Making sense of database byte code

Hello,
I am having a lot of trouble with secondary indexes. I am getting garble when trying to read the key from the secondary index, and I cannot tell if this is from when I set the key or when I read the key. So I am trying to read my database dump to see if it was input correctly.
Here is my primary database. The first row is the key.
$ cat r1.csv
1 1 1 1.3 1.2
2 2 2 0.9 0.6
3 3 3 0.2 0.7
4 4 4 0.4 2.1
5 5 5 0.1 1.3
I just want to be able to read the contents. I am using C++ and these numbers are all stored as doubles (8 bytes). I am lining them up together with a char* to set the data of each Dbt. This file is working because I get the same values back out that I put in.
Here is a dump of the file once created. (Note: The order of the rows are probably different then from the CSV).
$ db_dump r1_un.db
VERSION=3
format=bytevalue
type=btree
db_pagesize=16384
HEADER=END

My question is how do I understand this?
"000000000000f03f" should be HEX for some single digit number. But using a 64bit IEEE floating point calculator says this means: 3.0386500000000000e-319
Am I reading this incorrectly? I tried reversing the bits, subtracting values and using "db_dump -p".

Hi,
You may try using "db_dump -p -d a ..." to get a better output, that may be easier to interpret.
You may also post here some relevant snippets from your code, such as the part where you're writing data into the primary database, the part where you read the data using the secondary index, the code for the secondary key callback function, and the exact structure and size of the key/data pairs.

Andrei

  • Question about compiled byte code

    Howdy folks,
    I have a client who wants to run an application in both
    on-line and off-line modes. The user could run the application
    locally on their laptop making changes and such which would get
    stored to local database files (probably FoxPro free tables just to
    make it easier on me). Then when the user got back to their
    internet connection they could run the application and it would
    sync with the online tables (probably MySql tables at that point).
    So the question is, if I compile Cold Fusion code into Java
    byte code, will it be able to execute independantly of the Cold
    Fusion Server? I realize that I could load ColdFusion on the user's
    laptop, but I don't think I want to do that. I'm assuming that the
    answer to my question will be "No. You can't do that. Cold Fusion
    isn't meant to work like that." To which my next question would be,
    "Well, what language would be best for the type of application I
    have described above? Action Script, maybe?"
    Any thoughts are welcome, especially if you've written an
    application like the one I've described.
    Thanks very much,
    Chris

    Well, rats.
    I wrote a nice reply to your message BKBK, but lost it
    because, apparently, my session timed out.
    The basic jist, was that I've been working on AJAX, and have
    been implementing some AJAX-like techniques at some other clients
    (using hidden iframes combined with innerHTML -- I know not a
    standard, but darn handy otherwise), but I couldn't see how that
    would solve my on-line/off-line problem (unless I stuck with the
    cookies idea).
    I also did some reading on cookies last night (obviously, I
    don't use cookies very often if at all in my daily coding), and I'm
    a bit put off by the different browser limitations. I'd hate my
    client to be chugging along, entering appointments into the
    "database" (read: data being stored as cookies to be sync'd later
    when the user goes online), and then suddenly run into the cookie
    limitation. On top of that, if I'm reading right, IE (my client's
    most likely choise of browser), will not let you know that you've
    reached this limit, but will just begin dropping the older cookies
    in favor of the newer ones. If I could programmatically sense this
    limitation and then write the cookies to some file before
    continuing that'd be geat, but since JavaScript can't write files
    (that I know of) this isn't feasable. Also, if I could write a file
    like that, I wouldn't bother with the cookies.
    I think I'm going to end up writing it in FoxPro since my
    company has a bunch of copies of it (and it's licenced per
    developer and not per copy), and there are lots of folks in my
    company who can help me get up to speed. That also means that I'll
    probably need to write a web version of the code for when my
    client's client's (does that make sense? :-) ) connect to the app
    via the internet.
    Anyway, I'm really enjoying everyones comments on the
    subject. Can anybody think of a technique for a way around the
    cookie limitations? Or perhaps another language that this whole
    thing could be written in?
    I really wish that I could compile my ColdFusion code for use
    independant of the CF server. I know, that's not the way it works
    and typically not what scripting languages like this are used for.
    I suppose I could always install the developer's version of CF on
    the user's local machine, write the code in CF and then just detect
    whether or not the user is online and behave accordingly.

  • Logon failed. Detail [Database Vendor Code: 1005]

    The application make use of ODBC to connect to Oracle database
    The way the reports are produced in the current VB application is by using the following line of codes
    cryQueryReport.Connect = ObjAdoConnection.sADOconnectstr
    cryQueryReport..SQLQuery =  sSQL & sSortString
    along the way the application also passes String value to the formular fields defined in the reports by making use of the following line of code
    cryQueryReport.Formulas(iFormulanumber) = "TITLE_1 = '" & mrsReportItems("TITLE_1") & "'"
    Now the codes have been modified to the following to accommodate the upgrade
    If Report2 Then
        'open the report
          Set MyReport = CrystalReport2
      Else
          Set MyReport = CrystalReport1
      End If

        If MyReport.FormulaFields(intCounter).FormulaFieldName = "TITLE_1" Then
            MyReport.FormulaFields(intCounter).Text = mrsReportItems("TITLE_1")
        End If
    Next intCounter
    CrystalActiveXReportViewer1.ReportSource = MyReport
    CrystalActiveXReportViewer1.ViewReport
    The error message pops up that says Run-time Error '2147189176 (80047e48)'   Logon failed. Detail [Database Vendor Code: 1005]
    when Ok is clicked, another error message says Run-time Error '214191854 (800473d2)':  The remaining text does not appear to be part of the formula.
    Could anyone tell me what is wrong with the way the Logon information is coded?
    Thank you for your time

    This post is being handled through an open support incident with the Developer Support team.
    It appears to be an issue upgrading from an earlier version of Crystal Reports using the old crystl32.ocx to the RDC SDK in Visual Basic 6.0.

    Hi, Jenny,
    When you said unable to insert to database, do you mean you get all ? marks in the database or garbage characters in the database?
    ? marks mean there are some byte chop off, and garbage characters mean the bytes are ok, just encoding problem.

  • Is Java Byte Code is 100% platform independent

    Hi all
    A my room fellow is disturbing me about the platform independency of JAVA.
    Now i only wan to know that generated Byte Code will be same if it is generated on different platforms (Window,Linux,Unix etc)using their respected JVM
    Thanks in advance

    The "Platform Independency" of Java is a bit of a joke
    to me. You need a JVM that is platform dependent to
    run it. Now granted, you can write one application
    and itll run on any platform, but that's only assuming
    they have the JVM installed on them. Not to say that
    Java isn't cool and all, but the "platform
    independency" solution still has a reliance on
    something that is platform dependent... It's like
    driving an automatic and saying you can drive....Sure,
    you are making the car go, but something is doing the
    shifting for you....(C: I guess I'm just arguing for
    the sake of arguing...Well if you want to argue that point then no language is platform independant. C code for instance needs a compiler for the platform you want to compile it to run on and that compiled code won't work on any other platform. Ultimately every program has something that ties it to a particular platform, that's just the nature of things in computers.
    The idea of platform independance was the removal of the need to re-compile a program with a native compiler just to get it to run on that platform.
    Instead Sun opted to have a compact JVM to interpert the byte code and have the byte code standard across all implementations of the JVM.

  • Problem-Loading Byte code from DB

    Dear all,
    have any one tried to load the bytecode read from the database. If so, please suggest me a way to do it. Iam developing a frame-work where nothing except a servlet would reside on the disk as a file. after designing the frame work, i've encountered this problem...plz suggest me a way.

    Yes! You are correct. My Intention is Exactly the Same. If The byte code is residing in a database, with the classname as key, i would load all the class tree from the DB and execute the program....Please Help me
    Thanks

  • Float4() causes "error saving Pixel Bender Byte Code file" error when exporting for flash player

    Simple test
    <languageVersion : 1.0;>

    <   namespace : "Your Namespace";
        vendor : "Your Vendor";
        version : 1;
    >
        input image4 src;
        output pixel4 dst;
        void
        evaluatePixel()
            dst = float4(sampleNearest(src, outCoord()));
    The above code will produce a "error saving Pixel Bender Byte Code file" error when exporting for flash player in Pixel Bender Toolkit 2.5.449694.
    "dst = (sampleNearest(src, outCoord()));" works fine. And anything like "float4 a= float4(b);" will give same error.

    Thank you for the error report.  I'll put it into our bug database.  We're bottling things up for the current version.  Gven the workaround, it is unlikely we'll be addressing this bug soon.  Please accept my apologies for the annoyance this will cause.
    In your second example, float4 a = float4(b), does it return an error if b is only a float4 or regardless of what b is?  If b is a scalar float, for example, is the conversion performed correctly? If so, this could be an error that only crops up when using constructor/conversion syntax when the thing being converted is already the correct type.
    Thanks,
    Chuck.

  • Failed to open the connection - database vendor code 17

    I'm upgrading a VB.net Windows Forms application from 1.1 to 4.0.  In the reporting form, the list of reports you can choose are pulled from a folder where the .rpt files reside.  Once the user chooses a report and executes it, vb code populates the current database connection information and displays the report in the report viewer control.
    The following things are true:
    - Version 1.1 works on my systems and my customers systems
    - The code has not been changed, except that it now targets .Net 4.0 instead of 1.1
    - The exact same .rpt files are being used
    - Version 4.0 connects to the same database my customer is using, and I can run the reports just fine from here.
    - Version 4.0 is able to connect to the database just fine from my customers systems (using the same connection information provided to the report)
    - My customer installed this:  http://downloads.businessobjects.com/akdlm/cr4vs2010/CRforVS_redist_install_32bit_13_0_2.zip
    The only problem is that my customer encounters this error when trying to run any report from his systems:
    Failed to open the connection.
    Details:  Database Vendor Code: 17
    Failed to open the connection.
    Orders.BOL.TaskDetail {393C9017-0ED1-4E1E-8824-E222F4B9D14C}.rpt

    I read all of the articles I could find, and they either don't describe this exact situation, or there is insufficient information for troubleshooting this issue.  Are there steps that I've missed to make Crystal Reports for VS2010 work on my customer's systems?
    Your help is appreciated,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
    More information required -
    - Does this happen with all reports or few?
    - What is the connection type used for the report to connect to the database (OLEDB,ODBC etc)
    - Are you changing the database at runtime?
    few things you could check
    - Check if the database is accaessible from the client machine with proper permissions / rights.
    - If its an ODBC connection check if the DSN with same name is created on the client machine.
    - Check the driver / provided used by the report to connect to the DB, verify that the same is installed on the client machine. (SQL NAtive client, SQL Server etc)
    Also take a look at below articles discussing the simillar issue.

  • Failed to open the connection. Details: [Database Vendor Code: 53 ]

    I'm upgrading one of our applications from Visual Studio 2005 to 2010. In the process I'm also switching our reports to run using Stored Procedures instead of Tables/Views.  Everything runs fine on development machines after all the migration work.  On the server however, it does not work. And I am getting the error message ""
    Server is Windows 2003 Server 32 bit.  And yes, I have installed the latest runtimes version 13.0.2000.0 on the server.  There have been no other changes on the server other than to switch the target framework on the website in question from .net 2 to .net 4, and then to modify the web.config file to remove references to the older Crystal Reports and replace with references to the newer version.
    I've seen many other threads on this "failed to open the connection" errors but none of them are my problem except there is one post that remains unanswered where someone had the same Database Vendor Code 53.  I don't know what that error means, spent a considerable amount of time researching that before asking this question.
    Lastly, it appears that this error only happens when the report is pulling data from a Stored Procedure rather than Tables/Views.  If I re-copy the previous reports, they still work.
    The ODBC drivers haven't changed, nor should they. They are fully up to date on that server machine.
    I can't think of anything else that would be indicative of anything other than this is a bug.  Here is the error text as it shows up in the event log:

    Database Vendor Code 53 is an error code that the CR engine simply passes straight from the database it's self. E.g.; look at your database error code and you should be able to find a verbose description of the error.
    As a test, what happens if you add the report to your project and run it in the CR design part of the .NET IDE?
    - A quick google search of Error 53 (for MS SQL - an assumption) comes up with a number of good hits. E.g.;

  • Failed to open the connection. Details: [Database Vendor Code: 12154].

    I have installed Crystal reports server 2008 VI on a Windows 2008 64bit OS. I have added SQL server and Oracle reports through CMC. I then installed Oracle 10g client 32bit on the server and created and tested the required DSNs using ODBC 32bit. All the testings are successfull.
    Now when I try to run my Oracle report through CMC it prompts for the parameters and when I enter them and click ok, gives me the following error:
    Failed to open the connection. Details: [Database Vendor Code: 12154].
    I have the same exact setup on a different server which has a 32 bit windows 2008 server OS and could run the same reports through CMC.
    Is there away to fix this in the 64 bit OS?
    I did a yahoo search and someone had a similar problem with Crystal RAS and Oracle.
    And there is mentions that this is an issue with 32 bit ODBC drivers on 64bit wondows OS.The parentheses in the default file location, C:\Program Files (x86), causes problems with the ODBC driver and the workarouns in re-installing Crystal RAS on a different folder.
    Full description is at (http://www.tririga.info/)
    Is this the case with Crystal report server 2008 VI? I already got users using the InfoView to run SQL reports and doing this will have to put the application offline atlease for a say.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Vasana,
    Resolution: Failed to Open the Connection.
    First:
    If the Crystal Report is using 32-bit version of Microsoft ODBC then the Window 2008 server must also have 32-bit version of Microsoft ODBC. The 32- bit version of Odbcad32.exe is located in the %systemdrive%\Windows\SysWoW64 folder.
    On the Windows 2008 server, execute Odbcad32.exe by clicking start and run and entering the following: C:\Window\SysWow64\ODBC32.exe.
    Then:
    The Windows 2008 server ODBC Data Source Administrator must have the same System Data Source Server and Database Names that is used to run the Crystal Report.
    e.g. Crystal Report points to server ABC and database EFG (ABC_efg); then the ODBC connections on the Windows 2008 Server must also point to the same server ABC and database EFG (abc_efg) listed.

    resolved by me itself.
    Do the following steps:
    1. Open the report in the CR XI designer.
    2. Select Database -> Set Datasource Location.
    3. Set Datasource Location window will appear and in the replace with section connect to the database and replace these tables with the tables in the current datasource by clicking the update button.
    4. After updating close the Set Datasource Location window.
    5. Go to 'Database menu' and Click 'Verify Database' and click on u2019OKu2019.
    6. Preview the report and the save the report.

  • Database access code in objects constructor, or in data access object

    Given an object that is stored in a database, is it better to have the database access code in a constructor method, or a data access layer object? E.g. I have a Person class
    public class Person{
    int Id;
    String name;
    int age;
    }When I want to read a person's details from the database, I could use a constructor something like this:
    public Person(int id){
    Connection con = getDatabaseConnection();
    ResultSet rs = con.createStatement().executeQuery("Select name, age from person where person_id = " + id);
    rs.next();
    this.name = rs.getString(1);
    this.age=rs.getInt(2);
    }Or I could use a method in a data access object :
    public Person getPerson(int id){
    Person p = new Person();
    Connection con = getDatabaseConnection();
    ResultSet rs = con.createStatement().executeQuery("Select name, age from person where person_id = " + id);
    rs.next();
    p.setName(rs.getString(1));
    p.setAge(rs.getInt(2));
    return p;
    }It seems to me that the constructor approach has two advantages
    (1) the SQL code is kept in the relevant class (so if I want to add a field to Person, I only have to make changes to the Person class)
    (2) I don't have to have a setter method for each field
    Is one or other of these ways generally recognized as 'best practise'?

    But then, on the other hand, everytime a Person gains a new field that's two places you have to change it. if the persistence interface is written in terms of the object and uses ORM, I don't have to touch the implementation. all i have to do is update the object, the database, and the mapping - just like you and your home brew ORM.
    besides, so what? i'd fear the resource leak, bad layering, more difficult testing more.
    Actually lately I've used annotations to label setters with database field names and run a simple home brew ORM to convert rows into objects even when not using a more complex persistence manager.home brew ORM? why is that necessary when you can choose from hibernate, ibatis, jdo, jpa, etc.? that's just nuts.

  • Unable to connect: incorrect log on parameters. Database Vendor Code: 18456

    I have imported a report into Info View (that has no parameters), I am able to run the report on Demand in InfoView, and I am also able to run the report within the CMC Preview.   I have tried scheduling using the admin account in CMC, through the publishing wizard and also with a authorized users in InfoView.  But anytime I try to schedule the report I get this error.

    I have made sure that the Reportjobobject is enabled and the server for SMTP email is enabled, and I am pretty sure I have the properties set up correctly within there, we created a email account specifically for crystal.  And that email account is also set up as a user.  I don't know where else to look.
    Please help.
    Thanks

    Hi Ashley
    I would like to suggest you following things with the Report:
    1) Please log in into CMC, go to Report which you want to schedule.
    2) Click on the report and go to Process
    3) Click on the tab Database.
    4) There will be two option to make the entries for database logon required for the Report.
    Please select the appropriate option. Are you able to Preview the report?
    What is the database in use? Please also check the odbc driver settings for that database.

  • Unable to connect: incorrect log on parameters [Database Vendor Code: 1005]

    We have a report that has been in production for some time and ran successfully with no trouble.  However, it now keeps failing with this error and the log on parameters are correct.  The whole error is:
    Error in
    File / usr/local/bobje/data/procSched/mrspas051.reportjobserver/~ tmp2f0ea56e4c88a08d6.rpt: Unable to connect: incorrect log on parameters, Details: [Database Vendor Code: 1005].
    Can you tell us why a report suddenly fails with this error?  Thank you.

    We've been having the same issue with scheduled Crystal reports (in BO 3.1).  After much testing, we found that even though reports are set to use the custom database logon credentials, if the name of the original data source changes, it causes the error (Error in File ~tmp1d06ed702daa30.rpt: Unable to connect: incorrect log on parameters. Details: [Database Vendor Code: 1005 ] ).  For example, I publish a report to a production environment.  It has an original data source called "test".  I set it to use the custom database logon.  A user then creates a recurring schedule and it runs successfully.  A developer opens the report in Crystal 2008 and changes the connection to something else, for ex "dev" (in Crystal, this is on the Database menu, select "Set Datasource Location" and pick a different option under My Connections or create a new one), then saves the report to BO.  We promote the report to prod and it overwrites the existing file.  We make sure it's still set to use the custom database connection to prod but the recurring schedules that were set up when the original data source was called "test" immediately begin to fail.  I tried working with support but they didn't really help much.  They had me install the Oracle 11G client on our servers since we were connecting to our 11G repository with the 10G client but that did nothing.  They finally claimed that since our repository database was Oracle 11G R2 (not just 11G), it wasn't supported and they wouldn't go any further.  If anyone's found a solution, I would really appreciate hearing how it was fixed.
