Managing characters

Hi everyone,
I'm new at Story. I used Celtx and Word a lot, but I thought it would make more sens using Story since my all post-production workflow is based on Adobe software.
I went over the help menu, the forum, and I cannot find how am I supposed to manage characters in Story. And the software itself is not really intuitive about that.
I created Character bios. How do I link those bios to characters in my script ?
I created also a list of characters in the Manage Lists button...  Did not see how to link it to the script, even if I clicked "Assign"... For now none of my character is speaking, I'm working on the narrative structure before to get into the dialogues.
In the scene properties panel, I can see something called Characters, with a "Detect" button that does not detect anything for now, and I didn't understand how it is supposed to work... I'm typing in names for now, but I'm not sure that the software understands what I'm doing as usable metadatas. Well I think I'm not doing what I'm supposed to do   I saw on adobe TV that there should be color dots in the outline, telling me which character is in which scene... But even when typing name in the Properties panel, there is no color dots in the outline (which confirms that I'm not doing it properly.
Then there is also the tags panel, which has a button called character... Once again, I don't get it, it didn't let me type names in theis section, it just says that I have this number of characters in the scene...
Also: how can I upload pictures in the infos of the charcters to share with my co-writers...
Well I think the big question is: how do I manage characters in this app... I usually get Adobe software pretty quick, but I'm totaly clueless on that one... Thanks in advance for helping

Hi Rashi,
thanks for the answer. I think those improvements are heading toward the good direction.
For the character pictures:
It could be nice to be able to use pictures from our internal drives, not just url. Then Story could upload it online to share with the other co-authors and reviewers. Maybe it will be available as part of a cloud service from Adobe, I don't know. For now, I need extra steps: I need to go out of Story, use other softwares to upload images somewhere and to get there url... It breaks the flow a bit in my opinion. But as I said, I think at least it is great to be able to add pictures now. linking averything to the Bios (this is moreover the place where actually you should be able to link/upload pictures) is going to be great for managing projects.
Dots colors:
now way to manage which color for which character for now? In my current script, the Bad Guy dirty serial killer is pink, and the demoiselle in distress is blue. Not a big deal, but our brain kind of associate more easily colors to some type of characters, and in this case it is a bit confusing.
Dots colors:
so the software is detecting everything on his own. No way to tell him that he is wrong? My script says: "their is a picture of Stephen and Christina in the kitchen"... Story detects their presence in the scene, but really they are not. You don't want the actors to show up on that day. Then some actors are actually in scenes where they are not detected.
Scene properties:
there is few sub-panels here (synopsis, note, budget,...) including characters... I tried to manually write characters here, but it did not interacted with he dots colors detection... What should be the use of this panel? What is it meant to do?
Thanks for answering the questions, and for keeping developing this tool. I think it still misses major features to really turn it into THE pre-production software, but I don't think it is that far.
More than "just" a writing tool, I think story could be a whole pre-production software à la Scenechronize, where art directors, DP, producers, creatives, director assistant everyone could be able to share content, pictures, links, references, spread sheets, from casting to set location...
I'm just saying this because I can see the benefits of Stroy being able to communicate with Premiere. From writing to post-production. Great. But there is few steps in between: pre-prod and prod, and I think Story can fill the gap.
Anyway, just a bunch of thoughts... Thanks for listening.

  • Parsing and Indexing

    I am writing a PL/SQL routine to parse, identify individual words from a string (NVARCHAR2/NCLOB) and store them as individual words in an "index" table so they can be searched upon later. My lack of experience in NLS shows here. My question is...When parsing the NVARCHAR2/NCLOB strings how do I identify which characters should be part of a word and which are expendable (punctuation, etc). Do I have to store and manage characters from each locale and then identify the local prior to parsing and indexing? This seems like an incredible amount of work not to mention needing somebody that understands each locale. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,

    This seems like an incredible amount of work not to mention needing somebody that understands each localeYes it is. Thats why Oracle has a product called Oracle Text. Oracle Text uses standard SQL to index, search, and analyze text and documents stored in Oracle8i, in files and on the Web. It also indexes metadata extracted from image, audio, and video media by Oracle interMedia. It supports 39 langauges.

    Hi Marakas,
    According to your description, we need to verify if you want to update the value of LookImageURL to ‘smart-1.jpg’ with two single quotes or not. If you just want to get the smart-1.jpg without any quote, you can refer to the following T-SQL statement.
    update SuperFashionDB.Looks
    set LookImageURL='smart-1.jpg' where id ='25D25926-2B5C-40F6-8944-F0B32822E7C0'

  • Transaction to manage special charactere in BW

    Hi,
    Is anybody could send me the transaction to manage special charactere ?
    Best Regards
    Gregory

    Hi,
    you are right with: the special characters in there are allowed in BW characteristics.
    But: not all characters you enter are also allowed to enter in there. I just had the issue, that I was not able to enter the euro sign € in there.

  • Volume Activation Management Tool invalid characters bug.

    I have a Multiple Activation Key from my Technet subscription for Windows 8 Enterprise, and wanted to
    find out how many activations I am allowed, and how many I have left. I was advised by a colleague to
    download and install the Volume Activation Management Tool 2.0 from Microsoft.
    Whilst using this tool, I've found what appears to be a rather serious bug. It does not allow entry of the
    product key I wish to manage. If I copy/paste the key under Add Product Keys, it deliberately ignores
    one of the characters in the second section of the product key, specifically the letter N.
    If I attempt to enter the key manually, it says Invalid character in the product key when I come to this
    particular letter. On further investigation, VAMT 2.0 sees several other letters as invalid characters.
    It wrongly says all of the following letters are invalid characters - A - E - I - L - N - O - U - S - Z .
    This bug makes it impossible to add the product key, and almost impossible to add any other key.

    Hello,
    Which problem are you referring to?
    The first issue was with VAMT not recognizing some the characters in the newer product keys, the solution for that is to use VAMT 3.0 or preferably VAMT 3.1 now.
    the second issue is the prompt to create a database and all you need to do is enter a name on the database line and it will create one( leave the Server line alone.)
    Thanks, Darrell Gorter [MSFT] This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
    Tried that ... it doesn't work. I type my machine name into the Database line and after a few seconds I get this . . .
    Running SQL Server Express, the server name is listed as DJGMPC/SQLEXPRESS, so I put that in the Server line
    and type the machine name DJGMPC in the Database line, and VAMT finally establishes a connection with
    this SQL Server that shouldn't really be needed in the first place, when VAMT2 managed OK without it.

  • Accents and special characters - how to manage

    Hi,
    please could you explain how it is possible to handle accents and other special characters in Business Objects XI 3.1 (Universes and Reports)? Which are the parameters/settings I need to configure for
    Database (ORACLE)
    Application Server (AIX)
    Universe
    WebI
    I want to display italian accents ò à è ù ì and some special characters like '@'. Even if they are correctly stored in DB, in WebI I retrieve characters without accent and a '?' for '@'
    Any suggest?
    Then, one more thing ...I noticed that creating a new report WebI, characters with accents appear without accents, instead if I create a report with Rich Client and I publish it, then accents are correctly displayed also opening the report with Web Intelligence. I have the application server on AIX, but Rich Client runs on WIN Server ...
    Thanks a lot

    Hi,
    I had almost the same problem (only different language) and manged to solve it after "google-ing" these links:

    FYI, system is AIX 5.3 with Oracle 10g.
    I've edited .profile for boxi user and added appropriate export of NLS_LANG variable, then restarted BO and now reports are correct.
    I guess you should try adding this line to .profile of your boxi user
    export NLS_LANG=ITALIAN_ITALY.WE8MSWIN1252
    then restart and see results.
    Hope this helps,

  • ELM -  Special characters in List Management

    I have the following two questions which are very important for business, can anyone let us know the simplest way we can workaround the following issues:
    1.     Special charaters to take care using UTF-8 format csv or txt files
    2.     Everytime correction to the file is done it cannot be uploaded or corrected to the server file for existing Lists, a   new one needs to be created instead.
    Details are below:
    Point 1:
    When we try liading special characters like in the word München it is replaced with M#nchen in the application after loading.
    I think we can solve this by selecting the UTF-8 type of the csv file, has anyone done this/tried this, pls provide details.
    Point 2:
    In this case when a list is created & loaded and errors are encountered due to data we would like to correct the file and re-load without having to create a new list again.
    Is there a possibility to correct the file and re-load it or upload it once more so that the corrected data is then available for the List to be loaded.
    Please let us know the simplesrt workaround. Or let us know if we are not doing this right.
    Thanks
    Regads
    Rahul

    Hi Priyanka,
    Thanks for the answer, I will test point 1 but for point 2 I tried the steps for example I created a new List & selected
    Read data
    Map data
    The rest I left unchecked, I started th eload, it gave an error in step 2 i.e Map data.
    Now I should be able to correct the file locally & re-load it and repeat the step, but I cannot select th eupdated/corrected file again, nor can I check the flag for Map data?
    Is this standard functionality or needs to be customized.
    I would expect I should be able to select the corrected file & load it to the server to re-run th eList load, isnt this what you described in point2?
    Thanks
    Regards

  • Firefox seems to hang when gmail is open. I must use task manager to exit. Frequency of hangs is increasing. Now typed characters don't always appear first time I type them. Other programs seem unaffected. Problem is getting progressively worse. Help?

    I only noticed today that Firefox works fine until I open gmail, so I'm not 100% sure of that. I usually work with gmail open, so it's hard to separate the two. Problems started before Christmas. Firefox would hang occasionally (every few days). Keyboard worked fine. Then Firefox started to hang once a day or so. Now it hangs several times a day. Every now and then, it crashes (especially if left unattended, the brat), but apparently I never sent a crash report. ( I couldn't get it to crash today -- it would rather hang. Fatal either way.) A week ago, I completely removed Firefox to the best of my ability and reloaded, hoping that would fix any hidden out-of-date or cookie issues. No joy. Keyboard issue started yesterday, so now Firefox is useless. Please save me from having to use Explorer!
    P.S. I have Vista.
    P.S.S. Oh, google calendar wouldn't load in Firefox, just now - said it's "redirected", and then Firefox crashed. Crash id is below. I did the about:crashes thing and Firefox could not find the report! (Oh Noes!)
    This sounds like malware to me, not that I know anything at all. I have current McAffee and it did not detect anything.
    Problems started around the same time that I got a new canon pixma MG8120 printer, which loaded a plugin apparently. Might be a coincidence.
    If you tell me to remove any plugins, tell me how. I think I tried that and couldn't find a way. Or maybe that was something else...

    New information and answers to the questions:
    1) I've never used dropbox on this machine, so that isn't the case
    2) I use Firefox as my browser and don't touch Safari unless it is a site that Firefox balks at. I did all the hardware scans, software scans, resetting prefs, and PRAM as well, almost every day.
    New info: I had to do a complete system format and reinstall. It actually seems to have solved the problem and corrected a few things that the recent updates hadn't resolved (the disk sound on sleep-wake didn't work until I installed the update on a new system install). I think the issue had to do with either the recent Java or Airport updates and I haven't installed them this time due to that fear. What forced me to do a complete install was the computer wouldn't hold an internet connection *at all*, even when directly plugged into the router via ethernet. System time got messed up and keychain passwords got hosed too if they related to recent internet/network connections. I wish I had more info to share but that's it. Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to keep this open for now as I am interested in seeing if anything else could explain this issue.
    I opened a bug report at the Apple Dev. site (https://bugreport.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/RadarWeb.woa/110/wo/klAiofleLooe0 XCbERCOUM/5.79.28.0.9) as well.

  • Create a Support Message in Production system showing up in Solution Manage

    Has anyone setup the link between creating a support message (under help) in a production system (like ECC) and SAP's Solution Manager.
    I understand that it uses BADI SBCOS001 with the interface method PREPARE_FEEDBACK_BO, but when I try to run it, it tells me that Customizing for feedback functionality missing. What functionality is missing? And how to I correct this? And how do I ensure it shows in SAP Solution Manager under a solution or project?
    Thanks
    Paul

    Hi Paul
    The only way is to use the IMG. I have just completed this via the IMG info. BUT, it is not that simple.
    Make sure your RFC's are trusted and that you have SAP ALL during config.
    I hope this will help:
    Setup Service Desk
    Steps to follow while configuring support desk.
    1) Implement the note 903587 .
    2) Create all the relevant RFC objects in the satellite system and add the appropriate logical components using transaction SMSY.
    3) Check all the objects in the table BCOS_CUST using transaction SM30.
    Appl : OSS_MSG
    + :W
    DEST :BACK RFC NAME (for solution manager system keep this field as 'NONE')
    + :CUST 620
    + :1.0.
    *4) Check whether the BC sets are activated or not using the transaction SCPR20.If the BC sets are not activated then implement the note 898614.The steps to activate the BC sets are described below
    4.1) Activate SOLMAN40_SDESK_BASICFUNC_000 BC Set.
    4.2) Activate this in expert mode with option u201COverwrite everythingu201D.
    4.3) Activation of the following components has to be done by replicating the previous steps
    3.1) SOLMAN40_SDESK_TPI_ACT_AST_001
    3.2) SOLMAN40_SDESK_ACTIONLOG_001
    3.3) SOLMAN40_SDESK_ACT_ADVCLOSE_001
    3.4) SOLMAN40_SDESK_TEXTTYPES_001
    *Depends upon the number of inactive BC set objects that we have after the upgrade.
    4.4) if the actions mentioned in 4.3 are not listed while executing the transaction SCPR20, then implement the note 898614.In the source client 000 of the solution manager system create a transport request using transaction SE09, unpack the file 'PIECELIST_SERVICE_DESK_INIT.ZIP' from the attachment of the note. Copy the contents of the file 'PIECELIST_SERVICE_DESK_INITIAL.TXT' to the transport request. And activate the actions. Use transaction SCC1 to import the transport request to the solution manager client. If any short dump occurs during the activation, implement the note 939116.
    5) Check whether the number range is set correctly. If not set the number ranges of basic notification (ABA) and the support desk message (Service transaction SLFN).To be able to use the same number ranges for both message types, the internal number range for basic notification (ABA) must correspond to the external number range for the support desk message.
    Number ranges for ABA notifications
    5.1) create an internal and external number range using transaction DNO_NOTIF.
    5.2) assign number range intervals to groups internal and external.
    5.3) SLF1 is the internal number range group
    5.4) SLF2 and SLF3 is the external number range interval
    5.5) Use transaction DNO_CUST01 to assign message categories to the number range.
    5.51) Go to transaction DNO_CUST01
    5.52) From the GOTO menu select the menu item DETAILS
    5.53) Now you can assign the number range of basis notification (ABA) into the notification type.
    The number range for ABA notification is 12 characters in length and to make it compatible with the CRM service transaction insert 2 ZEROES at the beginning.
    Number ranges for Support Desk notification
    5.54) Use transaction CRMC_NR_RA_SERVICE, and define the internal and external number ranges. Intervals must correspond to the intervals of the basic notifications (ABA notification).
    5.6) Then assign both the external and internal numbering
    5.61) Go to SPRO and then to SAP Solution Manager
    5.62) Then select General Settings and then select Transaction types
    5.63) Select the transaction type SLFN and then select the menu item DETAILS from the GOTO menu.
    5.64) In the Transaction Numbering block, assign the internal and external number range. The Number Range object should be CRM_SERVIC.
    5.7) To view the priorities use transaction DNO_CUST01 and select the notification type as SLF1 and then select priorities from the left pane of the screen. The priorities of the first four cannot be deleted, but new priorities can be added.
    6) Check the Action profiles for ABA Notifications (Action profiles are used for synchronization of ABA notification with the CRM Service transaction).
    6.1) To check the action profiles use the transaction SPPFCADM and select the application type DNO_NOTIF then select u2018DEFINE ACTION PROFILE AND ACTIONSu2019.
    6.2) Select the item u2018SLFN0001_STANDARD_DNOu2019 and then from the menu GOTO, select the menu item DETAILS.
    7) The Action profile u2018SLFN0001_STANDARD_DNOu2019 has to be assigned to the message category SLF1 (ABA notifications) using the transaction DNO_CUST01.
    8) The action profile for the support desk message can be set to u2018SLFN0001_ADVANCEDu2019.
    8.1) From SPRO select SAP Solution Manager then Scenario Specific Settings.
    8.2) Select the item Service Desk and then to general settings.
    8.3) Execute the category u2018Define Transaction Typesu2019.
    8.4) Select the transaction type as SLFN
    8.5) From the GOTO menu select the menu item u2018DETAILSu2019 and assign the action profile as SLFN0001_ADVANCED .
    9) Activate the partner/ Organization
    9.1) Go to CRM->MASTER DATA->BUSINESS PARTNER->INTEGRATION BUSINESS PARTNER ORGANIZATION MANAGEMENT->SET UP INTEGRATION WITH ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT.
    9.2)Find the entries starting with HRALX
    HRALX-HRAC WITH VALUE 'X'.
    HRALX-OBPON WITH VALUE 'ON'.
    HRALX-PBPON u2018ONu2019.
    HRALX-MSGRE u2013 u20180u2019.
    9.3) If entries are not found create it.
    10) Generate Business partner screens
    10.1) Go to transaction BUSP.
    10.2) Execute the report with the following parameters
    CLIENT - Client in which business partners should be created (solution manager client)
    APPLICATION OBJECT-
    SCREEN - *
    Generate all/ selected screens - All screens.
    delete sub screen containers -
    11) implement SAP note 450640.
    11.1) Go to transaction SA38 and select the report CRM_MKTBP_ZCACL_UPDATE_30.
    11.2) Execute it with test mode box unchecked.
    If a new relationship is to be created then steps 12 and 13 has to be followed
    12) To create a relationship category
    12.1) Go to transaction BUBA
    12.2) Select the entry CRMH00: Undefined relationship
    12.3) click on copy
    12.4) Rename CRMH00 to ZCRMH00.
    12.5) CREATE A RELATIONSHIP CATEGORY.
    IN GENERAL DATA FILL LIKE ' FROM BP1 : HAS THE ACTIVITY GROUP '.
    ' FROM BP2 : IS A PART OF ATTUNE
    13) Add the relationship category to the support team partner function
    13.1)Use SPRO
    IMG GUIDE->SAP SOLUTION MANAGER->SCENARIO SPECIFIC SETTINGS->
    -> SERVICE DESK->PARTNER DETERMINATION PROCEDURE->DEFINE PARTNER FUNCTION.
    13.2) FIND THE PARTNER FUNCTION SLFN0003 (SUPPORT TEAM).
    13.3) In the field relation ship category, Select the newly created relationship category and save.
    14) Steps 12 and 13 should be repeated for various business partner types like sold-to-party, message processors if new relationship is to be created for the respective business partner types.
    15) Create a new access sequence for the support team determination
    15.1) Go to the following IMG Path: SAP Solution Manager Implementation Guide ->
    SAP Solution Manager -> Configuration ->
    -> Scenario Specific Settings ->Service Desk -> Partner Determination Procedure ->
    ->Define Access Sequence
    15.2) Click on New Entries
    15.3) Define a new access sequence with sequence name as u2018Z001u2019 and description u2018NEW BP RELATIONSHIP ACTIVITY GROUPu2019
    15.4) Create an new Individual Access with the following value:
    u2022 Batch Seq: 10
    u2022 Dialog Seq : 10
    u2022 Source : Business Partner Relationship.
    u2022 Detail on the source:

  • Ipod 5th Generation 80 GB / Device Manager / Driver not Installed / Code 28

    Well, where do I begin! Got my 1st Ipod 2 days ago & still unable to use it! I have installed & uninstalled the itunes 7 software numerous times. On phone w/ Apple for 1 hour...followed by online chat help w/ Dell.
    I've tryed 4 different USB ports on my computer. The device Manager shows the Ipod w/ a ? and a ! in yellow. The add new hardware tells me, "Drivers for this device are not installed. Code 28." My computer reconizes that the ipod is plugged in, but will not do anything. There is no communication between the 2. Keeps telling me to insert cd for software for ipod.
    Help! Does seem that other people are having similar issues. I think a software cd should of been provided w/ the ipod....not sure if that would of corrected my problem.

    Hi,
    Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run. the Run dialog appears,
    Type %temp%, then click OK.
    locate and enter into the HP Installation temporary folder, start with the 7Z characters.
    If you can see several folders starting with 7Z, locate the latest one.
    Click the Address bar area, then the full address path will appear,
    Copy the full path location by clicking CTRL + P while the path is selected.
    Enter the Device Manager.
    Right click the printer name with the error mark, then click Update Driver.
    Select the second option to manually locate the driver.
    Paste the temporary folder path and click Next (Keep Include Sub Fulders marked), the driver should be updated.
    Please let me know of any change,
    Shlomi

  • Special characters into datagrid through the use of buttons

    Hi!
    I have a datagrid for word input, I'm trying to create a "special characters" panel, kind of like google's new "virtual keyboard" thing on google.com, so that the user can enter data into the datagrid cells using characters that aren't on their keyboards.
    I manage to do this just fine, using the solution below. I know this is probably not the best/most effective way to do this, so any suggestions for making the code better will be appreciated. I only started using Flex a month ago.
    grid.addEventListener(DataGridEvent.ITEM_EDIT_BEGIN, selectColumn)
    function selectColumn(event:DataGridEvent):void
    var selectedColumn:DataGridColumn = grid.columns[event.columnIndex];
    selCol = selectedColumn.dataField;
    //The function for adding a special character to the selected datagrid column by clicking a button:
    //(inputWordArray is the dataprovider for the grid called "grid" )
    protected function clickSomeButton(event:MouseEvent):void
    var colIndex:int = new int;
    if (selCol == "from"){
    inputWordArray[grid.selectedIndex].from = inputWordArray[grid.selectedIndex].from + "æ";
    colIndex = 0;
    else if (selCol == "to"){
    colIndex = 1;
    inputWordArray[grid.selectedIndex].to = inputWordArray[grid.selectedIndex].to + "æ";
    inputWordArray.refresh();
    grid.dispatchEvent(new DataGridEvent(DataGridEvent.ITEM_EDIT_BEGINNING, false, false, colIndex, null, grid.selectedIndex));
    The problem is that this only adds a letter at the end of the selected item's value, not at a specific position within the word specified by the position of the cursor. This is what I need to achieve. I have no idea even what to search for, if anyone could please give me a hint that'd be great.

    You will probably need to capture the editor's selectionBeginIndex and
    selectionEndIndex
