Malloc:*** errors in InDesign 2

Hi,
I'm a Mac consultant troubleshooting issues with InDesign acting slowly or freezing up. Console is reporting the below errors for the time this problem was most recently experienced and I'm not finding any information on them. Can anyone help?

Also, none of the 61 lines of error messages mention anything about the system used. Should we be guessing? Okay ... is it .. an Atari ST 520?

Other Adobe products such as Adobe Dreanweaver CS5 and Adobe Flash CS5 work fine.I would greatly appreciated if you can walk me through. Thanks.

Windows error reports are too vague to help us much. Did you get an error number?
Is this happening now every time you start ID? That would likely mean the recovery data is damaged. You can find the InDesign Recovery folder in your user profile. This folder is probably hidden, so you'll need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden and system files, then look in the same directory as the location of InDesign Defaults, which you can find for your version of Windows in the information in this link: Replace Your Preferences
Once you find the InDesign Recovery folder, either rename or empty it, then ID should start normally. If you file crashes again when you try to open it from the file menu please tell us as much information as you can.

Tell your dumb friend to pay you for a new phone as he damaged it. You cannot get help here for a phone that has been taken apart, as it is not user servicible. Your dumb friend also voided your warranty and, even if the warranty were expired Apple will never touch that phone.

Check the error on the failed object. may give you an indication why other than failed to connect.

  • Content Generation Error in InDesign

"Content Generation Error" in InDesign-every time I try to preview my document I get the following message:[Error: The assets for one or more overlays could not be located. Verify the assets used are available on disk, then update the article.]. Everything was working fine perfectly just the other day when all I did was preview it in InDesign.  I can't think of anything that I could have done to ruin it.  All my links appear to be fine, and so far I've gone through and stripped most of the document to find the problem but it won't work unless I take out 99 percent of the document.  It seems to have multiple issues and appears to be an entire corrupted document rather than just a few issues with MSOs. The document consists of five pages with vertical and horizontal layouts and I have slideshows, scrollable frames, and multi-state objects but no audio.

That was the first thing I tried because obviously I wanted to find out if it was a problem with my file or a general issue with all uploads to that folio. It seems to be working ok now, although I still have no idea what the problem was and I have never seen that error message before :s
    Thanks for your response.

  • Slightly damaged airport card, unstable connection, & malloc errors? Fixes?

    Hello!
I've got a 500 mhz iMac G3, running 10.3.9 with 256 MB of ram - and may add more soon. It has an original Airport card installed, via the Airport adapter. This card has a dent in one of the sides, but seems to power on fine.
Here's the problem: if I click on the Airport symbol in the menu bar, the iMac can see our home network with the Airport card installed - so I know the card is at least working in this regard. If I select the network and enter the WEP key, it sits there for a moment before giving a "There was an error connecting to the AirPort network * SSID *." box. Clicking "Try again" hasn't helped. Interestingly, the "Console.log" log shows a list of malloc errors:
"* malloc[@@@]: error for object 0x3----0: Double free", where the dashes are various hex values, and the @@@ differs by application: Attempting to connect via Internet Connect gives a @@@ of 385, while attempting to connect via Network Setup Assistant gives a @@@ of 329, and attempting to connect via the airport menu bar icon gives a @@@ of 208. These errors seem to appear when I type the WEP key in.
To see if the airport card was broadcasting, I tried to setup a computer-to-computer network from the iMac, then connect to it from my G4 (400mhz, Tiger, 1.5 GB RAM, Original Airport card). The network initialized OK, but the G4 could not see it. Entering the SSID manually into the Internet Connect application still gave a "There was an error connecting to SSID" box. I then noticed that the iMac kept "disconnecting" and "reconnecting" to its own network every 10 seconds or so, as if the Airport card kept resetting. I also tried creating a network on the G4, then connecting to it from the iMac to see if it could join and if the malloc errors kept showing up - it coudn't join or see the network, but there were no malloc errors in the console!
This is the same problem that occurred when I put the card into another old iMac. Therefore, I believe that it's a problem with the individual card, not the system. At the same time, the fact that the memory allocation errors occur when I enter the WEP key - and not at other times - is a little odd. I've assumed that the dent in the card was the problem before, but now I'm beginning to suspect a firmware issue with the card itself.
    So, the questions:
    A. Is there a firmware update for the card?
    B. Is there anything else I can try? I will try to setup an open network to test the card then.
    C. If the damage to the card is the culprit, then the card is useless and must be replaced, correct?
    D. Is there somewhere I can find an original airport card for (well) under the $150 or so you usually find it online? I am aware that they are old and hard to find.
    Thanks a bunch,
    -Dan

See my post about using the WaveLan card out of an old graphite "flying saucer" Airport Base Station. My iMac accepted one as an Airport card. The old ABSes are cheap since they don't work with new releases of OS X any more.

  • What is "malloc error break to debug" and how do i stop it?

Sometimes when I am running an application for about ten minutes I get a message that says in the console.  "Malloc error break to de-bug" (something like that) after that I normally crash.  Does anyone know what that is and how to fix it??

  • Chromium malloc error??

I try to start chromium, it opens for 2 seconds, then crashes and in terminal there is only this error

I've started receiving the same error messages since installing Snow Leopard. It occurs 50% of the time when saving, opening, or browsing for files.
    I get this message:

  • Malloc errors

Some time after updating to 1.5.1 Aperture has developed the dreaded "slowness", showing me the occasional beach ball on my iMac 24" with 2GB RAM.
Upon viewing some photos (no apparent pattern) the following messages appear in my console log:
    Aperture(622,0xa000cfc0) malloc: * vm_allocate(size=4221227008) failed (error code=3)
    Aperture(622,0xa000cfc0) malloc: * error: can't allocate region

Has anyone else experienced this in relation with new "slowness"?
Does anyone know of anything I can do to fix it?
Would a library rebuild be of any help, do you think?
(I have 20.000+ images in my library - managed and referenced.)

    iMac 24" | 2 GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Yep, I've already reported it.
If the size given in the error message is the amount of bytes Aperture tries to allocate it's actually trying to allocate about 4 gigs of memory.
    Surely, that's a lot - even for a memory-hungry app! :-D

  • Error Installing InDesign CS3 Server on Windows Server 2008 R2 64BIT

    Hello there-
I'm trying to install InDesign CS3 Server on Windows Server 2008 R2 64BIT (x64) Edition, however, we get a failure indication on the installer. Before, we have installed it properly on Windows Server 2008 R2 32BIT (x32) but some how we cannot proceed on a x64 box.
Is there any limitation on this sense? Any documentation about it?
    Thanks and appreciate your answers.

Note: There is a File Upload limitation in IIS 7 on Windows 2008 Server, IIS will reject any file that is
larger than 30 MB. This is a default limitation of IIS. You can increase the maximum file size by
setting the parameter maxAllowedContentLength in the file ApplicationHost.config.
The following command can be used to set the parameter from the command prompt, please
change the directory to Windows\System32\inetserv and then execute the command.
    appcmd setconfig /section:requestFiltering/requestLimits.maxAllowedContentLength:150000000
The value is only an example, in this case the upload limit is set to 150MB.Server has to be restarted
    after execution of this command.
Also, are you using Maxdb to store the files or is it a "flat files" content server  ?
    HTH.
    Steve.
