Avoid Missing Fonts Dialog on doc opening

Hi everybody,
I need to avoid the showing of dialog listing the missing fonts during the opening of a document.
I would like to do the same with the missing/modified image dialog.
Take present the document is opened by another plugin so I can't instruct InDesign to not to show such dialogs.
What could be a way to achieve that? Any hints will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Best regards,
Luca Severini

Hi,<br /><br />You can try:<br /><br />InterfacePtr<ICommand> showMFCmd(CmdUtils::CreateCommand(kShowMissingFontsCmdBoss));<br /><br />InterfacePtr<IWorkspace> workspace(gSession->QueryWorkspace());<br /><br />InterfacePtr<IUIDData> uidData(showMFCmd, IID_IUIDDATA);<br />uidData->Set(workspace);<br /><br />InterfacePtr<IBoolData> boolData(showMFCmd, IID_IBOOLDATA);<br />boolData->Set(bEnable);<br /><br />CmdUtils::ProcessCommand(showMFCmd);<br /><br />This works with the font warning dialog. For the other cases i use kSuppressUI when available.

    So if you have any suggestion about this let  me know..
    tell application "Finder"

    Does this NOT error when run? Your target application here is 'Finder' Apple's system file browser and you are giving it Adobe illustrator commands?
    Im not 100% about the versioning with Illustrator installs I think they are all just…
    Tell application "Adobe Illustrator" -- No CS Versioning?
         -- do stuff here
    end tell
    you could check by just picking the app from this list

  • Displaying Missing Font Dialog when exporting to PDF?

    Does anyone knows a way to display the missing font dialog again, after it has been shown when the document was opened? We need to export to PDF with font embedding/subsetting, but if a font is missing, the substituted font is embedded instead.
    InDesign warns when fonts are missing when it exports to PDF via the UI, so at first I thought I was simply suppressing the error dialog, but IPDFExportPrefs->SetPDFExErrorControl(kExportErrorControlWarnAndContinue) in combination with IUIFlagData->Set(kFullUI) doesn't help.
    I can already detect when a font is missing ( thanks to IDocumentFontUsage->GetNumMissingFonts), but I can't get the missing font dialog to display again. I tried IFontUseWarningManager->WarnUser but that doesn't work. If there is any other approach, I'd be grateful to hear it.
    I already searched the forum but ironically, I find only messages from people trying to suppress the missing font dialog...

    Check the fonts have embedding permissions.
    If that doesn't solve the issue, At least one of the 3rd-party Crystal Reports Desktop Scheduling tools listed at: http://www.kenhamady.com/bookmarks.html allows you to generate bookmarks from any pdf by embedding Crystal formulas that act as invisible tags.

  • Suppressing the Missing Fonts Dialog

    Hi
    Does anyone know how to suppress the Missing Fonts dialog?
    There was a topic about this a year ago in which a solution involving kShowMissingFontsCmdBoss was mentioned, but the example code doesn't seem to have any effect for me (in InDesign CS3).
    Thanks,
    Charles

    Thanks, but that doesn't quite work. I can either disable the whole dialog or hide the Ok and Cancel buttons. Whichever way, the dialog still appears, and now I can't dismiss it.

  • Batch processing in Quark 7 - how to avoid "missing font" interrruptions?

    I have a time scheduled applescript which opens a folder of quark files, does some processing using a quark extension, closes each file and moves it to a separate location.
    Problem is I get these "Filename uses fonts not installed in your system" dialog boxes with certain files which means I have to manually intervene and click the "Continue" button.
    Is there any way of specifying in Applescript - ignore the missing fonts and continue processing the files?
    Many thanks in advance!

    Managed to get the answer on the Quark Applescript forum. For anyone else who encounters the same problem the line
    use doc prefs yes remap fonts no do auto picture import no without reflow
    used with the open quark document command should get rid of dialogs like this.

  • Making missing fonts dialog copy/pastable

    When I open an .ai file and am missing the fonts, the dialog that pops up showing the missing fonts doesn't allow me to copy and paste the information from that dialog. This would be incredibly useful for designers/developers in communicating to eachother the assets needed.
    Thanks

  • Missing fonts not identified in open documents

    Adobe documentation states that when a document is opened that uses uninstalled fonts, a message will identify the missing fonts and offer to use font substitution. This is not what happens when I open such a document in Photoshop CS3. The warning message does not identify the missing fonts, nor can I click the offending text to get this information because font substitution happens automatically before the file is opened. The result is that I have no idea, in some cases, which fonts are missing. This is incredibly dumb!
    How can I get Photoshop CS3 to tell me which fonts are missing? Thanks!

    Unfortunately, Photoshop DOES substitute fonts. My files most definitely never specified Myriad Pro (which is what all the type in these documents has been converted to) or anything even remotely resembling Myriad Pro. What Photoshop does not do is provide a way to specify the font substitution settings at all.
    As for Suitcase, it has its limitations; but honestly, I am unimpressed by every one of the font management programs out there. I have not had activation problems with Suitcase Fusion in the past, but who knows? Maybe I'll have better luck if I try to open my files in Photoshop CS. Thanks for your feedback!

  • Mapping missing fonts to others on opening

    Hello!
    I was wondering if there was a way to have certain fonts be replaced when  document is open, for every document.
    For example, I have a regular font, that now is in an open type version and I want every older document that I pick up, to automatically open with the new open type font, replacing the older postscript font. There are a few fonts I would want to map.
    Is there a way to do this in InDesign, I believe i did this in quark a few years back.
    Thanks!
    babs

    Not automatically as ID comes out of the box, though you might be able to script something. I'm not entirely sure this is a great idea, by the way. OpenType versions may not use the same kerning tables as your originals, so even opeing files in the same version of ID could result in text reflow that would affect line ends and possibly throw off your pagination, so my inclination would be to leave things alone unless you know you are going to edit the file anyway.
    You could get a semi-automatic result by removing the old fonts from the system. Every file that used them would throw a missing font warning on open and allow you to go to Find Font wher you can do the substitution manually. Not a lot of help, I'm afraid.

  • Deleted a font and can't open my docs!

    Hi Everyone
    No sooner than it looks as though all is well, when...I had trouble with the "missing font' dialog box appearing and discussed it on this forum. Finally made a new template and continued my document in "XXXPart 2" - ie a new document. There had been a problem with running the MS Office test drive as it affected the fonts I was using in Pages for some reason.
    Today I found that the main offending font was languishing in the trash and I deleted it with the TrashLockedFiles app. Of course, a message had said the file was in use, but I assumed that Pages (which should have been using the original version of Arial as I had spent some time trying to set that up) would, if all else failed, substitute another font. But Pages just quits when I select 'open recent file' - and it has done it a few times now. It will open a Pages template but not one of mine (which uses Arial font.)
    What should I do now? I cannot open two files one of which will take days to re-write, while the original would take months!
    Hope you can help
    Ruth

    Just to say that after trying many different things, my file and system are operating properly again. I trashed the iWork plist file, removed and restored iWork (and the update), repaired permissions, all the while testing to see if anything had changed. Finally, I used Pacifist to extract and install the Arial font from the MS Office test run, and with FontBook, rather than Linotype FontExplorer, (because it is less complicated to use and with the Info page one can really see which fonts are being turned on and off), and after a number of restarts, everything ran as normal again.
    In the meantime, my files worked perfectly well (though Pages runs slowly) under Panther on the iBook, where the troublesome font had never been installed or removed. It is unclear to me why this should have happened. It is as though this font had taken over my system and despite being turned off and removed to the trash, continued to dominate! Perhaps I should have remembered to restart a bit earlier — but I am not at all used to quits and crashes under Panther and find this behaviour really unexpected.
    Anyway, I don't suppose I would have known how to go about restoration activities without all the previous help I have received on this Forum, so many thanks to all the unsung heroes who put so much effort into it.

  • Change missing fonts in multiple files CS4

    I am using InDesign CS4 and I have several dozen files that are missing fonts because of going from a Mac to Windows. I have approximately 20 documents open, so there are 20 "Missing Fonts" dialog boxes open. If I want to replace the missing fonts, which are pretty much the same in every document, is there a way to replace all the missing "Arial Black"s at once instead of having to replace each font in each document one at a time?
    I hope that makes sense?
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

    No prob, Lloyd. I meant to include some Handy Illustrative Screenshots but the work I'm actually getting paid to do kept getting in the way  Glad you were able to figure it out.
    Unfortunately, this method doesn't have the "Redefine Style When Changing All" checkbox that you get when you use the Find Font dialog. I usually wind up using this techinque with files I've not styled - e.g. when a designer sends me a package from a Mac with no styles and a bunch of 0k fonts that wouldn't support my target languages even if I did have a license for the font in the first place. In those rare occasions when I have to do this to my own well-styled docs, I made a key combo control-alt-shift-R "Redefine Style" so I could step through the doc and redefine all of the styles to the new font.
    Peter & Uwe, do either of you remember when using find/change for missing fonts started working? Was it new in CS4, or am I remembering PageMaker? Quark? I can't tell. I do remember a time a decade or so ago when I was manually stepping through a massive document made of thousands of individual frames, cursing my inability to search for missing fonts.

  • Bypass "Missing Fonts"-box

    Hi all,
    Here's a weird problem - challenge might be a better word.
    I'm looking for a way to bypass the "Missing Fonts"-dialog when opening an InDesign-file and it has to be done automatically without having to click the OK-button.
    Hoping for a solution. Could be a registry-hack or similar. We're up for anything - almost.
    And yes I'm aware that it's not usually recommended and might cause problems with the font-preview.
    If you need the exact reason for this request let me know.
    It has something to due with changing the links inside the InDesign-file due to a change in our servers file-system.
    Hoping for solution.

    Found a script that's semi-useable.
    However I'm looking for a script/feature/setting that sets "UserInteractionLevel" to never even when opening a file via explorer or via the open-dialog.
    Can that be done?
    //DESCRIPTION: Open Doc with No Warnings
    if (app.version == 3) {
    app.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.neverInteract;
    } else {
    app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.neverInteract;
    var myFile = File.openDialog("Choose InDesign document to open");
    var myErr = "";
    if (myFile != null) {
    try {
    app.open(myFile);
    } catch (e) {
    myErr = e;
    if (app.version == 3) {
    app.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.interactWithAll;
    } else {
    app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.interactWithAll;
    if (myErr != "") {
    alert(myErr);

  • CS4 - Missing Fonts Loader Plug-in?

    I apologize if this has already been asked, but I am having difficulty with the missing fonts loader plug-in.
    Q:  Can some please give me a detailed (step-by-step) instructions for installing this plug in for CS4?
    Q:  What is this Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package required for CS 4?
    I need some assistance, please.
    Thank you very much for any help!

    I meant to add this as well.
    Missing Fonts Loader Plug-in for Adobe InDesign CS4
    The plug-in for Adobe InDesign CS4 is available on the Proxima Software Web site. This plug-in can automatically
    activate missing fonts in Adobe InDesign documents.
    Missing Fonts Loader Plug In
    Product Adobe InDesign CS4 version 6.0
    Description Automatic Activation of Missing Fonts
    Operating System Microsoft Windows
    Requirements Your missing fonts must be located in FontExpert
    Groups (visible in the Groups view).
    FontExpert 2009 version 10.0.
    The plug-in may also work with FontExpert of earlier
    versions 9 and 8, but FontExpert 2009 version 10.0 is
    recommended.
    File Name MissingFontsLoader.pln
    How to Install the Plug-in
    NOTE
    The plug-in for InDesign CS4 requires Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package
    (available on the Proxima Software Web site, http://www.proximasoftware.com/download.htm ).
    Copy the MissingFontsLoader.pln file to the Adobe InDesign plug-ins folder:
    c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\Plug-Ins\MissingFontsLoader\MissingFontsLoader.pln
    and RESTART Adobe InDesign.
    (Where "c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\" is the folder where Adobe InDesign is installed.)
    Using the Missing Fonts Loader Plug-in
    This plug-in has an activation option: automatic (recommended) or manual.
    Automatic Activation
    The Missing Fonts Loader Plug-in loads missing fonts automatically when you open an Adobe InDesign document.
    The plug-in searches for fonts in font groups defined in FontExpert. If a missing font is not found in the FontExpert
    Groups view, it will not be activated, and the font will be marked by InDesign as a missing font (for the current
    document).
    3
    Missing Fonts Loader Plug-In for Adobe InDesign CS4
    In the picture below, the Missing Fonts Loader window shows an empty list of missing fonts for the current
    document, because all fonts were activated automatically:
    4
    Missing Fonts Loader Plug-In for Adobe InDesign CS4
    When InDesign opens the document, it may still mark fonts as missing, even though they were actually activated
    by the plug-in during the opening of the document. In this case, you may be required to reopen document to let
    InDesign know that all missing fonts are now activated.
    The font information xml file helps solve this problem. It is recommended to select the Use font information xml
    files option. Every time you save the .indd document, the Missing Fonts Loader plug-in will create a small xml file.
    This xml file will include the list of fonts used in the corresponding .indd document. When this xml file is present,
    the plugin can activate fonts just before the InDesign actually opens the document and searches it for missing
    fonts. (You will find the xml file near the Adobe InDesign .indd document on your computer.)
    Manual Activation
    When the Activate Missing Fonts Automatically checkbox is cleared, the plug-in
    does not activate missing fonts when you open the document. You can open the plug-in
    window and activate fonts manually.
    The Missing Fonts Loader window shows the list of missing fonts in current document:
    5
    Missing Fonts Loader Plug-In for Adobe InDesign CS4
    Click the Activate All button to activate missing fonts.
    Important Note
    Unfortunately, when missing fonts are activated manually, you are usually required to close the InDesign
    document and open it again to let the document "know" that new fonts became available. This is the
    disadvantage of manual activation.

  • Font Warning - Missing font - Arial Bold

    Hello All,
    I have searched around for this one, and not found the answer.  I have just rebuit my PC (windows XP) and
    re-installed all software.  I am now getting the missing font dialog for one of my fla files.
    I check "Edit/Font Mapping" and it says that Arial Bold is missing.  When I check the fonts in my "C:\WINDOWS\Fonts"
    directory Arial Bold is there as a true type font (ARIALBD.TTF).
    The only font that show up in my Flash (and Photoshop too) is "Arial."  Any hints on how to fix this?
    I will guess it is some sort of install error or system error?  I did not have this issue before the rebuild.
