         var ln = fontsInfo.length(), arr = [];
         for (var i = 0; i<ln; i++){arr.push(fontsInfo[i])};
         return arr;
    var missingFontsList = checkFonts();
    alert(missingFontsList);
    function checkFonts(){
        var fontArray = new Array ();
        for (i=0; i < docFontsList.length; i++){
            var thisDocFont = docFontsList[i];
            var activeFont = false;
            for (j = 0; j < appFontList.length; j++){
                var thisAppFont = appFontList[j];
                if (thisDocFont == thisAppFont){
                    activeFont = true;
            if (activeFont == false){
                fontArray.push (thisDocFont);
        return fontArray;
    Many Thanks,
    Nik

    Mark,
    you are a legend!!!!
    with yours and Carlos' help I think I have raged against the system that is Adobe and come out victorious!!!!!!!!
    I Finally have a script that doesn't tell me lies.
    Building a list of fonts that are available from InDesign, then building a list of fonts that the active Illustrator document is using and comparing the 2 lists I've managed to locate the fonts that aren't active. I'm sure the script could have some fine tuning but hopefully it might help others who just want to know if fonts are missing before creating a PDF that contains false font information.
    Thanks again all,
