Making Titles Glitch?

For some reason in CS5 Premiere Pro, for me, when I make titles I can only make one at a time without problems.
What I mean by this is that when I create a title, and write in the words or whatever, it works fine.  Then when I create another one, and say new things in it, like "hello again!", it won't save the changes.  It acts as if I didn't write anything new.  It will just be a blank title frame.  I have to close Premiere and then open it again in order to make a new title and for the changes to save.  However, even that doesn't work fully since I can only edit one title and make the changes save;  if I try and edit another existing title or create a new one, the changes won't save.
It's so frustrating that I can only edit ONE TITLE every time I start it.  Restarting doesn't help btw.
I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit, and have all other Adobe CS5 apps installed.  Edting 1080p footage this time, though the problem persists even with 720p, I haven't tried it with anything else so I doubt it's the resolution.  I have an i7, 4 GB RAM DDR3, and a 1GB Nvidia CUDA card.
Does anyone else have this problem?  Thank you so much!

I agree with Craig. There has to be something in the workflow, that is getting in the way.
When a Title is created, it will be added to the Project Panel, from which any number of instances of that exact Title can be used in the Timeline. If one makes a change to that Title, it will be reflected in all instances. One would need to create a new Title, perhaps Based On Current Title, but with a new name.
The more, step-by-step details that you can provide, the better.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Making titles in 16 x 9 - proper dimensions?

Greetings... I use iMovie HD (6) and am contemplating making a project using Widescreen DV (16 x 9) mode. I am also using the GIMP to create the still titles that will form part of the feature. So my question is, for lack of better words, what should be the proper image dimensions (in pixels) for title images that will be brought into iMovie 6?
And, yes, I would appreciate having the proper dimensions for working in both NTSC and PAL, as this project could have a global reach.
    Merci...
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

If you want no black borders to the imported still images (KenBurns turned off) in 16:9 video projects, their aspect ratio must be NTSC 875x480 or PAL 1050x576 or some larger multiple of those figures.

  • Making titles appear crisp?

In CS5.5, some of my scrolling titles seem a bit soft/pixelated as they scroll.
    1. Are there any general tips or guidelines for making them appear clean and crisp?
    2. The Final Cut Studio had a program called Live Type for creating professional type on screen. Does Adobe have an equivalent? Are the type capabilities built into CS5.5 considered good enough for professional work or is there some other plugin that editors use?
    Thanks.

This ARTICLE might be useful for creating Titles.
Also, exactly how are you animating your Titles? I find that Keyframing the Fixed Effect>Motion>Position produces very good results. I am less a fan of the Roll, or Crawl Presets, but for control reasons.
Also, with any animated Title, you will want to Render them, to play them back with best quality.
    Good luck,

  • Making title shot dissolve to menu

I am following the instructions of Larry (Rescue Team) to place a title photo and a photo of the menu of my DVD into the 'Drag content here' box in iDVD map.
    His instructions were:
___ Achieving what you want is easy to do,
if I'm correct in my understanding of your wish here.
When your audience slips your DVD into its player,
you want it to spring to life and display the Title
of your marvelous movie (for whatever period you specify),
and then you want your movie's Title to dissolve into
a display of your very first Menu.
    ___ Yes?
___ iDVD only thinks you can't place a transition at the end of a movie or a slide show.
__ Step One: Create the Menu in iDVD exactly as you want it,
and then take a snapshot* of that menu. Drag it into iPhoto next to the jpeg of your Title.
___ Step Two: Instead of placing a jpeg of your Title into the Autoplay zone in your iDVD map, place an iMovie comprising just two motionless Ken Burns iPhotos of whatever duration you choose, separated by a dissolve transition:
_________ 1) your movie Title, and 2) the snapshot your Menu.
Now, when your DVD starts, it automatically displays your Title, then dissolves to an image of your Menu, and then jumps seamlessly to the real Menu, and bingo! you've gotten just what you've wanted.
____ One little thing is necessary, though. Before you drag that snapshot of your Menu into iMovie, open it in whatever graphic editor your like (I use Graphic Converter) and make sure your snapshot contains all of your menu, but nothing more, and is precisely the correct dimensions. It will be, if you had dragged that snapshot marquee over precisely the boundaries of your Menu, no more, no less. Experiment. You'll get the idea.
But, when I try this, I have a problem with the 'seamless' jumping from the screen shot to the real menu. I have captured the screen shot, put it and the title photo into iPhoto, then into the short iMovie and dropped it onto the autoplay box of iDVD. It plays ok and looks good until the real menu 'pops' into place.
It appears that the screen shot is the correct dimension size, but there is an obvious jump from it to the real menu.
What other suggestions would help this work for me?

Creating a transition at the end of a movie that seamlessly returns to the originating menu requires a few things:
    1) The originating menu must be static. The snapshot must be of a menu that never changes, otherwise a "seamless" transition is impossible.
    2) The snapshot to which your movie's end forms a transition must be a perfect reproduction of the menu to which that movie will return.
___ I'm pretty sure I can shoot the trouble you're having in your gracious attempt to follow my clumsy instructions, Beverly, if you might describe in a little detail exactly what you see instead of the hoped-for "seamless" transition about which I keep bragging so tastelessly.
Perhaps this description of what I've just done to recreate the situation myself will provide your answer:
    1) I chose the iDVD v5.0.1 theme Travel 2, and dragged Navigator's Wings into the drop zone.
    2) I placed one iMovie and one Folder (a sub-menu) on this iDVD menu, and renamed them "A Tribute to My Uncle Jay — Play the Movie" and "Supplemental Materials" and moved them to appealing places within the TV Safe Area after changing iDVD's Settings/Button from Snap to Grid to Free Position.
    3) To make sure I'm taking a snapshot of an accurate image of the menu, I press the Preview button in iDVD, and then press Menu on the Preview "remote control" to display the menu in Preview. I take a snapshot of that, making sure that I include all of it and maybe a little more for margin in editing.
    4) I open the snapshot in Graphic Converter, Window/Show Information (which displays the exact size of selection you then make for cropping).
__ I drag a rectangular selection marquee over the whole image (it's 647 x 492 pixels), and then move each of the four sides individually to the precise pixel location of the perimeter of the menu (at which point, the dimensions are now 640 x 480), and save it as a jpeg.
    5) I drag that into iPhoto (because Ken Burns still images allegedly display more clearly than simple stills dragged directly into the iMovie timeline).
    6) In iMovie, I choose that Menu Snapshot from iMovie's iPhoto pane, make it a Ken Burns at 1.0 magnification to 1.0 magnification for some arbitrary period (a frame or two or even, if you like several seconds or so), and Apply it to the end of my movie.
    7) I select the last frame of the movie and that Ken Burns still of the menu, and use an iMovie transition to link the two with a transition of choice, and I'm done.

  • When I share video to my macbook it cuts off opening titles and starts vid a few seconds in.  I have tried making titles part of timeline, not appending them, but it does the same either way.  Any advice on how to get it to include opening titles?

I'm having trouble getting FCPX to share my entire video, it cuts off the opening titles and starts a few seconds in when I share to my MacBook.  It's my first vid so I've done a few daft things like editing the audio after I put the visual together, so had to detach it and re-attach it.  Is this the possible root of my problems?

    Hi Tom
Version 10.0.5 FCPX.  Can't send screenshot at present.  However on all three versions of the video I have in Projects there is a shaded area on the left at the start.  Shaded from top to bottom over the credits and sometimes over the first two or three seconds, this extends to the left and fills the project box before the 00.00 counter and the timeline starts. This only appears when I expand the timeline so I can see the clips I've attached.  It's not visible if I just have the timeline and no clips or audio showing.   I think it corresponds to the part the export is cutting off. I'm self-taught from tutorials and handbook and it's all new to me, no editing experience prior to the last two weeks.
Couldn't upload to Youtube at all, though it did go to Facebook, but with two audio tracks playing, so export is proving a bit tricky. Also after attempting to share two different versions of the vid an icon has now appeared beside it's name in my Projects next to these two versions showing an audio sign and triangle with exclamation mark.  Another version of the vid has the same icon and freezes the computer when I try to open it and is just a black space where the timeline should be.  I can't even Move To Trash.  I think there may be an audio problem: the main timeline footage should have had audio but was silent, probably a mistake made when it was shot.  So I synched audio.  However, I think there is audio on the main footage but just unavailable to me.  Could be this is messing it up?  I'm clearly doing something wrong!  Also as mentioned, edited the audio after I'd synched it, so had to detach the synched audio and re-attach an edited version.  Could be I went wrong there.  I just highlighted, deleted and attached the new audio.
Might download an unexpanded version and see if anything's different.  Failing that may go back to scratch, synch edited audio and try again and just not put on start credits.  However, could it just be a bug in the software?  Would re-installing help?
    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks.

  • Making titles in Photoshop

    1. Is .Tiff a good format or is there a reason to export as another format?
    2. If I am working on a 720 x 480 project can I just make a canvas at this size in Photoshop and make a title in it and export the whole thing or should I crop it first before exporting from Photoshop?
    Thanks.

Question 2 first: Photoshop has preset templates for typical video pixel dimensions in the File > New... menu. Choose one that fits your FCP Sequence Settings and paste your graphics into it.
If you have a logo that needs to be discreet, choose the template with a transparent background, it will composite automatically in FCP. Save as Tiff with the Preserve Transparency option checked to on.
Tiff is excellent for stills in FCP and my personal choice every time. PNG also works well.
Your graphics must always be in RGB color space. CMYK and Grayscale will cause "Out of Memory" errors.

  • Making titles longer?

I dropped a title template on my timeline and have edited the way I want it, and have added an animation that makes the text appear from off screen. My problem is I need to make the text appear longer on the screen at the end.
If I drag the right end to make it longer, or use time stretch to expand it, it does change the overall length of the title, but it also slows the animation, delaying when the title finishes appearing.
Is it possible to change the duration of a title WITHOUT changing the speed of the text animation?
    Bruce.

Thanks Peter but I have a question about that. It would take too long to recreate the title from scratch for a second instance, so I'm trying to use copy/paste to create the second instance and then remove the text animation from the second one.
I can copy the first one to the clipboard, and then paste, but the 2 titles are now linked somehow. The second one is not an independent copy. If I remove the text animation from the second one, the first one loses its text animation too.
How can I copy a title without the copies remaining linked to the original?
    Bruce.

  • Making titles in FCP

WHat is the deal with the title tool in FCP ? Is it just me or does it always look horrible? Any suggestions?

By 1:1 I am refering to uncompressed footage. For example, the Animation codec. DV images are compressed to 1/5 of footage. When you import from AE to a DV timeline you are compressing your footage to 20% of its original data. That's why DV text looks like CR@! If you could import or create text that is uncompressed it looks great. Of course, you can't output to DV tape but for DVD, film or DV50 etc...< </div>
You either adapt and come into the fold or you expend terrible energies fighting FCP. Your choice. But you can trust us, FCP will never work like your Avid, whatever that was.
Uncompressed titles rendered in any QT codec are easily imported from any other application. They will be rendered to the format settings of your sequence timeline. Period. If you're using DV or encoding to MPEG2, your beautiful After Effects work is going to be turned to various kinds of mush. You compensate for the inevitable mush with experience and understanding of the differences between progressive and interlaced targeted outputs. Titles in FCP are just as fabulous as any other system once we learned how to use the tools.
We've been dealing with "my titles look terrible" posts like yours for several years around here. The titling tools in FCP can produce superb results and these questions always point to two answers: a) Operator error or, b) Failure to view rendered titles on an appropriate output device instead of the computer monitor.
Anyways, is there anyone who knows how to import text and CGI into FCP at 1:1? Perhaps a capture card that does it? Kona? I am new to FCP and am interested in creating a system equal to Avid Xpress Pro with Mojo. < </div>
Why would you think you can capture files at a better resolution than importing them? Is that how your Avid (whatever that is) used to work?
You can get upset about sarcasm if you want to but we're a great bunch of folks. You don't need to take anything I or anyone else says personally unless you feel compelled to do so and we can't help you with that. We've tried to answer your questions and we invite you to search the forum archives for similar threads. There are hundreds of similar threads about titles and there are hundreds more from disaffected Avid and Media 100 users who have the same troubles you are having adapting to the new platform.

  • Making Title Screens for sllide shows and videos

    I am using pse8
I create videos in Adobe Premier Elements and in Power Director.  I like to put title screens in the timeline to describe the occasion of the clip.  I would like to be able to make these screens in pse, save the file, and then import it into the video software I am using.  Is there a place in this forum, or anywhere in the Adobe websites where there is a library of backgrounds that I could download and use.  then I would add the text boxes with pse.

  • Making Title Slides??

I want to create a title slide to begin my slideshow in iPhoto. How can I place text on top of a photo or even on a blank "slide"?

    Kitty
You cannot do this in iPhoto. You need to make the slide in another app and then import it to iPhoto.
One way to do this is to create the text in, say, Pages and then go File -> Print In the Print dialogue you click on the pdf button and select 'Save Pdf to iPhoto'.

  • I'm making title cards, need suggestions re: fonts, etc.

    h'lo all,
after getting (very) frustrated with iMHD6 title durations, I realized I could make my own white-on-black title cards in PhotoShop by creating a white typ/black background jpeg, which I could drag in to iMHD6, then set whatever length I chose. It works pretty well, except that fonts that look great in PhotoShop get pretty "soft" when they come in to iMHD6. I've been trying the following:
    320 x 240, 150ppi
    Times New Roman, 10 point
    save as jpeg, max quality.
Any suggestions on changing the font, size, resolution, etc?
    many thanks

    Bill Myers wrote:

.. which is about a quarter of the res, NTSC offers.. so iM 'blows-up' your painting and esp. the serifs of your font get blurry .. addtional increased by the high contrats of plain b/w.
720x480 (dpi is of no use for video, doesn't matter 300 or 5...) as res - if your project is 'Standard' not HiDef or widescreen..
avoid, if you use serif fonts, too small font size.. 30-40 pix is perhaps a benchmark => otherwise the tiny serifs at the 'feed' of a typo gets 'sub pixel' = flimmer in video..

  • MAking Title slides for a slideshow

How do I create title slides with text to place in between elements of my slideshow? I visited several islands recently and I want a title slide on which I can type the name of the particular island. I can't find out how to do it in I photo and I can figure out how to do it in IDVD 08. What gives?

You can use a word processing document to create the slide you want and then save as a PDF to iPhoto. Applications such as Pages or Keynote (if you have them) can also be used to create slides. They also can be saved in a format which can be imported into iPhoto.

  • Making titles jump like old projector (nattress)

OK, I've bought the Nattress filters, but in trying to apply them to a text slug with the Old Projector look, (white on black) I cannot seem to get the effect to show much of anything. I suspect this is because the text is just a single frame, so nothing changes from frame to frame!
Can I somehow make a text block a series of single frames, perhaps make the text jump a bit, so I can make it look like I want? Any ideas out there?
    Thanks!!!

    hey Mike
there are some other free plugins that migh help you acheive this effect on your text slug ... check out http://proapptips.com/tips/links.php?category=Plugins
alternatively you could just export your slug as a quicktime movie (animation, millions of colours+) and then reimport it ... or at least do a test and see if that works

  • IMovie HD making title pages

    hi,
I am sorry, I can't find anything with this new forum!!!
I am trying to make some 'slides' so to speak to insert into an imovie.
It will contain text and some jpeg logos.
Can anyone tell me how to do this? thank you much!!!
    Laura

You need to make some photos with the same resolution as the movie you are creating, ie 640 x 480, 1280 x 720 or whatever. They can potentially be larger, but avoid them being smaller and definitely ensure the aspect ratio is the same.
There are lots of applications you could do this in such as photoshop or pixelmator, but if what you want is fairly simple you might try something like pages.
