Making tarball while preserving fileorder

Greetings
I need to make a taball of a folder, of which the files are added in the alphabetical order.
The correct order:
$ ls -1 temp/
2010-03-09 01-33-13-40.log
2010-03-09 01-35-08-42.log

Does this do the trick?

  • Open and edit animated .gif while preserving frame timing

    CS4 Premium Design Edition, Win XP
    I was disappointed with the removal of Image Ready from CS3 because although some of the functionality was placed into Photoshop 10, there was no way to open and edit an existing animated .gif while preserving the timing of each individual frame. I was told on the PS forum at the time that I really needed to use Fireworks. I resented that, because I was very happy with Image Ready and I didn't want to have to learn a new application just to gain functionality that had been included in previous versions of PS/IM.
    I've now got CS4 Premium Design Edition which of course includs Fireworks... and here's what Help has to say on the subject of imported .gifs.
    "Note: When you import an animated GIF, the state delay setting defaults to 0.07 seconds. If necessary, use the States panel to restore the original timing."
    This is no use to me. What if I don't know the individual frame timings? What if there are 200 frames with varying timings?
    Simple question: which current Adobe product is capable of importing a .gif while retaining the frame timings? If anyone knows, or if I've misunderstood the nature of the Fireworks Help quote above, I'd really appreciate some input here. Thanks :)
    Not so simple question: why was an excellent gif-editing application thrown out to have its functionality partially replaced by a bunch of scripts and half-effective workarounds cooked up by desperate users ("import a gif by using the video import and typing *.* into the filename box..")? It's a fair question I think.

    Hi Bob, that's not glib at all, it's a reasonable question.
    I uninstalled it along with everything else when I installed CS3, in the reasonable expectation that whatever replaced IR would be at least equal in functionality.
    Perhaps I should just dig out CS2 and install IM from there, but I have some serious reservations about doing so, because I don't know if/how a partial install of CS2 will impact upon my installation of CS4, and I'm not confident of getting support.
    I am also curious to know if/why Adobe actually removed basic functionality without replicating or replacing it in their other software. I really want to know: which recent, currently supported Adobe product
    should I be using in order to regain this functionality? Or do Adobe no longer produce a geniuinely comprehensive .gif-editing application?

  • How can I process a linearly converted raw file while preserving color?

    Hi,
    I want to convert my raw files in a linear format (to preserve all the dynamic range and detail and prevent unnecessary clipping). My question is "how can I modify the brightness or luminance while preserving the hue and saturation of every color?"
    As for applying the gamma curve, I guess the best and only way in Photoshop is to create a Levels adjustment and place a 2.2 in the middle (gray) input box. However, I read in http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/hybrid-conversion.shtml that a 4.75 value should be used... Why? Is the number placed there not correspond to the gamma being applied?
    Thanks in advance.
    Juan Dent
    P.S.: getting colorimetrically accurate color from the camera, through all the manipulations in Photoshop is for me crucial. Any pointers as to what to do and what to avoid?

    First of all, you should have used the Adobe DNG Converter 8.6, not an old, obsolete version.  Always use the very latest version.  8.3 was simply the first ACR version to support your camera model, that's all.
    Note that the DNG Converter works only on folders, not on individual raw files.  Put all your Sony raw files in a folder and run the Converter on that folder containing the raw files.
    I have absolutely no clue as to what on Earth you mean by : "upon reading the memory chip from Photoshop CS5".
    You also need to make sure that CS5 is fully updated.  You cannot rely on the highly and notoriously unreliable Adobe auto updater to tell whether you have the latest update installed or not.
    I still have no idea what platform you are on, Mac or Windows. Please read the following for next time:

    machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
    what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,

  • Parse and output XML document while preserving attribute order

    QUESTION: How can I take in an element with attributes from an XML and output the same element and attributes while preserving the order of those attributes?
    The following code will parse and XML document and generate (practically) unchanged output. However, all attributes are ordered a-z
    Example: The following element
    <work_item_type work_item_db_site="0000000000000000" work_item_db_id="0" work_item_type_code="3" user_tag_ident="Step" name="Work Step" gmt_last_updated="2008-12-31T18:00:00.000000000" last_upd_db_site="0000000000000000" last_upd_db_id="0" rstat_type_code="1">
    </work_item_type>is output as:
    <work_item_type gmt_last_updated="2008-12-31T18:00:00.000000000" last_upd_db_id="0" last_upd_db_site="0000000000000000" name="Work Step" rstat_type_code="1" user_tag_ident="Step" work_item_db_id="0" work_item_db_site="0000000000000000" work_item_type_code="3">
    </work_item_type>As you may notice, there is no difference in these besides order of the attributes!
    I am convened that the problem is not in the stylesheet.xslt but if you are not then it is posted bellow.
    Please, someone help me out with this! I have a feeling the solution is simple
    The following take the XML from source.xml and outputs it to DEST_filename with attributes in a-z order
    Code:
    private void OutputFile(String DEST_filename, String style_filename){
         //StreamSource stylesheet = new StreamSource(style_filename);
         try{
              File dest_file = new File(DEST_filename);
              if(!dest_file.exists())
                  dest_file.createNewFile();
              TransformerFactory tranFactory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
              Transformer aTransformer = tranFactory.newTransformer();
              aTransformer.setOutputProperty(OutputKeys.ENCODING, "UTF-8");
              Source src = new DOMSource("source.xml");
              Result dest = new StreamResult(dest_file);
              aTransformer.transform(src, dest);
              System.out.println("Finished");
         catch(Exception e){
              System.err.print(e);
              System.exit(-1);
        }

    You can't. The reason is, the XML Recommendation explicitly says the order of attributes is not significant. Therefore conforming XML serializers won't treat it as if it were significant.
    If you have an environment where you think that the order of attributes is significant, your first step should be to reconsider. Possibly it isn't really significant and you are over-reaching in some way. Or possibly someone writing requirements is ignorant of this fact and the requirement can be discarded.
    Or possibly your output is being given to somebody else who has a defective parser which expects the attributes to be in a particular order. You could quote the XML Recommendation to those people but often XML bozos are resistant to change. If you're stuck writing for that parser then you'll have to apply some non-XML processing to your output to fix it up on their behalf.

  • So far so good. But then, how do you return to the viewing mode while preserving the corrected photos. There is no way out such as a button " done " like the one present in mi iMac.

    In my ipad, looking at photos with red eyes I enter edit mode, red eye tool, correct and then what? How do I return to the viewing mode while preserving the corrected photos. There is no way out such as a button " done " like the one present in my iMac. Any solution ?

  • How can you combine 2 shapes while preserving individual colors?

    I want to be able to apply vector textures [for t-shirts for example] by knocking the texture shape out of the original shape. Now, say I have a logo with several layers, or a bunch of shapes together, and I want to apply ONE texture across the entire thing (as a knockout). What is the best way to go about this.
    And as my question asks, how can I combine two objects into one shape without making them one color? Using the pathfinder of course. Aka, while still maintaining individual colors. Thanks!

    I don't have a specific project in mind, but I can mock one up. Okay, so in this example I have a "logo" that has text (in outlines), a gradient, and another shape (it's not a stroke) behind everything. And on the side you can see my texture. Normally, using the "minus front" feature, you can knock the texture out of the shape. But that doesn't work for a complicated combination of shapes (even if it's grouped).
    Solutions for this?
    I should start a whole post about every possible way to apply textures in Illustrator. Because I know a few different ways, but they all seem to have problems....

  • Adding chapters while preserving the original file size and type.

    Gone are the days of easily adding chaps in FCP7.  FCPX is here… chapters are gone!.  Now enter Compressor 4.
    When exporting from Compressor am I ultimately going to end up with an additional file with new settings?
    I have followed the Compressor manual and understand that I can “Create a new batch from template” and am supposed to choose Create DVD.  I however just want to keep my file in its original maximum resolution while gaining the chapter marks that will be recognized in iDVD or Studio Pro.
    Can anybody offer me some advice or point me to some good resources?

    Assume you're referring to Compressor 4, although the following would pretty much also apply to earlier versions.
    Yes; you will have an additional file with chapter markers.
    Select a preset…you can start with any of them, but Pro Res 422 makes the most sense.
    If your source file (the exported Quick Time file) was PR 422, it will not change the scale and will preserve the quality of your original file (or close enough so you wouldn't be able to see the difference even with a blown up projected image). If, for some reason you a codec other than Pro Res, go to the Inspector>Encoder pane>Video Settings>Compression Settings and make your choice.
    In the Preview window, set the chapter markers, which are frame-accurate in an I Frame format like Pro Res.
    Submit and Compressor will spit out a high quality QT movie. You can then bring that movie into iDVD, which will recognize your markers.
    If you want to use DVDSP, you have two options. 1) You can let DVDSP do the encoding by importing the QT movie with chapters. 2) You can use Compressor to encode; you choose the DVD preset (Disk Burning) and it creates separate audio and video files that you then bring into DVDSP, which will "see" your markers in these files. Most DVDSP users use the second method because they have far greater control over the compression settings…but that presumes the user is relatively familiar with Compressor and Frame Controls.
    Finally, bear in mind that DVDs are standard definition, so – however you get there – the DVD will be much more compressed and much smaller resolution than any High Def format. However, the DVD end product can still look very good. Do some tests with small, but representative sections of your movie to see whether iDVD or DVDSP works best for you.
    Good luck.

  • Excel to PDF while preserving calculation/date functions

    I am developing electronic chemotherapy ordersets for my pediatirc hospital.  I am interested in converting them to PDFs that preserve the calculations and data validation functions (drop-downs).  I believe LiveCycle will allow me to to do this, but any advice that you havwe would be greatly appreciated.

    Sorry, LiveCycle doesn't have capability to preserve functions while converting ms excel file to pdf. LiveCycle yields out a pdf with the data which is there in excel at the time of conversion.
    Though, you might be aware, using livecycle you can create automated processes which will help you in fasten up your business process.

  • Generating continuous waveform while preserving properties

    Hello,
    Thanks to all the past
    posters for being so helpful.
    I was unable to answer two questions:
    The first concerns the maximum
    triggering rate in LabVIEW. My goal is to have two trigger / gate blocks set up
    working at approximately 25 Hz and 7800Hz, respectively. Is it reasonable to
    expect proper trigger/gating even at the higher rate?
    Secondly, how can the frequency
    and duty cycle of a simulated square wave be preserved for smaller samples? I'm
    trying to simulate a 25Hz square wave with 50% duty cycle at 1MHz sampling
    frequency, but in 129 – sample increments. Currently, only the first 129 samples are
    displayed, even on both “reset phase, seed and time stamps” and “use continuous
    generation” modes. In other words, my goal is to have a waveform that is
    displayed in ‘pieces’ or in ‘frames’ of the total waveform without resetting
    generation.
    Your help is always
    appreciated,
    BME_guy

    Hello,
    One way to implement this would be to simply create 1 period of your desired waveform and hold it in an array.  Then, on each iteration of your loop, you simply take out the next 129 points.  The only catch would be that you will have to account for the rollover case.  Well, I decided to just implement this for fun, so I have attached a VI which will take the next N points from a buffer, as well as an example which illustrates how to use it.  The subVI is used like a functional global - basically it has an initialization state where you need to specify the buffer (your array of data) and the start index.  Then you can call it with the Get Next N Points state and it will get the next N points from the array - accounting for the rollover when necessary.  In fact, you can specify getting a different N on different executions of the Get Next N Points state (which is why this must be wired inside the while loop of the example VI which uses the subVI).  If you're not familiar with the functional global concept, it's the idea that you can have an uninitialized shift register hold data across executions of a subVI.  Save both attached VIs to the same location on your machine, and run the example to see how it works.  You can then use my previously attached code to generate 1 period (40000 points for your case) of your square wave, and use that array instead of the example's.  Then make N=129 and you're golden.
    I hope this helps!  Admittedly the code isn't cleaned up - I literally just wrote this a few minutes ago.  But it should do the job!
    Best Regards,
    JLS
    PS - Just to be clear, the "subVI" referred to as a functional global above is named "Circular Read Buffer Functional Global.vi" and the example which shows how to use it is named "Example Using Circular Read Buffer Functional Global.vi".

  • Can I transfer albums from one Mac to another, while preserving ...

    Hi
    I have two macs with different photos on each one, although many are the same. I have made several albums in folders on one mac with keywords, titles, and now wish to bring them over to my other mac, so I don't have to repeat all that work.
    How can i do it and what happens when the same files are on both?
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can do that with the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager. Connect the two Macs so iPLM can view both libraries and you can either copy Events from Library A to LIbrary B and keep all metadata while excluding duplicates.
    Or you can use iPLM to merge Library A and Library B into a new Library C again keeping all metadata and excluding duplicates.

  • Changing the Name of an Open Directory Server while preserving users, etc.

    Hi Everyone,
    Not an emergency - but I have been wrestling with this dilemma for almost a year now.
    The good news is nothing has to be done right away. But I will ultimately need a solution.
    We have inherited a server system at a traditional elementary school from a previous IT person who was immature to say the least.
    When he set up the server system, he named the open directory server something that, while innocuous is inappropriate for a school setting.  I am sure he thought it was clever and cheeky at the time. But a few years later it is simply unprofessional. And we are being expected to ultimately be able to change it so something like "XXXdirectory.domainname.edu" The more it hangs around - the longer it looks like we did this and it makes us look unprofessional.
    So here is my dilemma.
    This is an OD Master with iCal and network homes attached to it. It also runs DNS.
    I would like to set up a new server and name it "xxxdirectory.schooldomainname.edu"
    Setting up the new server is easy and getting all the client machines to bind to it - no problem.
    The problem is how to migrate all the users to the new server.  It seems a restore wont work because if the new server is named differently, the restore will fail. I also can't do a server migration because the stupid name migrates to the new server.
    My old server is 10.5.8 Server.  The new one is 10.7.1 Server . But could be 10.6.8 Server if need be.
    The main problem is how do I get all the accounts onto a new server with a new OD master name?
    I don't mind command line stuff. So throw whatever you got at me.
    Thanks in advance for your help everyone.  Don't worry - I won't be a pain in the butt or argue.  I just need some good solid guidance, even if it is a "Not possible" answer - at least I have something to tell the administration when they want to know why we can't change the OD Master name from mcnugget.schoolname.edu.
    Please let me know if you need more details.  I am happy to provide.
    Thanks again.
    Tony

    If you don't mind resetting everybodies password then you can export the users and groups and wipe the server for a clean install or turn it into a standalone server then back into od master  then import the users and groups.

  • How do I convert thousands of TIFF files to PDF while preserving their individual filenames?

    I currently have a library of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of TIF documents.  We're going to switch document management programs so I figure this is an opportunity to cut the files over to a more user friendly format like PDF (everybody hates TIF).
    I need the filenames to remain the same since this library of files is indexed by filename.
    Is there any way to do this automatically?  Manually cutting over each file is not plausible.
    Thanks!
    Edit:  This may also be an opportunity to significantly reduce the size of my library, especially if I could make the resulting files "Reduced Size PDF's" compatible only with Adobe X and up.  If converting everything to a reduced file size is possible then that's definitely the way I'd like to go.

    If you adjust the printer properties to not open the PDF that is created after it creates it and adjust some of the properties of the Adobe PDF printer, you might be able to set up a batch file to print to the Adobe PDF printer. Been a while since I have done batch files and am not sure what would be required. You might have to define the default printer in the command line to be the Adobe PDF printer and see if that will work with the basic print. The key may be to have a delay to be sure the print process is completed before continuing.
    OK, I am just throwing out a possibility. I have no idea if it would work. However, it is a possibility if the batch process from Acrobat will not do the job.

  • Ann: LR2/TreeExporter - Export your images while preserving the folder structure

    Hi,
    I've just released a new plug-in that'll export images whilst preserving the original folder structure.
    The plug-in scans the images to be exported in order to determine the deepest folder that contains all the images, and then exports the tree from this point (although you can optionally choose to start higher up) to your destination.
    Real time examples are given so that it's very clear what's going to happen.  The UI is polished and easy to use.

    Hi,
    Unfortunately the SDK doesn't offer access to this
    information.
    I hope some day it will...
    SDK should provide methods to enumerate collections.
    Even if it did this would probably not be possible
    since a photo can belong to many collections.
    But this is not a problem - copies will be duplicated in correspondent folders.
